A new photograph from the Rome set of “Bunny-Man” reveals Oscar nominee Giancarlo Giannini cloaked in judicial robes as the corrupt Judge Gladwell, supplying the first official look at Italy’s latest high-profile genre project.

The thriller, produced and fronted by Andrea Iervolino, assembles Tatiana Luter, James Franco, Bella Thorne, Mike Tyson, Michele Morrone, Franco Nero and Ana Golja around Giannini.

According to production notes, the story follows a multimillionaire rap star who hides behind a rabbit mask to avenge the online-circulated assault that led his sister to take her own life, blending vigilante action with giallo-style psychology.

Cameras rolled in late July at Cinecittà before moving to Turin streets, with trade listings marking 28 February 2025 as the final day of principal photography. While press releases omit a director, festival databases point to Giorgio Bruno, and IMDbPro credits Daniel H. Friedman, Iervolino and Alessandra Starr Ward with the script.

Exclusive: A first look of Oscar-nominated Italian star Giancarlo Giannini and Tatiana Luter on the set of Italy-set thriller Bunny-Man has been unveiled as filming begins in Rome.

Giannini and Luter play Judge Gladwell and his wife who are integral to the plot of the thriller, also featuring James Franco, Bella Thorne, Mike Tyson, Debora Nascimento, Meredith Mickelson, and Lexi Coons in the cast.

The film is produced by Andrea Iervolino, who has yet to reveal the identity of the director.

Her sophomore effort, “Saint Clare,” takes a step in the right direction, with Guinevere Turner onboard as co-writer in adapting Don Roff’s 2021 novel “Clare at Sixteen.” That injects a greater degree of narrative spine to this vehicle for Bella Thorne as a young woman in a small town uniquely equipped to deal with a plague of possibly lethal disappearances — she is a sort of serial killer herself, albeit one who only preys upon predators.

Clare is a vegan, an animal lover, a good student and a devout Catholic. She’s also a sociopath, haunted by the first man she killed but always ready to kill again. Mitzi Peirone’s adaptation of Don Roff’s book, under the title Saint Clare, looks at what happens when this morally complex young woman - played by Bella Thorne - finds herself in a new neighbourhood where other young women are disappearing at an alarming rate. It’s an arresting piece of cinema, with some great action scenes and darkly comic sequences alongside gorgeous hagiographic imagery. The road to Saint Clare was paved with different intentions. Anyone who has followed the story knows that the adaptation of Don Roff’s Clare at 16 novel went through various stages before reaching its final form. At one point, Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch was attached to star, while Mark Pavia had been eyed to write and direct the film. Ultimately, Petsch and Pavia departed the project, as Bella Thorne jumped on board to play Clare Bleecker, and Mitzi Peirone signed on to direct and co-write the script with Guinevere Turner. They penned separate drafts, as Peirone searched for the story about who Clare Bleecker truly is and what shapes her into becoming a serial killer.

There is a particular kind of quiet that precedes violence. In Saint Clare, it is the quiet of a pious college student, Clare Beecker, whose devotion to Catholicism seems absolute. She lives in a small town, a place seemingly scrubbed of any real sin, and she moves through it with an unassuming grace. Yet, this placid surface conceals a brutal truth.

Clare is a vigilante, a self-appointed executioner of predators, channeling her sociopathy into what she perceives as a divine mission. She recites the words of Joan of Arc—“Everything I have said and done has been in the hands of God”—and she means it.

This equilibrium of faith and bloodshed is disrupted when Clare notices a pattern of missing young women, a local tragedy met with institutional indifference. The silence of the authorities becomes her call to action, pushing her from isolated acts of righteous slaughter into a systematic investigation.

Saint Clare isn’t what anyone expects. The film based on Don Roff’s novel Clare at Sixteen isn’t what many readers referred to as the teenage Dexter Morgan or Patrick Bateman. It’s funny. It’s tragic. It’s confusing. So, what is Saint Clare about? Good question. There’s a lot going on here. Teenager Clare Bleecker (Bella Thorne) attends Catholic school and lives with her grandmother, Gigi Newberry (Rebecca De Mornay), in a small town, but she’s also a serial killer, putting down people who do very bad things. Clare discovers a link between a group of missing girls and begins her own investigation after the authorities fail to act. The logline for Mitzi Peirone’s Saint Clare describes it as a story about a devoutly religious but also very murderous Catholic schoolgirl with dissociative identity disorder, and you could say that the film itself suffers from a similar malady. Namely, it seems unsure whether it wants to be a campy slice of macabre in the vein of Dexter and American Horror Story, where the religious imagery and bloodletting are played for both chills and thrills, or a genuine rumination on death, faith, and the morality of doing bad things to bad people.

Sure, July is bringing back the Fantastic Four (July 25), Superman (July 11), and Jurassic Park (July 2), but they aren’t the reboot that caught my eye. No, that distinction belongs to Rihanna is Smurfette (July 18).

Not only is it wild that this franchise still believes itself to be relevant, but the number of times it’s been resuscitated this century has me wondering if the world would somehow end the second Gargamel eradicated his tiny blue nemeses. Paramount might literally be keeping us alive. Or prisoner. I’m not certain which.

Because there’s obviously enough of a brand recognition problem to feel comfortable intentionally burying the actual title of Smurfs on the page (if it’s included at all) so Rihanna’s credit can earn our focus. She’s their main selling point, so you can’t blame them for leaning in.

Summer is (almost officially) here! That means the Fantasia International Film Festival is inching ever closer. This year, the festival, which was recently included on Dread Central’s best film festivals on earth, will celebrate its upcoming 29th edition from July 16 through August 3, 2025, and today, we’re excited to share the second wave of titles coming to this year’s festival, as well as the recipient of their Canadian Trailblazer Award.

First, the festival opens with Ari Aster’s latest feature film, Eddington, which our Managing Editor, Josh Korngut, gave five stars out of Cannes. The film begins in May of 2020 when a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.

Back in 2019, it was announced that Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch had signed on to star in a horror comedy called Clare at 16, which was going to be written and directed by Mark Pavia, the filmmaker behind the 1997 Stephen King adaptation The Night Flier, and based on a novel by Don Roff. That iteration of the project didn’t make it into production, and in 2022 Bella Thorne (Infamous) not only signed on to star in the title role of what was now being called Saint Clare, but she also brought Dying to Play (a.k.a. Braid) director Mitzi Peirone on board to write and direct the film. Now, Variety reports that Quiver Distribution has acquired the North American rights to the film and are planning to give Saint Clare a VOD and limited theatrical release on July 18th.

The 29th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival is set to run from from July 16th (one day earlier than previously announced) through August 3rd at the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas in Montreal, with additional screenings and events at Cinéma du Musée. The first wave of titles that will be shown at the festival this year were revealed four weeks ago, and now the second wave of titles has been unveiled! The Fantasia International Film Festival will be celebrating its 29th edition with another densely packed slate of events and programming running from July 17 through August 3, 2025, returning to the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas and presented by Mels, with additional screenings and events at Montreal’s Cinéma du Musée.

The festival’s full lineup will be announced in early July, but in the meantime, Fantasia 2025 has revealed its second wave of premiere titles. Highlights include Ari Aster’s Eddington as the opening film, a trio of new releases from prolific filmmaker Takashi Miike, festival favorites like upcoming body horror movie Together, and so much more. Bella Thorne (The Babysitter), Rebecca De Mornay (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction), and Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer) star.

Mitzi Peirone (Braid) directs from a script she co-wrote with Guinevere Turner (American Psycho), based on the 2021 novel Clare at Sixteen by Don Roff.

The film is set against a small town where a solitary woman (Thorne) is haunted by voices that lead her to assassinate ill-intended people and get away with it, until her last kill sucks her down a rabbit hole riddled with corruption, trafficking and visions from the beyond.

Bart Johnson (High School Musical), Joy Rovaris (“Beauty in Black”), Jan Luis Castellanos (“13 Reasons Why”), Dylan Flashner (The Card Counter), and Erica Dasher (“Jane by Design”) round out the cast.

Thorne’s credits include “The Trainer” and “The Duff.” De Mornay is best known for “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” and “Risky Business.” Whaley has appeared in “Pulp Fiction” and “Broken Arrow.” And Phillippe has starred in “Cruel Intentions” and “Crash.” Bart Johnson, Joel Michaely, Joy Rovaris, Jan Luis Castellanos, Dylan Flashner and Erica Dasher are also part of the ensemble.

More than a decade after the original Spring Breakers was released in 2012, the cult classic thriller is getting a sequel. Written and directed by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers follows college students Candy, Faith, Brit, and Cotty, low on cash, who decide to rob a Florida diner so they can pay for their spring break trip. But they are soon arrested by the police. Luckily, a drug dealer/rap artist named Allen bails them out, and they opt for a life of crime.

Now, a new Spring Breakers, titled Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain, has been confirmed, per Variety. However, there's a catch that might be disappointing for big fans of the previous film. While the original Spring Breakers starred Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, James Franco, and Gucci Mane, that will not be the case with Salvation Mountain. The sequel will feature an entirely new cast - and a new director.

While Harmony Korine‘s eyeball candy crime-spree thriller “Spring Breakers” helped boost the acting career of pop star Selena Gomez, we never imagined it would spawn a sequel, but here we are with news of “Spring Breakers 2.”

Sadly, in the report from Variety, the film titled “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain” won’t see the return of Korine in the director’s chair as they’ve instead tapped “Tiptoes” and “Freeway” director Matthew Bright for the pic.

Harmony Korine's 2013 film "Spring Breakers" is a time capsule of the early 2010s -- a time when James Franco was still a big-name movie star and Skrillex's brostep bass wobbles soundtracked all of the cool parties in town. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, the film follows four college students who turn to a life of crime after meeting Alien (Franco), a drug dealer who convinces them to wear pink balaclavas, carry machine guns, and dance to Britney Spears power ballads.

Considering that Harmony Korine was banned from "The David Letterman Show" for causing mischief, it makes sense that he'd create a movie about renegades wreaking havoc. That said, "Spring Breakers" also taps into the universal feeling of being young, carefree, and wanting the party to last forever -- themes most of us can relate to, even if we didn't grow up listening to...

The iconic 2013 film “Spring Breakers” is getting a sequel.

Variety reported that the essence of Harmony Korine‘s classic feature will live on, sans its original stars and director, however. Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco, and more starred in the first film; now, its follow up will center on Gen Z actors for a new generation of mayhem.

“Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain” will have returning producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner from the original feature. Bella Thorne, Ariel Martin, Grace Van Dien, and True Whitaker will star, with Matthew Bright directing. Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Global and its joint venture with Signature Entertainment called Capture will be launching sales in Cannes.

The logline for the sequel reads: “When a trip explodes out of control, the girls are forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created.” Muse Production’s Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner will produce, with Capstone Studios serving as financiers.
