The duo plan to adapt the work into a film, which will mark the feature debut from writer-director McIndoo. McFarlane will produce under her recently launched Essential Viewing banner. Keegan will serve as executive producer.
This project will mark the second collaboration between McFarlane and McIndoo, following their recent short film A Love Letter to M, starring André Holland and Phoebe Tonkin. A Love Letter to M premiered at the 2025 Indy Shorts International Film Festival.
“I am so excited to be working with Maria in bringing So Late in the Day to life,” McFarlane said. “There are so many things that I love about this short story: the subtlety, the nuance, that every word is written with intent and that it...

Paul Wesley is all set to be married a third time as he has proposed to his girlfriend, Natalie Kuckenburg. He was previously married twice and was in a high-profile relationship with one of his co-stars from The Vampire Diaries. Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore, began dating Phoebe Tonkin, who played Hayley Marshall, after his split from his then-wife Torrey DeVitto.
The two Vampire Diaries actors had an on-and-off relationship during their time on the show from September 2013 to October 2017. They spent a Christmas with Tonkin’s family in Sydney, Australia, during their relationship. Tonkin once spoke about the actor during an interview with Elle in March 2015, where she called him her “best friend.”
She shared, “It’s such a fun time in my life right now. It’s nice to have someone to share all that with.” Tonkin and Wesley called it quits on their relationship in October 2017. Tonkin...

Rewatching The Originals on Prime Video is a lot more daunting than watching it for the first time. While there is a lot to understand and realize, one episode in Season 5 of the series reveals one of the most blatant lies that Elijah ever told Klaus.
In the fifth episode of season five, the older Mikaelson brother tells his hybrid brother that he was beaten right along with him. However, viewers who have seen multiple flashbacks know the real story that the noble Mikaelson, who died along with his brother in the series’ finale, not only helped Esther and Ansel but also physically restrained them at times.

The Originals is full of morally grey characters whose actions and motivations are constantly shifting. However, one character who remains a point of division amongst fans is Davina Claire. Originally introduced as a young, tragic witch, her arc truly became one of the stories of arrogance and recklessness.
Upon re-watching, it became clear that Davina was set up to lose from the start. While she possesses incredible power and a strong moral compass, her impulsiveness ultimately led her down a path of destruction. There’s no denying that Davina was a witch doomed from the start.

Davina was introduced in The Originals as a Harvest Girl. She was chosen by her coven to be sacrificed for a greater magical cause. Her own mother turned her back on her, allowing her to be sacrificed for power.

It would have been a monumental upset and one of the entertainment industry’s lowest moments if Joseph Morgan’s Klaus had been killed in The Vampire Diaries. But that is exactly what the writers were planning to do.
Unaware of the icon they had created, who would end up becoming one of the most famous characters in the history of the genre, Klaus Mikaleson was destined for his demise at the end of Season 3 of Tvd. Fortunately for Morgan and for fans of The Originals, not only did the writers realize the character’s worth, but ended up fashioning a whole spin-off on him.

Few enjoy making pop culture references as much as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries. Having a unique and ridiculous nickname for everyone he meets, he is a character who enjoys annoying those around him. Most of them seem irrelevant and don’t have a deeper meaning, being a momentary laugh in the drama that is constant in the series.
However, there was one joke that Damon made that could have had more weight to it than we initially realized. Could a simple joke about Harry Potter be setting up something four years in the future?

While The Vampire Diaries is iconic as a standalone, the CW expanded its universe into two more iconic shows. The Originals stands as a completely different atmosphere compared to the original series, with many thinking it to be better.

In the pantheon of supernatural television dramas, there are only a handful of those that have managed to capture fans’ attention, continuing to build a fan base even years after their conclusion. Well, The Originals is certainly one of them.
The Vampire Diaries spinoff has managed to keep audiences hooked with its complex interplay of family dynamics, redemption arcs, and shocking sacrifices, building a fan base that extends beyond demarcated boundaries. Centered on the Mikaelson family—the first vampires to ever have been created—the show is more than just a tale about supernatural beings and their conflicts.
Delving deep into their thousand-year saga of love, betrayal, and relentless pursuit of redemption, at the heart of it all is a tale of two brothers, who have always stuck through all that has come their way: Klaus and Elijah Mikaleson. Although they are not the only Mikaelson sibling (there are seven!

Just when 2012’s Bait (a.k.a. Bait 3D) was swimming the way of other killer shark movies made in Jaws’ wake, its story eventually changed direction. Director Kimble Rendall didn’t follow that set pattern of bringing humans to the water. Quite the opposite; Bait brought the water, along with man-eating great whites, to them. And the end result is one example of “sharksploitation” that’s only become more unique as time goes by.
If not for Teen Wolf, Bait would have been helmed by another Aussie who knew his way around deadly creatures. Scheduling issues, however, led to Russell Mulcahy handing the project over to Kimble Rendall. Even so, Mulcahy’s idea remained intact, albeit now revised by a whole team of writers. Whatever was changed in the process of switching out directors, though, didn’t include altering the movie’s setting of a supermarket. The thrill of...

Portrayed by Nina Dobrev in The Vampire Diaries, Elena Gilbert was introduced as a compassionate, kind, empathetic, and intelligent young woman who quickly captured the attention of everyone around her. However, as the series progressed, her character evolved dramatically, especially after her transition into vampirism.
Once a caring and selfless person, Elena gradually became a reckless vampire with little regard for those closest to her, let alone for human life. This drastic shift in her morality and behavior has long frustrated and divided fans of the series.

If you still remember teen fantasy shows like The Vampire Diaries and Riverdale that went on for far too long, even after their stories had no steam left, but you might not remember the shows in this list, as they had so much more story to tell, but they were canceled way too soon. Teen fantasy shows were all the rage in the 2010s and that’s why there were so many of them but most of them didn’t hit as hard as The Vampire Diaries or Teen Wolf, but that doesn’t mean that the shows that were canceled were not as good or even better then these two shows. That’s the reason why we decided to compile a list of seven great (or underrated) teen fantasy shows that had great potential but were canceled way too soon.

Phoebe Tonkin, the fierce and fiery Hayley Marshall from The Originals, just stepped into a whole new role—this time not as a hybrid mom tangled in supernatural drama, but as a glowing bride. Yep, the 35-year-old Aussie actress, who first won hearts in The Vampire Diaries, is officially off the market. While fans were still busy daydreaming about her on-screen love stories, Tonkin was busy building a real-life romance behind the scenes. And now, she’s married. The lucky guy? Bernard Lagrange. Not exactly a household name, but once you peek into who he is, the match starts making perfect sense.
Let’s be real—when Tonkin posted those engagement pics in October 2024, fans lost it. She didn’t make a big announcement. Instead, she casually dropped a few cozy shots with a blink-and-you-will-miss-it diamond ring flashing on her finger. Subtle, stylish, very Tonkin. But now that the secret...

When "The Vampire Diaries" hit The CW in 2009, the network had no idea how this YA dark fantasy series would be received. Vampire narratives on television weren't exactly a novelty at the time, as mega-popular shows like "True Blood" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" were already exploring intriguing facets of the genre. Then there was the "Twilight" of it all, amassing mainstream attention (and scrutiny) with its focus on teen supernatural romance and the challenges of girlhood.
So when "The Vampire Diaries" opened with a young Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) struggling with grief while being entangled with two vampire brothers, the show's premise ran the risk of retreading stale genre tropes. However, eight seasons and a spin-off (2013's "The Originals") later, "The Vampire Diaries" emerged as the face of teen-centered vampire drama that wasn't afraid to venture into dark corners. Despite its flaws, the series promised a bold, exciting world...

Despite The Originals ending several years ago, there are still those who wonder why brothers Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson were killed off. The shokcing moment signified the end of Klaus' redemption journey and though the deaths were clear, the reasons behind it weren't. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) deaths set up the foundations for Legacies and ensured that the two most pivotal Mikaelson siblings to the franchise would never be seen again. It also meant they couldn't be there for Hope.
The Originals expanded on the Klaus and Elijah backstory and the Shakespearean depth of their familial dysfunction: a group of siblings turned into monsters by their parents who repeatedly tried to destroy their children after realizing their mistake. Klaus was considered the most vicious, villainous, duplicitous, ambitious, and powerful Mikaelson clan member. He was given the opportunity to rediscover his humanity and repair his fractured family...

The Vampire Diaries stars Candice King and Nina Dobrev reunite with near disastrous results.
In a December 7 X post from PopCrave, The Vampire Diaries star Candice King can been seen rushing to catch a falling backdrop which would have otherwise crashed directly into costar Nina Dobrev. After moving out of the way, a second section of the panel backdrop falls over, landing on the back of the chair King was sitting in originally. Ultimately, no one was hurt.

A rough boxing drama comes to life in the dusty, sun-baked Western Australia of the 1970s. It’s more than just another story about punches and forgiveness. “Kid Snow” is a one-of-a-kind piece of Australian film. It brings the world of traveling tent boxing shows back to life with raw realism and gripping human drama.
Paul Goldman, known for movies with complex plots like “Suburban Mayhem,” directed the movie. It is about an Irish boxer named Kid Snow, played by Billy Howle. Stories about family, survival, and the never-ending search for second chances are told against the background of a moving carnival.
The story of Goldman’s return to making movies after 18 years is a story of resilience, just like the movie’s ideas. Kid Snow is a thoughtful look at broken people trying to get away from their past, set in the rough-and-tumble world of bush entertainment.

Billy Howle and Phoebe Tonkin give compelling performances but, as a sports movie and a period drama, Paul Goldman’s film is going through the motions

Tent boxing is an interesting subject for a movie: a now-defunct Australian recreation positioned on the Venn diagram overlay between sports event and circus act, involving troupes of fighters performing low-rent spectacles for outback audiences.
It’s at the centre of director Paul Goldman’s 70s-set drama Kid Snow, whose scruffy titular character – played by Billy Howle – is a bottomed-out Irish boxer who has become part of this world, working for a show run by his brother Rory (Tom Bateman).

As a result, DeVitto admitted that she had no interest in continuing to work on The Vampire Diaries with Wesley following their divorce.
“I was [on it], but I only did like six episodes. And then once we were splitting up I was like, ‘Pfft, not going back there,...

The CW missed a big opportunity with "The Secret Circle" as a potential replacement for "The Vampire Diaries." Consistency is key for new shows to succeed, but "The Secret Circle" faced hiatuses that hurt its momentum. With captivating visuals and exciting storylines, "The Secret Circle" had the potential to surpass "The Vampire Diaries."
The Vampire Diaries was a massive hit for The CW, but I'll never forget the network's controversial decision to cancel its best replacement. The series in question had a fantastic cast comprising well-known names and newer actors, who all came together to craft a great show. For much of the time this series was on the air, it was better than The Vampire Diaries. Both shows had many of the same people working behind the scenes, so it felt like The CW wanted to replicate the popularity of The Vampire Diaries.
It's a shame it didn't get a big enough chance.

Night Shift, from Benjamin China and Paul China, is a horror film about a hotel you don’t want to visit. The Bates Motel and The Overlook Hotel are worse places, but The All Tucked Inn is definitely on my list of Vacation Spots To Be Avoided. Its kitschy name is really the most fun thing about it. The building is worn, the guest rooms are sparse and bedraggled, there are decades-old taxidermied animals everywhere, and you can practically smell the musty order through the screen. And there are rats. It’s safe to say this hotel has seen better days.
That being said, it is absolutely the kind of hotel you don’t mind visiting vicariously through a screen. While you’re snuggled up safe on your rat-free couch, you can enjoy the experience of watching someone else roam the dark hallways and explore the dusty rooms and deal...

Challengers star Mike Faist and Talk to Me breakout Sophie Wilde have a date with Chopard during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The luxury jeweler has selected the actors to receive the prestigious Trophée Chopard, an award doled out since 2001 at the invitation of the house’s Caroline Scheufele as a way to honor cinema’s rising stars. Faist and Wilde will receive the trophies during a glitzy dinner at Carlton Beach on May 17. As previously announced, godmother Demi Moore will take the stage and present the pair with the honors.
The winners are selected by an academy comprising previous winners as well as those who have served as godmothers and godfathers at the ceremony. Winners have included Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Diane Kruger, Niels Schneider, Florence Pugh, Jessie Buckley, Naomie Ackie and Daryl McCormack.
Faist can currently be seen on screen in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers opposite Zendaya and Josh O’Connor.

Up until recently I worked the night shift in a hotel, so I know how creepy it can feel at times, especially when you’re getting used to the place with all of the building’s odd little noises and quirks. That’s the position Gwen finds herself in.
Recently moved into the area and in need of money, she’s answered an ad for a temporary overnight position at the All Tucked Inn. The owner Teddy, who seems to be making his story up as he goes along, tells her the woman who regularly does the job has been sidelined with medical issues. He’d love to stay and help, but he has a date. But there’s nothing to worry about, this is a quiet, peaceful place where nothing ever happens.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a sequel to the 2021 reboot Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and the film will once again reunite the original Ghostbusters members with the new batch. The previous movie delved deep into the origins of the Spengler family and the ghost-hunting tradition left behind. It effectively paid tribute to Harold Ramis, known for playing Egon Spengler in the first movies of the franchise. He sadly passed away in 2014.
Picking up from where Ghostbusters: Afterlife left, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is setting up a wilder, more ambitious threat with Garraka, the new villain. In the sequel, the Spengler family and their allies accidentally unleash an ancient curse upon New York City, triggering a second Ice Age that has the potential to destroy the whole world. But what faces will be in the movie to bust some ghosts?
