There are a ton of all-time great horror films celebrating major anniversaries in 2025 – The Shining, Jaws, and Friday the 13th, just to name a few of them. However, few have a legacy quite like The Bride of Frankenstein. The 1935 film just celebrated its 90th anniversary. Despite the age of the film, companies like Funko and Neca have been keeping this original Frankenstein sequel alive with new figures. Now Neca is back with their latest piece based on the gothically haunting Bride of Frankenstein.
A part of Neca’s seven-inch scale retro line, The Bride is a spooky glow-in-the-dark rendition. The reluctant monster is seen wearing her usual white cloak, which is removable, and bandages. The Bride’s hair has always been one of the character’s most iconic features, and this figure's skin and hair glow. The Bride now joins other popular Universal Monsters like The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Invisible Man,...

It looks like Blumhouse is dead set on continuing the iconic legacy of Universal's Monsters. Their acclaimed take on The Invisible Man was lauded as one of the best horror films of the decade, and their upcoming Wolf Man is hotly anticipated. Now, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are unearthing The Mummy. Officially titled Lee Cronin's The Mummy, the film is slated for April 17, 2026. Cronin is writing and directing the film, produced by Atomic Monster, Blumhouse and Doppelgängers, for New Line. Cronin touted in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.

An adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley novel Frankenstein has long been a dream project for director Guillermo del Toro, the filmmaker with such credits as Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Blade II. He’s been talking about it for at least 17 years – and now he’s actually making it! After previous attempts to get the project going fell through, Netflix stepped up to let del Toro make the Frankenstein movie he’s been dreaming of. They haven’t announced a release date for the film yet, but while we wait for that news to come along, here’s Everything We Know About Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein:
Long Road To Production
Del Toro has named Frankenstein as his favorite novel, and in 2007, he told us that the project he “would kill to make” is a faithful “Miltonian tragedy” version of Frankenstein. He said that he...

In 2004, Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale teamed up for an action-adventure picture that doubled as a love-letter to the original Universal Monsters franchise. Directed by Stephen Sommers (who had recently resurrected The Mummy), Van Helsing combined Dracula and Frankenstein with The Wolf Man and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, offering audiences a new sort of action hero to root for in Jackman's Gabriel Van Helsing. Universal had high hopes for Van Helsing, and at one point even developed a television spin-off set in the region of Transylvania. But what happened? Well, let's just say box-office receipts matter after all.

Another of Universal's classic monsters, Wolf Man, is being remade, and the long-gestating project is finally coming to fruition. Ever since the failed Dark Universe, Universal has adopted a different plan to resurrect their classic monsters, which include characters such as Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man. The studio decided to shift focus onto standalone stories over interconnectivity and shared cinematic universes, which has been difficult to achieve in the horror genre.
After the success of 2020's The Invisible Man proved that standalone horror films still worked for the monsters, Universal quickly green-lit a remake of The Wolf Man, but the project stalled. Various production delays kept the hirsute nightstalker away from the big screen,...

There's a lot of buzz surrounding next January's Wolf Man, Blumhouse's latest movie to put the spotlight on a classic Universal Monster. However, this first look...well, we're guessing it's not what most of you expected.
The character just made his official debut at the latest Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios and, while this costume might not be representative of exactly what we'll see in the final movie, the design itself is splitting opinions. He certainly doesn't look like a traditional "Wolfman," anyway, and this feels like a creative decision which could come back to bite the reboot.
It's too late to change it now, of course, and if nothing else, this sneak peek suggests the new Wolf Man will be a 100% practical creation; clearly, the plan is to go for the same vibe as the 1941 classic and there are some similarities in that respect.
Few official details have...

Most horror-obsessed movie fans can tell you about the first time a film truly frightened them. For some, it involved sneaking into a dark movie theater and checking out an "R" rated horror story they weren't technically old enough to watch yet. Others might have stayed up late, waiting for everyone in their family to fall asleep, only to turn on the TV when no one was watching to check out something they'd been expressly told not to. And then there are those of us who find themselves terrified while watching a movie no one ever expected would be frightening.
As a child, Stephen King experienced that latter phenomenon firsthand. It wasn't The Body Snatcher, The Phantom of the Opera, or even The Wolf Man that terrified King's imagination and set him on course to becoming one of the world's most prolific horror creators. Instead, a classic children's movie enthralled,...

When it comes to the Universal Monsters, the first ghoulish creatures to come to mind are Dracula, Frankensteins Monster or The Wolf Man. Especially in those early horror days for the studio. However, as the decades have gone on, one Universal classic is finally getting the recognition it deserves. That would be 1932's The Mummy from director Karl Freund. The almost 100-year-old film starring Boris Karloff as the title-monster came to 4K Blu-ray for the first time last year. Now it's getting a killer 4K steelbook just in time for Halloween.

Horror film fans will be aware of the Universal Classic Monsters franchise, which reigned over the entertainment landscape for two decades (1930-1950) by having, well, classic monsters like Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy, and more star in their own films while interacting with each other in “monster mash-up” crossovers. While The Mummy was revived as a franchise in the 2000s, and Van Helsing is undergoing some kind of reappreciation process, they didn’t manage to recreate the craze back then. Universal Studios had another go at it with the Dark Universe, but that was a colossal flop. Meanwhile, here in Bollywood, Maddock Studios has struck gold with its homegrown monsters. They started things off with Stree, which featured a ghost who abducted men that roamed around at night. Then came Bhediya, which used the werewolf trope to comment on environmentalism. Munjya modernized the concept of the poltergeist while...

Most of the Universal Monsters have headlined multiple major motion pictures in their decades of being pop culture icons. Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man, they all anchored a wide array of motion pictures in the 1930s and 1940s, while their lasting legacy in the world of cinema is felt well into the modern world. Modern productions like The Wolfman, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man have kept the legacy of these monstrous figures vibrantly alive. Strangely, though, one figure that hasn't been exploited with endless sequels and remakes was The Creature From the Black Lagoon, which just celebrated its 70th anniversary. Still one of the most influential monster movies ever, Black Lagoon spawned a pair of sequels in the 1950s, but the franchise hasn’t received a new installment since 1956.

Director Fred Dekker’s 1987 cult classic monster mash The Monster Squad (watch it Here) features variations of the classic Universal Monsters characters Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and the Gillman, but it wasn’t actually a Universal production. So to avoid getting in trouble with Universal, the movie’s effects crew at the Stan Winston Studio had to create their own specific designs of the creatures… but that didn’t stop them from sneaking homages to the original monsters in there. It has been known for a while now that designers Steve Wang and Matt Rose hid the face of the original Creature from the Black Lagoon somewhere on the neck of their Gillman suit. Now – as pointed out by Monster Squad super-fan Shawn Robare of Plastic Rocket Pop – the exact location of that face has been found!

Universal's remake of The Wolf Man in 2024 marks the revival of werewolf horror movies and sets the stage for a new trend in the genre. The Wolf Man has the potential to become a year-defining horror movie, similar to The Invisible Man, and revive interest in werewolf horror as a whole. The anticipated project Big Bad, directed by Christopher Landon, will continue the trend of werewolf movies.

Monster Mash was a movie that called into question the relevancy of icons like Dracula, Wolf Man and Frankenstein. The 2000 animated film posits the question of how scary they truly are in the wake of characters like Jason, Chucky and the Xenomorph. Monster Mash's profound messaging reflects a cycle of all great horror movie villains.

The Universal Classic Monsters have formed the foundation of horror with iconic characters like Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolf Man and, of course, Dracula. Universal Pictures has continued to capitalize on these characters with retellings of their classic stories like 2020's The Invisible Man or the horror comedy Renfield. But the studio has also shown that Dracula can be interpreted in many different ways, including the bloodsucking monster that the original Bram Stoker novel introduced. The Last Voyage of the Demeter has offered a modern look at this monstrous version of the character, but it was far from the only one.

Movies have become a hub for artists to express themselves in ways that touch millions and millions over decades. Because of this, many actors and actresses have become household names thanks to the characters they've brought to life. One of the best examples of this is Clint Eastwood, best known for his roles in countless Westerns. But like many other famous actors, he actually got his start in the horror genre with Universal's Classic Monsters.
The classic monsters Universal Pictures introduced ranged from icons like Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster to more niche creations like The Invisible Man and The Wolf Man. And these movies affected the industry as a whole, bringing a shared universe together long before properties like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They even gave a young actor like Clint Eastwood a chance.

Nearly a century ago, Universal Pictures changed the way people look at movie monsters. The studio's take on characters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s monsters, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, and so many more became pop culture icons that would forever influence both horror cinema and just cinematic storytelling in general. Thanks entirely to the efforts of artists like director James Whale and actors such as Bela Lugosi, these characters have become pop culture fixtures that will undoubtedly live on for eras to come. Despite that initial fame, various attempts in the 21st century to revive these characters have come up horrifically short. The Wolfman, Van Helsing, that 2017 Mummy movie — so many box office flops, and many of them not very good as pieces of entertainment. What’s going on? How come remakes of some of the most beloved monster movies ever have such a dismal track record?...

Back in the ‘80s, if you were a kid, nothing seemed cooler than being part of a rag-tag group of youngsters that fought monsters. Fast forward to today, if you’re an adult, nothing seems cooler than being in the ‘80s and part of a gang that fights monsters. Some things just never change! The Duffer Brothers, who created Stranger Things, knew that when they launched the highly popular series on Netflix about the supernatural events in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. But in reality, they were just trading in on some of that decade’s nostalgia with inspiration from movies like E.T., Poltergeist, Ghostbusters, and The Goonies produced.

With the surprisingly dark Werewolf By Night released on Disney+, audiences get to experience a new monster that doubles as the hero of the story. Typically, with monsters, they are given their monikers because that name because they are the villains, such as the infamous Predators and Xenomorphs from the respective Alien and Predator franchises.
However, Werewolf By Night is far from the first to play with the idea that monsters are merely allegories for the outcasts that society, unfortunately, labels as abnormal. From vampires to werewolves to cybernetic organisms, some 'monsters' have been the protagonists of the story, thus subverting expectations.

Rick Baker is a legend. The special makeup effects master is responsible for creating work for "Videodrome," "Thriller," "Harry and the Hendersons," "Coming to America," "Men in Black," "The Nutty Professor," and so much more. His work is iconic (and I don't use that word lightly) and arguably unparalleled. Hell, he won the very first Oscar for Best Makeup for his groundbreaking work on "American Werewolf in London," and he would go on to win the award a record seven times. In short, Rick Baker is one of the best to ever do it.
Not only is Baker an artist, but he's also a fan of the classic makeup work of cinema, particularly the Universal Monsters, most of which were created by Jack Pierce. So it makes sense that when Universal decided to remake "The Wolfman," Baker would want to be on board to bring the lycanthrope to life. Baker...

The Munsters are, by design, a comedic reinvention of the classic monsters – Herman is Frankenstein’s monster, Lily is a vampire, Grandpa is Count Dracula, and Eddie is a werewolf – but other interpretations of iconic creatures occasionally made appearances.
Before TV’s first family of fright returns in Rob Zombie’s The Munsters, let’s look back at six classic monsters that have appeared in The Munsters Universe up to this point.
Creature from the Black Lagoon
Despite only appearing on screen for about a minute and a half, Uncle Gilbert is perhaps the most memorable member of the Munsters’ extended family. The reason is simple: he’s the Gill-man from the Creature from the Black Lagoon franchise.
In “Love Comes to Mockingbird Heights”, Uncle Gilbert sends the family 180,000 worth of gold doubloons from the old country for safekeeping until he arrives to visit. This inciting incident sets the plot in motion,...

When you think of Halloween, what do you think of? Perhaps you think of candy, pumpkins, black cats, and scarecrows. You wouldn't be alone, as these elements of classic holiday iconography have been used and celebrated for decades, even after they weren't necessarily considered scary anymore. They have become intrinsically associated with spooky season to the point where you can't look at a pumpkin anymore without thinking of it with a carved face.
For the 31st iteration of Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Orlando Resort has taken these symbols and elevated them for modern sensibilities. Pumpkins have been given demented sentience, witches now make their famous brew from human blood, and scarecrows come to life to stalk the living.
However, that's only a taste of what the event this year has to offer. /Film was invited to Universal Orlando for an exclusive opening night experience, and while not without its issues,...
