Undisputed Continues Troubling Game Trend That I Think Will Absolutely Tank The Game
Image
I've been playing the PC game version of Undisputed since its earliest beta on Steam, and while I was happy to hear it was finally coming to consoles in its 1.0 release, it's also committing a major gaming sin that I think could actually have a more cascading effect on its success. Developed by Steel City Studios out of Sheffield, UK, the new boxing title has a lot going for it, but it's important it doesn't get knocked down in these first few rounds if it wants to become a true contender to the Fight Night franchise.

Sitting with pretty disappointing overall "Mixed" reviews on Steam and lackluster reviews on consoles, even Canelo's star power isn't strong enough to save what some are considering a bad game. The introduction of a day-one Dlc called the Wbc Pack will only continue to hinder the success of the game or spell the end of the project altogether,...

25 WWE Vs Ufc Memes Only True Fans Will Get
When it comes to live entertainment, ball sports tend to stand victorious, but is there a spectacle more exciting than combat sports? Mixed martial arts have been around for a long time, but its been in the last decade that it has really started to become a worldwide phenomenon.

So far, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which hosts the most-viewed Mma bouts, is more popular than boxing itself. Arguably, the Ufc even helped put boxing back into mainstream conversations after Conor McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing ring. Yet, while the Ufc is the leading organization when it comes to combat sports, others tend to disagree, opting for another organization: the WWE.

Unlike the Ufc, the WWE has been around for many decades, under different names. Though the pro wrestling company is scripted, there’s no doubt that the slams and the hits are real. WWE stars get hurt all the time,...

5 Ufc Fighters Who Need To Retire In 2016
Gregory Payan/AP

Mma are arguably the toughest athletes on the planet. In a sport where the money hasn’t come near to scraping the pay of boxers or footballers, why do they continue to fight? The answer is simple; they love competing and for most of them it is all they know.

Continuing beyond your prime in a sport like basketball or soccer doesn’t come with many adverse affects besides you not performing at your best, but it’s a different story in combat sports. The price you pay is your health and the quality of your life. But such is the irresistible draw of competing that even when you’re past your athletic prime and others can see it, it’s possible for the fighter to miss the revelation.

After years of steeling themselves for battle and building their arrogance, they are always, inevitably, the last to doubt themselves.

Rizin Ff Interested In Signing Brock Lesnar For One Last Mma Fight
Ufc

Yes, he’s under contract to the WWE, and says his Mma days are done, but that hasn’t stopped one Mma outfit from making a play for Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar’s name has once again been brought up by an Mma promotion, this time by one that simply didn’t exist during his original run in the sport, Rizin. Yet while Rizin Fighting Federation, based in Japan and run by a former head of the legendary Pride, is new, it’s a promotion that has very deep pockets, and happens to have on their roster likely the only opponent that Lesnar would really be interested in facing at this point: heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko. The Russian heavyweight was undefeated for basically a decade, and is widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time.

A fight between the two was hotly anticipated for years, though it never materialized.

10 Ufc Fights For Brock Lesnar That We Wish Had Happened
Jae C. Hong/AP

Prior to WrestleMania 31, the big question was whether or not Brock Lesnar would re-sign with the WWE – or go back to his old stomping grounds in the Ufc’s heavyweight division. When he decided to call it a career in the Mma world at the 11th hour, we were left, as fight fans, wondering what if? What if Lesnar had come back? Who would he have fought? How would he have fared after all that time away?

Better yet, what if diverticulitis had not pretty much taken him out during the prime of his career, and nearly killed him? How good could Lesnar had been then, and what if he had been able to face some of the those great fighters both in and outside of the Ufc, most of whom are now fighting under the promotion’s banner?

There are just so many greats to choose from.

5 Reasons Jon Jones Is Already The Greatest Mma Fighter In History
John Locher/AP

Love him or hate him, Jon “Bones” Jones is an absolute beast.

Coming off of his impressive win over Daniel Cormier at Ufc 182, one of the main talking points surrounding Jon Jones was his place in history and his desire to become known as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all-time. In the post-fight press conference he admitted that he was willing to concede the honor to Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, but that he hopes to have surpassed them by the end of 2015.

He’s just being humble–a rarity for Jon Jones–because he’s already the greatest of all-time.

Who is truly the best ever is a hotly and often debated topic among Mma fans. A convincing case can only be made for a handful of guys, but depending on the criteria you’re using to evaluate them the list of potential candidates shrinks even smaller.

Ufc: Ranking Anderson Silva’s 11 Title Fight Wins
David Becker/AP/Press Association Images

When you talk of the Greatest of All Time in Mma (the Goat), you have three options for the most part: Georges St. Pierre, recognized as the most dominant welterweight in Ufc history. Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered the greatest heavyweight of all time. And Anderson Silva, the greatest middleweight of all time.

Each option has its merits, but one thing is for certain: no fighter was as feared as Silva during his peak. “The Spider” had explosiveness that few could match, combined with pinpoint striking accuracy. Facing Anderson Silva was for many akin to a death sentence; their fate was certain, only the time at which it came was up in the air.

Though he has not won a fight since 2012, and was defeated twice in 2013 by now middleweight champion Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva remains the consensus greatest middleweight of all time. He continues...

Brock Lesnar’s Expiring WWE Contract Could Lead To Ufc Return
wwe.com

Wrestling industry insiders have speculated on Brock Lesnar rejoining Ufc when his WWE deal expires this coming April. Dave Meltzer joined Jim Ross’ podcast and the pair talked about Lesnar’s future, with Ross noting that he understood there’d been no serious talks between WWE and Brock over a new deal. That raises the question of a potential Lesnar comeback in the Ufc.

Meltzer believes that it wouldn’t be in Lesnar’s best interests to fight as a 38 year old in 2015, but the Ufc is sure to offer leverage to any WWE negotiations. That’s because Ufc’s pay per view numbers have been declining since Lesnar left the Mma group, something which his return to the sport could remedy.

Brock was an attraction that was able to draw a million buys for a show, but he didn’t quite have the Mma skill to compete with Ufc’s top heavyweights.

10 Dream Ufc Fights Dana White Wanted To Promote
Dream fights. Or better yet, superfights. That’s a term that has grown and grown in Mma circles over the years as the sport has advanced in popularity, and more and more big name fighters have been signed to the Ufc. Yet despite their almost complete dominance, the Ufc has missed out on several major fights between marketable superstars both inside and outside of their organization.

Take, for example, The Last Emperor, and Brock Lesnar, the biggest heavyweight draw in Ufc history.

Brock vs Fedor would have been the biggest PPV fight ever, at least of the decade (lets leave room for future stars here), but Dana White couldn’t get it done. Whether you believe it was the Russian mob, M-1, a personal beef between Fedor and Dana, or whatever else, it never happened.

It could have. For the sake of the fans, it probably should have. Dana White...

10 Ways Scott Coker Can Improve Bellator To Compete With Ufc
It’s out with the old, in with the new over at Bellator this Summer, as founder Bjorn Rebney has been cut loose, and Strikeforce founder Scott Coker has been brought in to replace him. Coker has a lot of goodwill in the Mma world with both fans and fighters from his Strikeforce days. Originally a kickboxing promotion, Strikeforce got into the Mma game in 2006 and quickly became the number two promotion in the world, with fights airing live on Showtime. With a solid TV deal behind him, Coker handed out lucrative contracts to the likes of Jake Shields, Dan Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, Nick Diaz, Josh Barnett, Fabricio Werdum, Robbie Lawler, Nate Marquardt, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, and most importantly, Fedor Emelianenko.

Fans who for years had wanted to see Fedor fight big name heavyweights got their wish, as Strikeforce built the best heavyweight division in Mma (they probably didn...

Ufc/Pride Legend Cro Cop To Face Ishii In Japan
Pride legend and former Ufc fighter Cro Cop is heading back to Japan!

A bout between Pride legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović and Olympic Judo gold medal winner Satoshi Ishii has been announced for August’s Inoki Genome Fight 2 in Japan. The heavyweight clash takes place August 23rd in Tokyo.

Cro Cop is 1-1 since leaving the Ufc and briefly retiring from competition in Mma, a period that saw him heading back to the kickboxing realm. There, he would enter and later win the K-1 2012 Grand Prix. In the midst of the tournament (which spans several months), Filipović returned to the Mma world and beat the unknown Shinichi Suzukawa in 2012, before losing to Oleksiy Oliynyk the following year (Oliynyk earned himself a Ufc contract after that fight).

The legendary fighter struggled in his Ufc appearances, and would later openly admit that he was unhappy with how he performed in the promotion,...

10 Greatest Submissions In Ufc History
Gregory Payan/AP/Press Association Images

From that very first event which took place all those years ago in Denver, the power of grappling and submission in Mma has been abundantly clear. A slim, narrow-shouldered Royce Gracie would shock the world by grappling his way to win the first Ufc championship, demonstrating just how effective a submission fighter could be. Though now the unified Mma rules have introduced a set of weight classes, a skilled grappler is able to fight against a man much larger than himself and succeed purely through technique. As we have seen time and time again in the Octagon, a well-timed, well-disguised, well-executed submission can alter the tide of or even end a fight in seconds. Indeed, watching a fighter come from behind to catch his opponent in a skilful submission off of his or her back can be as good as it gets in Mma.

10 Biggest Head-Scratching Upsets In Ufc History
Mma is widely acknowledged as one of the least predictable of any sport. The phrase ‘anything can happen in the Octagon’ has become idiomatic in the Ufc community as fans have all too often been left scratching their heads after one of the sport’s supposed greats has been beaten by someone everybody had cast off as a hack. Regardless of how dominant a champion is, put any adult male against them wearing flimsy 4-ounce gloves and they’ll still have a [very small] chance of connecting with a lucky shot: now substitute this every-man figure for an actual fighter who, despite being dismissed as the underdog, has still managed to ascend the heights of the sport’s premier promotion, the Ufc.

Everyone is mortal and anybody is capable of having an off-night. This unpredictability is part of the reason for the Ufc’s trailblazing expansion over the last 5 or so years...

Ufc’s Wrestling Game: 15 Cuts and Counting
There are plenty of illusions in sports that fans allow to assume reality. We’re all guilty of, at one time or another, telling ourselves that this year is the year for our team. I know I’ve convinced myself on numerous occasions that my team’s latest acquisition would not be a bust even though he is known as an underachiever. And who hasn’t truly believed that their guy could defeat the heavy favorite? That’s what being a sports fan is all about. There is one misconception, however, that we all happily accept as truth because, without it, sports would mean nothing. We can’t be faulted for accepting the blatant deception as athletes themselves fall victim to it from time to time. The professional sports that we live and breathe are not sports at all. They are all businesses that make business-driven decisions to attract the casual fan.

Ufc Review: End of Year Podcast Special
2012 is over and what an amazing ride. The Ufc inked a paradigm-shifting, multi-year deal with Fox. They held more events, more fights, and carried a bigger roster than ever before. They anointed a new female champion Ronda Rousey (6-0). Champions returned (Gsp & Cain), legends retired (Tito, Fedor, Hughes) and the Greatest only pushed his atmospheric legacy to new heights.

To review the entire year and to forecast and prognosticate the upcoming 2013, I invite back both of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast co-hosts, English Thom Burton and Marcus Mitchell, to join me for a panel discussion.

Mike Tyson in Tyson (2008)
Mike Tyson and Rosie O'Donnell bonded over a mutual admiration for and love of mixed martial arts (Mma) on "The Rosie Show" (Weeknights, 7 p.m. Et on Own). As many consider Mike Tyson to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, there may be some added weight to his words when he says Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest Mma fighter of all time.

It helps that he's not alone in that assessment of the now 35-year old athlete, who went undefeated for ten years. But he's no longer at the apex of his career, so O'Donnell and Tyson agreed that they're currently more excited about Urijah Faber.

Tyson laughed, calling him "the little guy" -- Faber stands 5'6" -- and saying, "He's so cute with the hair." For O'Donnell, she loved how relaxed he was during a fight. "They have him in the headlock and they have him in the crucifix,...

Ufc Fox 2 Preview: Rashad Evans & The Dirty Little Secret
“Sugar” Rashad Evans (16-1-1) headlines the Ufc on Fox event this weekend, January 28, 2012. His opponent is the new Mma prototype of young, hyper-athletic, next generation fighter, Phil Davis (9-0), a fighter cut from the same cloth as current champion Jon Jones.

Evans has been the number 1 contender to reclaim his old belt for nearly two years now and is the consensus #2 light heavyweight in the world by every reputable poll. He is an athletic, powerful collegiate wrestler with quick hands and good power. By every measure, including his phenomenal record with wins over Rampage, Liddell, Bisping, Thiago Silva, and Tito Ortiz, Evans is a top tier fighter. One of the elites.

Or so you would think, but Rashad Evans has a dirty, little secret. A secret that he’s been able to conceal with lucky timing, wrestling, and quickness. A secret that the casual Mma fan would never know...

Brock Lesnar vs Fedor Emelianenko Dream Match Headed To Igf?
WWE is not the only company interested in setting up a Brock Lesnar pro wrestling match now that he has quit Mma. Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Simon Kelly Inoki, a promoter out in Japan, is trying to put together a Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko dream match but have it a pro wrestling bout for the Igf Promotion. Though the chances of it happening don’t seem very likely.

Inoki would need to strike a deal with Ufc and also front up more money than Vince McMahon who would no doubt want first dibs on a Lesnar pro wrestling match and Lesnar, who doesn’t like traveling, would be difficult to convince to make the long trip to Asia. Plus Inoki would have to get over the hurdle of convincing Fedor to try out a pro wrestling match.

The Russian Mma fighter is such a respected shoot fighter that...

Mma: A Great Sport in Need of a Great Documentary
Mixed Martial Arts, in its current inception, is a sport. When it began 20 years ago, it wasn’t. Not because it was more violent, which it was, but because it wasn’t conceived or presented as a sport. It was designed, in equal parts, as an earnest attempt to pit one martial arts style against another and as a violent spectacle. The Ufc was started, essentially, as a live-action martial arts infomercial by the Gracie family, the pioneers of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, who were anxious to demonstrate their vastly superior style against all comers, as they had been doing in Brazil for half a century. Matches generally weren’t the brutal blood-sport people might expect. More often than not, they were simply ugly fights between frequently unskilled competitors.

In less than 20 years Mma, still known to most people as Ufc fighting, has gone from being a nearly unknown fringe interest to...
