Jurassic World Rebirth has instantly become a number one hit on VOD following its digital release. Hailing from director Gareth Edwards, the latest installment in the long-running Jurassic Park franchise stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of an expedition into dangerous territory to recover dinosaur DNA for a medical breakthrough.

In addition to Johansson, the Jurassic World Rebirth cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, among others. After hitting theaters in early July, the film launched on VOD on August 5.

Per iTopChart, Rebirth is currently the top rental choice on iTunes as of August 9. 28 Years Later (2025) occupies second place with Alien: Romulus (2024) coming in third. Rounding out the top five are Thunderbolts (2025) and Materialists (2025).

What This Means For Jurassic World Rebirth

Jurassic World Rebirth reviews have been mixed from critics, with some criticizing the movie for its over-familiarity and lack of risk-taking.

To celebrate the home video release of "Jurassic World Rebirth," Universal Home Entertainment invited /Film and a few other outlets to Thailand to see several of the locations where the film was shot, as well as interview director Gareth Edwards and some of the cast.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, was on hand to explain why Thailand is a great place for Hollywood productions to shoot, and she spoke about how part of the draw is the variety of landscapes that can be found here within a relatively short distance. As if to underline that point, we spent the next few days exploring three distinctly different environments seen in the movie. Here are the highlights of our "land, air, and sea" adventure.

Universal has a habit of shifting its theatrical windows depending on the title, sometimes moving films to PVOD quickly, as seen with The Fall Guy, while giving others, like Oppenheimer, a long run on the big screen.

The timing here probably suggests two things: the studio knows the film will not reach the $1 billion milestone, and it feels the current earnings are solid enough to make the early release worthwhile. The movie currently stands at a collection of $770 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

If you've seen "Jurassic World Rebirth," you know it goes a little heavier on Spielberg references than the previous installments (a surprise given that Spielberg is not a fan of repeating himself). The scene features the return of arguably the franchise's most popular dinosaur, the Velociraptor, as a group of the lethal reptiles approach the movie's protagonists. When Rupert Friend's villain raises his gun, the Raptors retreat ("you better run"), but they are actually fleeing from the approaching Distortus Rex.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the latest film in the Jurassic Park franchise stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of a team tasked with recovering valuable dinosaur DNA for a medical breakthrough.
