The fourth season of The Witcher is supposed to arrive at some point this year, but as we inch past the half-way mark it's beginning to feel like that is becoming less and less of a possibility. Thus far, Netflix hasn't shared so much as a single teaser for the next season even though fans are eager to find out more, especially since it will see Liam Hemsworth stepping into Henry Cavill's shoes as the fabled monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
In the meantime, those of you craving a new dark fantasy show to fill the void will find that there are plenty out there, many of which are also available on Netflix. The following list highlights nine dark fantasy shows worth watching if you enjoy The Witcher.

Not all anime love interests are dramatic tsunderes or stoic knights in shining armor. Sometimes a male character's unique sense of humor sets him apart to his love interest and to the audience. These characters are creative individuals with eccentric ways of thinking and conducting themselves.
Sometimes, on paper, a character seems like a terrible love interest, but there's something about them and the way they're written that makes them special. Conventional beauty and charm can be nice in a well-written character, but the more eccentric and goofy characters are truly engaging. Quirky love interests go against the grain, they are flawed, and that's what makes them refreshing and endearing.

As Pokmon Horizons has continued to march onward, an interesting theme has emerged in the series, and it's one that never would've worked in Ash's era. That theme is one of family, a subject which never really received all that much attention in the previous series.
In the original anime starring Ash Ketchum, the subject of family almost never comes up; Ash's dad is still unknown even after 1200+ episodes, and his mother only rarely played a role in storylines, and even then was mostly there to cheer on Ash. Ash would place phone calls to Professor Oak far more often than to his own mother, and he had no other family to speak of. It's somewhat understandable, as the dream of endless adventure that the show represents doesn't mix too well with the concept of family.
However, Pokmon Horizons has found a way to incorporate family without sacrificing adventure.

Roy's devastating loss to Ryme prompts self-reflection for the young trainer. Roy must heed Ryme's criticism to evolve as a trainer, something Ash rarely had to do. Roy seeks advice to understand Fuecoco and improve as a trainer.
Pokmon Horizons finally saw Liko, Roy, and Dot arriving at Montenevera in order for Roy to take on his Terastal Implementation test. Dot had not only managed to pass hers, but the battle also saw her Quaxly evolve into Quaxwell, showing Dot's significant growth over the course of this training.
Roy went into his exam with Gym Leader Ryme hoping it would go much the same way, but his first Pokmon, Kilowattrel, went down rapidly. Fuecoco was able to hold his own against Ryme's Houndstone, but when she sent out a Toxtricity, Fuecoco found himself almost completely helpless, unable to land any attacks in the face of Toxtricity's booming sound.

When we think about popular animated series inspired by video games, there are plenty, but only a few do actual justice to the storyline. This can be said for the Castlevania franchise, the dark fantasy animated series that premiered in 2017 and turned out to be a massive hit.
Vlad Dracula Tepes in Castlevania| Credit: Powerhouse Animation Studios
The series, written and directed by Warren Ellis, highlighted Vlad Dracula Tepes’ quest for revenge after his wife was burned by the alleged rumors of being a ‘witch’. It also features Trevor Belmont as the vampire hunter who attempts to foil Dracula’s plans.
While the franchise’s first four seasons did amazingly well, its sequel garnered mixed reviews from fans. For some, it was a breath of fresh air, but for others, it was a literal pain in the neck.

Terapagos' past is now more intricate due to the Scarlet Book's connection. The show's version of events differs from the games, as Terapagos was not always in Area Zero. The book may unravel Terapagos' origins, hinting at a possible descent into Area Zero.
Pokmon Horizons has introduced a new wrinkle to the mysteries surrounding Terapagos with the inclusion of the Scarlet Book, a key item from Pokmon Scarlet that has a secret connection to the Pokmon. The only problem, however, is that Pokmon Horizons has already given Terapagos a radically different past than it had in the games, and this new information suggests that Terapagos' history is far more complex than it appeared.

A fictional vampire aims to destroy the world: for the Castlevania universe, that's a day ending in Y. The original Castlevania is a gem, one of the rare video game adaptations that beats the odds and offers a quality story on its own merit. Its emphasis on unrelentingly graphic horror and devastating pathos backed by nuanced scripting, exemplary characters, and astonishingly atmospheric animation from the underrated Powerhouse Animation Studios showcases the artistic heights of which the medium is capable. The unlikely friendship between co-protagonists Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Sypha Belnades (Alejandra Reynoso), and Adrian Tepes/Alucard (James Callis) won audiences over the most, a meeting of opposites who make each other stronger when united. The final season ended things as happily as possible for the trio, but nothing stays peaceful in Castlevania's grim world. Its spin-off sequel, Castlevania: Nocturne, features a new cast of characters and a different setting from its predecessor.

Warning: Major spoilers for the ending of Castlevania: Nocturne below!
Alucard returns in the finale of Castlevania: Nocturne to save the day, setting up big things for season 2. The events of the original Castlevania seem to have faded in the centuries between the two series, as characters like Annette haven't heard of Dracula or Alucard. Alucard's delayed entrance in Nocturne was intentional to allow viewers to invest in the new heroes and villains first, but his return will be crucial in helping undo Erzsebet Báthory's evil plans in season 2.
Alucard returned when all seemed lost in Castlevania: Nocturne, which means big things for season 2. Netflix's Castlevania was one of the first video game adaptations to receive a (mostly) positive critical reception. It managed to appeal to both fans of the games and newcomers, and after it came to an end after four seasons in 2021, a spinoff titled Nocturne was quickly announced.

Netflix finally dropped the official first look at Castlevania: Nocturne, the upcoming animated spinoff to the hit Castlevania series, which lasted for four seasons from 2017-2021.
Set to release on Sept. 28, 2023, the action-packed series chronicles the gory adventures of Maria Renard and Richter Belmont during the French Revolution. The latter is the descendant of monster hunter Trevor Belmont and magician Sypha Belnades, who were two of the main characters in the original dark fantasy series. Netflix has ordered a “Castlevania” spinoff series from the original show’s producers, the streaming service revealed Friday. The spinoff is focused on Maria Renard and Richter Belmont, the son of Sypha and Trevor, and set in 1792 France during the French Revolution.
The “Castlevania” franchise launched in the late 1980s as an action-adventure gothic horror video game series about vampire hunters. It was created and developed by Konami.
After many, many more installments, Netflix turned “Castlevania” into an anime series — the very first for the streaming service. The 10-episode fourth and final season premiered last month.
“Castlevania,” the series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, who’s trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself. Its voice cast included James Callis, Emily Swallow, Matt Frewer, Tony Amendola and Alejandra Reynoso.

For four seasons, Netflix’s Castlevania has delivered a diamond standard of American animation in this criminally underrated series. More than just a powerhouse of Western anime styling, Castlevania has devoted itself to bloody, brilliant horror and competently tackling a piece of beloved source material. The entire series has been one hell of a ride and Castlevania’s fourth season brings the story to a close on a perfect note.
Castlevania is the creation of Warren Ellis and based on the iconic Japanese video game series. The series is directed by Sam Deats, Adam Deats, and Spencer Wan, and brought to life by the hometown favorite of this critic, Powerhouse Animation Studios. This Castlevania review contains spoilers.
It may not seem like it during the first five plodding episodes of Castlevania season 4, but this is meant to be our last trip with Trevor, Sypha, Alucard, Saint Germain, Carmilla, Hector, and Isaac. After years of vampire wars and plots for world domination, the many sides fighting to decide the fate of the planet finally reach the endgame. Yes, the final season of the best video game adaptation ever made suffers from many of the same pacing issues as past seasons. Fortunately, the show sticks the landing overall.
Although there are some standout action sequences in the top half, as lovable duo Trevor (Richard Armitage) and Sypha (Alejandra Reynoso) get on with the monster hunting after stopping Dracula’s resurrection in Lindenfeld, season 4 really drags out of the gate, spending way too much time setting up its action-packed second half. Long, philosophical conversations that...

Exclusive: The upcoming 10-episode fourth season of Netflix’s anime series Castlevania will be its last, Deadline has learned. It will premiere May 13 (see key art below).

Netflix renewed Castlevania pretty swiftly following its season 3 debut, and now creator Warren Ellis has taken to his personal website to give us a peek behind the curtain at that decision-making process. Turns out, Castlevania didn’t just coast through an increasingly dog-eat-dog streaming landscape after season 3 landed on the service back in March – it absolutely smashed its doors in.
“So, we had our Netflix call about the 28-day data on Castlevania Season 3 last week,” Ellis wrote. “Because Netflix data is protected, I can’t actually tell you all the exact numbers. What I can say is that season 3’s popularity was an order of magnitude over that of season 2, and season 2 was popular enough to get us season 3. It turns out season 3 did, really, shockingly well. Shows tend to show a little attrition in the third season, and it was, quote, “unusual” to see the audience actually rise by a multiple factor.

Netflix’s Castlevania took a major gamble in its second season by killing off its main villain. But as the third season of the video game-based animated series proves, the death of Dracula is only the beginning of the vampire story expertly crafted by writer Warren Ellis, director Sam Deats, and showrunner Kevin Kolde. In fact, now unshackled from the Lord of Darkness and his monster-filled castle, Castlevania season 3 is able to explore quite a few new and interesting directions that flesh out this world like never before.
From the first episode, Castlevania season 3 feels like a completely new show, one less resembling the horror adventure of the first two seasons and more the political intrigue and war games of a prestige series like Game of Thrones. In essence, the fallen Dark Lord has left behind a power vacuum in Wallachia and the struggle that ensues takes up much of season 3’s 10-episode run.

Castlevania season 3 looks like the bloodiest season yet in the first trailer for the vampire-hunting series.
There was never any doubt that Castlevania would return for a third season on Netflix. After all, not only has it turned out to be a successful series for the streaming service but it's one of the best (if not The best) adaptations of a video game franchise to date. And, if the official trailer is any indication, Castlevania season 3 is set to be the best season of the show yet.
The third season picks up where season 2 left off. With Dracula defeated, his manipulative general Carmilla now controls the forces of evil and is free to continue the reign of terror in Wallachia. Carmilla has enslaved the powerful forge master Hector, forcing him to create more monstrosities for her army to do her bidding.

If a now-deleted tweet from Netflix Nordic is any indication, the third installment of Castlevania will be on our screens as soon as next week.
Earlier today, the online streaming giant released a graphic detailing all of the many TV shows and movies headed to Netflix over the next four weeks, one of which was Castlevania season 3. Its official air date? December 1st, 2019, though the Powers That Be quickly pulled said tweet, casting doubt over the show’s Eta. We will, of course, keep you right up-to-date as more information comes to light.
Now entering its third year on the streaming service, Castelvania rose from humble beginnings: a four-episode season in which viewers were introduced to a grief-stricken Dracula, hell-bent on vengeance following the murder of his wife. Hoping to drive a stake through his heart is disgraced monster hunter Trevor Belmont, who hails from a family of vampire killers.

Like a lone Belmont entering Dracula's castle armed with nothing but a whip, this team set out on a mission many thought would end in failure: to create a worthy video game adaptation that celebrated the source material while also taking it seriously. But when Castlevania season 1 dropped on Netflix last year, it defied the odds and became the first truly great video game adaptation.
With Castlevania season 2, the show continues its excellent adaptation of the classic platformer series, as Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Sypha Belnades (Alejandra Reynoso), and Alucard (James Callis) prepare to storm Dracula's castle while the Count (Graham McTavish) readies his forces to obliterate the world of man.

Castlevania is returning for a third season! Here's everything we know about season 3 thus far...
Netflix has officially renewed its Castlevania animated series for a third season. Season 3 will be the show's longest yet, with 10 episodes of vampire-killing action (and maybe a little more Emo Dracula).
Castlevania has turned out to be the shining light of video game adaptations. While the history of bad video game movies and TV shows is long and regrettable, Castlevania proved that it can be done. You can successfully (and faithfully) adapt a video game into another medium without sacrificing what made the story and the characters in the first place.
The streaming service didn't waste any time renewing the series for a second, 8-episode season, which dropped in Oct. 2018. While it hadn't been confirmed by Netflix, news that there would be a Castlevania season 3 was first revealed that June by Richard Armitage,...
