Maybe it’s not such a cruel summer after all. Variety has learned exclusively from sources that a third season of “Cruel Summer” is currently in development at Hulu and Freeform.
Olivia Holt would star in and executive produce the new season, reprising the role of Kate Wallis from Season 1 of the series. In addition, Cori Uchida and Adam Lash have boarded as showrunners and executive producers. Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple would once again executive produce via Iron Ocean. Lionsgate TV is the studio.
Reps for Disney declined to comment.
“Cruel Summer” was originally created by Bert V. Royal. The series debuted on Freeform in 2021 and quickly became the most-watched show in the network’s history. It was renewed for a second season not long after its launch, but it was later reported that the show would go the anthology route with an entirely new cast, new storyline, and...

Stephanie Arcila’s Fire Country co-stars agree: “It’s a shocker” that she is not returning as a series regular for Season 4 — especially since no exit storyline was even hinted at in last month’s otherwise cliffhanger-filled finale.
Working the red carpet at CBS’ recent schedule-reveal shindig, TVLine asked Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr and Jules Latimer if they had heard anything — or had theories — on why Gabby will suddenly be missing from Edgewater when Season 4 arrives this fall.

When the Season 3 finale of Fire Country ended, fans believe that biggest thing they had to worry about what whether or not any of the trapped members of the Leone family would survive the fire.
However, shortly after the end of the finale, it was announce that Gabriella Perez (Stephanie Arcila) would be exiting the show along with another unconfirmed actor. Gabriella’s exit was to leave town.
Gabriella Perez Is Leaving Town
Fire Country spoilers indicate that Vince Leone (Billy Burke) seems to be the other actor who is ready to leave. Gabriella’s exit certainly makes sense for a little while.
After all, Gabriella has been through quiet a bit. Gabriella should probably seek out some professional help at the moment anyway. However, this is not the exit that Gabs deserves.

Fire Country spoilers suggest that Gabriella Perez (Stephanie Arcila) will be leaving Edgewater after being stalked by Finn (Blake Lee).
Of course, fans aren’t sure about Finn’s fate after being shot by Audra James (Leven Rambin). Finn was bleeding pretty badly as Manny Perez (Kevin Alejandro) rushed him to the paramedics at the assisted living facility. Will Gabi have to leave town to process her ordeal?

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about two-part Season 3 finale of CBS’ Fire Country, “A Change In the Wild” and “I’d Do It Again.”
Exclusive: The Season 3 finale of CBS’ Fire Country on Friday marked the last episode as a series regular for original cast member Stephanie Arcila, who plays firefighter and Emt Gabriela Perez. As Deadline reported based on sources, Arcila is one of two Fire Country Og actors, alongside Billy Burke, who are leaving the hit firefighter drama after three seasons. Only Arcila’s departure has been confirmed.
Gabriela’s stalker story arc was brought to a close in the finale when crazed former love interest Finn (Blake Lee) tracked her down and tried to force her to go with him until he was shot in the chest by Audrey (Leven Rambin), Gabriela’s co-worker and budding love interest of Gabriela’s ex Bode (Max Thieriot). Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the two-part Season 3 finale of CBS’ Fire Country, “A Change In the Wild” and “I’d Do It Again.”
Exclusive: Three seasons in, CBS’ Fire Country is shaking things up. After keeping its original seven-member main cast intact since the pilot — something extremely rare these days — the firefighter drama will head into its fourth season without two of them, sources tell Deadline.
The series had been setting up a possible exit for Jordan Calloway, whose ambitious Station 42 Captain Jake Crawford had given a two-week notice in pursuit of better career opportunities elsewhere. Instead, sources tell Deadline it will be Stephanie Arcila, who plays firefighter, paramedic and Bode Leone’s (Max Thieriot) on- and off- love interest Gabriela Perez, and Billy Burke, who portrays Jake’s boss and Bode’s father, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Vince Leone, who will be leaving the series.

Fire Country spoilers reveal that Gabi Perez’s (Stephanie Arcila) stalker has gotten away with a scalpel even though Vince Leone (Billy Burke) prevented him from hurting Gabi. However, that doesn’t mean that Finn (Blake Lee) won’t try to get to someone else at station 42 to get his hands on Gabi. Will Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) be his unfortunate next victim?
Sharon Leone Is On Antirejection Medication
Sharon would be the ideal candidate because her life would be in danger if she were kidnapped. Sharon had to have a kidney transplant during Season 2 and has to take medication to make sure she doesn’t reject the kidney.
However, Sharon doesn’t likely keep her medication at work. If Finn were to grab her at that station, Sharon could fall ill very easily.
Finn knows that Gabi isn’t about to let someone get hurt in her name. Finn...

Fire Country spoilers reveal that Bode Leone (Max Thierot) wasn’t around when Finn (Blake Lee) jumped out of the ambulance, knocking Vince Leone (Billy Burke) down as he ran off with a scalpel. However, it seems that Bode could be the one who saves Gabriela Perez (Stephanie Arcila) from her stalker. Will Bode and Gabi realize that they belong together?
Gabi Perez Thought Finn Was Safe To Date
Gabi thought that is was safe to date Finn, at least until he began to send her messages about using him for his photos. Gabi then stopped responding to Finn and he took things even further.
Finn set his house on fire to get Gabi to come to his house to rescue him. Now Finn has shown his true colors and has escaped with a scalpel.
Chances are that Finn will try to catch Gabi alone to get his hands on her again.

For the third season's finale, Fire Country has something massive planned. First, the finale is two hours long, airing on CBS on Friday, April 25, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Et. Split into two parts, the finale follows a fire emergency that worsens as the weather deteriorates. "When a fire erupts at a gas station, Bode (Max Thieriot) and Manny (Kevin Alejandro) jump into action to protect the patrons and property," reads the logline for the first part. In the second, the fire shifts across Edgewater and heads to Bode's grandfather's facility. "Extremely high winds and dangerous conditions push the Zebel Ridge fire into Edgewater, threatening Three Rock and Walter’s (Jeff Fahey) care facility," reads the logline for the second part. CBS released a sneak peek of the season finale, previewing the fire's personal turn as it threatens Bode's loved ones.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 3 Episode 18 “Eyes and Ears Everywhere.”] Poor Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila)! Just as it seemed like she found the guy to move on from Bode (Max Thieriot) and their very complicated history with on Fire Country, he turns out to be a stalker. After coming on too strong following their first kiss and text messages that took a turn, in the Friday, April 18, episode, Finn (Blake Lee) set fire to his own house so 42, and therefore Gabriela, would come to his rescue. As she rode with him in the ambulance to the hospital, the others found his basement filled with photos he’d taken while following her. Vince (Billy Burke) came to her rescue, but Blake fled, armed with a scalpel. Elsewhere in the episode, Jake (Jordan Calloway) got a job offer to be a captain in Butte, where he could one day become battalion chief, which isn’t...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 3 Episode 17 “Fire and Ice.”] Don’t go, Jake! Jordan Calloway‘s character is seriously considering his future at Station 42 on Fire Country. We’ve already seen him wondering what his future could hold considering he knows that the “keys to the kingdom,” a.k.a. Vince’s (Billy Burke) job as battalion chief, will one day be his son Bode’s (Max Thieriot), now that he’s free and part of Cal Fire. Vince awkwardly overheard him talking about it with Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) in the previous episode, and all he really did was give him the cliche “I’m not dead yet” line. But Jake’s clearly not happy with how things are going at the firehouse, continuing into Episode 17. Now, Jake finds out that Vince gave the Ok for Gabriela’s new love interest, photographer Finn (Blake Lee), to do a ride-along and take action...

Fire Country Season 3 has romantically taken Bode (Max Thieriot) and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) in different directions. After two seasons of will they/won't they, both characters found new partners as Bode began a relationship with firefighter Audrey James (Leven Rambin). Gabriela also meets photographer Finn (Blake Lee). The lingering question is what happens now. Will they move on with their new love interests, or can they rekindle their relationship? "I think what we saw certainly in the pilot revealed that the two of them have this instant chemistry that’s undeniable and whether they’re together or not, that’s always been present to some extent.," series co-creator Thieriot told TV Insider when asked if they had moved on from each other. He added:

No pun is intended when I say things on Fire Country are heating up.
Between Walter’s dementia, Gabriela’s journey, Bode’s drugs, and now these strange medical illnesses, the series is keeping the drama burning bright.
Since the show came back from its winter break, I have pointed out how the story has evolved from previous seasons.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Fire Country Season 3 Episode 14 felt like the culmination of everything the series has been trying to accomplish with Season 3.
The drama feels more organic and natural. The characters are becoming more layered and less one-dimensional. Best of all, the story has real stakes again rather than the “catastrophe of the week.”
By that, I mean Fire Country is returning to form and bringing back many of the elements that had us hooked during Fire Country Season 1 with arcs that are more plot than character-driven.

Multiple timelines have become unavoidable on TV, but few shows put their time-hopping structure to use quite like the first season of Cruel Summer. Set across three years — 1993, 1994, and 1995 — the Freeform drama followed the interconnected journeys of Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia) and Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt) as it worked to answer one burning question: Did Jeanette know Kate was kidnapped by assistant principal Martin Harris (Blake Lee) and imprisoned in his basement?...

Things get cruel again this summer. Cruel Summer was a breakout hit after it debuted on Freeform in 2021. Season two launches June 5 and with it a new Y2K-centric mystery for a posse of fiery teens. The first season explored events on the same day over the course of three years: 1993, 1994, and 1995. We watched as the series tracked events after the disappearance of popular gal Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt). Vice-principal Martin Harris (Blake Lee) had a hand in that, of course. The ripple effects found socially awkward Jeanette (Chiara Aurelia) blossoming, and even stepping into Kate's groovy social life. Kate resurfaces a year later and accuses Jeanette of witnessing her abduction but not reporting it. We all watched Jeanette’s dreams shatter.
Season two’s new mystery takes on different timelines again, and this time around leaping off some Y2K brouhaha as it follows two teen girls whose lives...

Sadie Stanley, Lexi Underwood, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, and Sean Blakemore star in season two, with Paul Adelstein and Braeden De La Garza appearing in recurring roles.

The Freeform thriller Cruel Summer tells the story of Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia) and Kate Wallis's (Olivia Holt) legal battle, and Annabelle is a major question mark in season 1. While trying to figure out who is Annabelle in Cruel Summer, the show's three timelines come into play. Martin Harris (Blake Lee) kidnaps Kate in 1993, Jeanette becomes popular in 1994, and Kate returns home to Skylin, Texas in 1995. During a camping trip in episode 4 "You Don't Hunt, You Don't Eat," Kate shares a story about Annabelle and realizes she mentioned the name in therapy.
Ultimately, Annabelle becomes the key to figuring out what really happened to Kate. Before the end of season 1 of the Freeform series, there were many theories about who Annabelle is in Cruel Summer. It seemed like Annabelle could be a former partner of Martin's, a baby Kate lost, or someone who helped Martin keep Kate in the basement of his house.

The creator of Cruel Summer is stepping away.
Per Deadline, Bert V. Royal is no longer involved in the young-skewing drama.
Royal is said to have left after the pilot amid disagreements with a Freeform exec.
No details have been revealed beyond that, but it's unclear whether the disagreements were about the show's creative vision.
In the entertainment industry, creative differences are not uncommon.
Cruel Summer is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate's disappearance.
All signs point to Jeanette's guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be?
Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America.
