Based on Japanese folklore, the Thai monster movie Omukade is in post-production now, and Bloody Disgusting is exclusively debuting the wild trailer for the Yokai nightmare.

Pakphum Wongjinda and Chalit Krileadmongkon directed Omukade, which hasn’t yet been acquired for U.S. distribution. Watch the trailer below and stay tuned for more.

Thailand Creative Culture Agency (Thacca) has announced a bumper lineup of 86 projects as recipients of a new funding scheme designed to support the development and production of the local creative industry and strengthen the country’s soft power on the global stage.

In collaboration with Thailand’s Ministry of Culture and Film Industry Subcommittee, the funding scheme will disburse $6.4m (THB220m) to the selected projects, which include films, series, documentaries and animation.

Thai sales and production company Neramitnung Film has scored major deals for Chookiat Sakveerakul’s Taklee Genesis, including Capelight Pictures for North America, the UK and Germany.

The time travel adventure has also been sold to Cis (Kinologistika), India (Om Sakthi Movie Arts), Singapore and Philippines (KillerMud Films), Malaysia, Brunei, and Vietnam (Suraya Filem), Cambodia and Laos (Westec Media), Taiwan (MovieCloud), Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau (Prime Video) and inflight (Vitality).

It is set to be the first Thai film to be distributed by Warner Bros in Thailand when it opens on September 12, including in IMAX.

As we have mentioned many times the past few years, it seems that the future of Asian cinema lies somewhere among the Asean countries, with the filmmakers from the particular region having both the inspiration and the command of the medium to present new things, both in terms of stories and cinematic approach. Malaysia in particular seems to have one of its greatest years in that regard, with the huge success of “Tiger Stripes” being the tip of the iceberg. Indonesian audience seems to have returned to cinemas even more massively than before the pandemic, the Filipino film industry is also experiencing a boom in the last few years, particularly in amount of titles, while the rest of the countries in the region are following close by, mostly through approaches that combine genre with art-house filmmaking.

Kicking off Hulu’s Huluween 2023 celebration, the body horror movie Appendage just debuted on the streaming service yesterday, so it’s now available for your consumption.

Appendage is Anna Zlokovic’s feature directorial debut, based on her 2021 short of the same name. The horror movie stars Hadley Robinson and Emily Hampshire.

In the film, “Hannah (Hadley Robinson), a young fashion designer, seems fine on the surface, but secretly struggles with debilitating self-doubt. Soon these buried feelings begin to make Hannah physically sick and sprout into a ferocious growth on her body: The Appendage.

As the title suggests, Creepy Crawly is about a bug. Lots of them, in fact. This Thai horror movie’s original title of The 100 alluded to its predatory antagonist’s many legs, but the new name now eliminates any chance of vagueness. The renaming might also indicate a sense of fun. However, viewers will quickly realize this story of people trapped in a hotel with a giant centipede monster takes itself rather seriously. Maybe too much so.

In the world of Creepy Crawly, society is still dealing with Covid-19. The Pandemic is at its peak, and death and sickness is on everyone’s minds. Directors Chalit Krileadmongkon (The Beast Below) and Pakphum Wongjinda play on that relatable vulnerability and paranoia by introducing a blatantly metaphorical threat: the parasitic monster that passes from person to person like a communicable disease. The tension is then magnified by using a single location for most of the movie.

Released in Thailand last year, the creature feature The 100 has been renamed Creepy Crawly for its U.S. release from Well Go USA, and the official trailer has been unleashed today.

Creepy Crawly debuts on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD on October 3, 2023.

Co-written and co-directed by Chalit Krileadmongkon (The Beast Below) and Pakphum Wongjinda (Possessed), the film stars Chanya McClory (Sang Krasue 2), Pirat Nitipaisalkul [Aka Mike Angelo] (The Misfits), and Benjamin Joseph Varney (Friend Zone).

In Creepy Crawly, “While quarantining at a Thailand hotel, guests begin disappearing with no explanation from staff, leaving the group to wonder whether there may be some truth to local urban legends about a terrifying creature rumored to possess its victims.”

Charoen Kaithitisuwan, Chalit Kraileadmongkon, Pakphum Wongjinda, and Mike Angelo wrote the script for Creepy Crawly. Punyanet Tanaprapass produced the creature feature.

Well Go USA has acquired North American rights to the creature feature The 100, a Thai horror movie that features a giant centipede.

From directors Chalit Kraileadmongkon and Pakphum Wongjinda, the film centers on a giant centipede and its spawns, and it’s one of four giant monster movies attacking Thailand this year following Leio: The Terrible Giant and The Lake.

In The 100, “Fame and Phil, two popular sibling YouTubers, check in to Srichanphen Hotel for a state-mandated 14-day quarantine during the height of the pandemic. Also in Fame’s and Phil’s group are Leo, a quiet young man who arrives with his sister Lena and their father, and Steve, an ill-tempered American. In the hotel, they encounter strange events.

Thailand’s Neramitnung Film has closed a raft of post-afm deals on creature thriller The 100, including with distributors in the US, China and throughout Asia.

Well Go USA has taken all rights for North America and Teamer Media International has secured non-theatrical rights for China. All rights to the feature have also been acquired for Taiwan (Movie Cloud) and Malaysia and Brunei (Suraya Filem) while Shiva has taken theatrical rights for Vietnam.

Though you may not know them by name, Eakasit Thairatana and Pakphum Wonjinda are two of the more important names in Thai horror film.  Thairatana is the writer of hits 13 Beloved and Body #19 while Wonjinda helmed gleefully ludicrous splatter film Scared, in which he impaled as many frightened Thai teens on stakes as was humanly possible to include within that film's run time. And now the two of them are joining forces for Who Are You, a horror thriller built around the Japanese social phenomenon of hikkomori - extreme social recluses who shut themselves up in their rooms for years at a time. 

In this particular story a teen boy shuts himself in, communicating with his family only through a series of notes slid under the door until his mother begins to suspect that whoever - or whatever - is shut up in that room is not her son after all.

Great news. Thai film director Pakphum Wonjinda - who brought us the superbly entertainingly gory 2005 teen slasher ‘Scared,’ and high tech frightener ‘Vdo clip’ - is returning to the horror fold with a new film titled Who Are You. We’re still trying to nail down an accurate summary of the plot, but it does seem his latest work will have a more haunted house type of vibe, heavier on atmosphere and chills, rather than all out splatter.
