The official English X (formerly Twitter) account for the Attack on Titan franchise recently announced that the film's screening period in the U.S. and Canada has been extended in response to "overwhelming demand." Originally, The Last Attack was slated for an exclusive series of one-day-screenings, giving fans a very narrow window of opportunity to see the movie in theaters. While not as iconic a decade as the 1990s, the 2000s were nonetheless a great era for anime. Attack on Titan stars have discussed their characters' fates in the series' last compilation film. Attack on Titan: The Last Attack's ensemble, including Yuki Kaji (Eren Yeager), Marina Inoue (Armin Arlert), Hiroshi Shimono (Connie Springer), Yu Shimamura (Annie Leonhart) and Romi Park (Hange Zoe) were at a recent Toho Cinema screening event in Tokyo for the movie.
Per Oricon, the cast discussed their love for the series, with Shimono sharing his joy at Attack on Titan's popularity, wishing the show would go on "forever." Shimamura revealed she did not expect her character Annie to wake up from her crystallized state, but was happy her personality became fully fleshed out and that her story ended on a good note. Many characters have tragic endings in Attack on Titan, but perhaps none more so than Park's Hange. "Thanks to everyone, I was able to pass away splendidly," she said.

The sheer length of some of the most famous anime series can be something of a turnoff for newcomers, leading some fans to wonder what the best short anime are. Friends may enthusiastically recommend Naruto, One Piece, or The Legend of Galactic Heroes, but those shows, classics that they are, have hundreds of episodes, making them something of a time commitment, to say the very least.
Maybe a viewer is new to anime and isn't sure that they want to sink that much time into a single piece of media, or maybe they're a longtime fan who simply doesn't have the time or patience to sit through another 70 episodes until they finally reach the story arc their friends keep raving about. Luckily for those pressed for time, anime has a lot of excellent shorter shows that aren't held back by their length, coming in at 13 episodes or less. The best...

The Marines are one of the main factions in One Piece, and they act as the seaborne military of the World Government. The Marines maintain order by imposing the will of the World Government onto affiliated nations, making them one of the main antagonists of One Piece. That said, some Marines are genuinely good people. The Marines were unaccustomed to being hunted; but that changed when Cross Guild began issuing Marine bounties. Similar to pirate bounties, some Marines have higher bounties than others.
The value of these bounties is determined by each Marine's rank. The higher the rank, the higher the bounty, but a handful of lower ranked Marines have earned higher bounties because of their strength and reputations. Many Marines with the highest bounties use Haki, and many also possess powerful Devil Fruits.

Kenpachi Zaraki is one of the most popular characters in Bleach because he is a brutal warrior who loves fighting strong opponents. He is the Captain of Squad 11, making him one of the strongest Soul Reapers in Bleach. David Lodge voiced Kenpachi in the English dub from 2006 to 2012, and Patrick Seitz has been voicing him ever since. Over the course of their careers, both David and Patrick have provided voices for several notable anime characters.
Many of these characters, like Kenpachi, are strong fighters, but most of them possess significantly different personalities and motivations. Patrick has voiced more anime characters than David, but David has voiced a beloved character from an iconic anime, as well as a villainous marionette.

It's no stretch to say that My Hero Academia's Minoru Mineta may be the most controversial character in the entire franchise, but Mineta's English voice actor seems to have had enough with the hate that the character receives. Turning to Instagram, Mineta's voice actor Brina Palencia defended the character as "just a child."
Mineta is an often controversial character for falling into the "pervert" archetype, an unfortunately common class of character in anime and manga. Mineta approaches most things with a sexual bent, often harassing the girls in Class 1-a (and even pro heroes) whom he finds attractive. While these moments are often played for laughs, many My Hero Academia fans, particularly in the West, tend to find the character unpalatable at best and downright offensive at worst. As Mineta's English voice actor, Palencia felt the need to address some of the vitriol aimed at the character in a social media post.

Shnen is one of the most popular genres in anime. It's a genre targeting boys and young men, featuring amazing fights, awesome world-building, and some of the best friendships around. While it might not seem so, friendships are huge in shnen anime. Most protagonists have a best friend they can rely on, helping to push them to new heights. Some of the best friendships in shnen aren't between the protagonist, but between two other characters who have each other's backs no matter what.
To be a good friendship in shnen, the two characters need to trust each other completely. They need to be able to rely on each other, and they also need to be able to push each other. A good friend knows their friend's limit, but also believes in them enough to help them surpass their limits too.

My Hero Academia introduced anime fans to Shoto Todoroki, the boy who was born to be perfect. Shoto was born in a controversial Quirk marriage, an ideal blend of his father's fire-based Quirk and his mother's ice-based Quirk to create a born genius. However, Shoto couldn't stand being his father's tool and broke away to become a hero on his own, creating one of My Hero Academia's best arcs. It also helped that voice actor Yuki Kaji did an outstanding job voicing Shoto the entire time.
Mr. Kaji's fine work brought Shoto Todoroki to life in every way, from his emotionally tense muttering to shouted dialogue to his casual, carefree lines during the rare moments when Shoto feels relaxed. Any anime fan who enjoyed hearing Shoto Todoroki's lines is encouraged to check out other voice roles from Mr. Kaji and see how much he has contributed to the wider world of Japanese animation.

When an anime character glows up, they will rapidly improve and change themselves for the better. This can be done in a simple and realistic way, such as upgrading one's own wardrobe and personal image, while in shonen anime, glow-ups tend to be more drastic. When a shonen character glows up, they may return from a time skip and be older with greater power, or a character might glow up when they gain all-new powers and abilities overnight.
It's empowering and inspiring to see shonen characters glow up like that, especially when it's the result of hard work. Even if a glow-up isn't quite so sympathetic, the power-up will still open the doors to bigger and better battles as the hero fights in entirely new ways. Glow-ups are some of the best ways to push along a character's growth, a quantum leap where they go from zero to hero in a hurry.

Anime has some of the smartest characters in history. Shonen, especially, has many genius-level characters who use their intellect to do amazing things. Many of these individuals use their brains to the extreme benefit or detriment of society. With brilliant strategists like Shikamaru Nara or certified geniuses like Dr. Gero, anime has it all.
The question of brain vs brawn has long been debated, but these anime characters have cast their vote. Several of these characters have even used their intelligence to do the impossible, like traveling through time. Many of these characters are just as important, if not more so, to the story as their less intelligent counterparts.

Love knows no bounds, so when an anime villain ends up being romantically involved with the lead character, the fans cant help but root for their forbidden love. It happens more than often that the tension between the bad guy or gal is saucier and sizzling than the main characters. The following contains spoilers for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos: The Movie, now streaming on Netflix.
Originally created by Naoko Takeuchi as Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon in 1991, the popular manga series was published monthly in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine until its conclusion in 1997. Apart from being translated into multiple languages across the globe, the Sailor Moon manga also saw two anime adaptations, one live-action TV drama, and multiple stage productions in Japan. Despite its worldwide success, Sailor Moon has also seen its fair share of controversy between the '90s and 2000's for its inclusion of queer relationships and gender-fluid characters like Sailor Uranus and the Sailor Starlights.
While countries outside of Japan infamously censored Sailor Moon's queer characters in their localizations, only the Sailor Moon Sailor Stars anime (the most queer-heavy season that adapts the manga's final Stars storyline) was never brought to the US until two decades after its release in Japan.

In the context of Dragon Ball, Krillin is practically a joke character. He can't go Super Saiyan God, use Hakai or destroy entire timelines with a flick of his hand. But he's earned the title of Strongest Human Being in the World. Attack on Titan has featured a variety of different characters, all helming unique designs because of Hajime Isayama’s attention to detail. While he has never been too fond of the artistic prowess he possesses, there are times when the mangaka shines out. The way the series is drawn, it has a combination of sequences that can scar the reader through disturbing imagery or make them weep with how emotional things can get.

Oftentimes, in anime, the side characters are more popular than the protagonists. This is usually because the side characters are funnier or have powers that appeal more to audiences. Yet, a growing trend with side characters seems to be that any blonde character becomes much more popular than the protagonists.
Blonde side characters have a wide range of types. While they are often sunshiny, comical characters, that isnt always the case. Sometimes the blonde side characters are more charismatic or relatable to audiences. Others simply have better character arcs than the protagonist. Whatever the reason, these blonde anime side characters are widely loved.

Anime is a genre that lends itself to great tragedy. Anime are meant to make people feel powerful emotions. Not all anime are dramatic and sad. Many of the best anime are comedic or romantic. However, numerous shows - regardless of genre - suffer a game-changing character death at some point in their narrative.
Many anime character deaths are so shocking, gruesome, or heartbreaking that they irrevocably change the course of their stories. Character dynamics and development completely reverse or stop on a dime due to some of these tragic passings. Even if the deceased is a random side character, they can still have one of the biggest impacts on the tone of the rest of the anime.

Tagiru from Digimon Fusion's third season fails to leave a positive impression due to reckless and thoughtless behavior. Marcus from Digimon Data Squad sets himself apart with his age but lacks depth in solving things with fists. Mikey from Digimon Fusion is talented but lacks flaws, making him fun episodically but lacking emotional depth.
