Transformers One Director Josh Cooley Reveals Paramount Isn't Moving Forward With A Sequel
Image
Although Transformers One received mostly positive reviews from both fans and critics, it looks like the animated reboot won’t be rolling out a sequel.

Paramount has reportedly scrapped plans for the intended trilogy, reflecting ongoing challenges the studio faces in breathing new life into a franchise that was once a box office juggernaut.

The disappointing update came directly from director Josh Cooley during an 8 Pm panel at Bot Con ’25, held on Saturday in Wayne, Indiana.

January 17 Will Be an Amazing Day for Transformers Fans
Image
Transformers remains a popular series, with the franchise having had several theatrical movies in the past decade. While the last of these wasn't the hit it was expected to be, it's "continuing" by way of an unexpected spinoff.

A new series of stop-motion videos for Transformers One will be released on YouTube, with these featuring the toys from the film's accompanying toyline. Added to the official YouTube channel for the brand, the bi-weekly series is meant to mash humor and action in a way that appeals to Pov and streaming content fans. Now about to drop its first episode, the series may be the closest thing that fans of the animated movie get to a sequel.

Transformers and Football Collide in Official Bumblebee Collaboration
Image
The Transformers franchise is no stranger to weird and unexpected crossovers, especially when it comes to movie tie-ins. Now, the series is given a particularly athletic one that promotes the franchise's latest movie -- months after it was released.

The German soccer team Borussia Dortmund is now collaborating with the Transformers brand -- specifically, the animated movie Transformers One. As part of the team, a familiar yellow Autobot shows off his soccer skills in a new promotional video. The choice of Transformer also matches the sport club's aesthetic, meaning that there's more than meets the eye to this mashup besides a strangely-timed alliance.

Quick Links Cybertron Falls Is a Darker Look at the Transformers Franchise This Transformers Fan Film Is Filled With Surprises

Released in September by Paramount Pictures and combining a colorful, swift animation by Ilm with a star-studded cast, the latest entry in the Transformers series quickly became a critical success. Not only was Transformers One primarily set on Cybertron (which is a feat in itself compared to all the live-action movies), but the CGI-animated film took a look into the otherwise early and unexplored relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron (once known as Orion Pax and D-16).

With all the praise that director Josh Cooleys latest film has received, which included being certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes and having a verified hot popcorn score, the Autobots and Decepticons origin story underperformed at the box office and didnt even meet its budget (in US markets). Any hope for the trilogy...

Transformers One's Josh Cooley Addresses His Thoughts on Sequels
Image
Josh Cooley has Cyberton-sized ambitions for Transformers One sequels, as the director of the new animated adventure claims that theres definitely more story to tell. The visionary filmmakers' latest project wipes the slate clean for the Autobots and the Decepticons as these latest iterations of Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and the evil Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) not only reboot the franchise in their latest big-screen adventure, but their film also opens the door for numerous follow-ups. Cooley explained in an interview with The Wrap:

Theres definitely more story to tell. Were used to seeing the story begin once the planets dying and they leave for Earth, so theres a whole war that happens once they break apart and once they leave the planet. So, theres a lot more story to tell there, and it could be really fun.

Transformers One: Keegan-Michael Key Delves Into Giving Bumblebee a Voice
Image
Keegan-Michael Key touched upon giving Bumblebee a voice in Transformers One. Prior to this, Transformers One director Josh Cooley threw shade at a brutal review from Mark Kennedy of the Associated Press.

Key brought this subject up in an interview with Collider, professing that he was "chomping at the bit," because "there's no rules." He went on to further note, "Nobody can tell us what to do! This is the origin story. So it was so exciting and fun that Josh Cooley, the director and I, we just got to kind of build this together however we wanted to do it. And, and of course, you know, there's guidelines given the script and the story and the journey of his, of his life and how it, you know how it escalates and ebbs and flows. But I was just ready to tear into the steak of this role of what it was gonna be,...

Transformers One's Violence Addressed By Director
Image
Had one serious note not been shown to Transformers One director Josh Cooley, the movie would have been far more violent. A prequel to the entire Transformers franchise, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth (Optimus Prime), Brian Tyree Henry (Megatron), Scarlett Johansson (Elita-1), and Keegan-Michael Key (Bumblebee). It explores the roots of the conflict that would someday consume Cybertron and lead to the birth of the Decepticons.

In an interview with Variety, Cooley explained that he envisioned a much darker movie. He planned to show the violence and its consequences in depth, but he elected to pull back and shroud some of the more serious elements after receiving feedback to tone it down. Cooley believes that it resulted in a Jaws-like effect that made the retained violence more compelling. Check out his full quote below:

Well, if there was any conversation at all, it was more about how things were presented on screen.

Transformers One Director Confirms Movie Is a Reboot Not a Prequel
Image
Transformers One director Josh Cooley clarified the movie's place within the Transformers cinematic timeline. The computer-animated movie explores the origin of Optimus Prime and Megatron, showing how they went from lowly worker bots and best friends to being rivals leading warring factions in a civil war. Transformers One is the ninth Transformers film and the eighth released by Paramount Pictures. Despite the film's distinct visual style, many producers were selling that the film was a prequel to the live-action movies taking place three billion years before the live-action feature films.

While speaking with Variety, director Josh Cooley clarified the film's place in the Transformers timeline. He said the movie is a reboot, one with its own continuity separate from the prior films or animated series, which allowed them to forge their own story, determining characters would be in it that best served the story. He details how the film's decision...

Transformers One's 2 Main Differences From Michael Bay's Movies Detailed By Director
Image
Transformers One director Josh Cooley explains two significant ways the animated prequel is different from Michael Bay's live-action Transformers movies. The latest installment serves as an origin story for Optimus Prime, Megatron, and the beginning of the ancient conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. Transformers One's ending sets up a new direction for the franchise to take, as the fates of Cybertron and the Transformers are forever changed.

While speaking with Variety, Cooley emphasized how Transformers One's setting and the characters' fighting styles are the two biggest differences from Bay's movies. Check out Cooley's comments below:

Well, the fact that this is animated already makes it very different. And also being that Transformers One takes place on another planet, we can have different looks immediately. So being able to push the look of it, and also not having to, as with the live-action ones, to have everything look like its 100% there,...

What the Transformers One Post Credit Scenes Reveal About the Next Movies
Image
This article contains spoilers for Transformers One

Transformers One has arrived in theaters and has already been called the best Transformers movie by many. The animated film tells how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from best friends to arch enemies. The film brings the franchise back to its animated roots by being a fun celebration for older fans on the franchise's 40th anniversary while also acting as a new entry point for a younger generation of fans. The film looks to be a big hit with families over the coming weeks, leading into the holiday season.

Like many big-budget franchise IP films, Transformers One leaves the door open for sequels. This is typically done with after-credits scenes, and Transformers One is no exception. Transformers One has not one but two after-credits scenes, so if you plan to see it, you will want to stick around until the very end. Here...

Transformers One Cast & Character Guide: What The Actors Look Like In Real Life
Image
The animated movie, Transformers One, boasts a high-profile cast and includes a number of MCU stars. Set on the planet of Cybertron instead of Earth, Transformers One aims to explore the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The story of Transformers One will mainly cover the early years of Autobots and Decepticons on their home planet and how their respective leaders turned from allies to enemies. With an origin story reminiscent of Netflixs War For Cybertron trilogy and with no human characters involved in this animated adventure, Transformers One aims to be a unique Transformers movie.

Helmed by Toy Story 4 writer Josh Cooley, Transformers One offers a lot of promise - especially the cast list. Although none of the cast members from the original Generation-1 animated series and the live-action Transformers movies return, the voice cast still includes a talented bunch of actors (including some MCU stars and Academy Award...
