According to Jeff Sneider, Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer) is set to join Hulu’s upcoming reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As you might expect, details on her character are being kept under wraps, but Sneider hears she will guest star in the pilot.

A few months ago, it was revealed that Legendary Pictures, the company behind the 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre film that was released through the Netflix streaming service, had let their rights to make new films in the franchise lapse, so Verve, which currently represents the rights, are looking to “build out a multimedia strategy” for the franchise, with filmmakers, producers, and buyers looking to get involved. It was said that writer/director Jt Mollner (Strange Darling) and producer Roy Lee (It) were among the interested parties, teaming up with A24 for a TV series pitch that has actor Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) hoping to read the script. But A24 / Mollner / Lee had some serious competition. A couple of months ago, we heard that five to eight studios and/or streamers were seeking the rights, with names in the mix including Jordan Peele’s company Monkeypaw, Osgood Perkins and Neon, and even Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan!

Update: Variety has confirmed the news, reporting that Margot Robbie is in early talks to join Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman remake. If the deal closes, she will produce the film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, but it’s still up in the air if she will star in the movie. However, HBO reportedly has no plans to announce who has been cast in the role, as the network wants to keep the casting a secret until the first season airs, which isn't until 2027. The Paper finally has a premiere date. The long-awaited spinoff of The Office will begin streaming on Peacock this September.

Peacock has revealed that the first four episodes of The Paper will premiere on Sept. 4, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through Sept. 25.This means the entire 10-episode season will be rolled out in less than a month. While the binge method (a.k.a. releasing the entire season at the same time) was once a popular release method for streaming originals, in recent years, streamers like HBO Max, Prime Video, and Disney+ have gone back to the tried and true one-episode per week release pattern, with some notable exceptions like multi-episode premieres or finales. With The Office a consistent streaming hit, the decision to burn through an entire season of its highly anticipated spinoff in just one month is somewhat unusual, although Peacock likely has a reason for doing so.

Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has just been dealt another devastating blow. Mahershala Ali, who is set to star in the long-gestating superhero blockbuster as the titular hero, recently skirted around a question involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe while promoting his new movie, Jurassic World Rebirth.

During a recent appearance on Vogue's Off the Cut podcast (via ComicBook) with his Rebirth co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson, the cast was asked how many Marvel movies they had appeared in, prompting Ali to state, "Leave me out of it. The news cycle has slowed down a little as everyone in the U.S. enjoys the long weekend, but Marvel Studios has managed to assemble the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps to wish fans a happy Fourth of July.

In the promo, Joseph Quinn, the actor who plays the Human Torch, has a hard time getting his "flame on" and is eventually abandoned by his co-stars. The studio has also celebrated the holiday with a new TV spot featuring a fresh look at Galactus. You can see that here.

Superman director James Gunn and his cast are currently touring the world to promote the first DC Studios movie, but will it pay off when the reboot opens in North America next weekend?

Tracking has been all over the place for this one, though the trades recently reported that $125 million - $145 million was looking likely (which was a dip from very early estimates of $185 million - $200 million). At the time, many of those outlets also suggested Superman could debut on the lower end, with as little as $90 million.

With a rumoured budget of $225 million, not including marketing, that would be a disastrous start for the Dcu. Gunn has said he'd be fine with breaking even, but a blockbuster that barely turns a profit is hardly a win for a brand already running on fumes.

Scooper Mttsh is reporting that Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his Daredevil: Born Again role as Frank Castle/The Punisher for a "major role" in the fourth Spider-Man film.

This rumor follows a recent report from Nexus Point News, who claimed that Mark Ruffalo is set to return as Bruce Banner, noting that "Banner’s appearance will be much larger than a cameo, and Ruffalo will have a substantial role in the film."

According to Jeff Sneider, multiple sources say The Muppets director James Bobin is in negotiations to direct Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved ’80s video game Dragon’s Lair, with Ryan Reynolds attached to star.

Discussions about adapting the quarter-killing video game were announced in 2020. Ryan Reynolds would play Dirk the Daring, the game’s main protagonist, a knight tasked with rescuing Princess Daphne from Mordroc and Singe. Reynolds’s Maximum Effort would produce the feature alongside George Dewey and Patrick Gooing. Sneider says Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Underground’s Trevor Engelson will also produce with Gary Goldman, Jon Pomeroy, and Don Bluth, who co-created the original game with Rick Dyer.

Acclaimed director Ron Howard surprisingly had a tough time finding a distributor for his upcoming film, Eden. This is even with an all-star cast including Ana De Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law and Daniel Bruhl. 2025 is an exciting summer for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These new crossover films have already been confirmed to feature the introduction of many "X-Men" characters into the MCU, with the likes of Ian McKellan, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn officially reprising their roles as the mutants Magneto, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Mystique. Natasha Lyonne is reportedly set to appear in a biopic of comedienne Joan Rivers. Lyonne, whose next project is Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, was recently in the public eye with her acclaimed show, Poker Face, from Rian Johnson. There haven’t been any official announcements, except for a rumor from an industry insider.

Joan Rivers was popular for her self-deprecating jokes, as well as her sharp, straightforward digs at celebrities. While DC Studios announced plans for the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost TV series at the start of 2023, there was no mention of a new Wonder Woman movie. Updates have since been few and far between, despite Superman and The Brave and the Bold being in the works. 

That changed this week. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn said, "Wonder Woman's a separate thing, slow moving, but it's moving. We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."

While many fans have been speculating about who could play the next Diana Prince, some believe Gal Gadot will get another shot at donning the Amazonian's armour. She portrayed the hero in several Dceu movies, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Zack Snyder's Justice League, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

Two years ago, it was announced that some of today’s biggest genre companies – A24, James Wan‘s Atomic Monster, the Stranger Things makers at 21 Laps, and Planet of the Apes producers Chernin Entertainment – are joining forces on a new project called The Backrooms, which will mark the feature directorial debut of director and VFX artist Kane Parsons, who is only 19 years old. A few weeks ago, we heard (via Jeff Sneider of The InSneider) that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) in final negotiations to star while Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) is in early talks to join him. Sneider’s source told him that Ejiofor’s deal is all but closed, but Milioti’s involvement is 50-50 at this point. Now, Variety reports that A24 has officially given a greenlight to the project, which has Ejiofor attached to star, with Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) joining him in the cast.

Recent casting news could indicate that Marvel Studios' Blade film is about to lose another key actor. The Blade film was announced way back in 2019, with Mahershala Ali attached as the titular vampire hunter. In the years since, Blade has stopped and started on its journey to production, losing directors, gaining new actors, and remaining in development hell. 

Mia Goth was announced to join the Blade cast in April 2023, where she was reported to play the villain, Lilith. However, later that year, the Writers' and Actors Guild strikes put the film back into its perpetual development cycle. More recently, Goth has been attached to another major franchise, with Jeff Sneider reporting she is joining the cast of Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter, alongside Ryan Gosling. Starfighter is targeting a May 2027 release date and is expected to film later this year.
