Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars was everything I had hoped for. We were introduced to a special group of people and couples this season of the dance competition series. Ilona Maher, Dwight Howard, and Reginald VelJohnson are some of the amazing contestants who stood out to me. The most wholesome friendships blossomed - such as Rylee Arnold and Ilona and Alan Bersten, and overall, this season brought life and joy back into this show. The only thing that was missing throughout the season was the big celebration when Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson were announced as the winners.

In 2023, Fox premiered an entirely new kind of reality TV series that took celebrities on intense missions in unforgiving environments that tested both their mental and physical abilities. Unlike most reality TV competition series, there were no eliminations, but recruits who could not handle the pressures of these series of tests could withdraw at any point.

Previous seasons saw a wide array of celebrities competing, from star athletes to Bachelor contestants. Dancing with the Stars season 33 recently aired the show's historic 500th episode which saw the six remaining couples reinterpret memorable dances from the previous seasons.

Dancing With The Stars just presented its 500th episode and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Viewers enjoyed reflecting on 19 years of DWTS and all the talented contestants featured over the course of 33 seasons.

Former pro dancer Sharna Burgess participated in the opening group number, leaving many fans wondering if she’s returning for Season 34.

But at the end of the night, another couple left the competition. Now there are five couples remaining. Who advanced to the semifinals and who left?

The 500th DWTS Episode Featured A Clear Leader

There have been many exciting routines so far this season, but the 500th episode featured the first perfect score of the year. “Dancing With the Stars” hit a new milestone on Nov. 12, and revealed who was heading to the semifinals for Season 33. The 500th episode opened with pros — including returning favorite Sharna Burgess — for the opening number, “Crazy in Love,” the same opening number from the 2005 series premiere. Many past competitors returned to the ballroom, including Adam Rippon, Ginger Zee, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Alyson Hannigan, Aj McLean and Simone Biles.

This week, each of the remaining six teams performed routines honoring fan-favorite performances from the past.

Last week ended with a tie on the leaderboard: Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson had 32 points, as did Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong. So both came ready to fight for that top spot.

“Dancing with the Stars” celebrated its 500th episode Tuesday night with the remaining six remaining couples “reinterpreting” past memorable dances with new choreography.

Week 8 of Season 33 also saw the first perfect score of the season, earned by Chandler Kinney for her Argentine Tango with Brandon Armstrong. Judge Derek Hough, who first performed the dance in Season 16 with Kellie Pickler, called it “smooth as silk,” gushing, “I preferred this one, even over mine!” Tonioli said Kinney “blended beauty and danger,” while Inaba raved, “You are maybe the most powerful female dancer I have ever seen on this dance floor.”

Dancing with the Stars is celebrating its 500th episode!

Episode 8 of the ABC dancing competition series aired on Tuesday night (November 12) and the 6 remaining couples returned to the ballroom to mark 500 episodes since its debut on ABC in 2005.

For their first dance, the couples re-created some of the most iconic dances in DWTS history. Then the second round was “Instant Dance” where the couples were given their style of dance and song just five minutes before they had to perform it live.

Dancing with the Stars will air live at 8pm Et on ABC, Disney+, and Hulu every Tuesday night until the end of the season.

Long-time Dancing With The Stars fans can hardly believe there have been 500 episodes of the spectacular show. More than anything, the cast and crew wanted to put on a memorable performance to commemorate the occasion.

The night featured plenty of great performances and surprises too. Former pro dancer Sharna Burgess even took part in the opening number, possibly leaving the door open to her return next year.

But when the performances were over, who earned the top spot on the leaderboard?

DWTS Season 33 Has Its First Perfect Score Of The Year

The 500th episode featured many memorable moments, including the first perfect score of the season. Disney Channel actress Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong have dominated the leaderboard since the season premiere, so few fans felt surprised to see them earn the first perfect 30/30.

They performed the Argentine tango to “Para Te” by Appart, inspired by Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler’s Season 16 performance.

Although she received an invite, former Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke revealed she won’t appear at the show’s milestone 500th episode.

The 40-year-old appeared in 25 seasons of the dance competition series and won the Mirrorball Trophy in her first two with singer Drew Lachey and former NFL player Emmitt Smith.

Burke worked with other celebrities, including singer Wayne Newton, game show host Drew Carey, and Good Morning America star Sam Champion.

She officially retired from DWTS after the Season 31 finale and previously revealed she sought a promotion on the show, but she and her team knew it wouldn’t ever happen.

Following that departure, Burke began sharing her thoughts about DWTS on her Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast.

Dancing With The Stars Season 33 has the honor of hosting the 500th episode spectacular tonight. Several former professional dancers received an invitation to return to the ballroom tonight. But there are plenty more surprises in store. Some may even bring viewers to tears.

Since 2005, DWTS has brought magic and excitement to homes all over the world. In honor of the 500th episode, producers wanted to reflect on some of the major players and events that helped bring the show to life over the years.

So what can viewers expect tonight?

DWTS Season 33 Honors The Late Len Goodman

People obtained a sneak peek of tonight’s special episode. In a teaser, a voiceover announces DWTS has seen “21 Emmys, 394 stars, 51 pros, and 32 winners,” since its debut 19 years ago.

Last week, Dancing With The Stars was preempted for a second time in Season 33 this time for the 2024 election but the reality TV dance competition is making up for it with a "very special episode."

As we recently reported, last week's skipped episode happened to coincide with DWTS' 500th episode, so fans will be rewarded for their patience with an even livelier and more action-packed celebration.

In an October 31 press release, ABC listed off the show's accomplishments, and teased the upcoming episode:

"After 21 Emmys, 51 pros, 394 Stars, 32 winners and thousands of iconic performances, 'Dancing with the Stars' celebrates the milestone 500th episode for a night full of dazzling moves and star-studded moments."

DWTS' most recent milestone of the sort was its 400th episode, which aired on March 20, 2017.
