Community's Long-Gestating Movie Gets Concerning Update From Alison Brie
Image
Plans to bring the Community gang back together for a reunion movie have been on the table for years, but the project has yet to officially set a production start date. Star Alison Brie has commented on the current status of the film, but it's a disappointing update for fans.

Brie addressed the film while at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her new movie, Together, via ScreenRant. When asked about an update on Community: The Movie, Brie said there was nothing whatsoever new to report. She then shared that the project is "sort of paused," still with no concrete plans to actually start filming.

"I truly have nothing to say about the Community movie," Brie stated. "It's sort of paused, and we're all -- I know the cast is really rooting for it. We all love each other so much and would love to get back on set someday."

The Simpsons Just Trolled Marvel While Teasing A Shockingly Great Cameo Episode
Image
ScreenRant's Zachary Brandon attended The Simpsons panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where the long-running animated series teased a star-filled episode in its upcoming season 37 while also taking a dig at Marvel. The panelists all entered Ballroom 20 dressed as Doctor Doom, in cheeky reference to last year's Marvel panel, which revealed Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as the villain.

During the panel, The Simpsons writer Matt Selman teased one episode will have cameos from Glenn Howerton, Danny Pudi, Adam Pally, Albert Brooks, Cole Escola, Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson at the same time. Another episode will feature Kieran Culkin in a "juicy role."

The Simpsons Teases Exciting "Top Secret" Plan For Its Historic 800th Episode
Image
ScreenRant's own Brandon Zachary attended the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con panel for The Simpsons and revealed the series has something special planned for episode 800. The Simpsons is already the longest-running animated American TV series, but episode 800 will mark a major milestone for the show.

The Sdcc panel for The Simpsons included the show's creative team of Matt Groening, Matt Faughnan, Mike Price, and David Silverman. The creative team gave the audience confirmation that, with the current schedule for the series, The Simpsons will air episode 800 in February of 2026.

Episode 800 will also not air alone. On the night it airs in February, two episodes of The Simpsons will actually be broadcast instead. Just what is being planned for the episode, however, is "top secret" for now.

Alison Brie Shares ‘Community’ Movie Update & Pitch For “X-Rated” Version
Image
After six seasons and movie, two Community characters might finally seal the deal if Alison Brie has her way.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently revealed her hopes for her character Annie Edison in the long-awaited feature adaptation of the NBC/Yahoo series, while sharing an update on the production schedule.

“There’s no update,” she told husband and Together co-star Dave Franco in a sit-down for Entertainment Tonight. “I would say it’s paused due to a number of factors. The entire cast is still enthusiastically on board to do the movie.”

Brie added, “Something I would love to see for Annie is full sex with Jeff Winger. You know, I think an X-rated Community movie would consummate that ‘will they, won’t they.'”

10 Years Later and I Still Miss These 20 Things About ‘Community’
Image
It’s been over a decade since Community first graced our screens, and honestly, we’re still not over it. Dan Harmon‘s meta-textual masterpiece about a ragtag study group at Greendale Community College didn’t just break the fourth wall; it completely demolished it, creating something that was equal parts sitcom, cultural commentary, and love letter to everything we geek out about.

While streaming platforms keep introducing new fans to Jeff Winger’s crew, those of us who lived through the original run can’t help but get nostalgic for what made this show absolutely magical.

Let’s be real, nothing could have prepared us for “Modern Warfare.” One minute we’re watching a typical community college sitcom, and the next we’re in the middle of a full-blown action movie parody that somehow managed to have genuine emotional stakes.

Top 10 Most Underrated Sitcom Actors That Deserve a Spinoff Like Kevin Sussman
Image
It’s quite often when a certain character in a TV or movie steals the show despite limited screen time, leaving the audience craving for more of them. These characters are often categorized as the best friend, oddball coworker, or even an eccentric neighbour, and they are the ones to land most unexpected laughs. One such intriguing character has been Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom from the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, and his rise from recurring character to leading his own spinoff.

Many sitcoms are filled with such scene-stealing characters who deserve more recognition, and maybe even their own show. Here is a look at the top 10 most underrated sitcom actors who, like Sussman, have what it takes to lead a spinoff and really hog the spotlight.

Dan Harmon Turned Chevy Chase’s Bad Behavior Into ‘Community’ Gold
Image
Joel McHale chalks up the hilarity of Community to the relentlessness of creator Dan Harmon and directors Joe and Anthony Russo. “I’m so fortunate that that was the spearhead that was fighting for this comedy,” McHale recently told Collider. “I look at comedy now, or when I do it now, I remember Joe and Anthony would always go, ‘Cut. Do it faster. Cut. Do it faster. Cut. Do it faster.’”

“There were so many good jokes,” McHale said. “There were so many jokes flying that it was great, because it taught me to throw away jokes. ‘Don’t be too married to a joke or two.’ But it taught me to say them and say them fast.”

The dark side of the “million takes” that Community’s creators demanded? It made for awfully long work days, and not everyone was thrilled about the extra time commitment. “The hours were bananas,...

Joel McHale Shares a Message About ’Community’s Most Difficult Star, 81: “Meet Most of Your Heroes” [Exclusive]
Image
The cult classic comedy show Communitygave a lot to fans. We had Troy and Abed in the Morning, that Glee-inspired episode, and Donald Glover crying over LeVar Burton. And that's just to name a few of the show's iconic moments. One less cheery aspect of the series, however, was Chevy Chase being a little too much like the curmudgeonly character he was playing and causing trouble behind the scenes. Chase, who had a reputation for being difficult on set, left the show in Season 4. In a lengthy profile interview with Collider's Tania Hussain, star Joel McHalespoke about the series and talked about his past love of Chase and how it related to the concept of "never meeting your heroes."

McHale has spoken openly in the past about Chase and told Hussain that part of the issue was the hours. Filming Community brought with it a lot of hours...

6 Years Later, All Seasons of This 88% Rotten Tomatoes Cult Comedy Are Arriving on a New Streaming Platform
Image
If you are a Community fan and own a Hulu subscription, next month will be a great one for you. This week, the streaming platform announced that all seasons of the cult comedy are being added to the library, and you can start binging as early as July 3. In case you missed the series, this is the perfect chance to find out why it became such a high-rated show back when it started airing in 2009. The entire story has six seasons – and a movie that has been in the works for a decade.

One of the reasons why Community became as popular as it did is because pretty much every episode contains a ton of references to other shows and movies. It could go as big as referencing Batman movies but also use some lesser-known references to inspire an entire episode, like the one built around the 1981 cult comedy My Dinner With Andre.

“It’s Absolutely Bananas”: ‘Fubar’ Star Says This Cult Classic Comedy Web Series Is His Favorite Role of All Time
Image
Before joining Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro's team in the hit action comedy Fubar on Netflix, Travis Van Winkle put together quite a resume as an actor. Between the Penn Badgley-led You, Michael Bay's Transformers, and the 2009 Friday the 13th remake, among other things, he's been in a wide variety of projects across the big and small screen that demonstrate his range. Last year also brought him out to the Florida Keys to join Jake Gyllenhaal in the Road House remake for Prime Video. However, of all the roles he's gotten to play since his career began, there's still one that just barely edges out the rest in mind, and it comes from a little free-to-watch cult classic time travel web series satirizing 80s cop shows — Squad 85.

Van Winkle appeared in the latest episode of Screen Rant's Debunking AI series, where he was presented with the AI's...

The Community Character You Probably Forgot Jack Black Played
Image
The first half of "Community" season 1 was all about the show finding its balance. It constantly tested different character dynamics to see what worked best before eventually striking gold with Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi). By the time the first "Community" Halloween episode came along, it seemed like the show had fully hit its groove. The study group was now a perfectly tight-knit, codependent body with a comfortable repertoire the series' writers could always rely on. Maybe that's why, when season 1 returned from winter break with "Investigative Journalism," the writers decided to throw a massive wrench into the study group's dynamics and see what happened. That wrench was, of course, Jack Black.

Black's character was named Buddy (no last name given), and his main thing was that he was annoying. He spent the episode trying and failing to become a part of the group, incapable of picking up...

Comedy Stars From ‘Animal Control,’ ‘Going Dutch,’ ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ and More Bring the Laughs to Variety’s FYC TV Fest

Meet the Makers: Going Dutch and Animal Control

There are plenty of similarities to be found between Fox’s two live-action comedies, Joel McHale’s “Animal Control” and Denis Leary’s “Going Dutch.” Both are single-camera workplace comedies with characters in uniform: A quirky group of animal control workers in Seattle on “Animal Control,” and a quirky group of U.S. Army soldiers stationed on a tiny Netherlands base on “Going Dutch.” Making things even more personal, McHale’s “Community” co-star Danny Pudi now stars opposite Leary on “Going Dutch.”

So how about a crossover inside the Fox comedyverse? “It makes perfect sense,” Leary said during the Variety FYC TV Fest. “The guys who are the creators of ‘Animal Control’ are guys I’ve worked with before. Great writers. And we actually discussed it at some point last year. So let’s talk Fox into it. But Fox hasn’t mentioned it.

Latest Joel McHale update could impact the Community movie on Peacock
Image
Six seasons and a movie is all us Community fans have been asking for and wanting. We've got the six seasons, though we're still eagerly waiting for the reunion film that's sure to be a hit at Peacock. Since September 2022 when news was confirmed that the Community movie was happening, we've been wondering not just when it'll be released, but when filming would actually start. Now with one of the star's current shows getting picked up, this could be bad news for the project.

Joel McHale who played Jeff Winger currently stars in the comedy series Animal Control on Fox. The third season finished airing recently, and the show has now been picked up and renewed for a season 4, per TVLine. This of course makes us happy for the actor. We love to see them all succeed! But, the renewal news does have us thinking about Community: The Movie and McHale's upcoming availability.

Going Dutch: Season Two; Military Comedy Renewed by Fox for 2025-26
Colonel Quinn is staying put for the 2025-26 TV season. Fox has renewed Going Dutch for a second season. The sitcom's first season of 10 episodes finished airing in March.

A military comedy series, the Going Dutch TV show stars Denis Leary, Taylor Misiak, Danny Pudi, Laci Mosley, and Hal Cumpston, with Dempsey Bryk, Joe Morton, and Catherine Tate in recurring roles. The story follows arrogant, loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel Patrick Quinn (Leary), reassigned to the Netherlands after an epically unfiltered rant. There, he is punished with a command position at the world's least strategically significant army base. It’s notable for its Michelin Star-commissary, top-notch bowling alley, lavender-infused laundry, and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Armed Forces. Surrounded by a diverse group of military misfits, the colonel tries to reinstate discipline and professionalism with the...

Fox is bringing back both Animal Control and Going Dutch for the 2025-2026 primetime season. The network confirmed they’ve renewed Animal Control starring Joel McHale for season four, and Going Dutch with Denis Leary will return for season two.

“Animal Control and Going Dutch are proven winners thanks to signature Fox characters brought to life by Joel and Denis — two of the funniest comedic voices on TV today, giving us an ideal foundation for building our new comedy block,” stated Michael Thorn, President, Fox Television Network. “With a focus on creating irreverent, fun workplace humor that’s both outrageous and unpredictable, Joel, Denis, their castmates, and production teams deliver reliably laugh-out-loud moments week after week that will keep fans coming back season after season.”

After Canceling 1 New Drama Series, Fox Renews 2 Popular Comedy Shows
Image
Two shows have been guaranteed to continue on Fox while another wasn't so lucky. Unfortunately for the latter, it's going to be a one-season run.

Per Deadline, Rescue Hi-Surf has been canceled after one season. The show, which follows Hawaiian lifeguards, wrapped up its first season on March 31. As the show was not a breakout success on the level of Doc, which was renewed for a 22-episode second season, the decision was made not to move forward with a second season.

It's an unfortunate update for fans of the show, especially as it debuted strong with a premiere that pulled in 4.7 million Live+Same Day viewers. According to the new report, there had still been consideration to renew the series, in part due to the involvement of producer John Wells. The producer's previous work includes titles like ER, The West Wing, and The Pitt. However, the series was also expensive...

The Fate of Denis Leary's 'Going Dutch' Has Been Decided by Fox
Image
Going Dutch is returning for a second tour of duty. The freshman Fox sitcom has been renewed for a second season at the network. Deadline reports that both Going Dutch and its network stablemate, Animal Control, will be returning next season. The series' first season is now streaming on Hulu.

Deadline reports that although the Denis Leary-led series' ratings were not spectacular, the fact that the series is produced and owned by Fox may have played a part in the network's decision. Fox is also selling the series internationally; unlike many sitcoms, it is an international production, with a military base in Ireland standing in for Garrison Stroopsdorf, the fictional US Army base in Holland that serves as the show's primary setting. Additionally, Going Dutch and Animal Control are the only live-action sitcoms currently on Fox. This may also mean that Fox may not order any new half-hour comedies for the upcoming TV season.

‘Animal Control’ & ‘Going Dutch’ Renewed At Fox
Image
Fox is sticking with laughs. The network has renewed its two live-action comedy series Animal Control and Going Dutch.

Animal Control, which stars Joel McHale, is returning for a fourth season, while Going Dutch starring Denis Leary returns for its second. Both single-camera shows, which are owned by Fox, will return in the 2025-26 season.

The renewal of Animal Control is not a surprise; the show remains Fox’s live-action comedy flagship and was the network’s first fully owned live-action series to break out. In addition, it has sold the show in more 70 international territories including in the UK to Channel 4, in Australia to Foxtel and Binge, in Canada to CBC and in New Zealand to Tvnz.

The network said that with in-season streaming on Hulu, it more than doubles its Live+Same Day ratings.

10 Worst Cameos In Marvel Movies & TV Shows
Image
Marvel Studios ruled the cinematic landscape from 2008 until around 2019, thanks in no small part to the novelty of its shared universe, a concept every film studio tried and failed to mimic. Beginning with Jon Favreau's "Iron Man," the Marvel Cinematic Universe successfully propelled popular heroes and villains to the big screen, culminating with enormous blockbuster events in the form of "Avengers" movies, not to mention standout hits like Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther" and Jon Watts' "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

More impressively, the MCU made frequent use of the ultimate gimmick: cameos, often arising during mid-credit scenes, which usually introduced or teased new characters like Thanos (Josh Brolin) and the Collector (Benicio del Toro), who would often go on to play vital roles in later pictures. In fact, one could argue the MCU took off due to Samuel L. Jackson's surprising appearance as Nick Fury in "Iron Man.

All The Community Paintball Episodes, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
"Community" was always a great show, but the moment it elevated to god-tier status was when it introduced the concept of a Paintball Episode (an idea that, sadly, the "Community" movie will not revisit when/if it comes to pass). That's when an otherwise-normal sitcom suddenly has its characters start shooting at each other with paintball guns, complete with genuinely impressive action cinematography. Why doesn't every sitcom do stuff like this? Because they lack the audacity.

"Community" would do three more paintball episodes throughout its run, all of them featuring at least one moment that's so cool it'll make you forgive the show for any of its other faults. Are you mad at how the series dragged out the romance between Jeff (Joel McHale) and Annie (Alison Brie) for six seasons? Well, at least the scene where the Dean (Jim Rash) recreates the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" elevator fight...

Mythic Quest canceled; creators promise new version of finale for fans this week
Image
Mythic Quest, the Apple TV+ series partly created by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, is officially ending its journey, as the show will end after its fourth season. However, even though the series itself will done, the creators are going to ensure that the loyal fans will get a nice surprise that will give the show the send-off they deserve.

The fourth season of Mythic Quest just concluded last month. Yet, the finale, “Heaven and Hell” wasn’t meant to be a series finale. Thus, a revised version set to air this week will serve as a true conclusion.

A joint statement was issued by McElhenney, Mythic Quest co-creator Megan Ganz and EP/co-star David Hornsby. “Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We’re so proud of the show and the world we got...

“I thought that was really funny”: Rob McElhenney’s ‘Mythic Quest’ Is Cancelled, but His Real Legacy Was Making Gaming Devs Furious
Image
Mythic Quest is logging off for good. The chaotic, code-crashing comedy from Rob McElhenney has officially been cancelled. But let’s face it: the biggest plot twist wasn’t in the show. It was the behind-the-scenes rage from actual game devs.

Turns out, while we were laughing at broken builds and ego clashes, some real-world developers were grinding their teeth. McElhenney might’ve wrapped up his pixelated sitcom, but his legacy’s stirring the pot in the gaming industry like a troll in a dev forum.

Mythic Quest is officially game over. Rob McElhenney’s Apple TV+ workplace comedy has been cancelled, and while fans are mourning, game devs are still a little salty.

'Mythic Quest' Gets Canceled, but There's Good News
Image
It's always a little awkward when you tell someone about a celebrity's death and that person has never heard of them to begin with. It's the same way with TV shows. "Have you heard that Swagger was canceled? "No, I haven't heard of Swagger to begin with." That's often the case with Apple TV+ shows, which are some of the most wonderfully produced and star-studded series since the days of streaming began. The problem is, most people have never heard of them, give or take Ted Lasso and Severance. Well, if you haven't heard of Mythic Quest, it's a delightful show, and you should watch it, though it's a little too late now. The series, which recently ended its fourth season (and a brief anthologized spin-off), has been canceled.

Created by three of the very funny minds behind It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mythic Quest had a lot of people rooting for it.

“Mythic Quest” has been canceled after four seasons at Apple TV+, but the workplace comedy is not gone for good just yet, TheWrap has learned.

This Stand-Up Star Says He Was Runner-Up to Play Abed on ‘Community’
Image
Having the chance to get in on the ground floor of one of the most unique and cult-beloved sitcoms of the 21st century sure would have been cool. Cool, cool, cool.

Despite the sad fact that neither he nor Community ever got their flowers from mainstream America during the show’s initial run, Chicago-born actor and director Danny Pudi’s performance as Abed Nadir, the idiosyncratic, pop-culture-obsessed, fourth-wall-breaking brainiac of the greatest study group in sitcom history, is one of those iconic acting roles that becomes inseparable from the artist who nailed it. Just as no one else could have possibly been as perfect a fit for Frasier Crane as Kelsey Grammer and only Larry David could play Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Pudi’s portrayal of Abed is what made the character such an impactful part of Community’s legacy.

However, similar to how Bob Odenkirk came close...

Six seasons, a movie, and a limited series? Joel McHale 'game' for more Community
Image
Six seasons and a movie may not be enough for Community fans or Joel McHale!

When it comes to cult comedies, Community is in a class all by itself. Premiering on NBC in 2009, the Dan Harmon-created comedy at first looked like a simple sitcom premise. Jeff (Joel McHale) is a lawyer who loses his job when it's discovered his degree doesn't count. He thus enrolls in Greendale Community College to earn a real degree.

Joel forms a study group of quirky students, played by Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, and Donald Glover. Ken Jeong and Jim Rash also star.

While the show had humor from the start, it would soon evolve into one of the wilder comedies on television. Every character was made into an offbeat individual, with episodes playing as mockumentaries, parodies/homages to famous movies and TV shows, and unpredictable stories...

'I'm Game': Joel McHale Teases Community Continuing Beyond the Upcoming Movie
Image
Community fans keep waiting for the beloved sitcom to honor its "six seasons and a movie" promise as the long-gestating film adaptation remains on standby. However, when the film finally makes its Peacock debut, Joel McHale says he and his cast mates are "game" for continuing the franchise.

Speaking with Screen Rant, McHale teased the possibility of the Community series making a comeback once the anticipated movie is released. "I think there are some of us that would love to keep going, and I would be like, 'Great, if you guys want to do episodes, let us know,'" he said. "I think that'll probably depend on the success of a movie, but I think if there's enough of a demand to do more. I don't know what it would look like, but obviously the movie would have to inform a lot of that."

McHale says he and the rest...

Fans Have Been Sleeping on This 83% Fresh New Sitcom (& It's Perfect for Denis Leary Fans)
Image
Sitcoms have a harder time than ever to really catch on to what the public wants. It's sort of a genre stable that viewers need a few seasons to get to know the characters and storylines they'll be enjoying. Unfortunately, the market is so competitive today that it's almost impossible for many new sitcoms to survive past one season. Many fresh and hilarious comedy shows have fallen by the wayside only because of low viewership, leading to a show's eventual premature cancelation. On top of that, no other sitcoms have it harder than the ones on network television, such as Fox's brand-new sitcom Going Dutch.

Going Dutch was created by Joel Church-Cooper and stars Denis Leary alongside a massive cast of hilarious characters in a show that seemingly fits Leary's charismatic and brash personality to a T. The show premiered right after the New Year on January 2, 2025, and was met with positive reviews.

American Dreamer (2022)
New On Digital: American Dreamer, Starring Dinklage And MacLaine
American Dreamer (2022)
Plaion Pictures has announced that American Dreamer, a new dark comedy starring Peter Dinklage as a new homeowner who gets more than he bargained for, is now available on digital. Dinklage plays Dr. Phil Loder, a low-level economics professor who has always wanted to own a home yet has never been able to afford it. That changes when he runs into a childless old widow, played by Shirley MacLaine, who is willing to sell him her entire mansion for practically nothing. It’s amazing! It’s a dream come true! Wait…is there any catch to this? Almost assuredly, but that’s something Phil will have to find out for himself. It feels like it’s been a While since I’ve seen MacLaine show up in anything. Thirty years ago she was so culturally relevant that parodies of her were always appearing in the cartoons I watched, with her...

Taylor Misiak Has Become Well Versed in Denis Leary Lore
Image
Last month, The New Yorker published Dexter Filkins’ exhaustive article on “The U.S. Military’s Recruiting Crisis.” It seems the titular failure to enlist new recruits in sufficient numbers has compromised our readiness to defend the country in the event of an actual war, never mind fulfill promises past administrations have made to the governments of other nations.

Maybe that problem would be solved if troops could be posted at Stroopsdorf, the U.S. service base that provides the setting for Going Dutch. Stroopsdorf doesn’t have: strict requirements on fitness or hair length. Any apparent need to use a tower that’s been colonized by local wildlife. Guns. Stroopsdorf does have: bowling. Laundry. Cheeseworks. Silent discos. The best dining facility in the military. The highest morale in the army. If we ever find out they get U.S. TV channels via satellite, I might look into moving there myself.

Fox’s Thursday Comedies Need to Quit Hinting Around and Actually Show Us A Threesome
Image
Around this time last year, America caught a raging case of Challengers fever. The film, from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, portrays a trio of aspiring pro tennis players — pals Patrick (Josh O’Connor) and Art (Mike Faist) and Tashi (Zendaya) — jumping around in time from their frisky late teens to their resigned thirties with several stops in between. To reduce a gripping thriller to a gross oversimplification: everyone is in love with everyone else, and the sexy possibilities made it a meme overnight. What those memes acknowledged was what the movie boldly states: any love triangle is less interesting than three hot characters just getting it on together.

Since Fox’s Thursday night comedies premiered their latest seasons back in January — Season Three for Animal Control, and Season One for Going Dutch — both have seemed like they learned the lessons of Challengers. But did they really? These...
