Exclusive: Apple is in early development on a limited series about Claus von Bülow, the socialite who was accused in 1981 of attempting to murder his wife Sunny. Adolescence creator Jack Thorne is attached to write and executive produce.

The project, which attracted multiple bidders, is produced by Story Syndicate through its deal with Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner). Tomorrow Studios will produce and serve as studio. Pressman Film will also produce.

A rep for Apple declined comment.

In 1990, the von Bülow story was told on the big screen in Reversal of Fortune, which starred Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons and was produced by Edward R. Pressman and Oliver Stone. It was based on the 1986 book Reversal of Fortune: Inside the von Bülow Case, written by then-law professor Alan Dershowitz. Irons earned an Oscar for his portrayal of the lawyer-turned-socialite.

The movie recounts how Sunny endured a diabetic shock and fell into a coma.

Exclusive: The BBC smashed its creative diversity targets by £60M ($80M) last year, as the person responsible for ensuring the corporation works with under-represented voices tells us her team is now completely embedded in the commissioning process.

Revealed in its BBC Commissioning Report for the year to March 31 2025, the broadcaster said it spent £140M on shows that qualify for its creative diversity commitment, when its target was to spend around £80M. This figure bested the previous year’s spend by £35M and means the BBC is on its way to comfortably beating its target of spending £240M on both TV and radio across the three years to 2027.

Jessica Schibli, the BBC’s Head of Creative Diversity, told us the “whopping increase” is the result of a shift in “mindset perspective” that has seen her team become “integrated and fully woven through every ounce” of the TV commissioning process.

Tina Fey and Charlie Brooker have joined what is gearing up to be a seriously splashy 50th edition of the Edinburgh TV Festival.

Comedy icon Fey, star of 30 Rock and the creator of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Four Seasons, will chat with Irish TV Host Graham Norton on stage on the final day of the fest, which takes place next month. “Fey brings her distinct charm, wit and insight to this lively conversation with beloved broadcaster Graham Norton,” Edinburgh said.

With 71 submissions, this year's Best Limited Series/Movie Writing category will have just five finalists when the nominations are announced Tuesday. Exclusive: Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, co-creators of hit anthology series Black Mirror, have left their Netflix-owned production company Broke & Bones.

The Emmy winners have stepped down as directors of Broke & Bones, five years after founding the company and securing investment from Netflix in a first-of-its-kind deal.

Deadline first revealed the $100M agreement in 2020, which we noted at the time was structured over five years. Brooker and Jones have reached the end of this term and are leaving.

Netflix declined to comment.

Black Mirror has not been formally renewed beyond Season 7 by Netflix, but the streamer is said to be committed to the series. Brooker and Jones’ exit from Broke & Bones is unlikely to change this.

Theoretically, they could now consider working on projects for other streamers or networks, given they were exclusive to Netflix at Broke & Bones.

After flying to London in April to meet with director Sam Mendes, the Beatles drummer revealed he had issues with how his first marriage to Maureen Starkey Tigrett was depicted in the script for the upcoming four-part biopic about the legendary British rock band, which is penned by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne.

Don’t worry, Beatles fan: Ringo Starr is involved in that upcoming four-part Beatles biopic. The iconic drummer recently told The New York Times that he met with director Sam Mendes to go through one of the scripts line-by-line. The duo collaborated together for two days in April 2025.

While Starr did not cite which out of the assumed four scripts he reviewed, Jez Butterworth (“Ford v Ferrari”), Peter Straughan (“Conclave”) and Jack Thorne (“Adolescence”) are all announced as writing the screenplays.

Starr said he gave “extensive notes” to director Mendes while fact-checking the scripts. The scenes in particular that depicted Starr’s family and his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett (whose casting has not yet been announced), were among the sequences that Starr urged to have reworked.

Per Deadline, Bella Ramsey will play the titular character of Maya in the new series titled Maya alongside co-lead Daisy Haggard. Haggard, who voiced Lift in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenixand Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

In addition to starring in Maya, Haggard also created and wrote the six-part series. In the show, Ramsey will star as Maya, the teenage daughter of Haggard’s character, Anna. The duo must leave their London lives and are forced into witness protection with new identities in a small Scottish town. All the while, the pair are being pursued by two hitmen.

Maya is a Dark Comedy With Intense Themes

The new show is described as “atmospheric, darkly comic, aping the warm and humorous style of Haggard’s previous shows.
