Gayle King was somewhat caught off-guard by the request she received in her dressing room, even calling it “blackmail material.”
Her career as a television news anchor and reporter began in the early 1980s when she worked with local stations in Kansas and Connecticut.
Over 10 years ago, she joined CBS Mornings, where she continues to shine as one of the main anchors and hosts alongside Nate Burleson, Vladimir Duthiers, and Tony Dokoupil.
Like the competing morning program ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS Mornings had their TV personalities participate in a recent trend.
It involved a blast from the past to surprise the anchors when they weren’t expecting it.

Jericka Duncan will now anchor the Saturday and Sunday editions of CBS Weekend News.
Duncan has been anchor of the Sunday edition of the newscast since late 2020. Adriana Diaz, who anchored on Saturday, departed last month to co-host CBS Mornings Plus, the new third hour of the network’s morning show, along with Tony Dokoupil.
In a memo to staffers, Adrienne Roark, president of newsgathering and editorial for CBS News and Stations, wrote that Duncan “is often one of the first reporters on the scene when news breaks.” Duncan was in Georgia last month to interview students following a school shooting at Apalachee High School.
“Reporting those stories is never easy, but in every situation, Jericka forges real connections with the people and communities she covers — in moments of tragedy and triumph — allowing them to share their experiences authentically.”

Network morning show anchor chairs don’t become available very often, but when they do, they are arguably the most valuable seats in the house.
Despite the well-worn issues facing network TV news and entertainment (sports is a different story), the morning shows have remained beacons of relative stability. The anchors tend to stay, well, anchored, for years. And the morning shows, with their lifestyle focus, are still the cash cows that help to subsidize other less lucrative news programs.
So when changes are made, to the anchor rotation, to the format, to any piece of the morning show puzzle, it is a big deal.
Hoda Kotb’s looming exit from NBC’s Today show is arguably the biggest change to the morning show lineups in years, and the network will have a tall task to not only fill the anchor chairs on two very different shows (the two core...

Paramount Global’s CBS has officially announced an expansion hour for its flagship breakfast program, “CBS Mornings.”
Starting later this month, CBS stations in five major metropolitan areas will debut a third hour of CBS Mornings, called “CBS Mornings Plus,” hosted by Tony Dokoupil and Adriana Diaz.
The broadcast stations that will offer CBS Morning Plus are in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Detroit and Miami. In four of the five markets, Paramount owns two stations — one offering CBS, and another that is affiliated with the CW Network or otherwise independent. It wasn’t clear from the announcement if CBS Mornings Plus will air on the secondary stations owned by Paramount or the main CBS station in each market.
In addition to the five markets, CBS Mornings Plus will stream on CBS News 24/7, the free, ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) news channel launched by CBS News nearly a decade ago.

“CBS Mornings” is in the process of expanding with a third hour slated to launch in September, as the network continues to overhaul its programming lineup.
The additional hour will initially launch in select markets and on the network’s streaming platform CBS News 24/7. This comes just weeks after Norah O’Donnell announced she would be stepping down from her role as anchor and managing editor of “CBS Evening News.”
The programming expansion was announced by “CBS Mornings” executive producer Shawna Thomas in a memo to staff on Friday. Thomas said that while the expansion is still in the developmental phase, “it won’t look or feel exactly like the first two hours.”
“Yes, the talent will be a little different and the name will be a little different, but it will still be the smart and engaging content everyone expects from the CBS Mornings family,” Thomas added.
