Chicago Pd star claims season 12 finale will impact "trust" between these two cops
Image
Chicago Pd has alternated, sometimes inconsistently, between its veteran characters and its new characters in season 12. There are pros and cons to both sides, but the last two episodes have done a surprisingly effective job at getting us reinvested in junior officers Kiana Cook (Toya Turner) and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar).

It's been a bit since they have gotten a chance to take center stage, and delve into their complicated relationship. Cook and Torres worked closely in the episode "Name Image Likeness," and the actress who plays the former, Toya Turner spoke with TV Line about the future of their partnership within the Iu. To the surprise of absolutely no one, it's going to be complicated.

Chicago Pd is recycling a season 12 storyline (but with a different character)
Image
Chicago Pd has been on NBC for over a decade, so there are bound to be some repeat stories. There is only so many ways that criminals can break the law, and so many ways the Iu can go bring them to justice. Based on the promo for season 12, Chicago Pd will be going back to the well when it comes to Ci's or Confidential Informants.

We already saw how things went when Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) dabbled in the world of utilizing moles for undercover information. The young officer struck up an affair with the Ci in season 11 and nearly lost his job in the season 12 episode "Penance." The affair also led to the death of the Ci in question, Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez).

Chicago Pd hints at devastating character death before Burzek's season finale wedding
Image
Chicago Pd has been building towards two separate conclusions in season 12. The first is positive: the wedding of Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati). The second? The end of the conflict between Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Chief Deputy Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy).

As we've noted several times on this site, Chicago Pd has leaned much further into the second story arc than it has the first. Much to the chagrin of Burzek fans. There is good news, however, and it has to do with the titles of the upcoming two-part finale. Season 12 will come to a close on May 21 with the episode "Vows," seemingly confirming the fact that we will be getting a big Burzek wedding.

Chicago Pd boss confirms "emotional fall out" for two of the show's best story arcs
Image
Chicago Pd has been occasionally frustrating in season 12. The show has introduced fascinating character arcs for several of its veteran presences, but the emphasis on case of the week stories has led to some of these arcs being pushed on to the back burner. There are times where the underlying feelings of the Iu members are not even referenced.

We do, somewhat, understand. There's been some excellent standalone stories in season 12, as well as a crossover event and an ongoing conflict with Chief Deputy Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy). We are excited to what happens with the villain, but we're relieved to have confirmation that the season 12 finale will place the emphasis on character over story.

Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 18 “Demons” Voight and Chapman Investigate Secret Dealings
Image
Chicago Pd spoilers and updates reveal what’s happening on the next episode, after the brief hiatus. The Wednesday night schedule had a short break on April 9, but that pause is over; Chicago P.D. is back with Season 12, Episode 18, this Wednesday evening.

New Episodes Of The Chicago Trilogy Pick Up On April 16

New episodes of Med, Fire, and P.D. are set to premiere on April 16. Each series has five remaining episodes this season, promising more captivating stories leading up to the Chicago P.D. season finale in May.

A central storyline in Season 12 of Chicago P.D. revolves around the arrival of Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy) and his influence on the Intelligence unit.

Reid is forming a bond with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), but he’s doing so with a strategic advantage. He is aware that Officer Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) is involved in a romantic relationship with his confidential informant,...

Voight hits a breaking point with this troubled cop in Chicago Pd promo
Image
Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) has not always been the best role model, but he's gotten better. The Iu veteran has tried to protect the members of his team, whether that means cutting corners or relying on blackmail to ensure they stay clean. He seemingly finds himself in a different situation in an upcoming Chicago Pd episode, however.

"Demons" sees Voight bump heads with Chief Deputy Reid (Shawn Hatosy) over a botched drug deal. The latter demands results, even though Voight is hesitant to return to his old, head-busting ways. It gets worse when Reid hones in on Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), and tells Voight to get the job done or he will have Torres do it instead.

Torres gets caught between Voight and Reid

Dante Torres will finally be important on Chicago Pd (but it might not be a good thing)
Image
We have been critical of Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) in the past. Well, we've been critical of the way Chicago Pd writers have used Torres. The character and the actor who plays him has a lot of potential, but it feels like the writers are still unsure of how to implement him in the show.

Torres will finally become a crucial player during the final leg of season 12, but it won't be for the reasons one might expect. The officer has been striving to prove himself a worthy member of the Iu, and has tried his hardest to move past his professional mistakes. Well, that is not going to happen. Instead, Torres will become more important because of his mistakes.

Hailey Upton would have been perfect in this Chicago Pd season 12 storyline
Image
Chicago Pd has been playing the long game in season 12. There have been individualized episodes, as always, but the overarching storyline has set up a huge conflict between Chief Deputy Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy) and Hank Voight (Jason Beghe).

The latter has effectively been forced to do battle with a mirror version of himself for the future of the Iu. It's not looking good, given Reid's authority and the fact that he knows how Voight thinks because he thinks basically the same way. It's a great set up, but one that would have benefited exponentially from the involvement of Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).

Upton's dark past would've come to light Chicago P.D. -- "The Living and The Dead" Episode 11007 -- Pictured: Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton -- (Photo by: Lori Allen/NBC)

Upton left in season 11, but there are several reasons why should have elevated the conflict between Reid and Voight.

Gloria Perez
Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 15: Voight’s in trouble
Gloria Perez
The new Chicago P.D. episode hints that Hank Voight is in hot water now that Deputy Chief Reid has something on him.

Voight covered for his team, and Reid figured it out, thus putting Voight in danger if his boss ever calls in a favor.

This goes back to the episodes from last year where Officer Dante Torres developed feelings for his Criminal Informant, Gloria Perez.

Gloria was the wife of a drug boss in Chicago, and actress Yara Martinez played the part.

While Intelligence was investigating her husband, Torres became involved in a relationship with her. He even covered for her when she shot and killed her husband.

The storyline continued this season when Detective Kim Burgess covered for Torres.

Somehow, Reid found out about everything. He slyly made Voight aware that he knew of the deception, thus putting Voight in a precarious spot to protect his team.

What Happened to Gloria Perez in Chicago P.D.?
Image
Since its 2014 debut, Chicago P.D.has been both praised and ridiculed for its devotion to “old-school” cop show tropes. Its mix of action and character development has charmed its respectable fanbase, and its innate star power helped it grow. Aside from its talented cast, NBC’s procedural darling also boasts writing from Law & Order’s Dick Wolf.

Of course, as a procedural, nobody is “safe.” Chicago P.D.’s characters are in constant danger. They face down the city’s most ruthless criminals and often sacrifice their own comfort to protect the public. By extension, the show’s cast lineup is always evolving.

In fact, the show had already lost some stars by the end of its first episode. Scott Eastwood famously leftChicago P.D. to focus on feature films. One of its stars, Melissa Sagemiller, walked away before filming began. More recently, in 2023, Halstead’s actress, Tracy Spiridakos, announced her departure.

This Chicago Pd character's secret led to the tragic death of a friend
Image
Chicago Pd has never a feel good show. It's grim, violent, and often ends on tragic notes. Season 12 has given fans some of the bleakest storylines yet, and the trend continued with "Street Jesus." The episode was a showcase for Kevin Atwater (Laroyce Hawkins), who tried to juggle a murder case with a desire to protect his longtime friend.

It did not work out. Atwater was shaken by the fact that a murder was committed in the same area in which he planned to launch a community center. It got worse when he realized that his friend, Marcus "Hype" Daniels, was involved in the murder. More, you ask? Well, Hype was also helping Atwater with the construction of the community center, meaning they were very closely intertwined.

One Chicago crossover proves Pd doesn't know what to do with this character
Image
Chicago Pd had an excellent showing in the One Chicago crossover. Characters like Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) got plenty chance to shine. We even got some a subplot involving Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).

The three-part event did an excellent job of incorporating the police drama into a larger framework. One character, however, seemed out of place. Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), the officer who arguably spearheaded Pd's fall finale, was barely a factor in the crossover event.

Torres had nothing to do during the crossover Chicago P.D. -- "The Good Shepherd" Episode 12012 -- Pictured: Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Dante Torres -- (Photo by: Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

"A Lot of Repercussions for Him": Showrunner Gwen Sigan Talks How Torres Will Approach Gloria's Death In 'Chicago P.D.' Season 12
Image
The Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of Chicago P.D. has returned from its Season 12 midseason break and the team is still reeling from the challenges faced. Dante Torres' (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) was well in the eye of the storm as his secret and inappropriate affair with Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez) in Chicago P.D. Season 11 came to light. While the storm eventually passed, it didn't ease calmly as Torres held Gloria in his arms while she bled out. Having come on board in Season 9, Aguilar's Torres is a street-smart officer blessed with a quiet demeanor. However, his demeanor is set to hide a significant amount of emotional pain in the second half of the current season.

"He Wants to Use Everybody": 'Chicago P.D.' Showrunner Teases Deputy Chief Reid's Motives
Image
The Intelligence Unit of Chicago P.D. is no stranger to individuals in positions of power trying to stifle the work they do. More often than not, Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his closely-knit team of officers usually emerge unscathed. The unit, in recent times, were once more in the eye of the storm with Dante Torres' (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) secret and inappropriate affair with Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez) in the Season 12 midseason finale. Sniffing around was Deputy Chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy), while he had recently proclaimed to be a friend of the team. His recent comments have confirmed that those words were only a lie.

"Not Good": Showrunner Gwen Sigan Talks Torres' Reaction to the Gloria Scandal in 'Chicago P.D.' Season 11
Image
Finales tend to have you all pumped up for when the show kicks off again. The Chicago P.D. Season 12 midseason finale did exactly that as it saw the Intelligence Unit under fire because of a mistake made by one of its members. By the time the episode had ended, everyone knew about Dante Torres' (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) secret and inappropriate affair with Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez) in Chicago P.D. Season 11. While the affair coming out was bad for his career, worse was the fact that he keeping it secret endangered the life of Officer Kiana Cook's (Toya Turner). While Cook and the unit survived, Torres' actions most certainly have left a mark on everyone involved.

4 most surprising Chicago Pd decisions made in season 12 (so far)
Image
Chicago Pd has lost some major players over the last few seasons. It hasn't been easy for the writers, the fans, or the remaining cast members. That said, the show is still going strong. The new characters that have come in have done a great job, and the veterans continue to compel with their layered and lived-in performances.

We had Chicago Pd bringing up the rear in terms of which One Chicago winter premiere we were most eager to watch, but that doesn't mean there haven't been exciting developments throughout the first half of season 12. In fact, we've compiled a list of them below.

One Chicago deaths that absolutely shocked us in 2024
Image
One Chicago is always good for a surprising death or two. The franchise traffics in very intense settings, whether it be a police station, a hospital or a firehouse, so there are bound to be instances in which characters put their life on the line. It comes with the job description.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago Pd have given fans shocking deaths throughout the years, but 2024 was different. None of the main characters from these shows died, but they were seriously impacted by the deaths that occured around them. As such, we decided to look back at the ones that had the biggest impact in 2024 (which means the tail end of the previous season and the first half of the current season!).

Chicago Pd stars weigh in on possibility of a Torres and Cook romance
Image
Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) did not have the easiest fall finale on Chicago Pd. The character's past mistakes caught up with him, and his attempt to control the damage basically put the entire Iu at risk. In the case of Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), Torres even put the lives of his peers at risk.

Fortunately, the character was able to escape and keep his life and job intact. The woman he had previously romanced died, but as we previously stated, that was an inevitable resolution. Torres is now single and hopefully on a more straight and narrow path.

One Chicago's Fall Finales All Did The Same Story But In 3 Different Ways
Image
The fall finales of the One Chicago franchise all focus on characters who consider themselves outsiders. Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) in Chicago Med, Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) and paramedic Lizzie Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) in Chicago Fire, and Officer Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) in Chicago P.D. all encounter a common issue when it comes to balancing personal dilemmas and their work. These characters are morally conflicted because they struggle to distinguish between their past struggles and current occupations.

Dr. Archer has led the Ed for the past few years after working in the Navy. Pascal is the new Chief of Firehouse 51 after working as Chief in a Miami firehouse, while Novak has floated around firehouses before joining 51. Torres works with the Intelligence Unit but has a criminal past. In their respective One Chicago finales, they are all forced to question whether they can belong and work with...

Chicago Pd has been hiding its main season 12 villain in plain sight
Image
Chicago Pd is a case of the week show by and large. Likes its One Chicago peers, though, Med and Fire, the show does typically set up a few plot points that take longer to resolve. A case that spans a few different episodes. A decision by a character that takes weeks to make. Or a villain that takes an entire season to vanquish.

Chicago Pd has some of the best villains in the entire One Chicago franchise. It helps that the show deals with the most sordid subject matter, meaning villains can be as gnarly and cunning as one can possibly imagine. And we're excited to confirm that the next major Pd villain is someone you already know well.

Chicago Pd's fall finale death was tragic but necessary (and here's why)
Image
Chicago Pd went out with a bang for its fall finale. The season 12 episode "Penance" saw the resolution of a Dante Torres arc that established in season 11, and was left curiously open ended. It was nice to see the arc come back into play, even if the results were tragic and potentially damaging to the Iu in the long term.

Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) put his life and his career on the line when he struck up a romance with informant Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez). It was a situation that the young officer narrowly got away with in season 11, but when Perez returned for the fall finale, it was clear that he would not get lucky twice.

Chicago Pd star reveals Torres could 'go to prison' or 'die' in tense fall finale

Dante Torres cannot catch a break. He was introduced as the heir apparent to Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), but he has proven to be anything but. Both men display bravery in the field, but Halstead tried to play things by the book, whereas Torres has gotten into one morally complicated mess after another.

The biggest mistake of Torres' career, thus far, has been starting up an affair with informant Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez). The season 11 arc came and went, sparing the rookie cop of an ugly fate, but Gloria is back just in time for the fall finale, and it does not bode well for Torres' future with the Iu. Gloria Perez
Chicago P.D. fall finale TV promo and episode synopsis
Gloria Perez
The Chicago P.D. fall finale is upon us. Though it may seem like the season just started, it’s time for the long winter hiatus.

The writers brought back Gloria Perez, the former wife of notorious drug lord Rafael Perez. She also killed Rafael while serving as an informant for Intelligence.

Actress Yara Martinez plays Gloria and guest-starred on the November 13 episode. It complicated things for Office Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) because they struck up a relationship.

Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) has also been caught up in events, as she covered for Torres and never reported what he did.

Now, it looks like Gloria is the new drug kingpin in Chicago. She stepped into the vacancy caused by her former husband’s death.

Officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner) is now Mia after a bust went south. Gloria appeared to figure out that Cook was undercover to bust her.

Jason Beghe, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, and LaRoyce Hawkins in Chicago P.D. (2014)
Chicago P.D. fans were worried about Kim Burgess during and after the latest episode. Many folks began searching to find out if she was leaving.

Officer Kim Burgess has been working with Intelligence for nearly 12 years. She began by helping them with cases as an officer but was later invited to become an integral part of the Intelligence team.

During Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 6, Burgess was tested to become a detective, but she had to jump through many hoops.

Detective Suarez (played by Elizabeth Rodriguez) was assigned to shadow her, with Deputy Chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy) asking for constant updates.

Burgess and Suarez solved the case they were investigating, and Burgess was promoted to detective.

Suarez felt Burgess should be moved away from Intelligence, but Reid stepped in and placed Burgess back with Intelligence. Many questions about that situation are lingering.

Gloria Perez returns to Chicago P.D.; Burgess...

Chicago P.D. returned with a creepy case, Upton in charge of Intelligence, and a Petrovic cover-up
Image
The Chicago P.D. hiatus ended with a new episode on Wednesday night.

When we last saw the show, Dante Torres was finishing up an undercover case to bring down a drug boss, Rafel Perez (Julio Cedillo).

During that case, Torres became romantically involved with the wife of Rafel Perez, Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez).

In a dramatic conclusion, Gloria killed Rafel. Rather than run, she told Torres she was remaining in Chicago. It could mean the story circles back later.

Also, earlier this season, the Chicago P.D. cast added actress Bojana Novakovic as Detective Josephine Petrovic. The quirky detective helped Intelligence on several cases, but Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) became suspicious of her and discovered a drinking problem.

A serial killer also remained on the loose, but this new episode was focused on a separate case.

Chicago P.D. recap: Can Torres save Gloria Perez? Can he even save himself?
Image
The new episode of Chicago P.D. returned viewers to the undercover operation Dante Torres has been working on.

It was revealed that Torres had been undercover for 36 days when the episode began. He was trying to take down the Rafael Perez drug ring (played by Julio Cesar Cedillo).

Torres was already getting too deep and had been sleeping with his informant. Actress Yara Martinez was back to continue her role as Gloria Perez (wife of the drug boss).

Rather than getting closer to answers, Torres had been relegated to working as a mechanic for the drug ring. But since the episode was focusing on him, it was clear something was about to happen.

The worse Perez treated Gloria, the more time she wanted to spend with Torres. It led to even more complications with the case.

Meanwhile, Torres spotted that a cousin to Perez was who he was leaning on...

Chicago P.D. promo for the new episode features Torres return and Gloria Perez drama
Gloria Perez
Chicago P.D. is finally circling back to the Gloria Perez case.

This means Officer Dante Torres will be the member of Intelligence that the next new episode focuses on.

As Chicago P.D. fans have noticed, the show shifts between characters now, with singular episodes focusing on a character rather than the team.

This shift in presentation continues with a new episode called Somos Uno, where viewers learn what Torres (played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar) has been up to while undercover.

The Chicago P.D. cast introduced Yara Martinez as Gloria Perez earlier this season.

Perez became an informant for Torres as Intelligence worked to take down a drug ring. Things got messy at the end of that episode when Perez and Torres became intimate during the case.

'Chicago P.D.' Season 11 Teaser Revisits Torres' Career-Ending Decision
Image
There are some things you should not do: like running into oncoming traffic or drinking poison. Yet, sometimes we make choices we know can not be good for ourselves. On one cold Chicago night, Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) made the mistake of beginning a sexual relationship with a confidential informant. Chicago P.D. Season 11 circles back to this storyline in the upcoming episode. Episode 9 "Somos Uno" will be a Torres-centric hour as teased by the episode's promo and if hooking up with Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez) was bad, this time Torres is in even more danger because he has developed feelings.

Chicago P.D. cast: Who plays Gloria Perez?
Image
Chicago P.D. has added a notable new character for the upcoming episode, Escape.

In addition to Officer Dante Torres (played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar) finally getting screen time, several new characters get introduced on February 7.

As advertised in the new Chicago P.D. episode promo, Intelligence aims to take down the city’s biggest drug lord.

Torres must go undercover during the new episode to get more information, allowing the writers to showcase the character again.

For the first three episodes of Chicago P.D. Season 11, Torres has been furloughed to spend time with his mother.

Now, Torres returns for a case that could take a few episodes to resolve.

Who plays Gloria Perez on Chicago P.D.?

Actress Yara Martinez has been called on to play the role of Gloria Perez on the February 7 Chicago P.D. episode.

She is featured in many episode images that have been released, as well as the television promo running on NBC.

Chicago P.D. promo highlights Torres return in new episode

A new Chicago P.D. episode is finally going to feature Officer Dante Torres.

The energetic Intelligence member had been furloughed to open the season, with the writers explaining that Torres was with his mom.

His absence was glaring, especially since the team still misses Detective Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer).

Actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar joined the Chicago P.D. cast while Halstead was still around, but he became integral in Halstead’s absence during Season 10.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 began without Torres, as the writers focused on other characters to carry the stories.

The Chicago P.D. season premiere focused on Detective Hailey Upton, the second episode was about Officer Adam Ruzek and his struggles to return to work, and the January 31 episode featured Office Kim Burgess.

Now it’s finally Torres time.

We are two episodes into Season 11 of Chicago P.D., and Officer Dante Torres has not appeared.

The Intelligence team member joined the show to replace Detective Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer).

Torres was brought in by Halstead to help the team but ended up taking the open slot, thanks to Hank Voight (Jason Beghe).

Actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar works well on the show and brings something fresh to a group that has been together for years.

But Chicago P.D. fans have many questions after his character vanished for the first two episodes of Season 11.

A throwaway line at the beginning of the season premiere revealed that Torres was furloughed to spend time with his mom.

When does Torres return to Chicago P.D.?

Fans hoping for Officer Dante Torres’s return now have an answer from Benjamin Levy Aguilar.
