'Nosferatu' Director Robert Eggers Set To Direct Werewolf Film 'Werwulf'
Image
Nosferatu has given Robert Eggers a lot to celebrate. The 2024 horror remake starring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Nicholas Hoult became the director's highest-grossing movie following its impressive Christmas week release and has since gone on to gross $90 million domestically and $156 million worldwide. With an incredible box office run and rave reviews, Nosferatu has certainly given Eggers a blank check, and he is cashing it in on another iconic monster archetype. He is moving from vampires to werewolves with his next feature film.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Eggers is following up Nosferatu with an original film, Werwulf, which he co-wrote with Sjón, his co-writer on The Northman. While plot details are being kept under wraps, sources close to THR say the story is set in 13th-century England and features dialogue that was true to the period and will have translations and annotations for those uninitiated to Old English. Nosferatu Box Office Surpasses Longlegs, Nabs Major Horror Movie Record
Image
Nosferatu has broken a major horror movie record by surpassing Longlegs at the box office. The latter movie, which was directed by Osgood Perkins, is a smash hit serial killer thriller starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage that grossed $127 million worldwide against a slim budget of less than $10 million after debuting on July 12, 2024. The Nosferatu release came much later, as the Robert Eggers remake of the iconic 1922 silent vampire film of the same name debuted on Christmas Day, becoming the highest-grossing new release over the holiday weekend.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Nosferatu is projected to close out its third weekend in theaters with a 3-day domestic gross of $6.8 million in North America and $13.7 million internationally. This will bring its cumulative global box office total to $135 million, surpassing Longlegs' worldwide gross by $8 million. This officially makes the Eggers movie the highest-grossing non-sequel, non-prequel horror movie of 2024, as it had...

Easter Eggs and References in Robert Eggers' 'Nosferatu'
Image
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024) is not merely a retelling of a classic—it’s a deeply layered homage to the legacy of Dracula and his many cinematic incarnations. By blending his signature atmospheric style with a reverence for horror history, Eggers breathes new life into the story of Count Orlok, making the old seem new while staying rooted in the mythos of Bram Stoker's original Dracula. At its core, Eggers’ film interrogates not just the myth of the vampire but the societal anxieties that have always driven its evolution as an allegory.

Before diving into the Easter eggs, it’s worth contextualizing Nosferatu’s journey from Stoker’s novel to screen. F.W. Murnau’s 1922 Nosferatu was an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula, with Count Dracula renamed Count Orlok and other details altered to sidestep copyright infringement. Yet, it captured the eerie spirit of Stoker’s story, transforming Dracula’s aristocratic menace into Orlok’s grotesque,...

Nicholas Hoult Reveals He Received Extremely Nsfw Gift From 'Nosferatu' Director Robert Eggers
Image
While moviegoers are mentally preparing themselves for one of the year's best horror movies withRobert Eggers' Nosferatu, a silly story so far out of left field has crawled out of the shadows in the press lead-up to the anticipated film. As a sort of inside joke between the two, director Eggers sent one of the film's stars, Nicholas Hoult, a somewhat Nsfw wrap gift at the conclusion of filming Nosferatu, a prosthetic penis. According to Hoult, Eggers sent the prop as a bit of a callback to a conversation the two had while on set.

In a new episode of Elle's Ask Me Anything series on YouTube, Hoult sat down with co-star Lily-Rose Depp to answer a series of questions, one of which was about "a prop or wardrobe piece [he's] taken from set." In immediate response to the question, Hoult shared that he has "Count Orlok's prosthetic penis framed at home.

'Nosferatu' Director Robert Eggers Gives SpongeBob the Credit He Deserves
Image
Bet you never thought one of the most acclaimed directors of our time would be giving props to a certain yellow sponge for making audiences connect with his latest film. That's exactly what happened at the Los Angeles premiere of horror director Robert Eggers' upcoming film Nosferatu. On the carpet, The Hollywood Reporter asked Eggers if he knew of SpongeBob SquarePants' references to Count Orlok that introduced the iconic vampire to many kids.

In one particularly hilarious episode of the famous Nickelodeon cartoon titled "Graveyard Shift," SpongeBob is spooked by a ghost story told by his coworker Squidward after their boss Mr. Krabs decides to keep the Krusty Krab open for 24 hours. By the end of the episode, SpongeBob realizes that every spooky detail of the story he thought was coming true had a practical explanation, except for the flickering lights.

The punchline of the episode is that they find Count Orlok,...

Nosferatu Review: Robert Eggers' Stunning Remake Puts The Terror Back Into Vampire Lore
Image
In 1922, German film director F. W. Murnau premiered his silent expressionist vampire film, Nosferatu, based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 gothic horror novel, Dracula. Since then, several iterations have come and gone with varying degrees of faithfulness to the source material. An announcement 93 years later would see Robert Eggers writing and directing another remake. Yet, with several scheduling conflicts and unforeseen challenges, the film would not begin production for another eight years. Be that as it may, Eggers’ long-awaited adaptation is here. Nosferatu is a stunning gothic horror remake that puts terror back into vampire lore.

The 10 Most Highly Anticipated Movie Reboots
Image
Nowadays, it is more common than ever for major Hollywood IPs and franchises to be rebooted. Audiences have loved seeing their favorite characters and stories be given a new life on the big screen once again. Of course, many of these reboots take their source material in an exciting new direction. After all, it would be rather boring to just see the same exact film over and over again, with hardly any changes from the original.

With that being said, however, not every reboot has wound up being a success. Some of these modern adaptations of older stories fail to reinvigorate their audiences, and wind up being rather disappointing, both critically and commercially. Some movies had such iconic performances that a reboot is out of the question. Nevertheless, there are plenty of reboots on the horizon that already have fans on the edge of their seats. Though it may be...
