Cm Punk Addresses Tony’s Shocking ‘Revival’ Arrival & What’s Next: ‘He Is a Gruesome Dude’
Image
The twisty Revival continues to take viewers down the rabbit hole of what’s going on in Wausau. Based on the best-selling Image Comics series from Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, the Syfy series centers on the mystery surrounding how residents there came back to life within a specific two-week period of dying. Deputy Dana Cypress (Melanie Scrofano) and her dad, Sheriff Wayne Cypress (David James Elliott), have been investigating the origins of these revivers that act like they once were before what has been dubbed “Revival Day”. Among the big questions to answer is how Dana’s sister Martha “Em” (Romy Weltman) was murdered to become a reviver in the first place. Not to mention who killed Professor Aaron Weimer (Gianpaola Venuta) and shot Dana in the woods. The show’s premise is right up the alley of Phil Brooks, better known as Cm Punk. The popular WWE superstar...

Deathstalker remake sets film festival premiere, unveils new images
Image
Back in 1983, legendary producer Roger Corman brought the world a sword and sorcery film with an awesome title: Deathstalker. It was so successful, it paved the way for three sequels: Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans (1987), Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell (1988), and Deathstalker IV: Match of the Titans (1991). The franchise went dormant for more than thirty years, but last year we learned that it’s being revived by filmmaker Steven Kostanski – whose previous credits include Manborg, Father’s Day, The Void, Leprechaun Returns, Psycho Goreman, Frankie Freako, and episodes of the short-lived Day of the Dead TV series. Kostanski is writing and directing a Deathstalker remake that has Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick) playing the title character… and now we know when it’s going to premiere! The first screening of the new Deathstalker will be held at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on August 15th! The filmmakers...

Marvel Just Made Its Steamiest ’90s Costume Canon, Sparking Ire From Fans Everywhere: "This Makes Me Uncomfortable"
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals #1!One of the most unbelievable swimsuits ever published in a Marvel special is officially 100% canon. After three decades, Marvel Comics has brought its swimsuit special one-shots back for a brand-new, one-off story and showcase. And this time, it's canonizing one of the most bizarre pieces of swimwear ever seen in any summer special.

In Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals #1 by Tim Seeley, Tony Fleecs, and Nick Bradshaw, Roxxon has just published an unauthorized swimsuit special filled with AI-generated photography, and it's causing an uproar everywhere. To combat the media circus, the Avengers decide to publish their own special and they begin rallying the hero community.

While fighting A.I.M. the Avengers manage to convince Cloak and Dagger, though Punisher is a harder sell. However, they manage to save him from M.O.D.O.K., and Frank admits he owes them one.

Marvel Rivals Reveals Swimsuit Skins for Luna Snow, Thor, Psylocke, Punisher and More

Various designs for the upcoming swimsuit skins in Marvel Rivals have been revealed for several of Marvel’s hottest characters, and these designs are utterly ridiculous in the best way possible. They feature over-the-top styles that pay tribute to each character. However, this teaser isn’t the only place fans can expect to see them this week.

Marvel Rivals executive producer Danny Koo took to X on July 7, 2025, to build hype for the upcoming Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals #1 by Tim Seeley, Marguerite Sauvage, and others. The comic will spotlight new costumes that are coming soon to Marvel Rivals this summer.

While Koo shared a sneak peek at designs for Luna Snow, Loki, Psylocke, Punisher, and Thor, fans will be able to see the official versions in the comic on July 9, 2025, when the special is released. Until then, there is a lot to unpack with these ambitious and utterly wild designs.

Avengers Face A Shocking New 'A.I. Art' Scandal, As Marvel Takes A Controversial Risk
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Marvel Swimsuit Special #1.

Marvel Comics has joined the hotly debated anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) in a surprisingly meta fashion. A preview for the upcoming Marvel Swimsuit Special #1 hints at a storyline that thrusts the Avengers, particularly Captain America, into the heart of an AI-generated art scandal, mirroring real-world concerns about AI's ethical implications and its potential impact on creative industries.

Marvel Swimsuit Special #1, by the creative team of Tim Seeley, Tony Fleecs, Nick Bradshaw, and Rachelle Rosenberg, is set to explore this contentious topic. The preview shows Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Janet Van Dyne, Jennifer Walters, and Natasha Romanoff taking the lead in voicing their disgust with the oil company, Roxxon, using their likenesses for the cover of a swimsuit issue.

Steve Rogers is rightfully the most offended of them all and the first to point out that the use of his image,...

Image
After debuting strong with both critics and audiences, Syfy's Revival is two episodes in, with new installments dropping Thursdays at 10 pm Et/Pt. Ahead of the third episode's airing, Cbr has an exclusive sneak peek at what's to come in a new clip.

Revival is a story about dead people rising from the grave, but it's not exactly a zombie series. Those who are "revived" are more similar to how they were when they were living, though there are many big questions that remain. In our sneak peek at episode 104, Deputy Dana Cypress goes to confront Jordan's parents as they struggle to accept that their daughter is a Reviver. Check out the clip below.

Revival is based on the Image Comics series from Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce created the series and serve as showrunners. The show stars Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott,...

'Wynonna Earp' Star's New 93% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-fi Series Teases Fresh Horror in Episode 3 Promo
Image
Two episodes in, and Syfy's latest series, Revival, is already going from strength to strength. Following a pulse-racing opening that showcased the series' gorgeous horror-noir-inspired visuals and its clever spin on the zombie sub-genre, Episode 2, "Keeping Up Appearances," cemented each of these aspects and confirmed the show as must-watch horror TV. The prime factor in the series' early success is Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano, who stars as local police officer Dana Cypress.

Now, with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score higher than both Wynonna Earp and Scrofano's cult slasher-comedy movie, Ready or Not, more will likely begin heading to Syfy to see what all the fuss is about. They will be greeted by the upcoming Episode 3, "Reality Check," which looks to be a chaotic installment ready to lean heavier into horror stylings as the mystery continues to unravel. As can be seen in the episode's promo, available to watch below,...

On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the “revived” appear and act just like they once were. When local Officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.

Syfy’s 92% Rotten Tomatoes Series ‘Revival’ Promises a Holy War to Come in New Episode 2 Promo
Image
Based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, Syfy's latest series, Revival, might have only just aired its debut episode, but it's clear to those who tuned in that this is a horror hit in the making. A fascinating concept has so far been backed up by gorgeous horror-noir-inspired visuals and a typically brilliant lead performance from Scrofano. Currently, the series holds a mightily impressive 92% critics' score and a 90% audience rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, officially matching the score of Wynonna Earp and even outperforming Scrofano's beloved slasher-comedy movie, Ready or Not. Wynonna Earp is back on the air... kind of. Melanie Scrofano, the titular star of the acclaimed supernatural western series that ended in 2021, has returned to Syfy to play a new enforcer of the law wrapped up in her own supernatural happenings in the new series, Revival. Instead of fighting the resurrected outlaws her great-great-grandfather gunned down years ago, however, she's now dealing with a murder mystery in a small Wisconsin town where the dead have risen from the Earth with their original personalities, memories, and appearances still intact. The first episode premiered on Thursday, but to get more viewers interested in the twisty new supernatural tale, SyFy has now made "Don't Tell Dad" available to watch for free on YouTube before the show gets into full swing.

'Revival's Investigation Gets Too Close to Home in Sneak Peek for New 88% Rotten Tomatoes Mystery

Syfy’s latest supernatural series, Revival, certainly wowed viewers with its premiere episode, “Don’t Tell Dad,” which saw Melanie Scrofano’s Dana almost lose her sister, who then turned out to be a Reviver. The show returns next Thursday with a similarly intense episode titled "Keeping Up Appearances," but before then, we have a snippet of what’s ahead for the townsfolk who are still coming to terms with the miraculous resurrection of the recently deceased.

In "Keeping Up Appearances," Dana’s sister Em, portrayed by Romy Weltman, is still working on the fact that she’s basically an undead —but not a zombie. At the same time, some folks in the rural Wisconsin town have come together to form an angry mob who are “ready for a Holy War.” Dana and Em’s father, Wayne (David James Elliott), the town’s sheriff, believes the only way to maintain...

Syfy series Revival episode 1 recap: Don't tell dad that I'm dead
Image
What if the dead don't stay dead? Syfy's new drama series Revival is just the latest in a long line of supernatural horror shows to explore this premise, but it does have a unique twist that could set it apart from other similar zombie-esque series.

Based on the comic book series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, Revival is set in a rural small town Wausau, Wisconsin where the a bunch of formerly deceased people come back to life with seemingly no brain-eating tendencies. They're just... alive again, though there a couple of twists we'll get into later. What do you do when you've mourned someone and buried them, only to learn they've returned from the grave?

The series premieres thrusts us into this situation via a moratorium where a recently departed man is about to be cremated. But just as the flames start to lick his corpse, he returns to life,...

‘Revival’: Inside the Undead Murder Mystery Series That Thrived Despite a Low Budget and Tight Filming Schedule
Image
Although the new series “Revival,” which debuts June 12 on Syfy, is a spooky story about the undead coming back to life, one of the scariest moments actually happened while shooting the final episode of the season. Aaron B. Koontz, the show’s co-creator, showrunner and executive producer, remembers the last night of the shoot, in which a tight schedule nearly toppled production.

“Samir Rehem, the amazing director for our second block, there was a moment where he was literally catatonic,” Koontz says. “He just stood there. I’m like, ‘Samir, what are we going to do?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ I’m like, ‘Well, we got to get the crane. We gotta move over there,’ and he’s like, ‘Aaron, Aaron, not now.’ I’m about to go direct the end of the scene because I think we just broke our director because he...

‘Revival’ Review: Syfy’s Midwestern Zombie Mystery Is Just Clever Enough to Be Fun
Image
Revival, Syfy’s new horror-noir-dramedy thing, is both very much like a lot of shows we’ve seen recently and not.

It is yet another 2025 series about, to paraphrase my colleague’s summary of The Better Sister, two estranged sisters simultaneously bonded and torn apart by trauma — only in this case, the circumstances of their reunion involve the dead suddenly coming back to life. Which might suggest zombie action à la The Last of Us, except these resurrected have no evident interest in eating anyone’s brains, just in returning to their old lives.

One of said sisters (Melanie Scrofano’s Dana) is a police detective with a personal investment in the case of a murdered young woman; I’m sure you can fill in your own point of comparison from any number of noir-laced shows here.

None of these tropes is getting radically reinvented here, so much as they...

SyFy Horror Series 'Revival' Lands Supernatural Rotten Tomatoes Debut
Image
Syfy has made a name for itself by delivering some very underrated and underseen shows and movies - along with some that should really remain unseen. However, one that is making waves on the network is a series you should tune in for.

"Arriving at a time when zombie stories are teetering on the brink between popular and overplayed, it benefits from an approach that doesn't take itself too seriously," said Gavia Baker-Whitelaw from TV Guide in their review of the new series. Clint Worthington from RogerEbert.com also had high praise for the series, highlighting its ensemble cast:

"It's really the cast that helps elevate Revival, particularly Scrofano, who carries the entire piece on her resolute shoulders."

Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce Bring ‘Horror with Heart’ to Syfy’s Revival
Image
The dead are coming back — but not like you’ve seen before.

Syfy’s new series Revival kicks off on Thursday, June 12 at 10/9c with a premise that’s more intimate than apocalyptic: in a small Midwestern town, 47 people suddenly return from the dead.

They’re not monsters. They’re themselves. But that’s where the mystery begins.

(Courtesy of Syfy)

Executive producers and showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce leaned into the emotional core of the story — adapted from the Image Comics series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton — and brought their personal experiences growing up in rural towns to the screen.

“You’re completely right. It is the emotion,” Koontz said when asked what made Revival stand out.

“It was there in the comic. There was something that was embedded in what Tim and Mike had created — that was the sister story. I thought it was really wonderful.

Revival Review — A Funny Mystery with the Horrors of the Undead
Image
Comic book adaptations of indie comics can hit the ground running if the tone of a comic has been fully explored. However, the adaptation process still requires a steady hand, and Syfy’s latest series, Revival, has that from the jump. Co-created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, the adaptation of Tim Seeley and Mike Norton’s comic builds from an interesting foundation. Grounding the story from the point of view of a family, the undead horror-comedy is one of the best shows in years from Syfy. With plenty of heart and fun characters, Revival deserves to be a big hit for the genre network.

Revival Season 1 Plot

The small-town residents of Wausau, Wisconsin, find themselves under lockdown when a strange event occurs. On “Revival Day,” those who died in the last few weeks suddenly return to life. With the town and government worried about its implications for the country,...

Godzilla is getting its first ongoing comic series in a decade from Idw Publishing, offering a fresh take on the King of the Monsters that launches a new shared universe, dubbed the Kai-Sei era.

“In 1954, experimentation with a mysterious energy source known as Kai-Sei awakened Godzilla and a host of immortal kaiju. In the years that followed, humanity has been pummeled by near-constant monster attacks. While Japan has begun to treat the kaiju like natural disasters, understanding that their attempts to fight Godzilla only make the threat worse, the American G-Force is going to fight, fight, fight.

“The Americans have just discovered the ultimate tool in the fight against kaiju: a young boy named Jacen with the power of Godzilla. Able to harness the mysterious Kai-Sei in...

‘Resident Alien’ To Stay On Syfy After All In Simulcast With USA; Season 4 Premiere Date & Trailer Released
Image
Almost a year after Resident Alien moved from Syfy to NBCUniversal sibling USA Network with a suspenseful Season 4 renewal, a premiere date has been set for said Season 4 and, surprisingly, it involves both the sci-fi comedy-drama’ new and old homes.

The new season of Resident Alien will debut June 6 as a simulcast on USA and Syfy. The decision to keep the show on Syfy in addition to its USA run reportedly came in the months following the Season 4 renewal. Also today, Syfy announced a June 12 premiere for its new scripted series Revival, headlined by Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano. Episodes of Resident Alien and Revival — both based on comics — will be available on Peacock a week after they premiere on the linear networks.

As Deadline reported last spring, Resident Alien, facing cancellation at Syfy, moved to USA for a fourth season with a significant budget reduction. The USA/Syfy simulcast...

Marvel Comics Revives Controversial Swimsuit Special 30 Years After Cancellation; First Artwork Released
Image
Three decades after being shelved by Marvel Comics, the Marvel Swimsuit Special is returning for modern audiences to tie in with a new Marvel Rivals Summer update.

A parody of Sports Illustrated’s annual Swimsuit Special, the Marvel Swimsuit Special was cancelled back in the mid-90s in the midst of continued criticism for its objectification of characters (though we don't know for certain that this is why the concept was scrapped).

The new comic book will release in July after a “long-demanded return” to tie in with Marvel Rivals, and will feature designs for new costumes coming to the game. Players will be able to purchase new swimsuit skins for popular heroes, such as Storm, Scarlet Witch, The Incredible Hulk and more.

This new take in the Swimsuit Special will also have a story, "so you can pretend you’re reading it for the articles."

Marvel's Swimsuit Special Returns After 30 Year Absence
Image
While Marvel was not the first company to do swimsuit specials featuring their characters (a play on how Sports Illustrated dedicates an issue of its magazine every year to a swimsuit special), its series of Marvel Swimsuit Specials were by far the most famous examples of that approach, especially as the first such special, released in 1991, was released before Image Comics debuted, so it featured art from a number of the superstar Marvel artists who then left to form Image, including pieces by Image founders Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, and Whilce Portacio.

The final Marvel Swimsuit Special was released in 1995, but now, in the wake of DC doing its own Swimsuit Special last year, after 30 years, Marvel is returning to its Swimsuit past with a new one-shot, Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals #1, due out in July!

What creators are involved in the Swimsuit Special?

The issue will be written...

Marvel's Rogue: The Savage Land Features The X-Men Going Full Jurassic World [Exclusive Preview]
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Was the romance between Magneto and Rogue your favorite part of "X-Men '97"? Then do I have the comic for you!

Now, in the ongoing "present" of Marvel Comics, Rogue is starring in Gail Simone and David Marquez's "Uncanny X-Men," which follows her and Gambit training a new generation X. New mini-series "Rogue: The Savage Land" throws Anna Marie back to 1991, before she even met Gambit, to when she and Magneto were lost in the titular dinosaur-filled jungle. Marvel has shared an exclusive preview of "Rogue: The Savage Land" issue #2 with /Film.

A few recent "X-Men" miniseries have been revisiting "gaps" from Chris Claremont's titanic 1975-1991 run on the book. Claremont himself returned for "Wolverine: Madripoor Knights" (drawn by Edgar Salazar) which went back to "Uncanny X-Men" #268 for another team-up between Logan, Captain America, and Black Widow. Marvel Comics takes us back as X-Men's Rogue is challenged in the Savage Land
Jim Lee
The '90s were a crazy time for comic books, especially when independent companies like Image Comics rose in popularity. Gen13 and the art of J. Scott Campbell are prime examples of this. So, it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that one of the creators of Gen13 also created one of the most iconic superhero outfits in all comic book lore. One that is still debated and cosplayed to this day, I am talking about Jim Lee and Rogue’s Savage Land outfit, first appearing in Uncanny X-Men #269.

Now, comic book readers will travel back with Rogue: The Savage Land, as writer Tim Seeley and up-and-coming artist Zulema Scotto Lavina expand on the story first introduced in 1990.
