Netflix adding 14 new movies and shows this week
Image
Listen, just because there isn't some long-awaited fan favorite original Netflix series popping up with a new season, it doesn't mean that there's nothing worth watching this week. I'd say several great shows are coming to your favorite streamer.

We'll get a documentary series about cheerleaders for a team that a lot of people hate. And a documentary about a mayor that a lot of people hated. Thankfully, that balances out with a huge show that many people loved, making its Netflix debut.

I'll be honest; I've never seen a single episode of that show. But I do have about 37 friends who swear it's the best thing ever. We'll get to that soon enough. For now, we've got plenty to talk about. We've got witch hunters - well, one, anyway. We also have demon hunters, just to make sure they didn't feel left out. Add magical standup, weird food, and family drama,...

With the project heading into post-production, the first batch of images have been revealed, along with the news that Tokio Hotel lead singer Bill Kaulitz makes his film debut in the slasher movie.

Directed by Marcel Walz from a screenplay by Joe Knetter, Brute 1986 tells the story of Leather Kobra, a sunset strip style glam metal band is...

Tokio Hotel Singer Bill Kaulitz Lands Film Debut In Marcel Walz’s Indie Horror ‘Brute 1986’
Image
Exclusive: Bill Kaulitz has swapped the concert stage for the big screen by landing his first film role.

The Tokio Hotel frontman, whose band is among Germany’s most successful music acts, has landed a role in Brute 1986, an indie pic inspired by 1980s slasher movies.

In the film, Leather Kobra, a Sunset Strip-style glam metal band films a music video in an abandoned Western town in the middle of nowhere. Ignoring ‘no trespassing’ signs, the rebellious group have no idea they are being watched by the Birdy family, who will meet them with a “level of brutality that is as vicious as it is creative,” according to producers.

Starring alongside Kaulitz are Gigi Gustin (Stiletto), Sarah French (Blind), Pancho Moler (3 From Hell), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Heather Grace Hancock (Wicked City) and Dazelle Yvette (Garden of Eden).

Joe Knetter (Twilight of the Dead) is the writer, with...

Kaulitz & Kaulitz Review: Peeling Back the Pop Star Personas
Image
For over two decades, German twins Tom and Bill Kaulitz have entranced fans worldwide with their music. As the frontmen of platinum-selling rock band Tokio Hotel, the brothers shot to stardom from a young age with anthemic pop songs blending English and their native tongue. While beloved in Europe, the duo sought greater anonymity after constant paparazzi hounded their private lives. Moving to Los Angeles seemed like the perfect solution.

Now, the Netflix reality series Kaulitz & Kaulitz takes viewers behind the velvet rope for an exclusive look into Tom and Bill’s world. Born just minutes apart, the twins share an intense bond despite polar opposite personalities. Creative risk-taker Bill basks in the spotlight yet yearns for intimacy, while introverted Tom finds solace in family life with supermodel Heidi Klum. Flashing boobs and Power Ranger activation: An interview with Tokio Hotel
Whenever Tokio Hotel gets ready to play a concert, they gather backstage, circle up, put their hands in the center and give a hearty Power Ranger "Activation!" If Tokio Hotel is to believed, this is the truth. We learned that fun nugget and more from our recent HitFix Mix interview, where the four-piece German pop-rock troupe revealed a little more about what makes them nervous and more of their... motivations. When you flash your boobs at Georg Listing and Tom Kaulitz, for instance, the bassist and guitarist will respectively be almost 100% sure you're flashing at them. Singer Bill Kaulitz revealed that the band is especially "lazy" in the studio, while Gustav Schäfer admitted that smoking is perhaps one of their most treasured time-killers. The band last released their album "Kings of Suburbia" and have been promoting singles "Love Who Loves You Back" and "Feel It All"; the music video for...

Dance music group enlisted collaborators from Justin Bieber to Tyga for their June 12 album release.

Far East Movement

The guys of Far East Movement wanted to shake things up a bit for their new album, Dirty Bass, in order to get you shaking in the club.

They not only wanted to make beats that would get people dancing even dirtier when they hit the dance floor, giving the album its title, they also wanted to get people to scratch their heads when they heard just who they had enlisted for the release, out this week.

Far East Movement recruited some unexpected A-listers for Dirty Bass, ranging from pop titans like Justin Bieber and Tokio Hotel's Bill Kaulitz to urban music's own prince and princess, Tyga and Cassie.

"A lot of it's people that we're fans of," Kev Nish told MTV News. "For the first album,...

Far East Movement Drop 'Unexpected' Track With Tokio Hotel's Bill Kaulitz
'If I Die Tomorrow,' off FM's May 22 release, Dirty Bass, is 'a song about losing yourself.'

By Jocelyn Vena

Far East Movement

Photo: MTV News

Ever wondered what it would sound like if the Far East Movement enlisted Tokio Hotel's glammy, gothy lead singer Bill Kaulitz for a track? Well, wonder no more, because now we have "If I Die Tomorrow."

The collaboration, which dropped Friday (May 18), leans more on FM's love for partying than Kaulitz's love for rocking. While FM rap all about bumping trunks, killing bottles and going crazy in the club, Kaulitz, in full auto-tuned, falsetto mode, proclaims, "If I die tomorrow, that means we had the night of our lives/ If tomorrow never comes, then tonight we lose control."

"If I Die Tomorrow" is off FM's new album, Dirty Bass, out May 22. When MTV News caught up with Far East Movement recently, Kev...

After three weeks, nearly 20 million votes and just as many accusations of cheating from various fanbases, it's come down to this: Green Day and Tokio Hotel (who somehow survived the vast international conspiracy their supporters so adamantly insist exists) will meet for the 2012 MTV Musical March Madness championship.

And much like the actual Ncaa final — which sees Kentucky going up against Kansas in a battle of two storied programs — the Mmm championship is also fraught with historical implications: Green Day aim to become the first band to repeat as champs, while Tokio Hotel look to finally take home the title that has so far eluded them.

Tokio Hotel Join PETA to Boycott Animal Circuses
German rockers Tokio Hotel have joined a campaign to ban animal circuses from their native Germany. Bandmate brothers Bill Kaulitz and Tom Kaulitz appear chained to a column in a filthy cage in hard-hitting new billboards for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals as part of an animal rights campaign to highlight the miserable lives circus creatures endure.

As a result of the campaign and other efforts to keep circuses out of Germany, officials at the nation's Federal Chamber of Veterinarians have called for a ban on the use of wild animals in traveling circuses.

Back in 2008, the two rockers have expressed their complaint over T-Pain's entrance at the MTV Video Music Award, which involved circus performers. Bill commented, "It was sheer cruelty - it was that." His brother Tom chimed in, "I hate zoos and circuses. People shouldn't take their children to either one."...

Tokio Hotel Thank Fans For 'Incredible' Musical March Madness Support
Voting in band's second-round matchup against Adele is now live on the Newsroom blog.

By James Montgomery

In 2010, MTV News threw Tokio Hotel into our inaugural Musical March Madness tournament almost as an afterthought, sticking them with a #16 seed and putting them up against #1 Coldplay with the assumption that they'd probably lose.

Only they didn't.

In fact, thanks to the undying support of their fanbase, Tokio Hotel crushed Coldplay, and began a remarkable two-week run that saw them knock off heavily favored bands like Radiohead, Vampire Weekend and Owl City before losing to eventual champions Coheed and Cambria in a controversial Final Four matchup.

In short, we grossly underestimated Th, so when it came time to unveil our 2011 Mmm bracket, we made sure that they made the cut ... this time as a #14 seed (when will the selection...

Happy Birthday, Bill Kaulitz!
Raise a glass to Tokio Hotel frontman Bill Kaulitz, who turns 21 years old today. The German singer and fashion icon is already something of an industry veteran, performing with his twin brother Tom since he was 10 years old. They plugged away quietly as Black Question Mark until they met Georg Listing and Gustav Schafer, who filled out their band and turned them into Devilish. The young band continued to play shows and attempt to get discovered until Bill performed on the German version of "Star Search" in 2003. He didn't win (he was eliminated in the quarter-finals), but his one-of-a-kind voice and unique sense of style scored his band a recording contract. They changed their name (again) to Tokio Hotel, and the rest is history.

Tokio Hotel were instant sensations in their native Germany, melding together pieces of punk, metal, glam and dance music for a new, vibrant stew. Their first...

"And I have to write the lyrics in two languages, so that’s really a lot of work," added Bill. "So we’re not really sure about that,...

MTV's Musical March Madness Final Four Preview: Tokio Hotel
With a rabid fanbase on their sides, Th seem to be a lock for the championship game.

Who: The improbable champions of the East region in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament, Tokio Hotel are the lowest-seeded band left standing in the tournament, and, to be quite honest, they almost didn't make it at all. Yet they continued to knock off higher-seeded bands, and with each victory, they slowly emerged as a squad to be reckoned with. A straight finesse team, Th rely mainly (some would say exclusively) on the outside shot — rangy point guard Bill Kaulitz has a deft jumper — and when the 3's are falling, they're as tough to beat as anybody. Though they may be small inside (Gustav Schafer does not clean up on the boards), they have speed, agility and a precision-guided long-range game on their sides.

Plenty of people make a big deal out of the fashion choices of Lady Gaga, Ke$ha and Adam Lambert, but Bill Kaulitz's forward-thinking approach to rock and roll clothes is just as progressive. His outfit in Hamburg was especially fascinating,...

Winners of 2010 Nrj Music Awards, Bep Mistakenly Announced as Best Group
The 11th Annual Nrj Music Awards has been held on Saturday night, January 23 in Cannes, France with Kelly Rowland, Dita Von Teese and Pharrell Williams in attendance. During the announcement of International Group/Duo of the Year winner, singer Ke$ha and French choreographer Kamel Ouali mistakenly said that Black Eyed Peas got the prize.

Before the group went onto the stage and were handed the award, Kamel apologized, telling the crowd who booed him and Ke$ha that the winner and the nominees were all put on the card and he had read the wrong name. They then revealed that it were Tokio Hotel who got the trophy.

Losing the International Group/Duo of the Year title to the Bill Kaulitz-fronted band, the Hip-Hop group consisting of will.i.am, Stacy Ferguson, Taboo and apl.de.ap still managed to walk away with one gong and avoided any further embarrassment.

"World Behind My Wall" is taken from Tokio Hotel's second English studio album "Humanoid". The track was showcased live on TV for the first time at 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 5.

Back in September, Bill Kaulitz told Rolling Stone that the song projects the softer side of "Humanoid". The vocalist explained, "Sometimes you have the feeling that there are so many beautiful things out there that you can not see for whatever reason. It takes courage to break down the walls that keep you away from really living your life."

Tokio Hotel Get Epic With MTV Europe Music Awards Performance
Band pays tribute to Berlin Wall's fall during hometown performance.

By James Montgomery

Tokio Hotel's Tom Kaulitz and Bill Kaulitz perform at the European Music Awards on Thursday

Tokio Hotel's Bill and Tom Kaulitz were just 2 months old when the Berlin Wall, which for decades had separated Germany into two separate political states, came tumbling down. Twenty years later, in the same city, they decided to pay tribute to that momentous event with their performance at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards on Thursday (November 5).

Taking the stage silhouetted only by four spotlights, as their hometown fans screamed with delight, Tokio Hotel began the somber buildup of "World Behind My Wall," a track from their just-released Humanoid album. Backed by a video display that showed the symbolic dissolving of a brick wall, frontman Bill Kaulitz — wearing dark wraparound shades and a tight black leather jacket — sang the opening refrains,...

If silver rocked the Vma red carpet, then black definitely ruled the MTV Europe Music Awards red carpet on Thursday (November 5). A galaxy of stars rocked the red carpet of the show, which was held in Berlin to honor the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The night's host, Katy Perry, may have donned a white gown on the red carpet, but it was the lacy black detailing that gave it that vintage Perry charm. Green Day went more formal than punk for the red carpet in their slim-fit suits, all of which were in shades of black or dark gray.

Pete Wentz also wore a black suit to the show, and he embellished his with a newsboy cap.

Everyone knows that Hollywood is addicted to franchises, sequels, reboots and all manner of cinematic rehashings of the pop-culture past. Over 75 percent of the 30 highest-grossing films of the last three years were based on an existing entertainment franchise, which just goes to show there's a reason studios keep reimagining movie history instead of creating something new: audiences love them too.

But do actors? With Halloween almost upon us, we wanted to know if the folks out in La-La Land secretly had a horror flick they're dying to remake.

Tom Hanks' fave picks — "Night of the Living Dead" and " Nosferatu" — have already been refashioned in one form or another, so the Oscar-winner...
