JoBlo TV roundup: Check out the free movies we shared this week! Death Cast, Pumpkins, & Game of Dragons
Maria Lee Metheringham and Will Metheringham in Pumpkins (2018)
At the end of September, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – but for the month of October, we were celebrating Halloween all month long with our JoBlotober event. It was all horror all the time… and while the event is now over, as Halloween has come and gone, two of the three movies we released this week were still JoBlotober horror releases.

The movies that have been released on JoBlo TV over the last week are the slasher Death Cast, the supernatural horror film Pumpkins, and (to kick off November) the action fantasy film Game of Dragons. Here’s some information on each one of them:

Written and directed by Bobby Marinelli,...

‘Carnivore: Werewolf of London’ DVD Review
Stars: Ben Loyd-Holmes, Atlanta Johnson, Gregory Cox, Molly Ruskin, Ethan Ruskin, Matthew Bancroft, Adam Logan, Yana Penrose, Dani Thompson, Shaquille Taylor, Adrian Blake, James Ayling | Written and Directed by Simon Wells

[Note: With the film now released on DVD in the UK, here's a repost of our review of Carnivore: Werewolf of London from its VOD release earlier this year]

I love werewolf movies. I really do. The struggle between man and the beast within is a timeless idea and one that, told well, can truly be a thing of beauty but the werewolf movie is a tricky thing to pull off. Sometimes, such as in the case of stone-cold classics like An American Werewolf in London or The Howling, they get it just right and it works. Other times, such as in the case of the “sequel” to the best werewolf film ever made or something like Underworld films, it’s a heartless mess of CGI where that idea is simply lost.

Personally, as a film-maker myself...

Frightfest 2014: ‘The Expedition’ Review
Stars: Daniel Caren, Sarah Mac, Ben Loyd-Holmes, Neil Newbon, Emma Lillie Lees, Simon Burbage, Dolores Reynals, Ross O’Hennessey, Ernesto Cantu, Angela Peters | Written by Adam Spinks, Ben Loyd-Holmes | Directed by Adam Spinks

Yet again the cheap, occasionally effective but utterly done to death format of the found footage film finds its way onto our screens once more. Only this time, there’s dinosaurs. It’s The T-Rex Project, or Mesozoic Activity, if you will.

We’re expected to believe we’re being presented with footage from a documentary team recording some natural historians on locations in the South American rainforest, seeking out new species. Brash cameraman James (Daniel Caren) accompanies sceptical presenter Michelle (Sarah Mac) on The Expedition. The aloof but esteemed Professor Howson (Ben Loyd-Holmes, who also co-writes with director Adam Spinks) is their guide and a couple of other scientists and explorer/adventurer types flesh out the cast.

Directed by Paul Tanter (The Rise And Fall Of The White Collar Hooligan) He Who Dares is the tense and brutal tale of six Sas soldiers called in to infiltrate a multi-storey building taken over by a gang of ruthless terrorists.

With the terrorists barricaded deep within the building, and holding the Prime Minister’s daughter hostage, the elite team of Sas troops are left with only one way in and one way out. Indie Spotlight
We’re back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes VOD release information for Armistice, multiple teaser trailers, a Q&A with Matt Thompson from Bloodline, and a preview of Dept. of Monsterology:

Dept. of Monsterology: ”Officially, it’s the Department of Cryptozoology, Mythological Studies, Parapsychology and Fortean Phenomena. But to the rest of the students and staff at the Dunsany College, baffled by the cloak of secrecy that surrounds the Department and its affairs, it has another, more dismissive, name: The Department of Monsterology. Funded by the mysterious Hampton Foundation, the Dept. operates several field teams that roam the globe on extended research expeditions.

Their brief: to investigate the dark and unexplored corners of our world – the places we’ve forgotten, lost or believe to be mythical. And to study those things that may still be lurking there.

Due out at the end of the year, we’ve been given the first poster for He Who Dares to debut, bearing the slogan, ‘Fight. Kill. Win.’ Just the kind of sentiment you want from an action film.

Travel Light with Rupert Bryan's The Hike: A Movie Review
*here be spoilers. Director: Rupert Bryan. Writers: Rupert Bryan and Ben Loyd-Holmes. Cast: Tamer Hassan, Barbara Nedeljakova, Ben Loyd-Holmes, Zara Phythian, Daniel Caren, Dominic Le Moignan, Jemma Bolt, Lisa-Marie Long, and Shauna Macdonald. There have been many films developed in the rape revenge genre. From I Spit on Your Grave (1978) to Irreversible, there are issues of violence and power shown in this style of film. Rupert Bryan's The Hike is much less violent than the films mentioned here. The villains seem more content with fondling a group of female hikers rather than acting out their dark desires. Thus, The Hike begins as a tepid rape revenge thriller that transitions into a standard horror feature with the ending and music two of only a few quality film elements. Five girls, Torri (Barbara Nedeljakova), Kate (Zara Phythian), Charlie (Jemma Bolt), Ellie (Lisa-Marie Long) and Leanne (Stephanie Siadatan), head out on a camping trip to escape their.
