Cure Addiction Now Raises $800K at Inaugural Fundraising Event

On Monday, February 24, co-founder of Cure Addiction Now (Can), a nonprofit dedicated to funding innovative research for substance use disorder (Sud), Nancy Davis welcomed guests to The Beverly Hills Hotel for its Inaugural Fundraising Evening, which raised $800,000.

The inaugural event featured a cocktail reception, seated dinner, live auction and special performances by Rufus Wainwright, Siedah Garrett, David Foster, Madison Love, Colin Love, Scout Willis, and Luke K.

For the first time ever, the event united supporters, advocates and experts to raise critical funds for Can’s groundbreaking initiatives. By fostering collaboration among leading scientists and addressing both addiction and mental health, Can is advancing toward its goal of eliminating the stigma and delivering life-saving solutions. In addition to funding scientific research, a donation will be made from the event to a local center supporting patients who suffer from substance use disorder that have been affected by the fires in Los Angeles.

For the second year in a row, this legendary event was held at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium for a night of celebration and fundraising under the stars. The evening raised over $1.4 Million to benefit the Race to Race to Erase Ms and its Center Without Walls program, a collaboration of top Ms research centers working together as a team on ground-breaking research with the goal of treating and, ultimately, finding a cure for Ms.

But it did." 1091 has released an official trailer for a film titled Street Survivors, though the full title also sets up the plot: Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash. This is not a documentary, it's a fictional feature made about the plane crash. Strange but it's real. This premiered at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival last year. Street Survivors centers on drummer Artimus Pyle's experience as a band member with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the tragically fateful day their rented plane crashed in the late evening in the swamps of Gillsburg, Ms in October of 1977 and took the lives of singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, his sister back up singer Cassie Gaines, their road manager Dean Kilpatrick, and the two pilots. Earlier this month when we shared the new single “Take It Away” from Ontario's hellbilly horror rock team The Creepshow (be sure to give it a listen), we promised you'd be hearing more about them soon.... and the time has come, because their fourth studio album Life After Death hits the streets tomorrow, and we've got the full breakdown. Photo: Dirk "The Pixeleye" Behlau Since we last wrote about The Creepshow, they've gone through a few significant changes – most notably the arrival of lead vocalist and guitarist Kenda Legaspi, who joined the band last summer after the departure of Sarah Blackwood. But their signature blend of up-tempo, hooky southern-fried horror punk is still firmly in place, as are co-founders Sean McNab on upright bass and The Reverend Paul McGinty on keys, joined also on this outing by drummer Sandro Sanchioni (replacing Matt “Pomade” Gee, another of the band's co-founders) and guitarist Daniel Flamm.
