France’s National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (Pnf) has requested the country’s cultural minister Rachida Dati stand trial for long-standing charges of conflict of interest and corruption.
The prosecutor, who announced the decision on Friday (November 15), also recommended that former president of Renault-Nissan Carlos Ghosn face a criminal court for the case following its probe.
Dati is accused of having received €900,000 between 2010 and 2012 from a subsidiary of the French-Japanese Renault-Nissan alliance when it was under Ghosn’s leadership and hired Dati as a consultant after she stepped down as justice minister to stand for the European Parliament.

The fundamental thing about documentary filmmaking is telling a story in a manner that is exciting enough to grab the attention of the audience. Otherwise, why would you watch something about which you can find basically everything on the internet itself? Apple TV’s latest documentary series about former Nissan and Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, titled Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn, follows this fundamental thing to a tee. Netflix today provided a taste of its slate of original French productions coming up in 2022, which includes 25 new titles for launch this year and 20 projects currently in production. The slate, selected and developed by the Netflix France creative team, reps a total investment of more than 200M euros ($221M) across 2022. The streamer recently signed a deal with the French industry in which it committed to producing at least 10 local films per year, investing about 40M euros ($45M).
Among the projects highlighted during a presentation in Paris today was Romain Gavras’ formerly untitled feature, which is now called Athena. An immersive and modern tragedy, it stars Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Anthony Bajon and is co-written with Oscar nominee Ladj Ly (Les Misérables) and Elias Belkeddar. Australian-Lebanese journalist and filmmaker Daizy Gedeon is en route to Cannes where she will receive a prize Monday night at the Better World Fund gala. Her latest film, “Enough — Lebanon’s Darkest Hour,” is an expose of how the country has fallen into chaos.
The darkest hour that she refers to is neither the 2020 port explosion, nor the bizarre flight of fugitive auto industry executive Carlos Ghosn. Rather it is the country’s descent over the past several years into a state of turmoil caused by the state’s capture by selfish elites.
“Before the explosion, the country was already cowering under the weight of decades of civil conflict, unrelenting regional turmoil but mostly from endemic, systemic corruption and pure greed,” says Gedeon. “Lebanon has become an allegory for kleptocratic regimes that have seen a resurgence across the globe, and their catastrophic impact.”
Gedeon has been based in Australia since 1987 and manages media company Gdr.

Federation Entertainment is developing “Carlos Ghosn, The Fugitive,” a thriller mini-series starring Francois Cluzet as Ghosn, once one of the most powerful figures in the global car industry who is now an international fugitive.
“Carlos Ghosn, The Fugitive” will be directed by Frederic Jardin, whose credits include the hit crime series “Spiral” and “Braquo,” as well as the thriller “Nuit Blanche.”

UK documentary festival Sheffield Doc/Fest (June 4-13) will open with the European premiere of Questlove’s acclaimed Summer Of Soul, which scooped the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance this year. The doc chronicles the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival and will be released by Searchlight Pictures and Hulu this summer (in cinemas and on Disney+ Star in the UK).
The festival will close with The Story of Looking, the latest documentary from prolific filmmaker Mark Cousins. Exclusive: The elaborate escape of former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn as he awaited trial on charges of financial misconduct in Japan made international headlines earlier this year. Now the alleged architect of that escape, private security operative Michael Taylor, is the subject of a feature-length film and television series, developed in tandem by Sam Rockwell, writer Davey Holmes, Vanity Fair Studios and MGM/UA TV where the Rockwell’s production banner Play Hooky has a first-look deal.

After churning out several successful Arabic originals, Dubai-based Mbc Studios is entering the international TV dramas arena with a high-end English-language doc and series about Carlos Ghosn, the French-Lebanese-Brazilian former CEO of automakers Nissan and Renault, who jumped bail and absconded to Beirut while on trial in Japan for alleged financial misconduct.

The longer answer would include the oil companies that stood to lose over time the greatest resource-monopoly in history; the deadwood managers at Detroit's Big Three, whose inability to think forward even in the medium-term left American suburbs and freeways choked with Escalades and Hummers that chugged gasoline to the tune of 10 miles to the gallon; and a consumer mindset that wasn't yet ready for the idea. The movie ended with the recall by Gm of all the vehicles, whose leasees had come to love them. All the cars were crushed.

The first was a look at the Ev-1, a battery-powered car that General Motors designed, built, and test-marketed. It's safe to say that film maker Chris Paine was the scourge of General Motors not so long ago.
His 2006 documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car? accused the auto industry and oil companies of ganging up to destroy the first generation of mass-produced plug-in vehicles – Gm's EV1. After losing $1bn on an electric car leasing scheme, the company repossessed all 5,000 of the cars, sending them to the crusher.
Five years later, however, there are more than 15,000 electric cars on American roads and the plug-in Chevy Volt is the engine behind Gm's recovery.
Paine documents the return from the dead of the plug-in in a new film, Revenge of the Electric Car.
Paine said in a telephone interview:
