Blonsky made her acting debut starring alongside industry giants like Travolta, Queen Latifah, Christoper Walken, Allison Janey, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and James Marsden.

“Playing Tracy Turnblad was my first job in the entertainment business,” Blonsky told “Allison Interviews” host Allison Kugel. “Starring in ‘Hairspray’ was my first job outside of Cold Stone Creamery and babysitting.”

The long-term friendship she sparked with Travolta was an unexpected blessing.

"You are the only one stupid enough to show up..." Brutally honest line. A24 has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Last Movie Star, from writer/director Adam Rifkin. The film stars acting legend Burt Reynolds as acting legend Vic Edwards, an aging movie star who no longer has the same fame he once had. He's invited to a tiny, two-bit film festival in Nashville, and befriends his driver, who reminds him there's more to life than just being famous. The full cast includes Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, Ellar Coltrane, Nikki Blonsky, Kathleen Nolan, as well as Chevy Chase. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, but like most Tribeca films, we've never heard of it before now. I'd rather recommend watching The Hero with Sam Elliott instead, both pretty much have the same plot, though The Hero is actually quite good. Here's the first official...

The two stars play young performers drawn into P.T. Barnum’s world as he sets out to create the greatest circus ever made. Their characters, Philip Carlyle and Anne Wheeler, are also drawn to each other, but work commitments pose interference in their relationship.

When the actors were asked what it was like to lock lips on the film, Zendaya, 21, said every moment between the two characters was “incredibly special.”

Burt Reynolds made a rare public appearance on Saturday when he attended the premiere of his new film, Dog Years, at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

The 81-year-old actor struggled to walk when he worked the red carpet, at one point needing to be given a chair while being interviewed by a group of reporters and taking photos with the cast.

Reynolds was joined on the carpet by his Dog Years costar Chevy Chase, whose shirt was for some reason drenched in water, and Robert De Niro, who started the film festival.

With a week to go until NBC’s highly-anticipated Hairspray Live!, new details are emerging about the star-studded musical — including what roles Hairspray alums Ricki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur will have in the production.

Ricki Lake didn’t grow up thinking she would ever play an ingenue.

“I remember telling my mom I wanted to be in Annie, and she told me, ‘You’re not the starving orphan type,’ ” the actress says in the current issue of People.

But at 18 years old, Lake won the starring role of plus-size optimist Tracy Turnblad in John Waters’s 1988 hit film Hairspray.

The part made Lake, 48, a star, but she had no idea her Tracy would inspire the young Marissa Jaret Winokur, who would go on to win a Tony for playing the character in the 2002 Broadway musical based on the film.

Newcomer Maddie Baillio will soon be singing “Good Morning Baltimore.”

The Today show on Tuesday announced that the up-and-coming singer/actress has been cast as Tracy Turnblad in NBC’s Hairspray Live!, following an open casting call in April.

Baillio joins an all-star ensemble including Harvey Fierstein (reprising his Tony-winning role as Edna Turnblad), Jennifer Hudson (as Motormouth Maybelle), Martin Short (as Wilbur Turnblad) and Derek Hough (as Corny Collins). Grease: Live‘s Alex Rudzinski is set to direct, while Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (The Wiz Live!) are on board as executive producers.

Though Melissa McCarthy's star went supernova just five years ago in a role so popular that she won both an Oscar nomination and an Emmy statue (Bridesmaids... oh please, you know the Emmy wasn't actually for Mike and Molly!) she's wasted approximately zero days since in cementing her unlikely place as a box office titan with star vehicles emerging annually since. Right now that means her new capitalist diva comedy The Boss and if it isn't Spy (2015) or The Heat (2013) level funny (sorry... but few things are) it's not bad.
