Thunderbirds is back, '60s style: Watch an incredible new trailer
It's 1965 all over again... with a brand-new episode of Thunderbirds coming soon.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Gerry Anderson's classic series, three new episodes have been produced, using the original's 'Supermarionation' techniques - and now we have a teaser for the first instalment, 'The Abominable Snowman'.

The new shows uses vocals recorded by the original Thunderbirds voice cast back in the '60s, for a series of audio productions.

Director Stephen La Rivière used Kickstarter to fund the new productions, which adds classic puppet visuals to the old recordings - and it looks pretty darn authentic to us.

3,378 backers have pledged £218,412 to help bring the project to life - and funding is the only way that fans will be able to watch the new episodes, receiving a DVD / Blu-ray of the finished product.

Jamie Anderson, son of Gerry Anderson, said: "Generations of kids and adults have...

Thunderbirds are go again - this time with puppets
Thunderbirds are go, again! The classic show is making another comeback - this time in puppet form.

Director Stephen La Rivière will adapt audio-only recordings from 1966, turning them into three new episodes made in the classic Thunderbirds style.

La Rivière will use the puppets and sets he faithfully recreated when making 2014 documentary Filmed in Supermarionation, which took a closer look at the production methods used in the original series.

Pre-production is underway after the Thunderbirds 1965 project launched a Kickstarter page earlier this month and passed its £75,000 target.

La Rivière said: "For Filmed in Supermarionation, we shot new sequences with the puppets using the old fashioned techniques.

"Whilst many of the methods used seem a little archaic and time-consuming by today's standards, we thought that it would be very special to do a one-off project bringing Thunderbirds back to life 1960s style."

He added: "Sadly, many of the original voice cast have passed away since 1965. However,...

Thunderbirds will make a comeback in puppet form on ITV
Thunderbirds are go, again! The classic show is making another comeback - this time in puppet form.

ITV recently revived the sci-fi series using CGI graphics for Thunderbirds Are Go, and now the channel is working on a new series called Thunderbirds 1965.

Film Review: 'Filmed in Supermarionation'
★★★☆☆'The Swinging Sixties. Great Britain. Slough'. Perhaps not the most enticing sequence of title cards, but one that gives a perfect indication of the dry humour and charm of this nostalgic and affectionate look at the team that brought us the likes of Captain Scarlet, Stingray and Thunderbirds. For director Stephen La Rivière, this is obviously a work of immense love as he adapts his book, Filmed in Supermarionation: A History of the Future (2014). The doc features extensive interviews with the late Gerry Anderson and all his major collaborators, including his wife and business partner Sylvia Anderson, who also voiced Lady Penelope - perhaps their most iconic creation ("Our Emma Peel", as one of the puppeteers calls her).

Letters: Gerry Anderson's movie legacy
Stephen La Rivière writes: When Gerry Anderson entered the world of TV puppetry in the late 1950s, Andy Pandy and Noddy dangled rigidly on thick strings in their two-dimensional worlds. Within a few years he and his team had dragged the discipline into foreshadowing the 21st century.

Anderson's embarrassment at working with puppets meant that his goal was to make the very best marionette masterpieces. That drove the primitive technology forward: puppets that could "speak", groundbreaking miniature effects and even the first video assist – a system that allowed the entire crew to see what the camera was shooting, not just the cameraman.

His editor's eye enabled him to make mini-feature films for television in an age when the competition was distinctly cheap-looking. His shows through the decades were training grounds for top special-effects technicians – remember their pioneering work the next time that you marvel at the miniatures in Alien, or even the latest Bond.
