NFL, ESPN Clash Over On-Air Reports That Teams Were Given '5 Minutes' to Warm Up, After Player's Collapse
Image
The NFL says it has no idea why ESPN said on-air that the teams were given “five minutes” to warm up and possibly resume play, after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on field — to which the sports cabler countered, “we reported what we were told.”

During the first quarter of the Jan. 2, Monday Night Football match-up between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin stood up after a tackle, but collapsed right after. After being treated on the field by emergency medical personnel, Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center via ambulance, and the game was temporarily suspended,...

He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

Hamlin, 24, was taken off the field in an ambulance in the first quarter when he collapsed on the field. He suddenly fell on his back moments after standing up from a tackle of Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins and received CPR within minutes of collapsing. He was then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center accompanied by his parents who were watching the game from the stands,...

Image
The nascent XFL football league, now owned by superstar Dwayne Johnson, has set an R&d partnership with the NFL that is designed to “expand the game of football.”

Johnson and business partner Dany Garcia aim to open XFL training camps in January 2023. The partnership with the NFL does not involve games or teams specifically but is an agreement to work together in studying the game of football and collaborating on “forward-thinking physical and mental fitness programs for players,” per a joint press release issued Monday.

“We are extremely pleased to collaborate with the NFL in these important areas,” said Garcia, who is XFL co-owner and chairwoman. “We are bringing forward an XFL that is progressive and forward-thinking when it comes to innovation, leveraging the newest technology to enhance gameday experience. We have an open field for innovative rules to enhance in-game access. Sharing insights and practices between the XFL...

In a memo to teams obtained by the Associated Press, the NFL said suspensions are now a possibility for those coaches who do not wear masks.

“We will continue to address lack of compliance with accountability measures that may also include suspensions of persons involved, and/or the forfeiture of a draft choice(s),” wrote Troy Vincent, who oversees NFL football operations, as cited by the AP.

NFL to Discipline Coaches Who Don’t Wear Mask During Games

“Who makes the game?” former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling asked his girlfriend in 2014. “Do I make the game, or do they make the game?”

The NBA soon answered Sterling by banning him from the league for life shortly after that racist tirade, caught on tape, became public. Six years later, the Milwaukee Bucks have offered a more definitive reply. Before Wednesday night’s Game 5 of their playoff series with the Orlando Magic, Bucks players staged a wildcat strike in protest of police violence. Their focus was acutely on...

‘American Sniper’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Kyle Gallner, Ben Reed, Elise Robertson, Troy Vincent, Marnette Patterson, Billy Miller, Leonard Roberts, Reynaldo Gallegos, Kevin Lacz, Jake McDorman, Cory Hardrict, Eric Ladin | Written by Jason Hall | Directed by Clint Eastwood

I have a lot of time for the school of thought that suggests that you get out of a film only what you bring to it in the first place. I think this is particularly relevant for films that portray real life events and perhaps even more so for films that pertain to real life events that are relatively recent. American Sniper is Clint Eastwood’s depiction of the life of Chris Kyle, who became the deadliest sniper in Us history during the Iraq war. After seeing the film, I did a little reading around the subject and discovered Kyle to be a rather more controversial subject than you might expect based solely on the film.
