Giannini Unveiled as Judge Gladwell in Italy’s “Bunny-Man”
Image
A new photograph from the Rome set of “Bunny-Man” reveals Oscar nominee Giancarlo Giannini cloaked in judicial robes as the corrupt Judge Gladwell, supplying the first official look at Italy’s latest high-profile genre project.

The thriller, produced and fronted by Andrea Iervolino, assembles Tatiana Luter, James Franco, Bella Thorne, Mike Tyson, Michele Morrone, Franco Nero and Ana Golja around Giannini.

According to production notes, the story follows a multimillionaire rap star who hides behind a rabbit mask to avenge the online-circulated assault that led his sister to take her own life, blending vigilante action with giallo-style psychology.

Cameras rolled in late July at Cinecittà before moving to Turin streets, with trade listings marking 28 February 2025 as the final day of principal photography. While press releases omit a director, festival databases point to Giorgio Bruno, and IMDbPro credits Daniel H. Friedman, Iervolino and Alessandra Starr Ward with the script.

Bella Thorne Reveals Her 'Saint Clare' Influences
Image
Add Bella Thorne to the list of former Disney stars who continue to shine in Hollywood with leading roles in unique projects. After her standout supporting turn in the monochrome mindmelt feature Divinity, Thorne's new thriller Saint Clare is now available to the masses. It made the festival rounds and shocked viewers as they witnessed Thorne's edgy turn as the eponymous college-aged killer who is blessed with discreetly terminating the wicked in today's corrupt world. If that means strangling a deadly creeper in his own car in broad daylight, well, this is God's plan, according to Clare. MovieWeb recently caught up with the actor and singer while Thorne was promoting Saint Clare, which is based on the celebrated Clare Bleecker novels. As it turns out, the subject matter is fueled by a surprising influence that dates back centuries.

"Once we figured out that we were kind of meshing a...

After a Desert Car Chase Where a Mystery Man Pursued Her at 100 Mph, Izabel Pakzad Turned the ‘Terrifying’ Drive Into a Ferocious Directorial Debut — Fantasia
Image
While Izabel Pakzad’s “Find Your Friends” joins Hollywood’s storied history of films inspired by true events, the events in question are rarely this jaw-dropping.

Years ago, Pakzad and her friends had planned a “wild girls trip” in Joshua Tree. Although their arrival had been met with “strange interactions with men” in and around their Airbnb, they focused on partying and had a good time. Pakzad’s last night at the house was cut short as she had to head back to L.A. for a meeting the next day, yet something unforgettable happened before she could leave town.

“It was 1:30 or 2 in the morning,” she says. “I had one other girlfriend come with me, and we got into the car. The Airbnb was on a dead end, of course. So you pull out of the driveway, and there’s this green Mustang that’s waiting outside on the street.

Rebecca De Mornay Weighs in on 'Hand That Rocks the Cradle' Remake
Image
Fans of the 1992 thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle might have been surprised in recent years to learn that a remake is in the works. The hit film, about a devastated widow who seeks revenge after her deceased husband is exposed for past crimes, gave Rebecca De Mornay some of her most memorable screen moments when it was released in 1992; now, more than 30 years later, the celebrated actor is still staying busy in Hollywood. The upcoming version stars Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka), and MovieWeb recently caught up with De Mornay to gauge how she feels about her successful '90s film being remade with new faces.

"I was quite perturbed when I heard that... sort of possessive, like, 'Wait a second, that's my role!'" De Mornay told MovieWeb while she was promoting her new movie Saint Clare. "But, you know, I actually am flattered.

Like most teenagers, Clare Bleeker (Bella Thorne) is a normal teenage girl who harbours secrets. But, unlike most teenagers, Clare is a serial killer intent on ending the lives of predacious men. But Clare is not your garden-variety sociopath, as she believes what she is doing is in the service of God. As she reminds us: “Everything I have said and done has been in the hands of God. I was born to do this. I am not afraid.” Accompanied by Bob (Frank Whaley), an apparition of one of Bleeker’s past victims, Clare journeys through the 90-minute runtime, lurching from disaster to the next as she descends into the seedy criminal underworld.

Saint Clare review – Bella Thorne takes out predatory creeps in feminist revenge horror
Bella Thorne
Thorne plays a girl hunting down sexual abusers in what could be an interesting premise were it not seemingly made for viewers who don’t like really women, or men

Former Disney child star Bella Thorne, now more notorious for a kerfuffle around her OnlyFans account, stars in this muddled horror feature as a young woman called Clare who is convinced she is on a mission from God to slay sex abusers and other bad men. (The fact that university student Clare looks so pretty is a distinct advantage in her quest for deserving victims.) Like predatory creep Joe (Bart Johnson), they find her seemingly by accident, pre-equipped with stock photo prints of their mythical children and hip-flasks full of spiked booze, hoping to dupe her into getting in the car so she can be raped or worse. But Clare has mad self-defence skills, homicidal instincts of her own, and...

Rebecca De Mornay Reveals Why Stephen King Hated Shelley Duvall's 'The Shining' Performance
Image
More than 40 years after starring alongside Tom Cruise in Risky Business, Rebecca De Mornay is still stealing scenes on the big screen. Her new thriller Saint Clare is a far cry from the 1983 comedy classic, being a thriller and all, but De Mornay is no stranger to the dark and edgy stuff. Back in 1997, she portrayed Wendy Torrance in Stephen King's own adaptation of his iconic novel The Shining. This time, it was for the small screen, released on ABC in three episodes, and starkly different from Stanley Kubrick's film version that hit theaters in 1980. MovieWeb recently spoke with De Mornay while she was promoting her new movie. The longtime actress also took time to reflect on her experience working with King and portraying the iconic character Wendy Torrance that had been tackled by the late Shelley Duvall in Kubrick's film. De Mornay also offered insight into...

Exclusive interview: Mitzi Peirone on ‘Saint Clare’
Image
When Mitzi Peirone burst onto the genre scene with her daring debut Braid, she was heralded as a bold new voice in psychological horror. Now, the award-winning Italian director returns with Saint Clare, a haunting and blood-soaked Southern Gothic thriller that has already turning heads. Starring Bella Thorne in a career-defining performance, the film blends themes of morality, faith, and female rage into a surreal tale of vengeance that’s as thought-provoking as it is visceral.

Based on Don Roff’s novel Clare at Sixteen, Saint Clare follows a young woman who believes she’s an instrument of God, dispatching those with evil intentions in her small town. But as her violent quest for retribution deepens, so too does the darkness surrounding her. With a supporting cast that includes Ryan Phillippe, Rebecca DeMornay and Frank Whaley, an original score from Zola Jesus, and a screenplay co-written by Guinevere Turner (American...

‘Saint Clare’ Review: Bella Thorne Kills Bad Guys in a Flashy but Garbled Thriller
Image
Mitzi Peirone’s 2018 first feature “Braid” was a series of kinky dress-up games posing as a thriller, one that valued style over substance to such a point that there was almost nothing solid for a viewer to hang onto. Her sophomore effort, “Saint Clare,” takes a step in the right direction, with Guinevere Turner onboard as co-writer in adapting Don Roff’s 2021 novel “Clare at Sixteen.” That injects a greater degree of narrative spine to this vehicle for Bella Thorne as a young woman in a small town uniquely equipped to deal with a plague of possibly lethal disappearances — she is a sort of serial killer herself, albeit one who only preys upon predators.

The book (which commenced an ongoing series) has been described as a “delightfully dark teen horror comedy” reminiscent of “Heathers.” Peirone’s film doesn’t hit that tonal mark, however, aiming instead for an unsteady combination of quasi-slasher,...

Don Roff
Saint Clare

Clare is a vegan, an animal lover, a good student and a devout Catholic. She’s also a sociopath, haunted by the first man she killed but always ready to kill again. Mitzi Peirone’s adaptation of Don Roff’s book, under the title Saint Clare, looks at what happens when this morally complex young woman - played by Bella Thorne - finds herself in a new neighbourhood where other young women are disappearing at an alarming rate. It’s an arresting piece of cinema, with some great action scenes and darkly comic sequences alongside gorgeous hagiographic imagery. Some months ago I had the opportunity to talk to the director about it, and this was the result.

“I actually didn't know of the book [before taking on the project],” Mitzi says, already buzzing with excitement when we’ve barely begun. “The title is Clare At 16. Being a 33 year old woman,...

Saint Clare’s Mitzi Peirone Discusses the Bella Thorne Film Being More Than the Female Dexter
Image
The road to Saint Clare was paved with different intentions. Anyone who has followed the story knows that the adaptation of Don Roff’s Clare at 16 novel went through various stages before reaching its final form. At one point, Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch was attached to star, while Mark Pavia had been eyed to write and direct the film. Ultimately, Petsch and Pavia departed the project, as Bella Thorne jumped on board to play Clare Bleecker, and Mitzi Peirone signed on to direct and co-write the script with Guinevere Turner. The tale of different drafts Frank Whaley as “Bob” in the mystery thriller Saint Clare, a Quiver Distribution release. Photo courtesy of Quiver Distribution As Peirone revealed, though, Turner and her never wrote the script together. They penned separate drafts, as Peirone searched for the story about who Clare Bleecker truly is and what shapes her into becoming a serial killer.

Saint Clare Review: A Beautiful, Empty Reliquary
Image
There is a particular kind of quiet that precedes violence. In Saint Clare, it is the quiet of a pious college student, Clare Beecker, whose devotion to Catholicism seems absolute. She lives in a small town, a place seemingly scrubbed of any real sin, and she moves through it with an unassuming grace. Yet, this placid surface conceals a brutal truth.

Clare is a vigilante, a self-appointed executioner of predators, channeling her sociopathy into what she perceives as a divine mission. She recites the words of Joan of Arc—“Everything I have said and done has been in the hands of God”—and she means it.

This equilibrium of faith and bloodshed is disrupted when Clare notices a pattern of missing young women, a local tragedy met with institutional indifference. The silence of the authorities becomes her call to action, pushing her from isolated acts of righteous slaughter into a systematic investigation.

Saint Clare Movie Review – Bella Thorne’s Thriller Tries Hard But Does Too Much
Image
Saint Clare isn’t what anyone expects. The film based on Don Roff’s novel Clare at Sixteen isn’t what many readers referred to as the teenage Dexter Morgan or Patrick Bateman. It’s funny. It’s tragic. It’s confusing. So, what is Saint Clare about? Good question. There’s a lot going on here. Teenager Clare Bleecker (Bella Thorne) attends Catholic school and lives with her grandmother, Gigi Newberry (Rebecca De Mornay), in a small town, but she’s also a serial killer, putting down people who do very bad things. Clare discovers a link between a group of missing girls and begins her own investigation after the authorities fail to act. This isn’t the only issue she needs to deal with, as Mailman Bob (Frank Whaley) – one of Clare’s victims from the past – resurfaces in her life as the embodiment of her conscience. Then,...

‘Saint Clare’ Review: Mitzi Peirone’s Over-Directed and Indecisive Horror Thriller
Image
The logline for Mitzi Peirone’s Saint Clare describes it as a story about a devoutly religious but also very murderous Catholic schoolgirl with dissociative identity disorder, and you could say that the film itself suffers from a similar malady. Namely, it seems unsure whether it wants to be a campy slice of macabre in the vein of Dexter and American Horror Story, where the religious imagery and bloodletting are played for both chills and thrills, or a genuine rumination on death, faith, and the morality of doing bad things to bad people.

Saint Clare’s split personality is apparent from the start, with an opening sequence that cuts between Clare (Bella Thorne) in her bedroom, solemnly reciting Joan of Arc quotes about divine purpose, and her being picked up by Joe (Bart Johnson), surely the world’s most obvious pedophile, while waiting for the school bus. When she returns...

Every Disgusting Claim Charlie Puth Has Made About Bella Thorne After She Allegedly Refused to Sleep With Him
Image
When Charlie Puth publicly aired his dirty laundry about Bella Thorne, accusing her of cheating and manipulation after she allegedly refused to sleep with him, the fallout was anything but quiet. Their brief 2016 alleged romance turned into a toxic spectacle of tweets, denials, and bitter barbs thrown in public (per Page Six).

For a bit of background: while Puth and Thorne were never officially an item, things got messy when he strongly hinted she two-timed her ex, Tyler Posey, during their brief romance. But Thorne later insisted that the pictures didn’t tell the full story. Meanwhile, Puth’s accusations paint a picture that’s as sordid as it is disturbing.

Thorne, on the other hand, has vehemently denied cheating and recently accused Puth of fabricating stories to smear her name, claiming his lies sparked a “hate train” simply because she declined his advances.

Yeah I mean .. he lied to...

Bella Thorne Says Charlie Puth 'Started a Hate Train' Against Her Because She Wouldn't Sleep With Him
Image
Bella Thorne is speaking out with a new claim about Charlie Puth, who she was briefly linked to in late 2016.

The 27-year-old actress alleged that Charlie “lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train” because she wouldn’t sleep with him.

If you didn’t know, Bella and Charlie were linked in December 2016 after he brought her to Jingle Ball in Miami as his guest and serenaded her from stage. Before the concert, they were spotted on the beach together.

Days later, Charlie publicly accused Bella of cheating on her ex-boyfriend Tyler Posey, even though they had already broken up. He seemingly saw an old news article and assumed she was still with him.

Charlie took to Twitter at the time and wrote, “I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one should have their heart messed with like this,...

Joshua Rubin: Original "28 Years Later" Treatment: "18 years ago, I was asked to develop a concept for the final chapter of the 28 Days Later trilogy. I'm finally sharing my original treatment...

For those new to the blog, this is Joshua Rubin, video game writer and founder of Strange Land Comics. But long before comics and video games, I had built a decade-long career as a screenwriter in Hollywood.

It was back in 2007 when DNA Films in London — the producers of Danny Boyle’s 28 Days/Weeks saga — invited me to brainstorm a final chapter to the series.

It was one of those rare gigs where I got to go all-in — not pitching a sequel, but a true ending. Bigger in scale, deeper in theme. A film that could expand the world and still feel intimate and raw, like the first one did.

Now, almost two decades later, a new 28 Years...

Posterized July 2025: Together, Eddington, Drowning Dry & More
Image
Sure, July is bringing back the Fantastic Four (July 25), Superman (July 11), and Jurassic Park (July 2), but they aren’t the reboot that caught my eye. No, that distinction belongs to Rihanna is Smurfette (July 18).

Not only is it wild that this franchise still believes itself to be relevant, but the number of times it’s been resuscitated this century has me wondering if the world would somehow end the second Gargamel eradicated his tiny blue nemeses. Paramount might literally be keeping us alive. Or prisoner. I’m not certain which.

Because there’s obviously enough of a brand recognition problem to feel comfortable intentionally burying the actual title of Smurfs on the page (if it’s included at all) so Rihanna’s credit can earn our focus. She’s their main selling point, so you can’t blame them for leaning in.

Everything old is new again––if a global phenomenon is hocking sales.

Saint Clare trailer: Bella Thorne stars in serial killer thriller reaching theatres in July
Image
Back in 2019, it was announced that Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch had signed on to star in a horror comedy called Clare at 16, which was going to be written and directed by Mark Pavia, the filmmaker behind the 1997 Stephen King adaptation The Night Flier, and based on a novel by Don Roff. That iteration of the project didn’t make it into production, and in 2022 Bella Thorne (Infamous) not only signed on to star in the title role of what was now being called Saint Clare, but she also brought Dying to Play (a.k.a. Braid) director Mitzi Peirone on board to write and direct the film. Earlier this week, we learned that Quiver Distribution has acquired the North American rights to the film and are planning to give Saint Clare a VOD and limited theatrical release on July 18th. And with that date swiftly approaching, a trailer for the...

Based on Don Roff’s novel Clare At 16, the film stars Bella Thorne as Clare Bleecker, a devout Catholic school pupil whose veneer of piety conceals a sociopathic alter ego. 101 Films has acquired the UK rights and will release the film on digital from 21 July 2025.

Thorne is joined by Rebecca De Mornay as Clare’s steely grandmother, Ryan Phillippe as Timmons, a local boy drawn into Clare’s deadly orbit, and Frank Whaley as Mailman Bob, whose fateful deliveries set Clare on her path. Bart Johnson doubles as the twin brothers Joe and Randall, while Dylan Flashner and Jan Luis Castellanos play the town’s unsuspecting youth caught in Clare’s murderous crusade.

Saint Clare: Bella Thorne serial killer thriller gets a July release date
Now, Variety reports that Quiver Distribution has acquired the North American rights to the film and are planning to give Saint Clare a VOD and limited theatrical release on July 18th.

The Don Roff novel told the following story: The small town of...

However, now that rumors of her new romance are swirling online, the singer is once again at the center of the press’ attention.

How Did “Nepo Baby” Patrick Schwarzenegger Get His 1st Role in Hollywood, Was It Because of Arnold?
Image
Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Hollywood journey began quite early with a modest role at only 10 years old, playing “Sports Kid Number 3” in the 2006 film The Benchwarmers. Despite being the son of a legendary actor and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver, Patrick’s introduction to Hollywood wasn’t a direct result of his father’s reputation.

It was Patrick’s own interests and initiative that led him to this early role. Throughout his childhood, he accompanied his father to movie sets, sparking his fascination with the industry. He pursued acting earnestly, got a degree in Business with a minor in cinematic arts at the University of Southern California. It was Patrick’s commitment to honing his craft that drove his initial foray into acting.

Roman Polanski, Vincent Gallo, and Panos Cosmatos Plan New Features
Image
Nearly 92, more controversial than ever, and coming off perhaps the least-liked film of his career, Roman Polanski has not entirely been expected to direct again. Yet he, still among our greatest filmmakers, doesn’t seem content to let The Palace‘s final shot close his story. (That will mean nothing if you’ve not seen the film; those who have understand fully.) Polanski recently met with Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Maciej Wróbel, who revealed that their conversation concerned “plans related to the production of a new film” that will shoot in the director’s native country. [Wiadomości Gazeta]

As Polanski tends to keep a low profile, we’ve no pre-existing details on what it might be, though this hint of advanced funding and logistics stages suggests word would arrive shortly. As for who agrees to star in it or what festival opts to premiere it––that should be...

Spring Breakers 2 Is Officially Happening 13 Years Later, but Big Fans Might Be Disappointed
Image
More than a decade after the original Spring Breakers was released in 2012, the cult classic thriller is getting a sequel. Written and directed by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers follows college students Candy, Faith, Brit, and Cotty, low on cash, who decide to rob a Florida diner so they can pay for their spring break trip. But they are soon arrested by the police. Luckily, a drug dealer/rap artist named Allen bails them out, and they opt for a life of crime.

Now, a new Spring Breakers, titled Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain, has been confirmed, per Variety. However, there's a catch that might be disappointing for big fans of the previous film. While the original Spring Breakers starred Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, James Franco, and Gucci Mane, that will not be the case with Salvation Mountain. The sequel will feature an entirely new cast - and a new director.

‘Spring Breakers 2’: Bella Thorne, Grace Van Dien & More Topline Road Trip Sequel From ‘Tiptoes’ Director
Image
While Harmony Korine‘s eyeball candy crime-spree thriller “Spring Breakers” helped boost the acting career of pop star Selena Gomez, we never imagined it would spawn a sequel, but here we are with news of “Spring Breakers 2.”

Sadly, in the report from Variety, the film titled “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain” won’t see the return of Korine in the director’s chair as they’ve instead tapped “Tiptoes” and “Freeway” director Matthew Bright for the pic.

Spring Breakers 2: Cast, Plot & Everything We Know So Far
Image
Harmony Korine's 2013 film "Spring Breakers" is a time capsule of the early 2010s -- a time when James Franco was still a big-name movie star and Skrillex's brostep bass wobbles soundtracked all of the cool parties in town. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, the film follows four college students who turn to a life of crime after meeting Alien (Franco), a drug dealer who convinces them to wear pink balaclavas, carry machine guns, and dance to Britney Spears power ballads.

Considering that Harmony Korine was banned from "The David Letterman Show" for causing mischief, it makes sense that he'd create a movie about renegades wreaking havoc. That said, "Spring Breakers" also taps into the universal feeling of being young, carefree, and wanting the party to last forever -- themes most of us can relate to, even if we didn't grow up listening to...

‘Spring Breakers’ Sequel Announced Sans Harmony Korine
Image
The iconic 2013 film “Spring Breakers” is getting a sequel.

Variety reported that the essence of Harmony Korine‘s classic feature will live on, sans its original stars and director, however. Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco, and more starred in the first film; now, its follow up will center on Gen Z actors for a new generation of mayhem.

“Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain” will have returning producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner from the original feature. Bella Thorne, Ariel Martin, Grace Van Dien, and True Whitaker will star, with Matthew Bright directing. Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Global and its joint venture with Signature Entertainment called Capture will be launching sales in Cannes.

The logline for the sequel reads: “When a trip explodes out of control, the girls are forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created.” Muse Production’s Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner will produce, with Capstone Studios serving as financiers.
