Welcome to the latest installment in our regular Movies You May Have Missed series here on Nerdly, in which I highlight some of, what I think, are the best movies that have flown under the radar of many or have been “forgotten” in the intervening years since its release. One Fc

One Fc is now the most dominant Mma promotion in Asia, and has begun importing a number of western stars into its ranks, a move that puts pressure on the Ufc and its plan to move into Asian markets like China, Japan, and Singapore.

James McSweeny, Roger Huerta, and former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren now call the promotion home, and with Rich Franklin taking a job as One Fc’s Vice President, you can expect them to have additional sway with western fighters, as well as considerable influence on local talents in the region.

One Fc 19 was a big show for promotion, maybe its biggest to date. Airing on the Fight Network and other cable providers as well as online, the event, entitled “Reign of Champions,” saw three title bouts in addition to appearances by McSweeny and Huerta (who once graced the cover of Sports Illustrated). Once in a blue moon a fighter arises from nowhere who really catches the eye of the Mma community. The cliché of the hype train is a term that best describes this. On occasion, they are very accurate and warranted – see Jon Jones, Lyoto Machida etc.

Sometimes fans like to claim that they saw fighters rise from obscurity to stardom, and the gargantuan rise of the aforementioned Jon Jones is hard to put into words; from a middle of the card scrap to short notice title fight in little over a month. Jones won the light heavyweight belt with an impressive victory against Shogun Rua, going on to defend his belt 5 times and clinching a Nike sponsorship deal in the process. Hype well and truly granted.

However, this article will look at those occasions when a fighter has a heap of potential and hype but has not been able to deliver.

Four losses. Four damned losses.

The thought was unbearable, the situation untenable. The hand of the lesser fighter was raised and, perhaps for the first time, it wasn’t Leonard Garcia, the king of Split Decisions. There’s an assumption on behalf of the fans that athletes live in some type of ego-powered capsule from the real world. An assumption that even as Leonard Garcia was showered with boos in the octagon in the past that he still fervently believed he won against the Korean Zombie. Or against Nam Phan. He knew otherwise.

Garcia felt it in his gut, the nasty sour feeling of a loss, of coming up short … even as his hand was raised. That’s why he immediately granted rematches to both of them. Tekken was an instant success when it was first released as a video game back in 1994, which has spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs and rip-offs since then. It was only natural that Tekken was eventually translated to the movie world, although it unfortunately never received a theatrical release in the United States. However, fans can pick up Tekken on Blu-ray and DVD starting today, July 19, and I recently had the chance to speak with one of the men responsible for bringing this video game to life, director Dwight H. Little. Take a look at what he had to say about the video game adaptation, shooting in Louisiana, the tricky nature of assembling this cast, and much more in the interview below.

You can count on one hand the number of videogame-to-movie adaptations that haven’t been total disappointments, and I count Dwight Little’s “Tekken” as one of the more successful ones. Anchor Bay Entertainment is set to bring cage fights to martial arts fans, with the film Tekken. Now, an official trailer is available, which shows fighters of the future portrayed by mixed martial artists of today. Fighters Cung Le and Roger Huerta will star, along with well known actors Luke Goss (Death Race 2) and John Foo (Universal Soldier: Regeneration). Check out the tension of the future; in which, world wars have decimated the planet and survivors must fight in "deadly combat tournaments!" (Anchor).

Film distributors Anchor Bay Entertainment are moving ahead with the release of their video game adaptation, Tekken. Let the fists fly in this first graphic for the feature, with Tekken directed by Dwight H. Little (Halloween 4). Set in an apocalyptic future, Tekken hosts an assortment of stars including: Jon Foo, Kelly Overton (The Ring Two), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Planet of the Apes) and Ian Anthony Dale (The Hangover). The film will also show off the mixed martial arts skills of Cung Le and Roger Huerta. Yes, Circle Of Pain is the latest DVD martial arts movie to cross my path, and this one’s a doozy!

Essentially a mix of Kickboxer and Rocky, Circle Of Pain is an epic mixed martial arts extravagnza that sees retired Mma champion Dalton Hunt (Schiena) forced back into the steel cage by ruthless fight promoter Victoria Rualan (Ling) to battle the current undefeated champ Colin Wahle (Herring) in what she sees as a dream bout – one that will bring in big money for her. Unable to break his contract, which guarantees one more fight, Hunt – with the help of ageing semi-retired trainer Willy – must overcome both being out of shape,...

The "Tekken" games have been coming out for more than 15 years, and the series stands as one of the most popular fighting game franchises ever. They're full of the kind of quintessentially Japanese quirks and cultural references that people think about when they imagine that country's pop culture: Pandas that do kung-fu with glow bracelets on, cyborg ninjas who do a hara-kiri move to stab themselves and the enemies behind them, a brooding young heir to a powerful corporation who also can turn into a demon. That kind of stuff.

There've been animated versions of the "Tekken" saga made in Japan and a Western live-action version has been in the works for nearly a decade. After lots of personnel changes, production wrapped more than a year ago but the film was still angling for a distributor. Anchor Bay--who released last years' "The Slammin' Salmon"--recently announced that they'd picked up the Us distro rights.

For some reason Anchor Bay Films acquired the the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand distribution rights to the awful looking new video game based film Tekkan. 

Tekken was written by Alan McElroy and directed by Dwight Little. Anchor Bay plans on giving this film a wide release in the United States in 2011.

I'm shocked this movie got picked up! I know it's based on a popular video game, but the film looks so bad. When I see a movie like this get picked up, it just proves anything can get a distribution deal.

The film is set in a world run by all-powerful corporations, of which the mightiest is the Tekken Corporation, headed by Heiachi Mishima. These corporations regularly send their best fighters to challenge each other in the ring. Tekken will be distributed by Anchor Bay Films in 2011 Anchor Bay Films announced today it had acquired U.S. and Australia/New Zealand distribution rights to Tekken from Steven Paul's Crystal Sky Pictures. Based on the bestselling videogame franchise from Namco, Tekken was written by Alan B. McElroy and directed by Dwight H. Little. Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President Worldwide Acquisitions and Co-productions at Anchor Bay Films, made today's announcement.

Tekken will be released widely in the United States in 2011.

"The Tekken video game franchise has sold millions of copies over the past decade," commented Bill Clark, President of Anchor Bay Entertainment. "Crystal Sky has invested millions in the production, making sure they were able to convey not only the incredible fight scenes, but also the emotional journey of the main character, Jin."

Ex-ufc Star in Bloody Street Fight -- Caught on Tape

TMZ has obtained footage of former Ufc superstar Roger Huerta engaging in a bloody street fight in Austin, Texas this weekend -- against a man who appears to have socked a woman in the head.

27-year-old Huerta -- who was once featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated -- was in front of a bar in Austin around 2 Am on Saturday morning ... when some other people began fighting.  Roger was near the scuffle ... when he saw one of the men involved punch a female who was standing near the ruckus.

Once Huerta sees the woman collapse to the ground -- he instantly tries to confront the attacker saying, "You just punched a f**kin' girl."

Moments later, Huerta takes off his shirt ... slams his hat to the ground ... and rushes after the man.
