Nigeria’s Nile Media Entertainment Group Teams With Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife & Bags Rights To Nollywood Feature ‘Wives On Strike: The Uprising’

Exclusive: Nigeria’s newest studio, Nile Media Entertainment Group, is already making moves.

The Lagos-based business has struck a partnership with Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife to roll out a luxury cinema experience across West Africa, and has secured global sales rights to Wives of Strike: The Uprising.

The pact with Abudu will see Nile, which is led by CEO Moses Babatope, and EbonyLife launching The Pods, which they bill as “major leap forward” in the West African cinema industry. Each Pod will offer a private, intimate setting with plush reclining seats, personal concierge service and access to curated film selections.

Nile and EbonyLife plan to launch 10 Pods per year over the next five years.

“The future of African entertainment hinges on robust partnerships and collaborative efforts,” said Bukky George-Taylor, VP of Nile Cinemas. “At The Nile Group, we are committed to forging strong alliances with local and international stakeholders to elevate the industry.

Amazon Sets Release Date for First African Movie ‘Gangs of Lagos’

Amazon is set to release its first original African movie, Gangs of Lagos, on Prime Video on April 7.

The action crime thriller is directed by Jáde Osiberu, and stars Nigerian actors Tobi Bakare, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Chukwuka, and Iyabo Ojo. The pic, filled with action scenes, centers on a group of childhood friends who each have to navigate growing up in the bustling streets and neighbourhood of Isale Eko, Lagos, the country’s largest city.

“As the first Nigerian original to launch on Prime Video, Gangs of Lagos sets the tone and standard, with the authentically Nigerian storyline in a genre that is so popular around the globe, making it a movie for our audiences at home and abroad,” said Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, head of Nigerian originals at Prime Video, in a statement.

Prime Video is taking audiences to Africa with “Gangs of Lagos”.

The streamer announced its first original African movie on Monday set in Nigeria. The film comes from acclaimed filmmaker, Jáde Osiberu, who serves as director and stars Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Chukwuka, and Iyabo Ojo.
