Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken’s sci-fi series on NBC, La Brea, ended after a three-season run in 2024. The series begins when a massive sinkhole opens at the La Brea Tar Pits in LA and pulls people, vehicles, and buildings into a time portal. The main characters end up in a location in 10,000 BC. The survivors’ search for a way back forms the plot of the three seasons.
There was no way the network could’ve pushed for more seasons, albeit a fourth season, after the challenges faced during the production of Season 3. The third season was much shorter than the first two seasons, with just six episodes as opposed to the 10 and 14 episodes of Seasons 1 and 2.

We know not all shows will make it through a year, but that doesn’t mean we have to be happy about cancellations. NBC opted to cancel four shows in 2024, and another one is on the move to a streaming platform. Let’s take a look back at what we won’t watch in 2025.
The 2023–2024 TV season was certainly an odd one. With the writers strike and then the actors strike throughout the summer and fall of 2023, it made it much harder to get our favorite shows back. Most of them were held for the midseason, but others were able to get fall slots.
You would think that the fall slots would allow for a success. Sadly, that wasn’t the case for one series in particular. Meanwhile, another was canceled even before the strike action started, but didn’t officially end until 2024.

Setting hearts aflutter everywhere, When Calls the Heart returns earlier than usual on January 5 at 9/8c.
In the spirit of the new year, When Calls the Heart Season 12 brings blossoming romances, new characters, and more mysteries as the series enters the roaring 1920s.
Many of the teasers that the Hallmark Channel has shared feature Elizabeth and Nathan. They must survive the cliffhanger of Superintendent Hargraves announcing he had new information about Jack’s death.
( Ricardo Hubbs/Hallmark Media)
The new photos tease Nathan and Elizabeth, enjoying some private time.
While the showrunners and the actors suggested the couple would remain strong throughout the reveal, what was the point of it without any rippled effects?
While that conflict seemed contrived, not seeing any aftermath is just as anti-climatic. Many viewers prefer to see relationships evolve naturally and emotionally.

I’ve watched many Hallmark holiday films, and Hanukkah on the Rocks stood out as one of the best. It was charming, witty, and fun, making viewers smile.
Around 2019, the Hallmark Channel started integrating Hanukkah into their Countdown to Christmas line-up to celebrate how others celebrate the holidays.
While the previous movies were terrific, there is something special about Hanukkah on the Rocks, and part of that is the cast. Stacey Farber (Virgin River) and Daren Kagasoff (The Villiage) star in this holiday film.
(Courtesy of Hallmark Media)
Farber was in A Season For Family in 2023, but this is Kagasoff’s Hallmark debut, and they had instant chemistry.
Farber plays Tory, a corporate lawyer who gets laid off right before the holidays. Kagasoff portrays Jay, a radiologist, who returns home to try and convince his grandfather Sam to retire in Florida.
The importance of traditions and family relationships makes Hanukkah on the Rocks unique.

A three-season sci-fi series, which is led by one of the stars of Justified, has become a global hit on Netflix. The streamer has had some success with licensed sci-fi shows that originally aired elsewhere, with the most impactful likely being the mystery drama Manifest. Thanks to its performance on Netflix, Manifest was ultimately able to bow out with a proper final season despite initially being cancelled by NBC.
The horror sci-fi From, which U.S. viewers stream on MGM+, is available in some countries on Netflix, where it has regularly appeared in the platform's weekly top ten lists. The same is true for Lost, which is much more widely available, including in the U.S., and has experienced a bit of a cultural reemergence since being licensed. A far more recent sci-fi drama is showing early signs of enjoying the same trajectory.

After Manifest, another high-concept, serialized drama that ran on NBC for 3 seasons is making an impressive debut on Netflix. Season 1 of La Brea, starring Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken, was the #3 most watched English-language series globally on Netflix for the week of Dec. 2. That was despite the sci-fi drama being available only in selected countries, excluding the U.S., the UK, Brazil and other top Netflix territories.
La Brea (5 million views) was only bested on the weekly list by Last week’s #1, limited series The Madness (13.3M) and the high-profile new Kiera Knightly thriller drama Black Doves (10.8M). Unlike Manifest, which went on to produce a final season for Netflix after a dramatic cancellation by NBC, the Universal TV-produced La Brea wrapped its story with its abbreviated third season on the broadcast network.

Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas is in full swing, and Tis the Season to be Irish transports viewers to Ireland.
Hallmark fans of holiday and destination films will appreciate this one because the scenery is gorgeous and includes opposites that attract romance and plenty of other fulfilling relationships.
Fiona Gubelmann (The Good Doctor) and Eoin Macken (La Brea) star in this holiday film. Due to her filming schedule, Gubelmann hasn’t appeared in a Hallmark film in several years, while this is Macken’s first Hallmark film.
(Martin Maguire/ Hallmark Media)
What makes Tis the Season to be Irish special is that Macken is from Ireland. He looks at home there and speaks Irish, including inside jokes. It was the ideal film for his Hallmark debut.
Macken plays Sean, a local Irish realtor, while Gubelmann portrays Rose, a house flipper interested in one of his Irish cottages.

There have been numerous medical dramas on television, and 10 years ago, on May 27, 2014, The Night Shift joined that list. The NBC drama, with a cast including Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr, Robert Bailey, Jr., Jeananne Goossen, and Scott Wolf, ran four seasons and for three of them was a welcome addition to the summer lineup (the second aired in the spring). Created by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the drama followed the lives of the staff who work the late night shift in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial Hospital, and according to Macken, who was last seen on La Brea (which ended after three seasons on NBC), that’s not the only thing that made it stand out. “What Gabe and Jeff did was everyone that came onto that show in any capacity in every episode they knew or worked with usually, or if there...

Ken Leung's character, Topher, is unexpectedly killed off in The Night Shift due to a drunk driving accident. Topher's absence creates a noticeable void in the show, as he was considered one of the best parts of the series. The reason for Topher's departure was because Ken Leung did not renew his contract for season 4 of The Night Shift.
In the TV show The Night Shift, Topher (Ken Leung) dies unexpectedly. The Night Shift is a medical drama TV series that ran from 2014 to 2017. The series follows the late-night staff of an emergency room at the San Antonio Memorial Hospital, where the three main doctors are former military members who are now working the overnight shift. Though the series was not the best-received medical drama ever, with the first season receiving 17% on Rotten Tomatoes and many critics pointing to overused clichés dragging it down, The Night Shift still ran for four seasons.

If you’re a fan of Nicholas Gonzalez and his characters, his latest series regular roles have not made that easy. First, in The Good Doctor Season 3 finale, Dr. Melendez died as a result of injuries he sustained in an earthquake. Now, on La Brea, Levi was shot and killed saving his best friend Gavin (Eoin Macken). In both cases, his characters knew they had fatal wounds—and the actor knew those moments were coming in each case for a bit. “Yeah, there’s a certain knowledge of these two knowing they’re going to die as well as an actor who knew for a long time that he was going to die when no one else did,” Gonzalez tells TV Insider. “It was something on La Brea that everyone knew a little bit earlier because it wasn’t the same sort of attachment. Furthermore, it was supposed to come sooner. Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez) reappears, seemingly working for Maya (Claudia Ware), only to explain to Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney) that he infiltrated the military base to try to find Eve (Natalie Zea) and make it up to Gavin (Eoin Macken) and the others for everything he’s done, namely taking away their chance at leaving 10,000 BC by blowing up the tower. But when Levi hears that the soldiers are targeting Gavin to take him out—and sees Izzy (Zyra Gorecki)—he immediately breaks cover and runs to save his friend. He succeeds in doing that—and lets Gavin know where he can find Eve—but at the cost of his own life. But ...
