Celebrated Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who serves as festival director of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi), Goa, has outlined his vision for the 2024 edition, emphasizing a shift away from comparing Indian cinema to Western standards.

“For a long time, at every festival, we’ve kind of looked down upon ourselves as though Indian cinema needs to catch up to the West, and that’s a narrative that I want to change,” says Kapur.

The director points to India’s historical ability to adapt Western technology, from the early days of the first Indian feature “Raja Harishchandra,” to modern digital platforms. “Right from ‘Raja Harishchandra,’ when we first made our first film, we actually adopted what is a completely Western technology of cameras and showing a projection, and became the largest filmmaking community in the world. There’s something about our population that takes to audiovisual storytelling in leaps and bounds.

Earlier today, the cowboy hat-wearing RuPaul Charles opened the festivities at the Los Angeles Convention Center with the ceremonial cutting of the pink ribbon. “Fabulous! Have a good time. “Throwing money” at the “workforce crisis” in UK film and TV will “exacerbate the problem” rather than solving it, according to the former boss of Amazon in Europe.

Georgia Brown, who now chairs the UK’s Screen Sectors Skills Task Force, delivered a passionate plea for the industry to take a holistic approach to resolving the “crisis” during an appearance in front of the UK’s British Film & High-End TV Inquiry this morning, which was titled “How can the UK film industry combat its workforce crisis?”

According to Brown, the industry is now comfortably meeting a BFI-set demand to spend 1% of production budgets, or £100M ($127M), on training, but that this spending is far too fragmented.

“We know we are collectively spending more than 1% but I will keep coming back to the fact that it’s not a money question,” she added. “Throwing more money won’t solve this, it will exacerbate the problem.

“I am stepping back as a judge into the ‘Drag Race Thailand’ universe after four years! It’s been way too long!” Heals said in a statement. “I’m just gagging in anticipation for the incredible queens we’re about to meet. With YouTube‘s NFL Sunday Ticket deal set to kick off in September, ESPN is making a big bet on a prominent football influencer. The Worldwide Leader in Sports has inked a partnership with Pat McAfee, the ex-NFL punter who now hosts an eponymous show that hits YouTube each weekday.

The Pat McAfee Show is co-hosted by McAfee and other former football pros, including A.J. Hawk and Darius Butler. With his bold attitude and sense of humor, McAfee has become a hit with sports fans on YouTube, reaching 2.2 million subscribers. His show has also been bolstered by Hawk’s longtime teammate Aaron Rodgers, who has made regular (and sometimes contentious) appearances on the show.

Some of the most iconic drag queens aren’t just about serving looks — they’re also serving… dinner on a new reality competition show! The results? They might have you gagging. On Monday, Rolling Stone premiered the trailer for Hulu’s Drag Me to Dinner, a new cooking competition show starring some of the world’s best and funniest drag queens, set to premiere on May 31.

Dinner will be served at the end of May, and it’s going to be a real drag.

Hulu has announced the start date for Drag Me To Dinner, a unscripted series described as “riotous, format-busting, fourth-wall-breaking, unapologetic sendup of traditional reality competition shows.” Premiering May 31, each episode will consist of two teams of successful drag queens going head-to-head to throw the most fabulous, awe-inspiring, drag-tastical dinner parties of all time.

The champion will be crowned by judges Neil Patrick Harris, drag superstar Bianca Del Rio, and Haneefah Wood. Murray Hill will host.

Each episode will have its own theme, as revealed by show producer David Burtka. Teams will focus on multiple criteria: food & drink, design & decor, and entertainment & overall vibe.

The top 4 heading into the finale were: Anetra, Luxx Noir London, Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Sasha Colby. This is the first time since Season 8 that the semifinalists are all queens of color: Anetra is Filipino, Puerto Rican, Japanese and German; Luxx is Black, Mistress is Mexican American, and Sasha Colby is Hawaiian.
