In this edition we’re taking a look at two very different films. The first is a spoof of the ever-popular zombie genre and the second is the latest documentary from Eurocrime! director Mike Malloy.

If you’d like us to consider your project to feature in a future edition of Back This!, make sure to drop us a line.

Walking With the Dead

From the same guys who brought you Supernatural Activity comes a zombie comedy that takes a poke at modern-era zombie pop culture and any and every genre convention, parodying the best and worst zombie movies and TV shows. Looking for a hefty $50,000, the Walking With the Dead kickstarter...

Supernatural Activity – DVD Review
Damon Dealer (Andrew Pozza) heads up a TV show, Supernatural Activity, that sets out to debunk hoaxes and fraudsters. Summoned with his crew to Hicksville, Texas to investigate the local Smallsquatch (the offspring of Bigfoot and local witch), Dealer and his crew (variously vain, stupid and religiously fervent) get caught up in seances, exorcisms and things that go bump in the night.

*****

It goes without saying that Paranormal Activity, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and so forth are ripe for spoofing, but crikey. This is ghastly, stupid, incoherent film-making of the worst kind. There is a film crew following Dealer’s crew, for reasons that might have been explained but probably not very well, half way through the film changes from spoofing Paranormal Activity to spoofing The Exorcism of Emily Rose (but she’s called Emily Sunflower this time – see what they did there!), presumably because they ran out of...

DVD Review: Supernatural Activity
Supernatural Activity

Stars: Andrew Pozza, Liddy Bisanz, Joey Oglesby, Donny Boaz, Devin Bonnée, Philip Marlatt, Tim Ogletree, Liz Waters, Conley Michelle Wehner | Written by Andrew Pozza | Directed by Derek Lee Nixon

Parodies on horror can be hard to get right, as witnessed by Scary Movie. Personally I thought Scary Movie was quite good, it took Scream as the main focus and actually got a few laughs out of it, and then Scary Movie 2 came along which in a diluted form did the same but with the haunted house setting as the focus of the comedy. After that and after the Wayans brothers left the series it went downhill fast, even though the inclusion of Lesley Nielsen did save it to some extent. Now that we know that Scary Movie 5 is on its way I’m sure that most of us groaned at the thought of that dead dog being kicked once more.
