It’s quiet for specialty openings after the holidays, in the thick of awards season. But one film needed this weekend — Abramorama documentary A Storm Foretold by Danish director Christoffer Guldbrandsen about the Maga movement and the Jan. 6 insurrection. The filmmaker captured footage over years of on-and-off access to Roger Stone.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights to Katie Burrell’s feature debut Weak Layers.

The film is directed and co-written by Burrell (who also stars), and Andrew Ladd, also stars Chelsea Conwright and Jadyn Wong. Weak Layers will arrive in theaters in top 50 markets and in select mountain towns on January 5, and on VOD on February 6, 2024.

The three women star as evicted roommates who enter a ski-movie contest to resolve their living situation. Set in Lake Tahoe, these three passionate and lovably rowdy local women go on a quest to win a world-famous 72-hour short ski film competition. A progressive throwback to the cult classics, the film dissects modern, male-driven ski culture while championing the tight-knit local communities found in ski towns throughout the world.

“I love anything that upends a trope and this movie is full of the kind of teasing satire that satisfies the rebel in me.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, they go and make a syrupy sci-fi melodrama about two guys using time travel to fight over a woman. Jumping into the unfortunately growing slate of sci-fi romances, “Needle in a Timestack” is not an ounce as charming as “About Time” and far more self-serious than the equally bizarre but mildly humorous “Timer.” What it does have is a universe with its own rules, one in which everyone is in constant fear of waves known as “time-shifts,” a side effect of time travel, which it calls “jaunting.” Though the movie is The title alone has already inspired titters online, and the movie is just as clunky and overwrought.

Broken into chapters corresponding to different romantic configurations as they appear and disappear in the timeline, the movie opens with Nick (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Janine (Cynthia Erivo) in utterly boring wedded bliss.

Jadyn Wong has been added John Ridley’s next feature Needle In A Timestack, which follows a couple who work to hold their marriage together in a world where time travel is possible, and the past and present are ever fluctuating. The film stars Leslie Odom Jr., Cynthia Erivo, Freida Pinto, and Orlando Bloom. Ridley is directing the pic, which he adapted from a short story by Robert Silverberg. Zanne Devine, David Thwaites, and Bron’S Aaron L. Gilbert are producing along with Matt Kennedy. Exec producers are Jason Cloth of Creative Wealth Media, Christopher J. The network has pulled the plug on the procedural drama after four seasons. 

It focused on a group of geniuses who are seen as the last line of defense around the world, and put their extensive skills to the test as they try to keep the world safe. 

If you watched Scorpion online, you will know that the team found themselves in a variety of situations that took them across the globe. 

It starred Elyes Gabel, Katharine McPhee, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong, Ari Stidham, Robert Patrick, and Riley B. Smith.

If you keep up to speed with the ratings, you will know that Scorpion Season 4 continued to bleed in both viewers and in the all-important 18-49 demographic. 

Season 4 averaged 5.3 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. It ranked 22nd out of 27 scripted series on CBS.

CBS has made the call on Monday drama Scorpion, opting not to renew the high-octane drama for a fifth season.

After a high-flying start as a breakout hit when it first launched in the Monday 9 Pm slot, Scorpion found itself heavily on the bubble for return for the second year in a row. It has struggled in the Monday 10 Pm time period, and is one of the least watched CBS scripted series currently on the air in Live+same day.

CBS had been expected to do some major cleanup on Mondays where it’s seen its ratings fortunes falter. Scorpion is the first official cancellation on the night, it likely won’t be the last.

Remaining on the bubble are two other CBS drama series, Code Black and Elementary. It is unclear whether the network will impose formal cancellation on Wisdom of the Crowd which is presumed dead.

Walter and Ralph being partners is everything I've ever wanted.

On Scorpion Season 3 Episode 7, it's bring your son to work day! I'm sorry, I'm still not over that moment. In all seriousness, Walter and Ralph were great partners.

Walter being benched was a fun way to mix things up, and it was even better that the focus wasn't on how the team was doing without him. Instead, it was all about Walter desperately trying to be a part of the mission.

Sure, Walter claimed it was because his team needed him, but it also seemed like Walter just hated being left out. Team Scorpion was doing just fine without Walter, but Walter was going crazy without them. 

Now, I'm usually commenting on how I wish that Ralph would get more scenes with (insert Team Scorpion member here). I love seeing Ralph's relationship with everyone. It's usually delightful, and Ralph always makes an episode more entertaining.

Scorpion is ready for takeoff — quite literally — in Season 3.

Glenn Keogh, an Irish actor who has landed roles on some of the biggest shows in television in the last couple of years, now appears on CBS’s promising new drama Scorpion.

In Scorpion, Keogh plays the father of central character Walter O’Brien, a bona fide genius that assembles a team to help the government fight global terrorist organizations. As Keogh explained exclusively to uInterview, “[Scorpion] is based on the true story about a gentleman called Walter O'Brien - who is an Irish guy, a genius - and he is hired by the U.S. government as one part of a crack team.”

Keogh added, "He's got a group of guys who are all geniuses also, and it just follows his journeys on a week-to-week basis. They've solved problems that the existing administration could not."

CBS premiered the pilot episode of their newest procedural, Scorpion, at Comic-Con on Thursday, and it might be worth checking out. I haven’t quite decided yet. Let’s go through the pros and cons together.

The show follows the usual structure of a CBS procedural — a group of specialized people are working against the clock to solve a problem that they are uniquely qualified to solve. [In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "Scorpion" (CBS) The Pitch: "It's 'The Big Bang Theory' only they solve problems and Kat McPhee is Penny." Quick Response: The pilot for "Scorpion" is pretty goofy and, for a show about geniuses, mighty stoooooopid, but it's not unamusing, so I can't ignore that "The Big Bang Theory" is one of the 10 worst pilots I've ever seen, but it eventually became a reasonably decent series. It's just hard to introduce smart characters and do it in a way that doesn't come across as over-reliant on big-brain stereotypes and "Scorpion" most certainly doesn't avoid that trap. You could almost say that creator Nick Santora doesn't care. The pilot is about showing how this core group of geniuses could be used to help Homeland Security (represented here by the reliable Robert Patrick) solve a variety of problems on a weekly basis. It isn't about generating human characteristics or human characters for the core group.

To fill the void left by the departure of "Numbers" a few years ago, CBS is back with another drama about eccentric geniuses helping the government solve crimes -- except "Scorpion" is inspired by a true story.  Walter O'Brien ("Game of Thrones's" Elyes Gabel) leads a think tank of young braniacs trying to make the world a better place. But when Lax's mainframe is mysteriously hacked and 56 airborne flights are in danger of crashing like in "Die Hard II: Die Harder," O'Brien and his crew are recruited by a no-nonsense Homeland Security agent ("Die Hard II: Die Harder's" Robert Patrick) to help.
