10 Shows Like Sons of Anarchy With No Redeemable Characters
Image
Sons of Anarchy features many characters who are both fan favorites but also irredeemable. Set in a world of crime and chaos, bad situations lead to even worse choices. Before anyone realizes, things are too far gone to be saved.

Shows with no redeemable characters have their own charm. They tend to tackle dark and forbidden topics like revenge, cannibalism and war. Many shows have irredeemable characters like Jax. They may have done one really bad thing, or they have done several over the course of the entire series. From House of the Dragon to Yellowjackets to Breaking Bad, these pitch-black and morally grey characters have caused fans to think about the damning choices they made.

Walter White Is Far Gone in Breaking Bad

As Breaking Bad's protagonist, Walter White is a sympathetic character, similar to Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy. However, throughout the course of the crime series,...

10 TV Characters The Shows Didnt Know What To Do With
Image
Sometimes, TV shows introduce characters who seem fundamental to the story, but it becomes clear that the writers aren't sure what to do with them after their initial storyline. The result is often that the TV show will repeat the same story many times, focusing on one character. Maybe said character will eventually be written out of the show when the actor or writers have had enough, but they may be needed for one particular future storyline.

Some TV show love interests that were suddenly dropped and great female TV characters that deserved better ended up in these circumstances because creativity had run out concerning their arcs. Great TV shows should effectively use all their characters, at least providing a reason for them to be shelved for a while if screen time is limited. However, it is hard to feel like some shows did not waste characters when they are...

10 TV Shows Where The Protagonist Is Also The Villain
Image
Villain protagonists can carry a TV show with complex characters and brilliant acting. Shows like Breaking Bad and Veep feature characters who become morally worse. The most compelling TV characters are complex, showcasing human imperfection and moral ambiguity.

There are numerous widely acclaimed TV shows where the protagonist is essentially the villain, although they may be the hero of their own story. Some of the TV characters with the best development ever demonstrate negative development, where they only become worse people as the series progresses. It still makes for amazing TV when the show can illustrate the psychology of this character's fall in a dark and nuanced story.

Through a combination of character charisma and brilliant acting, a villain protagonist can carry an excellent TV show about the nature of evil. Because of the villainous characters' complexities, some of the best TV actors of all time are remembered for playing villains or anti-heroes.

Image
Longtime character actor Mark Margolis died on Thursday at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital following a short illness, according to multiple reports. He was 83.

Perhaps best known for his role as paralyzed mob enforcer Hector “Tio” Salamanca on “Breaking Bad” — and later, “Better Call Saul” — Margolis got his start studying under Stella Adler at the Actors Studio. He began acting in the mid-1970s, before his breakthrough role as Alberto the Shadow in 1983’s iconic crime epic “Scarface”.

Other memorable performances included his roles as intimidating landlord Mr. Shickadance in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and HIV-infected mob boss Antonio Nappa on “Oz”. Margolis was a particular favourite of director Darren Aronofsky, appearing in six of his films: “Pi”, “Requiem for a Dream”, “The Fountain”, “The Wrestler”, “Black Swan” and “Noah”.

His final acting performance was a “Breaking Bad” reunion of sorts, as he appeared in two episodes of...

Behind Hollywood’s Rise in Suicides – and What to Do About It
Image
The tragic deaths of “Euphoria” actor Angus Cloud and Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor are only the latest stark reminders of Hollywood’s prevalent mental health and suicide crisis.

Although, as of this writing, neither has been officially determined to have died by suicide, both had been open about their struggles with mental health.

After every high-profile suicide, such as “Breaking Bad” actor Mike Batayeh, country singer Naomi Judd and “So You Can Think You Can Dance” judge Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the question is debated whether the industry, as a whole, has done enough to support people who may be in crisis.

“Euphoria” actor Angus Cloud was open about his mental struggle, family said.

A number of mental health experts told TheWrap that although suicides among the general population rose during the pandemic, people who work in entertainment can be particularly vulnerable.

“Entertainment is already an occupational group that’s at increased risk,...

EJ Assi and Nada Shouhayib in Detroit Unleaded (2012)
A more romantic variation on Clerks, Detroit Unleaded charts the budding relationship between Lebanese-American gas station owner Sami (Ej Assi) and his beautiful cousin Naj (Nada Shouhayib).

After his father is killed in a robbery, Sami is compelled to take over the family's Detroit-slums business with his ambitious cousin Mike (Mike Batayeh). Naj and Sami's meet-cute takes place in "the cage," the area located behind the counter and bulletproof-glass partition, and that space provides a fitting metaphor for Sami's feelings of being trapped in a life he didn't choose.

Director Rola Nashef's visuals can be clunky, and her script's conversational dialogue is occasionally stilted. Nonetheless, she draws her characters in sharp lines, so that the gaggle of cu...
