This 16-Year-Old Thriller That Turned Liam Neeson Into an Action Icon Lands on Hulu Next Month
Image
The movie that turned Liam Neeson into an action icon is coming back to Hulu. Taken is set to return to the streaming service at the top of next month.

Beginning August 1, Taken will be available to stream on Hulu. The 2008 movie proved to be a major turning point in Neeson's career, transforming him, at least in the eyes of the public, from a dramatic actor to an action star. In Taken, Neeson plays Bryan Mills, a retired CIA operative who sets out to track down his teenage daughter Kim and her best friend Amanda after they are kidnapped by Albanian human traffickers while on vacation in France. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the action thriller was an unexpected hit with audiences, grossing over $225 million worldwide against a $25 million budget.

Taken was followed by two sequels, Taken 2 in 2012 and Taken 3 in 2014, as well as an NBC television series...

Early Buzz For the 'Naked Gun' Reboot Is Surprisingly Consistent
Image
The Akiva Schaffer-directed reboot of Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, has been shown off to the public for the first time, and the question is: did the film successfully put the laughter into manslaughter? The immediate reaction is that the film has hit the heights expected of the iconic comedy franchise. Initial responses from those who saw the film earlier this week heaped praise on Neeson's committed and dry performance, while the sheer ratio of jokes has been a huge success.

The cast also includes the likes of Cody Rhodes, Liza Kozhy, Cch Pounder, Busta Rhymes, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston. The Naked Gun is directed by Akiva Schaffer(Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping); he also co-wrote the script with Dan Gregor (Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers)and Doug Mand (How I Met Your Mother). It is produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins,...

Also seen on the beaver's log is the phrase "nice beaver," which fans will recognize as a memorable line spoken by Leslie Nielsen in the classic film. Check out the bucket below.

David Corenswet in Superman (2025)
The Naked Gun bares a brisk 85-minute runtime, carrying tradition of original trilogy
David Corenswet in Superman (2025)
Superman and The Fantastic Four have been guaranteed to be some of the most talked-about movies of the summer since they were announced, but one that has snuck its way into the conversation is next month’s The Naked Gun. The promos have been non-stop hilarious, and it looks like we can probably expect that through the movie’s runtime, which, according to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), is a swift 85 minutes, a perfect runtime for a movie like The Naked Gun.

Accounting for end credits, we’re really looking at 80 minutes. And knowing how the original Naked Gun trilogy used the opening credits for its own sequence of jokes, we have to count that as useful minutes towards comedy, provided this fourth installment keeps that tradition. So far, the style looks to do just that. In addition to that, the runtime is even in the exact neighborhood...

How The Naked Gun Reboot Director Convinced Seth MacFarlane The Spoof Would Work Again
Image
Filmmakers like Mel Brooks and the trio of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker (also known as Zaz) once made spoofs the cream of the comedy crop with hits like "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun." Sadly, the popularity of "Scary Movie," a truly great horror parody from 2000 that followed in similar footsteps and kicked off a franchise of its own, resulted in a swath of far worse copycats from two of the film's co-writers, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. "Date Movie," "Epic Movie," "Disaster Movie," "Vampires Suck," and more all tried to cash-in on spoofing popular blockbusters of the time, but the comedy left plenty to be desired, and the poor reception essentially killed the greatness and the appeal of spoof comedy — at least for a little while.

Thankfully, there have still been bright spots in the years since, such as the music biopic-skewering "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,...

Ahead of 'The Naked Gun,' Liam Neeson's 55% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Is a Streaming Hit After Failing at Box Office
Image
Liam Neeson is a one-of-a-kind action star who has amassed a fan following thanks to films like Taken, The A-Team, The Grey, and Wrath of the Titans. The 73-year-old actor is still going strong with an array of movies coming up next. However, one of his flops from last year has finally found success on streaming. Absolution, the action thriller directed by Hans Petter Moland, is currently topping Hulu charts.

Per FlixPatrol,Absolution is reigning at #3 on the charts after its debut on the Disney-owned streamer. It is only standing behind recent releases like F Marry Killand Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything. It seems fans are finding the movie as they binge Neeson’s work before his next release: The Naked Gun, the fourth film in the spoof franchise.

Liam Neeson's newest action movie is already a PVOD hit. Hitting digital on July 1 after a limited theatrical run, Ice Road: Vengeance is on its way to the top of the charts.

If Ice Road: Vengeance holds onto this momentum, there's a strong possibility that it will crack the Top 10 by next week. First announced in 2023 under its original title, The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, the long-awaited sequel brings back Jonathan Hensleigh as writer and director and Neeson as big rig driver Mike McCann, with the action shifting from Canada to Nepal.

ABC Pilot Buzz: ‘The Rookie’ Spinoff Heats Up, ‘Scrubs’ Reboot Inches Forward & More
Image
It’s pilot season at ABC. The broadcast network, which has been leaning into its “second cycle” strategy involving off-cycle pilot orders targeting midseason, picked up its first 2025 pilot, Rj Decker, in May, with Scott Speedman recently cast as the lead. It may soon be joined by another crime drama pilot led by a TV star in his 40s-50s, The Rookie North.

The spinoff, from The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley, has been gaining momentum for a pilot order, which would come once the lead is cast. A handful of known actors have already been approached for the role, I hear.

The Rookie North is one of several projects in serious pilot consideration at ABC, along with the long-gestating Scrubs reboot, and two family comedies, the Rachel Bloom starrer Do You Want Kids?, which features a couple with and without a baby, and Mittens, which revolves around a neighborhood cat.

Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr in the new The Naked Gun film – and the new trailer has landed.

When Liam Neeson first revealed that he was in line to head up a new take on The Naked Gun he seemed resigned to the fact that it could go badly, stating back in 2021 that “It’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know.”

Here in 2025, we’re not too far from finding out if that’s the case given that Neeson’s new spin on the beloved cop spoof series – made famous by the late Leslie Nielsen’s wonderful comic talents – is just a few months away.

2025’s The Naked Gun is headed to cinemas on 1st August, courtesy of Paramount.

Now we have a full trailer to enjoy ahead of the film’s release, following on from the well-received teaser that arrived back in April.

The Naked Gun Trailer's Stupidest Joke Proves The Comedy Reboot Is In Good Hands
Image
When news first broke that "The Naked Gun" was receiving a legacy sequel starring Liam Neeson, many of us shook our heads and criticized Hollywood for churning out yet another needless reboot. After all, the original movies are some of the best comedies of all time, and no one -- not even an actor of Neeson's quality -- could match the deadpan brilliance of Leslie Nielsen, right? However, those concerns were alleviated after the first "Naked Gun" reboot trailer threw shade at Oj Simpson, suggesting that director Akiva Schaffer and his co-writers Dan Gregor & Doug Mand have some clever zingers up their sleeves.

Well, now it's time for us naysayers to throw up our hands and admit we were wrong, as the latest trailer (see above) boasts a joke so gloriously silly that it wouldn't seem out of place coming from the mouth of Nielsen's clueless detective, Frank Drebin.

The Naked Gun Trailer: Justice Has a New Daddy (& His Name Is Liam Neeson)
Image
Paramount has released an official trailer for The Naked Gun. The movie serves as a reboot of the film trilogy and short-lived TV series that starred Leslie Nielsen.

Liam Neeson is the only man with the particular set of skills necessary to update Police Squad for the 21st century. After the Taken franchise cemented Neeson as one of this generation's leading action icons, the actor has starred in several successful movies for the genre, such as The Grey, Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Commuter, and Cold Pursuit. However, The Naked Gun is the first action movie to really make good use of Neeson's comedic skills, with the actor starring in the reboot as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Nielsen's character of the same name. While the official trailer features a lot of the same footage and jokes from the teaser trailer, there are still plenty of new laughs to go around.

‘The Naked Gun’ Trailer: Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson Join Forces in Crime Comedy Reboot
Image
Paramount Pictures has released the full trailer for its reboot of “The Naked Gun.”

The original 1988 film, “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!,” was based on the television comedy “Police Squad!,” which parodied police and crime shows. The movie, a box office hit, was followed by the sequels “The Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell of Fear” in 1991 and “Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult” in 1994.

Liam Neeson leads as Frank Drebin, the investigator first portrayed by Leslie Nielsen. Paul Walter Hauser plays Captain Ed, previously played by Alan North and George Kennedy in the show and film franchise, respectively. Pamela Anderson plays the love interest, taking over Priscilla Presley’s film role. The cast also includes Danny Huston, Kevin Durand and Liza Koshy.

“Liam is hysterical in it,” Anderson said at the Zurich Film Festival last October.

Neeson also gave kudos to his co-star: “With Pamela,...

‘The Naked Gun’ Trailer: Liam Neeson Takes on Leslie Nielsen’s Deadpan Legacy
Image
From the files of the Police Squad, “The Naked Gun” is back on August 1 in theaters everywhere — the rebooted Liam Neeson version that is. Paramount Pictures has released the theatrical trailer for the continuation of the series from which the similarly-named Leslie Nielsen mined box office gold.

In the new film, Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin, Jr., son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin character. Along for the sure-to-be-wacky ride are Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. Written by Dan Gregor, Doug Maud, and Akiva Schaffer, the movie was directed by Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins.

Neeson is not known for playing comedy — although Nielsen wasn’t either prior to his straight-faced “Don’t Call Me Shirley” turn in 1980’s “Airplane!” Neeson told ComingSoon.com last year that he needed to prove his comedic chops.

Fans of The Naked Gun are about to have a good year with the release of the full trailer for the new movie.

The new Naked Gun sees Neeson leading Police Squad in their latest effort to save the world. A previously released teaser trailer references Nordberg, the role played in the original movies by O.J. Simpson.

Image
Get ready to rock out with your Glock out. Liam Neeson's Frank Drebin Jr. is on the case in the first gag-filled trailer for The Naked Gun. The reboot of the slapstick comedy series will hit theaters on August 1, 2025. In the trailer, Drebin Jr. is the son of the franchise's original protagonist, Frank Drebin Sr., and he's just as violent, accident-prone, and generally ridiculous as his predecessor. Now, he's on the trail of a murderer, thanks to femme fatale Pamela Anderson, but that plot's just an excuse for a series of slapstick gags in the goofball spirit of the franchise.

As he crusades for justice, Drebin pokes fun at Neeson's tough-guy image, beating a man with his own severed arms, pulling his sidearm to get into a bathroom, and interrogating a suspect who did twenty years for "man's laughter." But his new case is no joke: if Drebin can't...

Liam Neeson’s 34% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Thriller Lands in Top 10 Days Before It Leaves Streaming
Image
It’s been a quiet year for Liam Neeson so far, but more than 10 years ago, he starred in an alien invasion film that’s climbing streaming charts. Neeson features alongside Alexander Skarsgård (Murderbot) and Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) in Battleship, the 2012 sci-fi thriller following a fleet of ships forced to battle an unknown enemy to stop them from destroying the planet. Battleship has been streaming on Prime Video for a while now, and although the film is due to exit the platform in 11 days, it has landed in the top 10, sitting at #6 at the time of writing. The film earned a “rotten” 35% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and the audience-driven Popcornmeter also landed a poor 54%. It grossed $303 million at the box office on a $209 million budget.

Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script for Battleship, and Peter Berg stepped behind the camera to direct the film. The Hoeber...

The Naked Gun | Liam Neeson stars, first trailer lands, international trailer’s different
Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr in the new The Naked Gun film – and the first teaser trailer has gone down well.

2025’s The Naked Gun is headed to cinemas on August 1st, courtesy of Paramount.

The studio’s marketing team have even got in on the fun sense of faux doomed resignation...

The Naked Gun Trailer: Liam Neeson Has A Very Particular Set Of Skills (And A Skirt) In Comedy Reboot
Image
Liam Neeson is an actor with a very particular set of skills. In the last decade and a half, that has primarily been looking gruff, talking smack, and kicking ass in a slew of geriaction films, from the Taken franchise to The Grey to The Commuter and, most recently, In The Land Of Saints And Sinners. But in The Lonely Island alum Akiva Schaffer's long-gestating, finally-nearly-here reboot of The Naked Gun, Neeson is set to show off a new skill only previously hinted at in guest spots on the likes of Life’s Too Short and Derry Girls — comedy. And if the first trailer for the movie is anything to go by, then the only thing Neeson's Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. is going to be killing here is us... because we might just die laughing. Check it out below;

Okay, hands up: who had 'Liam Neeson shivving baddies with...

The Naked Gun Official Trailer Is The Single Most Important Trailer Of The Year (And Maybe All-Time)
Image
To kickstart their very Mission: Impossible focused CinemaCon presentation, Paramount first debuted the official trailer for their upcoming action-comedy The Naked Gun, a movie they are cheekily describing as "The single most important Naked Gun movie since the other Naked Gun movies."

It's a short teaser, featuring leading man Liam Neeson, as he intervenes during a bank heist, but you're going to have to just watch it to believe it. We also learn that he's playing Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's Lt. Frank Drebin, who the film will honor and it seems like they'll do it in typical Naked Gun fashion.

The film will provide some much-needed humor to an action-packed summer, opening in the wake of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and opposite the animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 and the body horror film Together. It's likely Fantastic Four will repeat as the box office champ,...

The Naked Gun Reboot Trailer: Liam Neeson Is the 'New Version' of Frank Drebin
Image
Only one man has the particular set of skills to lead the new The Naked Gun movie. Liam Neeson succeeds Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin in the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated action comedy reboot.

The official teaser trailer for the new The Naked Gun begins with Drebin foiling a bank robbery after sneaking into the building disguised as a schoolgirl licking a lollypop. After taking care of the robbers, one of the hostages asks who he is, with Neeson's character responding, "Frank Drebin, Police Squad." He then breaks the fourth wall by looking directly at the camera and uttering, "The new version." The teaser then confirms that it will actually be a legacy sequel to the original film trilogy, with Neeson and Paul Walter Hauser playing the similarly named sons of Nielsen's Frank Drebin and George Kennedy's Captain Ed Hocken, respectively. The trailer even manages to...

Liam Neeson’s ‘Naked Gun’ Reboot Reveals First Trailer — With an O.J. Simpson Joke
Image
This is truly going to be a good year, as Paramount’s new Naked Gun movie debuted its first teaser trailer.

The studio shared the video online just before the start of its CinemaCon presentation Thursday, where extended footage was revealed to huge laughs and resounding applause. The comedy stars Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Police Squad legend Frank Drebin, initially played in the franchise by the late Leslie Nielsen.

Naked Gun’s footage teases a tone that should please fans of the original series, including a moment in which Neeson beats a man with his own dismembered arms. There are also scenes suggesting sexual activity between Neeson and Pamela Anderson’s character that are not quite what they seem. Another memorable moment references Nordberg, the role played in the original movies by O.J. Simpson.

In one scene, Neeson interrogates a character played by Busta Rhymes.

Paramount’s Merger With Skydance to Test DOJ’s Tolerance for Big Media Consolidation
Image
Dan Gregor, a writer and producer on Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers and How I Met Your Mother, started his career roughly 20 years ago, during an era when Hollywood looked vastly different.

Back then, it was normal for him to develop a pitch for a TV show and take it to multiple networks. With a handful of offers on the table, he says he was able to negotiate the best deal possible. Two decades and several roll-ups later, that’s no longer the case.

“You used to have a marketplace to sell your concept to,” Gregor explains. “You’d often get multiple offers, and you’d have a bidding war. You could actually negotiate up all of your rates, salaries and others rights based on competition between the studios and buyers. Now that the studios and networks are functionally the same, it’s almost always a take it or leave it offer.
