It's no secret Arnold Schwarzenegger defined an era of action cinema. From The Terminator (1984) until Eraser (1996), his cool one-liners, incomparable physique, and unique charm dominated the genre. But after over a decade of bangers and a stint as Governor of California, he starred in an unsung action gem that has become a hit on a Tubi. The Last Stand, which brought Arnold back to the big screen after a break from acting, is an unwinking celebration of the hits of his past that simultaneously acknowledges his age and abilities.
Arnie stars as Ray Owens, the sheriff of a quiet Arizona town who must stop an escaped drug kingpin from fleeing to Mexico in a 1000 horsepower supercar with only the help of a ragtag ne'er-do-well and three deputies, played by Johnny Knoxville and Luis Guzman, Jamie Alexander, and Rodrigo Santoro respectively. Elegant in its simplicity, the film never over-complicates what it's trying to do.

The ghost action really starts to kick in this week on American Horror Story season 6, which is still chock-full of creepy horror staples...
This review contains spoilers.
The scary child trope is one of the oldest horror staples I can think of. If kids aren't being scary, then they're in peril. For whatever reason, it's basically evergreen, and no matter how much you see a young child sitting in a closet under the stairs talking to a ghost, it retains some kind of weird power to make skin crawl. Especially if it's a really cute kid, like Lee's daughter Flora. The cuter the child, the more scary it is when the child says something like “They're going to kill us all and save me for last.”
Chapter 2 of the Roanoke saga combines a couple of different plots. The continued haunting of Matt and Shelby now shares time...

"Through searching for truth and happiness while dealing with regret over the death of her mother, Eve embarks on a fantastical journey in which she learns to balance expectations with reality...

After two international trailers, we finally have the first domestic trailer for Good Kill. The film reunites Gattaca and Lord of War director Andrew Niccol with actor Ethan Hawke for the story of a Las Vegas fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot who fights the Taliban via remote control for half of his day, then goes home to his wife (January Jones) and kids in the suburbs. But now, the pilot is starting to question his mission.
In the shadowy world of drone warfare, combat unfolds like a video game, only with real lives at stake. After six tours of duty, Air Force pilot Tom Egan now fights the Taliban from an air-conditioned bunker in the Nevada desert. But as he yearns to get back in the cockpit of a real plane and becomes increasingly troubled by the collateral damage he causes each time he pushes a button, Egan's nerves-and his relationship with his wife begin to unravel.

Ethan Hawke and filmmaker Andrew Niccol reunite after collaborating on Gattaca and Lord of War in the second international trailer for Good Kill, debuting just weeks after the first footage arrived. The film tells the story of a Las Vegas fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot (Ethan Hawke), who fights the Taliban via remote control for half of his day, then goes home to his wife (January Jones) and kids in the suburbs for the other half. But the pilot is starting to question the mission.
Is he creating more terrorists than he's killing? Is he fighting a war without end? One soldier's tale with epic implications. Good Kill is a visually stunning exploration of how a man's psychological, emotional and moral boundaries are challenged by the realities of 21st century warfare. The film initiates an important dialogue about the current techniques used in modern war, and in the same vein as The Hurt Locker...

IFC Films has picked up the distribution rights to Good Kill, which stars Ethan Hawke, January Jones and Zoë Kravitz.
Ethan Hawke portrays Egan, a former pilot who now flies drones via remote control. After spending eight hours a day flying these plans, he returns home to his wife (January Jones), whom he constantly argues with while numbing his stress and pain with alcohol. He gets new orders from the CIA to select targets based on patterns of activity, and not personality profiles, as Egan contemplates his future as a drone pilot. Jake Abel, Bruce Greenwood and Stafford Douglas co-star in the indie thriller.
Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, The Host) directs Good Kill from his own screenplay, with Nicolas Chartier and Zev Foreman producing for Voltage Pictures. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival, and held its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ewan McGregor has replaced Bradley Cooper in Gavin O'Connor's upcoming drama Jane Got a Gun. We reported last week that Bradley Cooper had to depart the project after the Boston bombings delayed production on the currently shooting American Hustle, which threw his schedule into disarray.
The story centers on Jane (Natalie Portman) whose outlaw husband (Noah Emmerich) returns home barely alive after taking eight bullets. She reluctantly recruits a former lover (Joel Edgerton) to defend their property as her husband's gang comes to finish him off. Ewan McGregor will be taking on the role of the villain and leader of this outlaw gang.
Gavin O'Connor is directing from a script written by Brian Duffield and Anthony Tambakis. The project originally had Lynne Ramsay directing with Jude Law and Michael Fassbender starring.
Production is currently taking place in New Mexico.

The troubled Western Jane Got a Gun suffered yet another setback today, when Bradley Cooper was forced to step away from the project. The actor is currently shooting American Hustle in Boston for director David O. Russell, and the schedule was pushed back due to the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings. He also has press obligations for The Hangover Part III, which lead to his departure.
The producers are currently trying to find a replacement as quickly as possible, seeking actors such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Hiddleston to fill their latest casting void. Bradley Cooper himself was a replacement for Jude Law, who backed out after director Lynne Ramsay abruptly quit on the first day of shooting. Gavin O'Connor is now directing, from a screenplay by Brian Duffield.

Bradley Cooper is stepping in to replace Jude Law in the Western Jane Got a Gun. Jude Law dropped out of the project last month, just one day after original director Lynne Ramsay abruptly left the project on the first day of shooting.
Jude Law himself was a last-minute replacement, boarding the project last month to take over for Michael Fassbender. Jude Law backed out after Lynne Ramsay left, because he had joined the project specifically to work with her.
Gavin O'Connor is directing from a screenplay by Brian Duffield. The story follows Jane (Natalie Portman), a young wife whose husband comes home riddled with bullet wounds, clinging on to dear life. She seeks the help of an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) when the outlaw (Bradley Cooper) who shot her husband comes back to finish off the job.

The troubled Western Jane Got a Gun suffered another blow today with Jude Law leaving the project, just hours after Gavin O'Connor replaced Lynne Ramsay at the helm.
The actor reportedly left the project because he specifically signed on to work with Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), who pulled a no-show on the first day of production after having heated arguments with producer Scott Steindorff the week prior. Ironically, Jude Law himself was a last-minute replacement. Michael Fassbender had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Joel Edgerton, who was already cast in a different role, took Michael Fassbender's role, with Jude Law taking Joel Edgerton's place.

Gavin O'Connor has officially replaced Lynne Ramsay as director on the troubled Western Jane Got a Gun.
Ramsay was a no show on the first day of production scheduled for earlier this week. Her abrupt departure left the shoot in a frantic search for a new director. She apparently fled without notice after a week of clashing with producer Scott Steindorff. It is not known what the fight was over.
When it was clear that Lynne Ramsay was not returning to work, producers Steindorff, Aleen Keshishian, Terry Dougas and Natalie Portman, who also stars in the film, hurried to find a replacement, which led them to Warrior and Tumbleweeds director Gavin O'Connor, who most recently directed The Americans: Pilot for FX.
This is the second averted disaster for the project in as many months. In late February, Michael Fassbender bailed at the last minute, but was quickly replaced by Joel Edgerton.

In what has to be a Hollywood first, director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) surprisingly dropped out of the Western Jane Got a Gun by simply not showing up for work on the first day of production yesterday. The film's producers, including star Natalie Portman and Scott Steindorff are currently scrambling to find a replacement. Here's what Scott Steindorff had to say in a statement.
"I have millions of dollars invested, we're ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast. I'm shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people. I feel more for the crew and their families, but we are keeping the show going on, directors are flying in, and a replacement is imminent.
