Tom DeLonge’s directorial debut, Monsters of California, emerges as a distinct cultural artifact, a film imaginable only from the mind of the Blink-182 musician and noted ufologist. It actively channels a specific American sensibility, one steeped in the sun-drenched skate parks, suburban anxieties, and anti-establishment posture of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The film is a direct dialogue with that era’s youth culture. Its story follows Dallas Edwards, a teenager living under the shadow of his government-agent father’s mysterious disappearance. When Dallas uncovers his father’s hidden research notebooks and technology, he, along with his perpetually high friend Toe and the more reserved Riley, embarks on a decidedly Californian quest.
Their search for answers about paranormal events feels less like a structured investigation and more like a rebellious, aimless road trip fueled by cheap beer and a deep-seated distrust of authority. The introduction deliberately aims for...

From Blink–182 frontman to filmmaker, Tom DeLonge continues his long-standing obsession with the paranormal in Monsters of California, a coming-of-age sci-fi adventure that lands on UK digital platforms from 7 July 2025. Co-written and directed by DeLonge alongside Ian Miller, the film is an unabashed homage to classic teen-driven genre fare, blending conspiracy theories, alien sightings and teenage recklessness into a fast-paced story with supernatural overtones.
Set under the sun-drenched skies of Southern California, the film follows Dallas Edwards, played by Jack Samson, whose adolescence is punctuated by grief, mischief and a consuming belief that extraterrestrial life is not only real but lurking dangerously close. Along with his closest friends Riley (Jared Scott) and Toe (Jack Lancaster), Dallas digs into a string of strange phenomena, convinced they’re connected to the disappearance of his fighter pilot father years earlier.
Their amateur investigations take a sudden turn when they discover remnants of their father’s work,...

The title Monsters Of California intends to refer to a variety of entities sought by three adventuresome teen lads. We meet them hunting ghosts and demons before they shift into pursuing urban legend myths and ultimately trying to prove UFOs have been visiting from other worlds. The title unintentionally winds up equally applying to many of the mere mortals among them.
Dallas Edward’s (Jack Samson) dad was a Navy pilot, presumed dead from a secrecy-shrouded mission some years before. His smart pal Riley (Jared Scott) and their goofy stoner cohort nicknamed Toe (Jack Lancaster) crash headlong into conflicts with military and covert government entities thwarting their efforts while also dogging them in search of some intel Dallas’ dad may have left behind. The average person knows Tom DeLonge for his time in Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves; however, he also holds an interest in other areas such as clothing, art, and the paranormal. Now, DeLonge can add co-writer and director to his list of accolades with the release of his feature film directorial debut, Monsters of California, which finds a way to combine the sophomoric sense of humor of Blink182 and his obsession with the supernatural. The resulting effort is a surprisingly entertaining film, even if it does falter in its emotional peaks.
Written by DeLonge and Ian Miller, Monsters of California follows teenager Dallas Edwards (Jack Samson) and his friends Ripley (Jared Scott) and Toe (Jack Lancaster) as they discover top-secret supernatural research left behind by Dallas' missing father. The teenagers, along with Dallas' new love interest, Meg (Camille Kostek), explore the conspiracy theories while trying to avoid the government official Captain...

Ghosts, grief, and God are all prominent themes in Tom Delonge of Blink-182's directorial debut, Monsters of California. The story, which Delonge co-wrote with Ian Miller and Ben Kull, centers around a teenager, Dallas, who comes across research left behind by his missing — presumed dead — father. He recruits two of his friends and a girl he meets at a coffee shop to join him on a quest to uncover what really happened to his father. Along the way the group encounters a variety of different forms of paranormal activity as the military makes futile attempts to chase them down.

"Dad never thought I was crazy!" Cartel & To The Stars has revealed a teaser trailer for a mysterious sci-fi thriller project titled Monsters of California, arriving sometime later this year. This has a vintage look and feel, referencing the kind of low-budget sci-fi movies they don't make anymore. Marking the directorial debut of rocker Tom DeLonge (of Blink 182 and Angels & Airwaves), Monsters of California follows the teenager Dallas Edwards and his misfit friends as they attempt to unearth answers to a series of mysterious, paranormal events happening around Southern California. They soon begin to unravel the extraordinary secrets held within the deepest levels of the Government. The film stars Richard Kind, Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico!!), Arianne Zucker, Camille Kostek, Gabrielle Haugh, Jack Samson, Jared Scott, and Jack Lancaster. This doesn't look half bad, but there's so much going on in this teaser it's a bit hard to make any sense of it.
