Samuel Goldwyn Films Acquires WWII Drama ‘The Last Rifleman’ Starring Pierce Brosnan

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights to The Last Rifleman, a WWII veteran drama starring Pierce Brosnan (The Great Lillian Hall).

Written by Kevin Fitzpatrick and directed by Terry Loane, the film will be released in theaters on November 8. Other titles set for that frame include Focus Features’ awards prospect Conclave from Edward Berger, Lionsgate’s family comedy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Vertical’s sci-fi thriller Elevation starring Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin, and Sony/Crunchyroll’s Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom.

Inspired by a true story, The Last Rifleman centers on Brosnan’s Artie Crawford, a World War II veteran living in a care home in Northern Ireland who has just lost his wife. On the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, he decides to escape his care home and embarks on a journey to France to pay his final respects.

Exclusive: Production underway on thriller from The Survivalist and A Patch Of Fog scheme.

Principal photography is underway in Northern Ireland on thriller Bad Day For The Cut, which is backed by Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme, which has previously supported features including Stephen Fingleton’s The Survivalist and Michael Lennox’s A Patch of Fog.

Bad Day For The Cut is the first film from production outfit Six Mile Hill and follows a farmer who seeks revenge for the murder of this mother and is drawn into a world of violence where he discovers a devastating secret about his family.

The film stars Nigel O’Neill (The Secret) alongside Susan Lynch (Happy Valley), Stuart Graham (The Frankenstein Chronicles) and young charges Jozef Pawłowski (Jack Strong) and Anna Próchniak (Warsaw 44).

Audience Award is Icing on the 'Cup Cake'
Feature film 'Cup Cake' has been awarded the Audience Award at this year's Belfast Film Festival. The Northern Ireland Screen funded project is directed by Colin McIvor and stars Adam Best (Holby City). 'Cup Cake' was selected by Northern Ireland Screen as part of their Ultra Low Budget Fiction Fund. The feature, which filmed Ballymoney, County Antrimm is written by Christine Murphy (Doctors), produced by Katy Jackson (Charlotte's Red) and directed by Colin McIvor (Driven) with Cian de Buitlear (Man About Dog) as the project's director of photography using a HD cam on the four-week long shoot.
