At the end of The Bear’s fourth season, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) withdraws his stake in the restaurant and declares he’s leaving the culinary industry altogether. In what can be described as either an act of martyrdom or growth, he acknowledges that all of his work has been linked to his familial trauma and gives Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) his stake, making his cousin, sister Natalie (Abby Elliott) and restaurant partner Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) its three owners.
For a show that has spent all this time exploring the duality of abuse and resilience within the toxic kitchens of America’s restaurants, it’s a somewhat risky move. But through Carmy’s choice, The Bear captures not just how we can use work to process, escape or bury our trauma, but also potentially destroy ourselves, our work and our relationships doing the things we love.
That’s not a particularly new thread for the series,...

Season 4 of The Bear premiered on Hulu and shortly after, FX renewed the show for a fifth season. While a renewal is more than welcome, Season 4 has received mixed reviews as far as critics and audiences are concerned. A look at the aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, shows that Season 4 currently holds scores of 85% from critics and 69% from audiences, the lowest in the show's history. Despite this, the show was in the news for the right reasons last week as it scored 13 Emmy nominations for its third season, bringing the show's grand total to 49 nominations. Veteran actress, Jamie Lee Curtis, who stars in the series as Donna Berzatto, received her second Emmy nomination for her work as Donna following her win last year.
Curtis will return as part of the cast for The Bear Season 5 alongside series lead, Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmy Berzatto. Production on Season 5 is already in...

The Bear didn't waste time in scoring yet another season, as the show was officially renewed for Season 5 less than a week after Season 4 premiered on Hulu. The announcement is surely one that has dedicated fans of the show excited, despite the show's latest season dividing critics and audiences more than previous seasons. Season 4 currently holds the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in the show's history, currently sitting at 86% from critics and 69% from audiences. That’s lower than Season 3's ratings and shows a sad decline from Season 1 and 2's ratings, which were in the 90s to 100. Recently, series star Molly Gordon shared an update regarding Season 5, following suggestions that the season could face an unprecedented delay.
Season 4 ended on a shocking note, as Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) decided that stepping away from The Bear was the best thing for his mental health and the strain he was being put through.

The Bear has been nothing but a spectacle on Hulu, bringing out what happens in the kitchen world, becoming the Breaking Bad of the restaurant industry. With an insightful storyline, a stellar acting cast, background scores that could move a mountain in you, and the cinematography showcasing the chaotic lives of chefs, the show has officially made it into the pop culture.
I truly loved watching The Bear, waiting impatiently for its reprisal of the fifth season. In the meantime, a thought occurred that what would the scenario be if one of the characters were not present in the show? Would it change the plot? Would it have made any difference on the show at all? Let’s delve deep into this conviction and see where the character fits in the show.

The Bear is already a visual treat, a show packed with tight cinematography, razor-sharp editing, and performances that pull you right into the heat of the kitchen. But the creators didn’t stop at just looking good. They wanted more. They wanted the show to feel like something. To hit you in the chest, it stays with you long after the credits roll. And boy, did they cook.
From chaos to calm, the building tensions to the small wins, The Bear uses music like a secret ingredient, one that elevates every emotional scene. It’s not just good TV; it’s something that makes shows like this stand out. The soundtrack is packed with iconic needle drops, perfectly placed to deepen the mood or underscore a moment of character transformation. The Bear star Molly Gordon has shared an update regarding season 5, following rumors of an unprecedented delay. The Bear was officially renewed for season 5 less than a week after season 4 premiered on Hulu. Though the latest season once again divided audiences and critics, the kitchen chaos we've all learned to love will return once more.
There are major changes on the horizon, though, with Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) announcing his retirement from the restaurant business in The Bear season 4 finale and Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Natalie (Abby Elliott) becoming joint partners to (hopefully) secure the restaurant's future.
During an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley for her upcoming dark romantic comedy, Oh, Hi!, Gordon, who plays Carmy's love interest and Berzatto family friend Claire on The Bear, shared how she and the other cast members discovered the show had been renewed for season 5.

At some point in the future (maybe), FX's The Bear will cease to be great. But we aren't quite there yet.
Perhaps the downgrade in quality will occur in season 5 as, according to Deadline, FX is renewing the dramedy. But what many fans might be asking is "why?" Or, "Do I want to know what happens next?"
First off, you know you do. Just like with any great piece of TV or streaming series, you will keep tuning in until the show appears to simply be trying to take your money without giving you the same enjoyment it once did. Hopefully, The Bear will never do that, just as Squid Game knew when to call it quits on Netflix.
The Bear could overstay its welcome with season 5

One of the biggest guest stars in FX's The Bearseason 4 has revealed whether they will return in future episodes after solving a series-long mystery in the latest installment.
The Bear season 4 featured several returning guest stars, such as Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Josh Hartnett, John Mulaney, and Gillian Jacobs, who is the real-life wife of series creator Christopher Storer. It also introduced new characters, such as Danielle Deadwyler's Chantel and Brie Larson's Francie Fak.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Larson, who plays Captain Marvel in the MCU, finally spoke out about her "top secret" cameo in The Bear season 4. Her character, Francie, has had a longstanding beef with Abby Elliott's Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto for unknown reasons.
It's revealed, however, that the two may have had a fling in the past, to the dismay of Sugar's husband Pete. Larson touched on Francie's character and the possibility...

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for 'The Bear' Season 4Season 4 of The Bear featured a new crop of guest stars, but nothing was more shocking than Brie Larson, who played Francie Fak, after her character was mentioned a handful of times in previous seasons. While her imminent appearance was something fans highly anticipated, Larson shares how she was able to keep it under wraps.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress says that her work with Marvel made it easier for her to keep this role a secret. However, keeping it from the people she knew was still difficult, as she needed to find another reason to go to the show's filming location in Chicago. According to Larson, she kept this role secret for a year and is now happy that she can finally talk about it.

Looking at the first four seasons of the series, there's a good chance we'll see The Bear season 5 released during the last week of June 2026. Even as fans debated whether The Bear was starting to lose its bite, FX has decided to stay in the kitchen. On the heels of The Bear Season 4’s premiere, the network officially announced the hit series has been renewed for a fifth season. The news comes despite the show’s latest installment receiving the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in its history, currently sitting at 80% from critics and a worrying 69% from audiences. That’s a noticeable drop from the show’s flawless 100% runs for Seasons 1 and 2, and even lower than Season 3’s already softening numbers.
But according to FX Chairman John Landgraf, the audience is still showing up:
“The Bear continues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season—as seen through incredibly high viewership—has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons. Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew make...

FX is saying “Yes chef” to more episodes of “The Bear.” The Emmy darling from Christopher Storer was renewed for Season 5 less than a week after its Season 4 return.
This upcoming season is expected to premiere in 2026. That’s a big deal considering that cast obligations have become a major headache for this FX drama. After the resounding success of the first two seasons, Seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back to account for the cast’s busy schedules. Later this year, Jeremy Allen White’s stars in “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” while Ebon Moss-Bachrach is in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,”

It's no secret that working at Saturday Night Live means trying to be creative in perhaps the most high-pressure environment in television. For some cast members, that pressure can be very motivating. But for The Bear's Abby Elliott, it felt more like a threat.
Elliott joined Saturday Night Live during season 34, making history as the child of a former SNL cast member. Her father, Chris Elliott, spent one season on the show in season 20. Her tenure on the show was marked by a string of celebrity impressions, including Angelina Jolie, Katy Perry, Khloe Kardashian, and Zooey Deschanel.
But the dream job on SNL could feel much more like a nightmare for Elliott. Things can get a little cut-throat at the show as performers compete to get their material on air or find a way to become a favorite of the writers.

The Bear Season 4 brings the Berzatto family back into the TV spotlight as one of the most drama-ready families in recent memory. The hit FX on Hulu TV comedy recently returned to the streamer, picking up the story of Jeremy Allen White's Carmy Berzatto, a highly-skilled chef brought back to Chicago after the death of a loved one. Like past seasons, Season 4 expands the scope of the central Berzatto clan, focusing on Carmy's relatives like Jamie Lee Curtis' Donna and Abby Elliott's Natalie, along with those in the family's gravitational pull.
Season 4 of the award-winning series picks up where Season 3 left off. White's reeling chef has put everything he has into a new high-end restaurant in Chicago's downtown core, honoring the legacy of the family business (which was once a greasy spoon Italian Beef joint) while walking in the footsteps of his older brother Mikey (played by The Walking Dead...

Abby Elliott got her big break on Saturday Night Live doing impressions, following in the legacy of her family.
The Bear star starred on the NBC late-night sketch show for four seasons and in a recent interview, recalled what it was like to work there.
“Every week was a new week, and your happiness would depend on whether you got something on air or not, and if three weeks went by without a sketch, you’d think, ‘Uh-oh, am I going to be fired?’” Elliott said in an interview with The Independent. “There was always that looming threat of getting fired. That was the worst that could happen. And then, I kind of did.”
Elliot joined SNL in 2008 after dropping out of college in 2006 to enroll in improv classes following the encouragement of her father. The comedic star is known for impressions like Rachel Maddow, Drew Barrymore, and Angelina Jolie.

Almost immediately, The Bear became known for its intensity, baking a story about grief into its rapid-fire depiction of food being made and characters shouting at one another. In retrospect, this version of The Bear more or less ended when Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) got himself locked in a walk-in freezer at the end of season two and seemed to forever drive away his on-again, off-again maybe girlfriend, Claire (Molly Gordon).
In season three, the series condensed much of its characters’ food-fueled acrimony into a charmingly distressing, cameo-filled sixth-episode flashback largely set around the Berzatto family table. Now, a parallel episode from season four, set at a wedding, culminates not with anyone driving a sedan into a living room, but with a daddy-daughter dance.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Bear Season 4.] The Bear‘s fourth season is serving up some seriously tasty plotlines, but none so much as the evolution of Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie’s (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) dynamic. The pair has come a long way from where they started, which was pretty much at each other’s throats when viewers first met them in Season 1. And now, for fans who have finished Season 4, they have seen Sydney request that Richie be added to the restaurant agreement paperwork, making him part-owner alongside Syd and Natalie (Abby Elliott), as Carmy plans to step back from his head chef duties. While we grapple with the weight of Carmy’s choice, it must be acknowledged that no matter where you sit on the current plotlines of The Bear, one of the show’s most satisfying story arcs has been the growth between Sydney and Richie. Admittedly, I formerly believed the...

Speaking to Variety, Colón-Zayas responded to questions about the future of The Bear, noting that neither she nor the rest of the cast are sure of the series' trajectory after a fraught Season 4 finale. "We don’t know the change in strategy, with Carmy leaving behind the need to pull off chaos, and sticking with consistency, how that may have affected word of mouth, whoever’s coming in. Maybe that’s the Hail Mary," Colón-Zayas stated. "I honestly don’t know. Is there any Hail Mary that can come through now that that clock has reached zero? I don’t know. I don’t want it to end."
Colón-Zayas went on to explain that she believes her character Tina would be "devastated" by where things left off, explaining that "this isn’t just about a job," for the character.

The ending of “The Bear” season 4 shows Carmy leaving the restaurant to save it, handing over the reins to Syd and Nat, leaving its fate in the dark. The third season showed him devoting his life to this restaurant by sacrificing everything else he loved. The fourth season shows him doing almost the opposite of that. He tries to mend the bridges he burnt with Claire, his mother, and others, while questioning his passion for food. He wonders: Did he get into the business only to prove his worth to Michael? Was it meant to be a big, resounding ‘f**k you’ to Chef David? Or was it just plain escapism? He introspects without letting anyone get a hint of his thoughts. Classic Carmy, right? Well, the fourth season shows him trying to move past that image.

The Bear season 4 finale, "Goodbye," picks up after service. After learning that Carmy gave her and Sugar control of The Bear in episode 9, Sydney is having a hard time processing what is happening.
Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) meets her outside, and they finally have a long overdue conversation. Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) thinks Carmy is leaving her at the restaurant and bailing on their future. Carmy tries to explain that it is not actually the case, but you know how he is with words, feelings, and all of that. Things don't come out right sometimes, but usually, when he opens up, he gets his point across.
It blows up in a huge argument. Sydney tries to smoke a cigarette because she's so mad, but she doesn't even know how to light it. Honestly, I don't really know what Carmy is trying to do here. He even has a cigarette to cool off.

The Bear season 4 episode 9, "Tonnato," begins where episode 8 ended with Carmy knocking on his mother's door to drop off a box of photos.
Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis) answers and asks Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) to stick around for a while to chat. He tries to leave, but his mother basically makes him stay. You can tell Carmy is not ready for this, but it's a long time coming.
Back at The Bear, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) meets Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) outside in the alley while Computer (Brian Koppelman) meets with Sugar (Abby Elliott) about the fate of the business. They apologize to each other for letting each other down, Uncle Jimmy on the business side and Sydney on the food side of things. He tells her that her mother would be very happy with how Sydney grew up and the chef she became.
At Donna's place, Carmy and his ma look through some old photos.

Here’s what happened in the final moments of Season 4 and what that ending may mean if there is a Season 5.
Is Carmy leaving the Bear?
Eventually. At the end of Episode 9, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) finally took a look at her new partnership agreement with the restaurant, which contained an unpleasant surprise. As part of her new contract, ownership for...

This post contains spoilers for Season Four of The Bear, which is now streaming on Hulu.
Late in “Bears,” the seventh episode of the new season of The Bear, 16 different people are seated under the same table at a wedding reception. When we first see this table — part of the furnishings in the home of Frank (Josh Hartnett), newly-married to Tiffany (Gillian Jacobs), who used to be married to Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) — it does not seem large enough to accommodate that many people. It looks like… a table, just big...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Bear's season 4 finale.
While The Bear's season 4 finale provides ample opportunity for the show to return for season 5, an insider report suggests it may not be feasible any time soon. In The Bear season 4, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Natalie (Abby Elliott) are given a painfully short window to turn the restaurant around, culminating in Carmy making a major, life-altering decision in the finale.
A new report published by Varietysuggests that The Bear season 5 – if it's officially renewed, this is currently still in question – may not start production for a while, depending on FX's commitment, "creative intent," and the availability of its leading stars.
The Bear's Emmy-winning streak has not only attracted major household names to participate in guest-star roles, but has made household names of its leading actors. Jeremy Allen White is...

Warning: contains spoilers from Season 4 of The Bear.
Last year, just ahead of The Bear’s Season Three premiere, Oliver “Cicero” Platt gave an interview to Andi Ortiz at The Wrap. On the subject of “Fishes,” the Christmas flashback episode from The Bear’s second season, Platt revealed that series creator Christopher Storer had been hearing from actors who wanted to appear on the show, but that Storer’s vision was so clear, such actors’ fame or glamor were of no consequence to him: “Like, f—ing Marlon Brando could be calling him, and if Marlon wasn’t right for whatever the role, he’d find a polite way to say, ‘I’m so flattered. I’m gonna have something else for you in the future.’”
And yet, “Fishes” is memorable, in large part, for the many distractingly well-known faces who show up to play members of the extended Berzatto family.

Warning: contains spoilers from Season 4 of The Bear.
Since its premiere in 2022, The Bear has won two DGA Awards, five Critics’ Choice Awards, five Golden Globes and 21 Emmys — all in comedy categories. In 2024, Jeremy Allen White beat out Matt Berry from What We Do in the Shadows for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy; at the same ceremony, Liza Colón-Zayas beat Hannah Einbinder from Hacks. The previous year, The Bear was Emmy voters’ choice for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2023, triumphing over shows including Abbott Elementary.
I’m not sure exactly how the Television Academy, which awards the Emmy, defines a comedy, but one thing will be clear if The Bear submits in those categories next year: It’s not based on how funny they are. As proof, here’s every joke — and, because I’m being generous, seemingly intended laugh line — from the show’s just-dropped fourth season.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 4 of “The Bear.”
Season 3 of “The Bear” ended at a major crossroads for the title restaurant. Carmy (Jeremy Allen-White) and the crew were anxiously wondering about the contents of their first-ever review, and unbeknownst to anyone else, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) was having a panic attack due to the weight of the decision ahead of her: Stay at The Bear with the dysfunctional team she loves, or accept a high-paying job offer at a new restaurant led by a more established chef?
By the end of Season 4, those questions are answered, but the future of The Bear remains as unclear as ever.
In Episode 9, “Tonnato,” Pete (Chris Witaske) calls Sydney to go over the updated terms of the partnership agreement she’s procrastinated signing all season. She has finally turned down Adam’s (Adam Shapiro) job offer and decided to stick things out with Carmy,...

The Bear season 4 has been building to this episode, and it's finally here. It's officially time for Tiffany's wedding! And, it's a big family reunion with a bunch of people with a devastating shared history. Let the drama begin!
The Bear season 4 episode 7, "Bears," opens with Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) having a panic attack in the alley outside the wedding venue with Sydney (Ayo Edebiri). She tries to calm him down, but it's clear that he's still quite frustrated, which is putting it mildly, about his relationship with Tiffany (Gillian Jacobs), her getting married to a great guy like Frank (Josh Hartnett), and everything that goes with that.
Brie Larson is Francie Fak
Inside, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) sees Tiffany, and she gives him permission to bail as soon as he gets uncomfortable from the anxiety of being this close to all these family and friends. It's so triggering! Honestly, I'm...
