Black Doves season 2 delay just got worse after the latest update
Image
Black Doves was one of the most popular Netflix shows at the end of 2024! Netflix actually picked up Black Doves for a second season before the show even premiered in December, but that doesn't mean it's coming to Netflix anytime soon.

The latest Black Doves season 2 update is actually going to make the wait even longer, most likely, for fans waiting to see the second season of the spy thriller.

According to a report from What's on Netflix, Black Doves season 2 was supposed to start filming in the UK in July 2025, but that did not happen. Instead, production will start in "late September" and last through basically the end of the year and into early 2026.

Unfortunately, that is not good news for fans hoping to see the season on Netflix before the second half of 2026. There's definitely going to be a six to eight-month gap between the end of production...

Across the pond in the UK, viewers can't get enough of the brand-new Deaf-led dramaCode of Silence. Created by Catherine Moulton, who herself is partially hearing-impaired, the series boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes the likes of Kieron Moore, Andrew Buchan, and Ghosts alum Charlotte Ritchie. Groundbreaking New British Mystery Series Earns Coveted Perfect Score on Rotten Tomatoes

The latest in a long line of British thrillers, brand-new ITV mystery series Code of Silence has broken new ground in the hunt for better Deaf-led drama representation on modern television. Created by Catherine Moulton, who herself is partially hearing-impaired, the series stars the multi-talented Strictly Come Dancing winner and Doctor Who alum Rose Ayling-Ellis as a Deaf woman who, upon the force's normal lip-readers becoming preoccupied, is taken from her humble canteen job and placed in a precarious position as a key component in the solving of a difficult criminal case.

Also starring the likes of Kieron Moore, Andrew Buchan, and Ghosts alum Charlotte Ritchie, Code of Silence cemented its groundbreaking status by accompanying its British network debut with an opening advertisement break featuring no sound, giving viewers a taste of what such an experience is like for the hearing-impaired. ‘Code of Silence’ Writer Catherine Moulton Knows: “Lip Readers Are Detectives”
Image
When you watch the crime drama Code of Silence, which premiered on ITV and streamer Itvx in the U.K. on May 18 and will hit streaming service BritBox in the U.S. and Canada in July, you quickly realize that lip reading is even harder, and much less of a science, than you may have believed. One big reason for this reality check embedded throughout the detective thriller series is the experience of partially deaf creator and writer Catherine Moulton (Baptiste, Hijack) and the show’s deaf star Rose Ayling-Ellis who portrays the protagonist Alison, a deaf police canteen worker who gets tasked with a role in a sting operation due to her lip-reading skills.

“People are always looking for new ways into crime shows,” Moulton tells THR. “And it just sort of made sense to me that lip readers are detectives. So to have a crime show with a...

Code of Silence Season 1 Review: Breaking Sound Barriers
Image
From its very first frame, Code of Silence seizes attention by reframing the well-trodden police thriller through a seldom-seen perspective. What begins as a routine surveillance operation quickly turns into a compelling study of perception, communication, and power—an engagement with crime drama that feels both fresh and urgent.

Code of Silence is a six-part series premiering on Itvx/ITV1, each episode running approximately fifty minutes. At its heart is Alison Brooks (Rose Ayling-Ellis), a cafeteria worker at a Canterbury police station whose extraordinary lip-reading skills land her a spot on a high-stakes undercover investigation. When detectives discover her talent, Alison shifts from serving tea to decoding the clipped, conspiratorial exchanges of a violent gang.

The action alternates between the cluttered operations room, the quiet intensity of hidden-camera footage, and the pub where Alison takes a side-job to shadow the gang’s newest recruit. These locales—the austere police station,...

15 Most Underrated TV Shows On Netflix
Image
For the past few years, Netflix could fairly be accused of employing a strategy of throwing everything they've got against a wall and seeing what sticks. With new series and original films premiering on a weekly basis, viewers are both spoiled for choice and browbeaten into submission with the sheer quantity of options at their fingertips. But let's be honest, quality control hasn't exactly been the name of the game for the streamer. They traffic in numbers, pure and simple, and with enough content there's sure to be some projects that end up being winners. That's just the law of probabilities.

But this approach has an unintended side effect, in that plenty of genuinely good shows fall by the wayside, ignored by viewers in a media landscape where its physically impossible to pay attention to every new release. Whether they were cancelled too early, failed to find an audience, or...

6 political thrillers like Zero Day to binge-watch next
Image
Zero Day is one of Netflix's most popular and talked about shows at the moment, which doesn't come as a surprise given its compelling storyline and amazingly talented cast. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a show starring big names such as Robert De Niro, Angela Bassett, Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, etc.?

The entire first season of the new political thriller dropped on Netflix on Feb. 20, and with just six episodes, it didn't take long for viewers to binge-watch the whole installment. As expected, many rushed to search for details about a potential second season. However, they may not find the news they were hoping for. With Zero Day being billed as a limited series, the chances of it returning with a new season are slim, as its storyline is intended to be a self-contained narrative.

While this is disappointing news, there's no need to fret...

If you're looking for a new show like The Recruit to watch right now, you're in luck. I shared a list of four good spy shows to watch while we wait to find out if The Recruit is renewed for season 3. The good news is that Netflix has a bunch of new spy and political thrillers to watch right now. We've seen at least four released on Netflix in as many months, not including The Recruit. That streak of new thrillers continues in February with Zero Day starring Robert De Niro coming to Netflix on Feb. 20.

Up first is the Netflix spy series that had a new season premiere...

Image
When you watch a great drama on Netflix you have a conflict over its ending. Of course, you want to get to the end to find out what happens, how all the stories come together, and what happens to the characters. Led by Kiera Knightley and Ben Whishaw, there were also strong roles for Sarah Lancashire and Andrew Buchan. Tracey Ullman also makes a dramatic late appearance in the show. The names...

‘Black Doves’ Creator on What That Final Glance From Keira Knightley Meant and Season 2 Plans
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the season one finale of Black Doves.]

Upon its early December release, Joe Barton‘s spy thriller Black Doves soared into Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows in 89 countries.

Starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, the series has already been renewed for a season two. It was a bloody and brutal season finale — we’d expect nothing less — where everyone (metaphorically and literally) lost their head a little.

In Black Doves, Knightley stars as Helen Webb, wife to the U.K.’s defense secretary Wallace and ascending government minister (Andrew Buchan). For years, she’d been passing her husband’s secrets on to a shadowy organization Helen works for (helmed by Sarah Lancashire’s Mrs Reed), which leaves her hard-pressed to explain where she’s been and what she’s been up to when returning home to her family after a hard day’s work.

All of a sudden, the death of Helen’s secret lover...

'Black Doves' Mystery Woman in the Season Finale Explained by Creator
Image
Black Doves creator Joe Barton has revealed a crucial twist that was embedded into the final scenes of season one. The sequence in question features a woman, whom fans may have been unable to identify. The woman sits quietly in the home of spymaster Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire), who enjoys a glass of champagne on Christmas. Barton divulges his intentions behind various character choices in a new GQ interview, and the show's creator also reveals the mystery woman's identity at long last.

"That's Marie (Molly Chesworth), she's Helen and Wallace's nanny. She pops up throughout the series, so it's possible to miss. I mean, she looks like she could be Reed’s daughter, they've got a similar haircut," explained Barton, adding:

But no, she's the nanny, so she's been spying on them the whole time. Basically, everyone's a spy.

Though Marie is afforded limited screen time, she shares an...

Black Doves Is A Much Better Reversal Of Another Keira Knightley Action-Thriller From 10 Years Ago
Image
Keira Knightley's new holiday thriller Black Doves is now streaming on Netflix, and it's so much better than Knightley's other spy thriller role from 2014. Black Doves is a six-episode series starring Keira Knightley as Helen Webb/Daisy Bradshaw, a spy who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. In fact, despite being set during Christmas, the show is quite a brutal affair, with a number of major deaths in Black Doves season 1.

Black Doves season 2 is confirmed, so there is more to come following the Black Doves season 1 ending. Even with the story continuing, though, this new show has already proven to be a major improvement on Keira Knightley's previous thriller role in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, one of several Jack Ryan adaptations. Although Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is another spy thriller starring Knightley, it falls short precisely where Black Doves really shines.

Keira Knightley Played Cathy In Jack...

‘Black Doves’ Is Brilliant, but It Wastes Sarah Lancashire's Talent
Image
The latest spy thriller from Netflix, Black Doves, recently nabbed a Golden Globe nomination thanks to Keira Knightly and her performance alongside Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire. The series follows Helen (Knightly), who is the wife of a top UK government official and also a spy for an elusive organization known as the Black Doves. Having gathered secrets for the past ten years, so her employer could sell them to the highest bidder, Helen easily became a vital component of their operations. When her lover, Jason (Andrew Koji), is killed, Helen’s boss, Reed (Lancashire), brings in a former associate and old friend, Sam (Whishaw), to keep her safe, get to the bottom of what happened, and find out whether Helen might be the next target.

A brilliant series full of twists, turns, and vibrantly rich characters, Black Doves is nearly a perfect viewing experience. However, as Helen becomes embroiled in a larger conspiracy,...

Keira Knightley Knows Exactly Who to Kill in 'Black Doves' Season 2
Image
Black Doves star Keira Knightley has it in for one of her co-stars. The Netflix streaming series may have recently ended its first season, but that doesn't mean the actress doesn't have certain ideas about where she wants things to head in season two.

In fact, in a recent interview with Variety, the actress revealed exactly who she'd like her character to kill in season two, saying that she's "having a very funny text line at the moment" with the series creator/showrunner Joe Barton about the one person she'd like to take out. And, considering that the show already has a confirmed second season on the way, she may just get her wish.

Who Does Keira Knightley Want to Kill During 'Black Doves' Season Two?

Needless to say, but if you don't want to be majorly spoiled on how the first season of Black Doves ends, do not read any further!

Keira Knightley Hopes Helen Can Finish Off Dani in ‘Black Doves’ Season 2: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Ok That She Tried to F— My Husband and Kill Me on Christmas Eve’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers from “Black Doves” Season 1, now streaming on Netflix.

“Black Doves,” Keira Knightley’s first television series in more than two decades, has already proved a massive success for Netflix, which, knowing it had a hit, had ordered a second season from Knightley and creator/showrunner Joe Barton before the show even premiered.

Over the course of six episodes, viewers have been entranced by Helen (Knightley) as she balances her competing roles: elegant wife of Wallace (Andrew Buchan), the Minister of Defence, doting mother of twins, supportive friend to semi-alcoholic assassin Sam (Ben Whishaw), passionate affair partner to her lover Jason (Andrew Koji) and ruthless spy for a mercenary organization called the Black Doves.

After Jason is mysteriously murdered, Helen is hellbent on revenge before realizing she has stumbled into a global conspiracy that could possibly result in World War III, and pits her...

'Black Doves' Creator Offers First Season 2 Plot Details
Image
Unlike most Netflix shows, the spy thriller series Black Doves was immune from sudden cancelation from the get-go, having been renewed for Season 2 before the first outing was even released. Now that the series has debuted and hugely impressed both critics and audiences, creator Joe Barton has teased what we can expect from Black Doves Season 2 and the continuing adventures of Keira Knightley’s Helen Webb.

Speaking with Netflix Tudum recently, Barton teased the plot of Black Doves Season 2, revealing that he likes the idea of seeing Helen getting “pulled deeper into the world of spies having been so close to leaving.” As her husband, Wallace, edges closer to the top job as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, this inevitably “increases the pressure and the danger on her as a spy.”

“Just seeing the tension of that, seeing Sam back in London … I would like to see more Eleanor and Williams,...

Why Wallace Doesn't Tell Helen He Knows About The Affair In Black Doves Season 1's Ending
Image
Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan) found out that Helen (Keira Knightley) was cheating on him in Black Doves, but he confusingly didn't tell his wife that he knew about her affair. By the end of Black Doves season 1, Helen's double life as a spy had very nearly been outed. Dani (Agnes O'Casey), had told Wallace that his wife was having an affair, and though he denied it at first, he clearly believed her. Even though Wallace was deeply suspicious of Helen's affair with Jason Davies (Andrew Koji), he didn't outright confront her about it, and instead pretended like it didn't even happen.

In the madness that was the final episodes of the show and all the deaths that happened in Black Doves, Wallace's decision to ignore Helen's infidelity may have gone under the radar. It is odd, however, how easily he let his wife of 10 years and the mother of his...

'Black Doves' Goriest Scene Is Also Its Sweetest
Image
Warning: Minor spoilers for Black Doves.

One of the best aspects of Netflix’s newest spy thriller, Black Doves, is the platonic relationship between its two main characters, Helen (Keira Knightley) and Sam (Ben Whishaw). The series centers around Helen, the wife of the UK’s Defence Secretary and a veteran spy for an elusive organization known as the Black Doves, who sells secrets across the globe to the highest bidder. Set against the backdrop of Christmas in London, the series unfolds in the days after Helen’s lover, Jason (Andrew Koji), is killed. Unsure if she’s the next target, her old associate and friend, Sam, is brought into the fold to keep her safe and figure out whether Jason’s death has anything to do with Helen.

Having met 10 years prior during Helen’s first assignment for the Black Doves, it’s clear from the beginning that she...

Is Wallace The New Prime Minister In Black Doves? Major Season 2 Setup Explained
Image
The ending of Netflix's spy thriller Black Doves set up Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan) becoming the prime minister of the United Kingdom, and that change has massive implications for season 2. Almost the entire cast of Black Doves is involved with the highest levels of the British government, and it now looks like some of the show's main characters are the most powerful people in the government. The stakes for Black Doves season 2 have been set even higher than before, and such a shuffle in Britain's government needs a bit of explaining.

At the end of Black Doves season 1, Reed (Sarah Lancaster) heavily implied that Wallace was going to become prime minister in the near future. Since Black Doves season 2 is already confirmed (via Tudum), it seems highly likely that Wallace's time at 10 Downing Street will be a main focus in the show's future. What isn't as clear is why...
