Guillermo del Toro Praises Free-to-Stream Horror Comedy For “Dark sense of humor and looming menace”
Image
Tubi is quickly becoming one of my favorite streaming services. I hate advertisements, yet even I can tolerate their limited ad breaks. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of genre programming, including everything from the cult classics of years past to celebrated contemporary efforts.

Speaking of critically lauded fare released recently, the streamer’s impressive lineup presently features a contemporary feature that won over the majority of fans and critics. Not to mention, it also caught the eye of one Guillermo del Toro. Keep reading below for his profound, yet concise take on the picture.

I love that del Toro makes a food pun in his assessment. Nice work, sir. In all seriousness, this is one that warrants checking out if you haven’t seen it. If you have seen The Menu, it’s worth paying a repeat visit. The flick is plenty clever and there’s likely...

While Berger directs, Rowan Joffe has adapted a script that is based on the novel of the same name by Lawrence Osborne. Mike Goodridge is on board to produce through his Good Chaos banner, as well as Berger through his Nine Hours banner, along with Matthew James Wilkinson. Berger currently has a first-look deal with Netflix, which this movie will be the start of.

The official plot description from Netflix reads,

But Mark Mylod’s The Chef is a whole different story and now it has a free streaming home.

Per ComicBook, The Menu starring Ana Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes is now streaming on Tubi. The movie follows a young couple who love food, traveling to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where a renowned chef with an elaborate tasting menu reveals disturbing intentions beneath a flawless exterior. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey | First trailer lands
Image
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, has been a mysterious project. Until now. Here’s the trailer.

Originally due in May, we’re now patiently waiting until September to see what Kogonada, the director of After Yang, has cooked up along with the rather formidable leading duo of Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. The script for this mysterious project has been penned by Seth Reiss, the writer of 2022’s The Menu, itself a delicious 2022 satirical drama.

For ages, we only had this rather vague logline that promises a focus ‘on two strangers and the unlikely way that their paths align.’ Intriguing? Yes. Vague? Very much so.

All that has now changed though with the release of the film’s first trailer which promises a journey into the each character’s memories, seemingly powered by some kind of benevolent and all-powerful sat nav.

With that in mind,...

Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell Meet-Cute in Surreal ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Trailer
Image
Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell start as strangers mystically reunited to time-travel into their separate pasts together in the trailer for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Seemingly a subtle romance with a sci-fi bent, the trailer begins with Robbie as Sarah and Farrell as David meeting as two singles at a wedding (Farrell gets to retain his Irish accent, which, at one point, Sarah makes fun of). However, after they’ve parted ways, David’s Gps coaxes him back to Sarah and leads them to a door in the woods...

‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Trailer: Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Find Love In Sweeping Romantic Fantasy
Image
Sony Pictures has released the trailer for “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” a romance film starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

The romance-fantasy film, directed by Kogonada, is “an imaginative tale of two strangers,” per the official logline. The cast also includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater.

Kogonada previously directed the sci-fi family drama “After Yang,” which starred Farrell and Turner-Smith, as well as 2017’s “Columbus.” He also directed the Apple TV+ series “Pachinko.” Seth Reiss, known for “The Menu,” wrote the script.

Farrell told Collider that the film is “kind of a love story, but it’s not a very typical one. It’s definitely magical realism. It’s grounded in a world that we recognize, but it also is removed enough into the world of fantastical that it goes into these kinds of whimsical places.”

Margot Robbie & Colin Farrell's New Movie Will Avoid Thunderbolts* Competition With New Release Date
Image
Fans of Barbie’s Margot Robbie and The Penguin’s Colin Farrell will have to wait a few more months for the duo’s new romance drama. The theatrical release of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has been pushed back.

Per Deadline, the film, which was originally set for a May 9 release, has been pushed back to Sept. 19. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is directed by Kogonada (The Acolyte) and written by Seth Reiss. The new release date means that the Sony Pictures' film won’t be in direct competition with the upcoming Disney/Marvel Studios' movie Thunderbolts*, which opens on May 2. However, the change does leave May 9 without a major movie studio theatrical opening.

Slated for the weekend of May 9 are the films Clown in a Cornfield, Fight or Flight, and Juliet and Romeo, from IFC, Vertical Entertainment, and Briarcliff Entertainment, respectively. Instead, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will...

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey delayed deeper into 2025
Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025)
Sony has delayed A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by After Yang’s Kogonada and starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

The absence of marketing for Sony’s upcoming mysterious film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, has had plenty of folks suggesting for a while that the film would be delayed. A no-prize reward goes to to them, then, as that has proven to be the case. Directed by Kogonada (After Yang) the film’s an intriguing oddity: the kind of expensive, movie star-driven project that we continue to be thankful to Sony for supporting.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was originally set to appear in cinemas a week after Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, but Sony appears to have backed off from that counter-programming strategy. It’s a tactic that paid off handsomely for the studio when it released It Ends With Us hot on the heels of Deadpool & Wolverine last summer,...

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Romance ‘A Big Beautiful Journey’ Pushes to Fall
Image
“A Big Beautiful Journey” is taking a journey of its own.

The Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led drama, which was originally dated for a May 9 release, is moving to September 19. This will make the film a key bit of counterprogramming in the horror-heavy pre-Halloween corridor. The date change will also give Sony time to make it a true female event movie, something they have experience with (“It Ends With Us” made over $350 million worldwide).

The movie is described as “an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.”

“A Big Beautiful Journey” was directed by Kogonada (“After Yang”) and was written by Seth Reiss. It was produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Reiss and Youree Henley. Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen serve as executive producers. The supporting cast includes Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Release Pushed to Fall

The journey for the Sony feature A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, will start later than initially expected.

Director Kogonada’s film is now set for theatrical release on Sept. 19 after previously having been dated for May 9. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater round out the cast for the movie that boasts a script from Seth Reiss (The Menu).

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will hit theaters on the same day as Universal’s horror flick Him that stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, along with 20th Century Studios’ James L. Brooks-helmed Ella McCay, featuring Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson and Ayo Edebiri. Margot Robbie & Colin Farrell Romance Drama ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Travels To Fall
Image
The Sony Pictures release of the romance drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is heading to Sept. 19 this year instead of May 9. Apparently, it’s better to be on a weekend up against the Universal horror movie Him and the James L. Brooks’ 20th Century Studios movie, Ella McCay instead of in the wake of Disney/Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, which kicks off summer on May 2.

This leaves May 9 without a major studio wide entry; just IFC’s Clown in a Cornfield, which is world premiering tonight at SXSW, Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight, and Briarcliff Entertainment’s Juliet and Romeo.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is directed by Kogonada and written by Seth Reiss. Logline is “An imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them.” I suppose we’ll see a trailer of the movie at CinemaCon at the Sony presentation in two weeks.

Moviegoers will have to wait a little longer for the Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led romantic fantasy “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” as Sony has shifted the film’s domestic theatrical release from May 9 to Sept. 19.

Ralph Fiennes' 'The Menu' Is Proof That Mid-Budget Movies Still Work
Image
In September 2022, a movie starring Ralph Fiennes that defied all expectations and eluded an easy label was released with little fanfare but quickly caught the attention of audiences everywhere. Through word of mouth, The Menu became something of a phenomenon – a mid-budget movie that didn’t quite fit into any one genre, and that gave very little away in its marketing, was suddenly one of the most discussed and debated movies of the year.

It was this fascination and intrigue surrounding it that quickly made it arguably one of the best movies to come out in 2022, and certainly one of the most popular, despite its modest beginnings. Directed by Mark Mylod and written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, this movie has continued to be a favorite among audiences of all kinds and is still just as popular over two years later. So, what is it about this movie that has fans so captivated?...

Ralph Fiennes & Anya Taylor-Joy's 'The Menu' Hits Top 10 on Netflix Charts
Image
The 2022 film The Menu has dominated the Netflix charts, hitting the number one spot in the Top 10 movies section on the streaming service. Directed by Mark Mylod, The Menu is a scathing and hilarious social commentary that centers around working-class woman Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) as she becomes unknowingly trapped in the restaurant of a high-end Chef (Ralph Fiennes) on a remote island, along with several high-class and incredibly wealthy socialites, not knowing the twisted surprises that await in the menu for the evening.

The Menu is filled with clever, dry humor and riveting performances from the likes of Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, John Leguizamo, and many other actors, each representative of a facet of high society whose tone deafness and lack of empathy land them in the hands of a Chef gone mad. The way Fiennes portrays the unhinged cook with incredible levels of restraint helps to make the movie...

Margot Robbie’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey gets a 2025 release date
Margot Robbie
May 2025 will mark the release of Margot Robbie’s follow-up to Barbie – A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Margot Robbie has all the ingredients necessary to be a world-beating movie star right now: her last film, Barbie, was the most commercially successful movie of 2023 and it was a project that she also produced. LuckyChap, Robbie’s production company is developing all kinds of interesting projects and Robbie herself is attached to some major franchises that are grinding into motion: A Pirates of The Caribbean film, an Oceans’ Eleven prequel, An Avengelyne movie. Then there’s the LuckyChap takes on The Sims and Monopoly, two huge game titles that could yet feature Robbie in front of the camera.

Before all of that though, the actor will be appearing with Colin Farrell and director Koganda to make A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, an ‘imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that...

The release date for Margot Robbie’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey finds the film arriving one week after Marvel’s Thunderbolts*
Image
After banking over one billion dollars at the box office with Greta Gerwig’s joyous Barbie movie, Margot Robbie is ready to embark on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in 2025. The Kogonada-directed drama opens on May 9, 2025, during Mother’s Day weekend. The newly-announced release date finds A Big Bold Beautiful Journey arriving in theaters one week after the theatrical debut of Marvel Studios‘ Thunderbolts*, which hits cinemas on May 2, 2025. Some could say it’s a bold move to go toe-to-toe with one of Marvel’s action blockbusters, especially after the overwhelming success of the studio’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which has banked over one billion at the box office.

Kogonada directs A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from a script by Seth Reiss. The film reportedly focuses on two strangers and how their paths align unexpectedly. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater join the cast alongside Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

Hugh Grant Talks Fascism, Bad Sex, and Being Terrified of Kate Winslet for ‘The Regime’
Image
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through Episode 4 of “The Regime.”]

Kate Winslet has only one Academy Award, but good luck telling Hugh Grant that.

Created by “Succession” writer Will Tracy, HBO’s “The Regime” is a dark political satire about an authoritarian country and its dangerously squirrely ruler. The venomous Chancellor Elena Vernham is a scene-stealing TV character who gifts Winslet ample acting opportunity.

Winslet always delivers — be it through the text-heavy speeches given to Elena’s constituency, a handful of bespoke musical theater moments (complete with flawless costumes), or the crowning jewel episode that sees Vernham meet with ex-Chancellor turned prisoner Ed Keplinger. That’s Grant.

“I’ve barely seen her for 30 years since ‘Sense and Sensibility,’ and I was a bit frightened of her now,” Grant told IndieWire; he gives a shaggily chic performance as a flirty and shifty academic with a life framed in underground dystopia. “I mean, God almighty, she’s got about 400 Oscars and is revered.

How Will Tracy Wrote HBO’s ‘The Regime’: ‘It’s One Big Nationalistic Yes And—’
Image
The affable ruler to HBO’s “The Regime,” Will Tracy is easy to shop for.

“I’m always somewhat embarrassed to say this, but my beach reading for the last 20 years has been about autocrats and authoritarian regimes,” the showrunner told IndieWire in an interview from before his miniseries debuted on Sunday, March 3. “Just get me a book about Stalin or Ceaușescu and I’ll be happy.”

Starring Kate Winslet as Chancellor Elena Vernham, the six-part political dramedy is a long-time coming from the “Succession” writer, also known for co-writing the culinary thriller “The Menu” with Seth Reiss. “The Regime” examines an unnamed country in central Europe positioned smack-dab in the middle of the contemporary political climate. New episodes air weekly at 9 p.m. Et — fittingly followed by “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.”

“If they look behind their shoulder, they see China and Russia, and...

The Regime Review
Image
"I am not ridiculous. I am very much not ridiculous." These words are uttered by the utterly ridiculous person at the center of HBO's The Regime. The character, portrayed by the perennially great Kate Winslet, is Elena Vernham, the Chancellor of an unnamed fictional European country. At the helm of her small but formidable domain, Elena is given free rein to enact her sovereignty, subjecting her country, and those within her immediate circle, to the tempestuous ebb and flow of her moods.

Sending televised missives from her headquarters -- a hotel that's been turned into her residence and office -- Elena delivers hollow platitudes about the state of the country. Hidden away through labyrinthine corridors and locked gold-leafed doors, Elena clearly has neither an idea of nor an interest in the general population. By extension, neither does the viewer.

Kate Winslet’s New HBO Miniseries Is The Perfect Show To Watch If You Liked 2022’s The Menu
Image
Kate Winslet's new political satire miniseries on HBO, following the success of The Menu, is a must-watch for fans of biting satire. The Regime, created by The Menu writer Will Tracy, features Kate Winslet in the lead role and explores political power dynamics in a fictional country. With only six episodes, The Regime offers a quick political conflict fix and continues HBO's success in producing sharp and satirical TV shows.

Kate Winslet is maintaining her HBO miniseries streak with a new political satire, which may find a loyal audience in fans of The Menu. While the movie was a modest success in theaters with an $80 million box office gross after premiering in December 2022, The Menu would become a massive streaming hit on Max and Hulu in 2023. The comedy horror movie was widely celebrated for its satirical humor, lead cast performances, and sharp writing, with audiences having plenty to discuss...

The Regime TV Review
Image
Plot: After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham has grown increasingly paranoid and unstable when she turns to a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak, as an unlikely confidant. As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor continues to grow, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in both the palace and the country fracturing around her.

Review: Politics, violence, sex, and humor are all elements that have made quality programming ranging from Game of Thrones to Veep. In The Regime, these elements are played for laughs as much as they are chills and provides a platform for Kate Winslet to deliver her most distinct role yet. As Elena Vernham, the Chancellor of a fictional European country, Winslet portrays an autocrat who thinks she has more power than she actually does. By showing the clearly decadent and sometimes silly decision-making, The Regime gives new meaning to...
