Tom Cruise’s $286 Million Sci-Fi Epic He Says Is “Full of Extraordinary Twists and Turns” Finally Returns to Streaming
Image
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning has been the talk of the town the last few weeks after collecting over $300 million at the box office in under 10 days, but one of Tom Cruise’s older (and underrated) flicks has finally returned to streaming. Cruise stars alongside Morgan Freeman and Olga Kurylenko in Oblivion, the 2013 sci-fi thriller following a man’s battle to save mankind after a mysterious stranger’s arrival. Oblivion had previously been absent from streaming since it left Netflix at the end of last year, but Prime Video has resolved this by making the film available to watch for all subscribers at the start of this month. The film earned a “rotten” 53% from critics and a 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $286 million at the box office against a $120 million budget.

During a 2013 interview with Film4, Cruise described Oblivion as a film full of “extraordinary twists and turns.

'Severance' and Dichen Lachman Fans Can Stream Emmy-Nominated 'Last Resort'
Image
When she first appeared as Ms. Casey on Apple TV+'s acclaimed sci-fi satire Severance, Dichen Lachman left quite an impression despite her limited screen time. To some viewers, it might have seemed like she appeared on the scene out of nowhere, as enigmatic and unknown as her character. But while Severance is clearly a big step in her career, Lachman has been appearing on screens large and small for decades, beginning in her home country of Australia with a role in the long-running soap opera Neighbours.

Lachman made her debut stateside in 2009 in Joss Whedon's short-lived series Dollhouse, followed by a run of guest spots on some of the biggest shows of the era. Her next main role would come in 2012, on another series that was canceled before its time, the political thriller series Last Resort. Following the tense aftermath of a US Navy submarine's refusal to fire ballistic missiles at Pakistan,...

If You Like ‘The Night Agent,’ You Need To Watch Its Creator's Military Thriller Starring Andre Braugher
Image
Over a decade before he created Netflix’s hit show The Night Agent, Shawn Ryancreated the conspiracy thriller Last Resort, along with Karl Gajdusek for ABC. Like The Night Agent, Last Resort unravels a thrilling story about a setup executed by high-ranking government officials. The show is often even more bold and shocking than The Night Agent with its violent, high-stakes plot turns. The series starred the late Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) in one of his most underrated performances. Braugher played Captain Marcus Chaplin of the USS Colorado, who receives bizarre and mysterious orders to fire a missile on Pakistan and potentially initiate a new World War. By the end of the pilot, Chaplin and his crew are enemies of the state after being set up by an unknown entity. If they ever want to return home, the crew of the USS Colorado must prove their innocence...

'The Night Agent' Creator Made a Thrilling Military Drama in 'Last Resort'
Image
Quick LinksA Single Submarine Crew and a National Conspiracy in 'Last Resort'a Great Cast Elevates 'Last Resort''Last Resort,' 'The Night Agent,' and 'Lost'?

Creating TV programs since the early '90s, screenwriter Shawn Ryan admittedly took a while to make his way into the streaming world. The first step when it came to traversing digital platforms was when he made Mad Dogs for Prime Video in 2016, then The Get Down for Netflix a year later, and finally, The Night Agent for the same subscription service in 2023. This ongoing thriller about a night operator uncovering a conspiracy at the White House, starring Gabriel Basso in the lead role, seems to have hit the best of strides for Ryan. The first season was not only nominated by numerous recognizable award associations (such as the Critics' Choice Super Awards and the People's Choice Awards) but has also already...

Oblivion with Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman is Streaming on Netflix in November
Image
Netflix will bring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freemans divisive sci-fi action thriller Oblivion to a new streaming home on November 1. Joseph Kosinskis 2013 movie saw him collaborating with Cruise several years before they broke the box office with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, and while the film did not garner the incredible reviews or theatrical gross of that sequel, it is still a movie that begs to be reassessed. The addition of the film to Netflixs library makes it the perfect time to do just that.

Set in the year 2077, Oblivion takes place on an Earth that has been devastated by an alien invasion decades earlier. The planet has been abandoned other than a few remaining outposts, and any remaining resources are being harvested for use on Titan where the remnants of humanity live. Cruise plays Jack Harper, a drone repair technician who, along with his partner Victoria (Andrea Riseborough), must ensure...

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Trailer Welcomes You Back to Hawkins
“Stranger Things” is gearing up for its endgame with the official trailer for its upcoming fourth season.

The smash-hit Netflix series, which follows the citizens of Hawkins, Ind. as they fight against supernatural phenomena that plagues the town, last premiered new episodes in 2019, when the third season dropped on July 4. Said third season ended on a series of changes for the central characters of the show, with police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) seemingly dying and the Byers family moving away from the town.

Filming for the fourth season initially began in early 2020, but production faced numerous delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past year, Netflix has released various teasers for the fourth season. The first, released Feb. 14, 2020, revealed that Hopper survived the climax of Season 3, and is now alive and imprisoned in Russia. Review: The King’s Man
Image
Once upon a time, Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons produced a cheeky series called The Secret Service, which got turned into a fun film called Kingsman. While the comics remain fun reads, the film series has deteriorated when left entirely in Matthew Vaughn’s hands. He’s good filmmaker as witnessed by Kingsman and the underrated Stardust. But, the tone and satire of the spy genre that infused the comic is missing, especially from the prequel installment The King’s Man.

Out now from 20th Century Home Entertainment, the film failed to engage audiences when it was released during the holiday and has appeared on streaming and disc in rapid fashion. What this portends for the series remains classified.

‘The King’s Man’ Review (Disney+)
Image
Stars: Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Djimon Hounsou, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode, Daniel Bruhl, Harris Dickinson | Written by Matthew Vaughn, Karl Gajdusek | Directed by Matthew Vaughn

The first Kingsman movie, The Secret Service, almost came out of nowhere and became one of my favourite movies. Of course, I’d already loved Matthew Vaughns films previously (especially Kick-Ass) but Kingsman felt like something completely new, something I’d never seen before. A few years later and its sequel The Golden Circle was bigger, bolder and a lot more ridiculous. It wasn’t as well-liked though, although Elton John role aside, I really enjoyed it. A further three films have been announced for the franchise, with the first The King’s Man, a prequel to the previous movies set in the early 1900s.

Once again this franchise brings along a star-studded and excellent cast. Included here are Ralph Fiennes (in the ‘Colin Firth...

On-Air Film Review: Swashbuckling Rafe! ‘The King’s Man’
Image
Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on Wbgr-fm on December 23rd, 2021, reviewing the third film in the Kingsmen series, an origin prequel entitled “The King’s Men,” currently in theaters.

Rating: 3.5/5.0

This third film in the Kingsmen series is surprisingly tamer in fantasy than the first two. Ralph Fiennes is Duke Orlando Oxford, who loses his wife in the Boer War of the early 20th Century. He raises his son Conrad (Harris Dickinson) on his own, but the boy laments his inability to be like his adventurous father. When World War I comes along, all that changes, and the Duke is forced into a mission that has implications for World History.

“The King’s Man” is currently in theaters, beginning December 22nd. Featuring Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Harris Dickinson, Djimon Hounsou and Matthew Goode. Screenplay adapted by Matthew Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek.

Movie Review: The King’s Man
Image
The King’s Man is a prequel to the earlier films in the series that began with Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and continued with Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017). The release of this latest film in the series was delayed considerably due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is hard to understand exactly why the end product was ultimately released as it proves to be completely devoid of the wit and humor that made the first two films the unexpected gems that they were.

In The King’s Man, Orlando, the Duke of Oxford (Ralph Fiennes) promises his wife on her deathbed that he will keep their son safe. To do so, Orlando devotes his life to pacifism and guides his son to do the same. However, as World War I begins to gather momentum, pulling more and more countries into the mix, the now older Conrad (Harris Dickinson) feels the pull to...

The King’S Man – Review
Image
Ralph Fiennes as Oxford in 20th Century Studios’ The King’S Man. Photo Credit: Courtesy of 20th Century Studios. © 2020 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

So, here’s a bit of a “flip”. This pre-holiday Wednesday sees the release of two sequels, Sing 2 and Matrix: The Resurrection (not that unusual for the big studios). So, what almost “balances” them out? Why a “prequel”, naturally. And though you’d think that the first film of this franchise back in 2015 would count as an “origin” story, this one goes further back. Much further, nearly a hundred years really. In that first flick, a super-secret society was in full operation, but we didn’t know how or when it was first formed. Well, wonder no more. It’s time to head down for a “fitting” and learn about that original “sharp-dressed man”, The King’S Man.

It all really begins near...

‘The King’s Man’ Review: Matthew Vaughn’s Spy Prequel Is Incoherent, Cynical, and Dull
Image
Guns, suits, and kicking ass. Those are the three pillars of Matthew Vaughn’s “Kingsman” series, which tracks the adventures of a secret spy organization that stops various global cabals from destroying the world via cartoonish ultra-violence and a devilish sense of humor. Both “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and its sequel “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” revel in an obnoxious combination of mid-century British aesthetics with new school juvenilia. Vaughn’s crass version of wink-wink sophistication ostensibly updates the Bond playbook for a coarser world, but it mostly telegraphs his supposed cleverness and nostalgia-happy referentiality, all of which is bathed in excessive blood and profanity. The films’ box-office success indicates the obvious: nihilistic provocations are a cheap, but effective high.

Vaughn’s latest entry into the series is a prequel, the long-delayed “The King’s Man,” which traces the early-20th century origins of the Kingsman organization. While it explains how the Kingsman organization was founded,...

It's a wild ride for the agency who is formed to stand against a cabal plotting a war to wipe out millions. As the Duke of Oxford says, "Throughout time, our people robbed, lied, and killed. Mark Strong Won't Rule Out Merlin's Return to the Kingsman Franchise
Image
Despite seemingly being blown into a million pieces during the events of 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Mark Strong refuses to rule out a return to the action-packed spy franchise. Strong, who played the Kingsman's technical support operative, Merlin, in both installments, feels that anything can happen in this particular comic book movie universe, which he hopes leaves the door ajar for his resurrection.

"I don't know. I'd love to because I love making those movies. I thought that triumvirate, that connection of me, Colin (Firth), and Taron (Egerton) was a great little gang. I was quite sad, I think, as were a lot of people, when he comes to his dynamic end, shall we say? At the end of the second one. I think there is a third one, and that universe, anything can happen as you well know. I mean, Colin got shot in the eye and comes back and he's fine.

However, in a rare move, The King's Man has now been brought forward slightly and is now set to be released on February 12th, 2021 instead.

The King's Man finds a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather together to plot a war to wipe out millions of people and destroy humanity. One man and his protégé must race against time to stop them, as the movie reveals the origin of the elite secret service. The King's Man is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who wrote the screenplay with Karl Gajdusek. The...

‘The King’s Man’ Theatrical Release Pushed Back to 2021
Image
“The King’s Man,” a prequel in the “Kingsman” spy series, has pushed back its theatrical debut. The movie was expected to hit theaters on Sept. 18, and will now be unveiled five months later on Feb. 26, 2021.

Though Disney is still moving ahead with big-screen releases for other titles, such as “The New Mutants” and “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” the decision to delay “The King’s Man” is not entirely surprising considering the studio had done little to no promotion for the movie. Given the rapidly changing nature of the pandemic, the studio plans to assess new releases on a case-by-case basis.

Along with Thursday’s news, Disney announced that Searchlight drama “Nomadland” — directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Frances McDormand — is now scheduled for Dec. 4 and Pixar’s animated adventure “Luca” will bow on June 18, 2021.

Disney has shifted around nearly its entire slate amid the coronavirus crisis, shelving some movies until 2021 or later,...

New The King's Man Images Tease Secret Service Origins in Upcoming Prequel
Image
A couple of new images from director Matthew Vaughn's upcoming war epic, The King's Man, have now been released, showcasing our dapper heroes as they come together to create the world-saving secret service team. Jumping back a few decades, The King's Man will detail how the organization began, led by Ralph Fiennes as the original King's Man, the Duke of Oxford, and Harris Dickinson is his headstrong son, Conrad.

The first image depicts Fiennes and Dickinson during what looks to be a pretty intense conversation with Lord Kitchener, played by Charles Dance, and his aide-de-camp, Maximillian Morton, Matthew Goode. The image also finds the characters standing in a very familiar setting, the Kingsman tailor shop. The second image features Polly played by Gemma Arterton, and Djimon Hounsou's character, Shola, discussing what to do with Rhys Ifans' villainous Grigori Rasputin.

Along with the images, Vaughn did also divulge some...

New The King's Man Images Take Aim with Ralph Fiennes and Gemma Arterton
Image
A couple of new images have been released for upcoming comic book action movie, The King's Man. Matthew Vaughn's 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service proved to be a much-needed adrenaline shot for the spy genre, and though the sequel, Kingsman: The Secret Service, sadly failed to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, this year's The King's Man is taking to the franchise in an excitingly different direction.

Kingsman 3 Seeds Will Be Planted in The King's Man Prequel Coming This September
Image
Director Matthew Vaughn has confirmed that the upcoming prequel The King's Man will lay the foundations for Kingsman 3. The King's Man is travelling back in time for this next installment, with the movie taking place during World War I and establishing how the origin of the secret service. Despite going back decades, and involving a whole host of brand-new character, Vaughn did reveal that the movie will help set up the future of the franchise when it returns to the main timeline.

"We've put seeds for what's going to happen in Kingsman 3 all the way back into this. And it's going to be very different."

With critics and audiences alike finding the second movie in the series, 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, to merely be a lesser retread of the first movie, it is exciting to hear that The King's Man will be a decisively different experience. It...

Ralph Fiennes, Djimon Hounsou, Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, and Harris Dickinson in The King's Man (2021)
The King’s Man Trailer Teases a Refined but Brutal Prequel
Ralph Fiennes, Djimon Hounsou, Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, and Harris Dickinson in The King's Man (2021)
The full trailer for The King’s Man has arrived, showcasing director Matthew Vaughn’s World War I-era origin prequel to the Kingsman film franchise, adapting Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar’s comic book series. Like the present-set films that preceded it, The King’s Man wears on its sleeve an action-packed over-the-top nature, except this time drawing upon historical elements to concoct a quasi-history for the formation of the franchise’s eponymous haberdashery-hidden spy organization.

With that said, check out the new trailer for The King’s Man just below!

“We are the first independent intelligence agency. Refined, but brutal. Civilized, but merciless.”

Indeed, the trailer showcases familiar Bond-esque imagery with a secret meeting of a rough-looking (steampunk-esque) sinister cabal—special membership rings and all—contrasting with real-life people and concepts, be it Rasputin, (ultimately successful) assassination attempts on Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the early WWI sinking of the Rms Lusitania and gunblades—well,...

‘The King’s Man’ Trailer Promises a ‘Refined but Brutal’ Origin Story for the Kingsmen (Video)
Ralph Fiennes, Djimon Hounsou, Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, and Harris Dickinson in The King's Man (2021)
20th Century Studios’ new trailer for “The King’s Man,” the upcoming prequel to the “Kingsmen” films, shows how the secret British spy agency came to be in the midst of the death and destruction of World War I.

The trailer features Ralph Fiennes as the Duke of Oxford, who brings his idealistic son Conrad (Matthew Goode) into the Kingsmen in much the same way that Harry Hart would take Eggsy under his wing nearly a century later. With the help of fellow agents like the sophisticated Polly (Gemma Atherton), the Duke and Conrad must foil a plan by the world’s worst tyrants to exterminate millions of people, with Grigori Rasputin (Rhys Ifans) serving as the Duke’s biggest foe.

New The King's Man Trailer Is Here, Kingsman Prequel Hits Theaters This Fall
Image
The fate of The King's Man had been a little bit up in the air, and some believed Disney might be bringing this Fox acquisition to one of their streaming services. And holding to that promise, they have also debuted a new trailer.

After watching the brand-new, action-packed The King's Man trailer, you can check out the new poster below. Netflix’s ‘The Last Days of American Crime’ Earns Rare 0% Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The critics, so far, have a unanimous verdict: “The Last Days of American Crime,” Netflix’s new sci-fi/heist mashup that features scenes of police brutality and other gratuitous violence, is one of the worst films… ever.

The movie, released on Netflix June 5, has a 0% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means none of the 26 critical reviews tabulated by the site were positive. Overall, the site assigned a 2.27 out of 10 rating for the film across reviewers.

“The Last Days of American Crime” joins only 42 other films (with at least 20 reviews) to receive the dubious distinction of getting a Tomatometer goose egg, including Netflix’s “The Ridiculous 6” from Adam Sandler, “Gotti” starring John Travolta, 1990’s “Problem Child,” “Staying Alive” (also starring Travolta) and “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.”

The consensus is that, with protests nationwide over the police killing of George Floyd, the timing of the movie’s release is a disaster.

Netflix's Last Days of American Crime Scores Rare 0% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Netflix's latest original movie has joined an exclusive club, albeit one that the company would undoubtedly prefer not to be associated with. The Last Days of American Crime, which hit the streaming service recently, has earned a rare 0 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It is the first movie to accomplish this since both John Travolta's Gotti and Amber Heard's London Fields did it in 2018.

The Last Days of American Crime, which was directed by Olivier Megaton, as of this writing, has 21 reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes and not a single one of them is positive. The audience score isn't much better as it currently sits at a measly 24 percent. For whatever it may be worth, Megaton's highest-rated movie on the site is 2008's Transporter 3, which sits at 39 percent. In any case, this is probably not what Netflix had in mind when they signed...

‘The Last Days of American Crime’ Review: Olivier Megaton’s Netflix Heist Movie Is So Bad It Should Be Illegal
Image
It’s hard to imagine that the definitive studio movie about Trump-era authoritarianism would come from the guy behind “Taken 2” and “Taken 3,” but that sure didn’t stop him from trying. Of course, you should never doubt the delusional self-confidence of a man who changed his last name to “Megaton,” just as you should never put your faith in a filmmaker who’s basically the Mr. Brainwash to Luc Besson’s Banksy.

Here’s the thing about “The Last Days of American Crime” — you don’t have time for this shit. None of us do. And that’s not just because Olivier Megaton’s agonizingly dull Netflix feature is 149 minutes long (a crime unto itself). While there’s never really a good moment to introduce a bad movie into the world, . We’re all for escapism where you can get it — this critic has streamed an ungodly amount...

‘The Last Days of American Crime’: Film Review
Image
These days, searching for solace amid a global pandemic and nationwide protests, film critics frequently find themselves referring to “the movie we need right now,” lavishing that clichéd description on anything that offers the slightest comfort or context in a world turned upside down. Let me assure you, Netflix’s “The Last Days of American Crime” is not that movie. In fact, this gory, excessive and frequently incoherent near-future heist film from Luc Besson protégé Olivier Megaton is pretty much the opposite: It’s an offensive eyesore in which

Perhaps some would take comfort in such a distraction, although for anyone paying the slightest attention to what’s going on in the real world, it’s hard to stomach a film that so frivolously engages with circumstances in which overzealous police are no longer necessary. That radical advance comes thanks to something called the American Peace Initiative, a “controversial” new...

The Last Days of American Crime Trailer and Release Date on Netflix
Olivier Megaton
Shakespearean Transformer Olivier Megaton is back with a brand new actioner. The Versailles-born director of Taken 2 and Taken 3 will bring his latest cars-and-shooting movie to Netflix in June, and the streaming service has just released a first trailer for it.

The Last Days of American Crime is based on the 2009 Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini graphic novel, and has been adapted for the screen by Oblivion scribe Karl Gajdusek. It’s got a decent cast, too – The Assassination of Gianni Versace‘s Edgar Ramírez leads the pack alongside Anna Brewster (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) with a surprising appearance from Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Pitt, who appears to be firing on all cylinders at Full Michael Pitt. That just so happens to be our favorite level of Michael Pitt, so we’ll probably have to check this one out.

An official synopsis from Netflix lies yonder:

The Last Days of American Crime Trailer Plots the Heist of the Century on Netflix
Image
Netflix has released a new trailer for The Last Days of American Crime. This may not look like it on the surface, as it doesn't involve superpowered beings saving the world, but this serves as the latest comic book adaptation that the streaming service has taken on, inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini. As we can see from the trailer, this is poised to be a rather unique take on a heist movie.

The trailer for this Netflix original kicks off by showing us a world in the not-too-distant future. One that is ravaged by crime, where lawbreakers run rampant. That is, until the government begins using a unique method to stop these criminals dead in their tracks. A ragtag group of people on the wrong side of the law then bands together, for various reasons, to use this technology against...

Kingsman 3 Script Has Been Written Confirms Taron Egerton
Eggsy himself says that Kingsman: The Golden Circle will get the follow-up that was promised. While speaking at Ace Comic Con Midwest, Taron Egerton (Rocketman) confirmed a script for the final installment of Matthew Vaughn's initial Kingsman trilogy has already been written. Although he wasn't allowed to reveal much about Kingsman 3, the actor had this to say about his next stint in the Kingsman suit.

"It's a really neat idea. That plan, at the moment, is that we'd like to do another one, one more time."

When Vaughn chose Egerton as his Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, he was taking a bit of a risk. Taron Egerton was generally unknown at the time, but Kingsman sparked the young actor's career which now includes popular projects like Sing and its upcoming sequel, Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Rocketman in which he lended his voice and acting chops to portray music legend Elton John.
