House Republicans Vote to Rename Kennedy Center Opera House After Melania Trump

House Republicans have made passage of the fiscal 2026 Interior-Environment spending bill contingent, at least for now, on renaming the opera house at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after Melania Trump.

The procedural markup of the spending bill voted on by House appropriators on Tuesday contained a short amendment from Idaho Republican Rep. Mike Simpson: “Makes technical changes, designates the First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.”

The amendment was adopted by a vote of 33 to 25, though the proposed legislation with the renaming amendment has yet to receive a vote by the full Congress, nor is such polling assured.

Other sycophantic Republican lawmakers have similarly looked to honor (and flatter) Trump during his second term by, for example, Congressman Addison McDowell proposing legislation to redesignate Washington Dulles International Airport as Donald J. GOP Rep. Nancy Mace Introduces Bill To Defund ‘Lawless’ Sanctuary Cities In Response To L.A. Ice Protests

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) introduced a bill last week to defund “sanctuary cities.” She introduced the bill in response to the anti-immigration protests in Los Angeles.

Since June 6, riots, which started as anti-immigration enforcement protests, included many L.A. rioters who wore face masks, waved foreign flags, set cars on fire, threw bricks at police and federal officers, as well as confronted the authorities, defaced property, obstructed traffic and advocated civil unrest.

The protests were a response to federal raids against illegal migrants in L.A.

In response, Trump deployed 4,000 National Guard troops. He also sent over more than 700 United States Marines despite Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-California) objections.

According to a press release, Mace and Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) introduced the Lawless Cities Accountability Act, a bill designed to “pull every last federal dollar from cities who choose mob rule over law and order.”

Trump Dressed Down By Chief Justice After Potus Made Impeachment Threats Against Judge

The first serious rebuke of Donald Trump’s return to the White House has come from a close ally of the Maga Potus.

Keeping it short and sweet Tuesday, Chief Justice John Roberts told Trump and his minions to hold their horses when it comes to attacking judges and calling for impeachment over decisions they don’t like.

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” the Scotus boss said in a statement released today after Trump and other Republicans threatened U.S. District Judge James Boasberg over his order this weekend temporarily blocking deportations under the Alien Enemies Act.

“The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose,” Chief Justice Roberts added without ever naming Trump but leaving no one confused as to whom he was addressing.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has issued a rare statement rebuking President Donald Trump for calling for the impeachment of a federal judge.

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” Roberts, a conservative, wrote on Tuesday. “The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”

The statement comes hours after Trump attacked U.S. District Judge James Boasberg on Truth Social for trying to block the administration from deporting Venezuelan migrants to an El Salvadorian prison without due process.

There’s an abundance of treats offered by director Matthew Warchus’ staging of A Christmas Carol – like Andrea Martin dressed as a Victorian caroler mingling with the audience at Broadway Lyceum Theatre, handing out Clementines and cookies before curtain – but perhaps the best is the revelation that the Dickens chestnut can still inspire such a vibrant, compassionate and timely telling.

Adapted by playwright Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and starring Campbell Scott as Scrooge, Martin and Lachanze as the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present, respectively, this Carol (with different casts) has become something of a holiday tradition at London’s Old Vic. Andrea Martin and Lachanze will join the previously announced Campbell Scott in this holiday season’s Broadway production of A Christmas Carol, an adaptation of the Dickens classic by playwright Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and director Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical).

Martin will play the Ghost of Christmas Past, while Lachanze will portray the Ghost of Christmas Present (and pull double duty as Mrs. Fezziwig).

Complete casting for the production was announced today. A Christmas Carol begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 7, with opening night set for Wednesday, Nov. 20. The strictly limited engagement runs through Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020.

The holiday show will mark Martin’s first Broadway appearance since she was forced to pull out of Taylor Mac’s Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus this past march following a home accident that left her with four broken ribs.

In addition to Martin, Lachanze and Scott (who plays Scrooge), the production will feature Erica Dorfler as Mrs. Cratchit; Dashiell Eaves (A Behanding in Spokane) as Bob Cratchit; Hannah Elless as Jess; Brandon Gill (Holler if Ya Hear Me) as Fred; Evan Harrington as Fezziwig; Chris Hoch as Father/Marley; Sarah Hunt (The Last Ship) as Belle; Matthew Labanca as Nicholas; Alex Nee (Once) as Ferdy; Dan Piering, in his Broadway debut, as Young Ebenezer/George; and Rachel Prather (The Band’s Visit) as Little Fan. Sebastian Ortiz and Jai Ram Srinivasan will share the role of Tiny Tim.

‘Kpop’ Tops the 2018 Lucille Lortel Awards Nominations (Full List)
Off Broadway Korean-pop musical “Kpop” topped the nominations for the 2018 Lucille Lortel Awards, snagging nine nominations for the annual awards for Off Broadway fare.

“Kpop,” which Ars Nova (“Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812”) produced in association with Ma-Yi Theater Company and Woodshed Collective, led a list of musical nominees that also included “Bella: An American Tall Tale” (six nominations) and “The Lucky Ones” (five.) The top-nominated play was “Mary Jane” (six nominations), the Amy Herzog play that premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in a staging that starred Carrie Coon (who’s nominated for an acting award).

Special awards will be given to Eve Ensler, for the lifetime achievement award; Michael Friedman, the late composer who will be inducted into the Lortel’s Playwrights’ Sidewalk; and Wp Theater, for body of work.

Michael Imperioli has been cast as the lead in writer-director Richard Ledes' horror-thriller "Foreclosure."

The former "Sopranos" star joins Wendell Pierce, Bill Raymond, Jeff Burchfield, Meital Dohan, Brandon Gill, Spencer List, Tristan Laurence Perez, William Stone Mahoney and Roger Robinson in the creeper.

With a tagline of "ghosts don't move out," "Foreclosure" sets its action in a nearly empty, economically depressed neighborhood block, amid the real-life context of the mortgage crisis where so many homes are bank-owned.

Ged Dickersin ("City Island") is producing the project, which Ledes will begin shooting in Queens next week.

"Michael Imperioli is a great actor with a deep understanding of filmmaking," said Ledes. "Like a jazz ensemble, I can't imagine a better artist to join the two cats with whom I've had the privilege to work previously and who are back for 'Foreclosure': Wendell Pierce and Bill Raymond."
