The limits of faith and temptation are tested in the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Spike Lee's Red Hook Summer. Image Entertainment's One Village label will release the film on both Blu-ray and DVD on December 21, 2012. Red Hook Summer stars Clarke Peters (Endgame, Notting Hill), Nate Parker (The Great Debaters, Arbitrage), Thomas Jefferson Byrd (Ray, He Got Game) and introduces both Jules Brown and Toni Lysaith. The DVD will include a Director's Commentary with Spike Lee, a behind-the-scenes featurette and a music video.
The latest in Spike Lee's Chronicles of Brooklyn (which also include She's Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Crooklyn, Clockers, and He Got Game), Red Hook Summer tells the story of Flik Royale, a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse, in the housing projects of Red Hook.

Spike Lee returns to his roots as both a director and an actor with his latest project Red Hook Summer, which follows the adventures of a young boy uprooted from Atlanta and forced to spend the summer with his grandfather's congregation in Brooklyn. The first poster and a hi-res photo gallery have been released, featuring cast members Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Jules Brown, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, and Clarke Peters. Sadly, we get no evidence of Spike Lee reprising his role as Mr. Mookie, which we'll have to wait and see when the film hits theaters later this summer.

40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks announced today that the company will undertake its first independent distribution effort with founder Spike Lee's Brooklyn coming-of-age story, Red Hook Summer. 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks will partner with New York-based Variance Films for the theatrical release, which will begin August 10, 2012 in New York City theaters, expanding to the top 30 markets throughout the month of August.
"From my very first joint back in 1986, She's Gotta Have It, I have been an independent filmmaker, and even today I still am," said Spike Lee. "I'm elated to join forces with Variance Films for the independent distribution of my new joint Red Hook Summer. We look forward to getting this film into the marketplace, where we believe 100 percent that there is a starving audience for American independent films like Red Hook Summer."

Oldboy is still on the horizon, but Spike Lee will be making his return to narrative filmmaking a little earlier, with next year’s Red Hook Summer. Many got excited when it was revealed that the movie would have the writer and director reprising the role of Mookie from what’s arguably his greatest work, Do the Right Thing. Although he seemingly isn’t the main character — the story reportedly centers on “a adult from Atlanta who comes and spends the summer in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY” — going back to his magnum opus is an interesting idea on its own. But, other than the fact that it opens next summer, we know very little at the moment.
BlackFilm has managed to uncover some casting information on the project; the lineup includes Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Turron Kofi Alleyne, Samantha Ivers, Limary Agosto, Heather Simms, and Kalon Jackson. Peters,...

Spike Lee has used Twitter to announce that his most recent and secretive project, "Red Hook Summer", is scheduled to hit next Summer.
The film was shot over a few weeks back in July & August and all that's really known is that Lee will reprise the role of Mookie which he played in "Do The Right Thing", and the film itself follows a guy who spends his summer in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn.
Turron Kofi Alleyne, Samantha Ivers, Limary Agosto, Heather Simms, Kalon Jackson, Nate Parker and Clarke Peters star in the project.

Director Spike Lee is currently hard at work shooting his next film Red Hook Summer, and now it looks like the pic has a tentative release date. Details on the exact nature of the film are scarce, as we only know that it centers on an adult from New York who spends the summer in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, and Lee will be reprising his role as Mookie from his pivotal 1989 flick Do The Right Thing. Earlier today, Lee took to his Twitter and posted an image of him standing next to a garage door that looks like a mock-up of an early poster for the film with the tagline “Burning Up Da Summer 2012!” So, straight from the horse’s mouth, it seems like we’ll be getting a new Spike Lee Joint next summer. Aside from Lee’s role, the purported cast list includes Turron Kofi Alleyne,...
