Italian indie thriller “The Contract,” starring Kevin Spacey as a character named “The Devil,” is set to world premiere at the Cairo Film Festival this week, without Spacey on the red carpet in the Egyptian capital’s Opera House.
In the film, Spacey plays a role that has been described in promotional materials as somewhat akin to Al Pacino’s role in “Devil’s Advocate”– or as Satan who takes the guise of a human lawyer. The tagline of the rather rudimentary poster for “The Contract” is “When Hell Surrounds You The Devil Is Your Last Hope.”
In the trailer, for what looks like a low-budget TV movie, Spacey’s character, is seen screaming lines such as: “I can feel it when they lie to me on purpose, and I go crazy!” and “I don’t care about the past, it’s all long gone!”

It’s nearly been a year since Kevin Spacey was acquitted of all nine sexual offense charges in a U.K. criminal trial, and the two-time Oscar winner has publicly admitted that his career is still in the doldrums.
The two solitary projects of his that have released in the last 12 months — “Control” and “Peter Five Eight,” both low-budget indie features and far removed from the starry features he was leading before his glittering four-decade career imploded when allegations first emerged in 2017 — landed without much noise. In a tearful interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” in June, he claimed that he owed so “many millions” of dollars in legal fees that his house in the U.S had been foreclosed and he’d almost had to file for bankruptcy several times.
But while he may still be the highest profile actor effectively “canceled” by mainstream Hollywood in the wake of the #MeToo movement,...

Kevin Spacey is set to be honored with a trophy for a voice role in the 2023 U.K. action thriller Control by the Folkestone Independent Film Awards on July 20.
On Monday, organizers of the British indie film awards confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the House of Cards star is set to win a best performance trophy for his role in Control. The British action thriller, written and directed by Gene Fallaize, did not have Spacey on screen, but rather the two-time Oscar winner instead had a voice role with a menacing presence in the film.
The British indie film awards event also touted Spacey’s performance and award on its Instagram and Facebook pages. The producers of Control cast Spacey in late 2022 as he awaited his London criminal trial over multiple counts of sexual assault. The British legal proceeding ended with the embattled Hollywood actor cleared of all charges.

Control is a movie on Amazon Prime about a secret affair between the British Prime Minister, David Adams (played by Mark Hampton), and the Home Secretary, Stella Simmons (played by Lauren Metcalfe). Their hidden relationship leads to some serious consequences. You know how powerful people often think they can do whatever they want and get away with it, right? This is exactly what happens in Control. The Prime Minister and the Home Secretary use their positions to get what they want without worrying about anyone else. But actions like these always have consequences. Their deeds don’t go unnoticed. Now, someone wants revenge. This person plans to make them pay for what they’ve done. 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of writer/director Wes Craven’s classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (watch it Here), but there doesn’t appear to be any news about a revival of that franchise anywhere on the horizon. Meanwhile, Variety reports that writer/director Gene Fallaize is preparing to head into production on a new thriller called Nightmares – which sounds like it’s digging into the true story that inspired Craven to write the original Nightmare in the first place.
A Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t directly referenced anywhere in the Variety article, but when you take the title Nightmares and combine it with the synopsis, their report does seem to point in the direction of Elm Street. The synopsis says Fallaize’s script is based on the true story that became the basis one of the greatest horror movies of all time, following a journalist...

Kevin Spacey will appear as a character named “The Devil” in Italian director Massimo Paolucci’s psychological thriller “The Contract,” which just wrapped principal photography in Rome.
The English-language film, described in a statement as having a similar storyline as Alan Parker’s “Angel Heart” and Taylor Hackford’s “The Devil’s Advocate,” also stars Eric Roberts and Vincent Spano, Italian production company Tm Entertainment said.

The world premiere of “Control,” Kevin Spacey’s first film since he was acquitted of sexual assault, has dealt with a few setbacks after a London cinema dropped its offer to host due to the actor’s involvement in the micro-budget Welsh thriller.

Kevin Spacey’s attempted career comeback has suffered a blow, with a London cinema dropping its offer to host the premiere of his new film.
The Daily Mail newspaper reports that the Prince Charles Cinema, a big supporter of independent film from its location just off Leicester Square in the centre of London’s film district, withdrew its offer to host Welsh thriller Control, once it was made aware of Spacey’s involvement.
The double Oscar winner, who was acquitted of sexual assault charges at a London trial earlier this summer, is an unseen character in the film, with his voice heard in phone calls with the main character, played by Welsh actress Lauren Metcalfe.
The Daily Mail quotes an email from the cinema boss Greg Lynn, in which he wrote:
“We have an issue. It is with my apologies that I have to inform you that we have cancelled your hire with us.

Making the decision to hire Kevin Spacey for an upcoming film before his acquittal of sexual assault was worth the risk, according to his co-star and producer.
Lauren Metcalfe, who worked with the Oscar winner on the film Control – due for release in December – told the BBC that collaborating with Spacey was “an incredible experience.”
She said:
“He was cleared [in the US] at the time and we wanted to base it [the decision to hire him] on facts rather than to enter into cancel culture.
“We were really privileged that he signed on for the role and then working with him has been one of the highlights of my career.
“As a producer, on that side of things, we all discussed it all together at length, you know, pros and cons.
“I feel that everyone I met had their own opinion on what was happening and so it was a really tricky time to navigate through so much noise.

Days after a London jury acquitted him of sexual assault, Kevin Spacey is back in the public eye — or at least the public ear — in the trailer for a new movie, Control. He portrays “The Voice” in the clip, speaking to Great Britain’s home secretary (Bridgerton’s Lauren Metcalfe) as he remotely takes control of her car and terrorizes her for some supposed misdeeds she’s committed politically. The car, which also contains the prime minister’s daughter, hits a pedestrian and hurdles toward oncoming traffic.

Filmmaker Gene Fallaize, who directed Kevin Spacey's most recent project Control, continues to stand by his controversial casting decision.
As reported by Variety, Fallaize doesn't "regret casting Kevin" and "would do it all over again." Fallaize cast Spacey in his micro-budget thriller Control while the actor was still awaiting trial on several sexual assault charges. The former House of Cards star has just been found "not guilty" on all accounts, which means that Fallaize might manage to avoid any further controversy upon the movie's release.

Multiple industry professionals reportedly warned the filmmaker about the financial and reputational dangers of casting Spacey in Control, but he ultimately decided to move forward with the actor on board. However, Fallaize did everything in his power to "minimize any potential risk," including keeping the film as low-budget as possible in case the verdict went the other way.

Gene Fallaize, the director behind Kevin Spacey's latest film, Control, says casting the actor while he was awaiting trial for sexual abuse a "risk worth taking." On Wednesday, Spacey was acquitted of sexual assault charges in a London court after a four-week trial. Last October, Spacey faced a Manhattan court for sexual battery charges stemming from a 1986 incident; he was found not liable. As allegations against Spacey, which date back to 2017, began to trickle in, the Academy Award winner's career began to suffer. Most notably, the actor was fired from House of Cards after reports alleging inappropriate behavior towards several young men on set.
Spacey now has a couple of projects in the works, including Fallaize's Control, an indie thriller also starring Lauren Metcalfe and Mark Hampton. Control follows British Home Secretary Stella Simmons as she drives home one night while engaging in an affair with the Prime Minister.

Gene Fallaize, the director of Kevin Spacey’s most recent film, has said he stands by his decision to cast the actor while he was awaiting trial for sexual assault.
Spacey was cleared on all counts on Thursday following a four-week trial in London’s Southwark Crown Court.
“I don’t regret casting Kevin and I would do it all over again,” Fallaize, who directed Spacey in micro-budget thriller “Control,” told Variety.
Sold by Los Angeles-based TriCoast Worldwide, the film stars Spacey — who does not appear visually in the movie — as a man hellbent on revenge who hijacks the car of a high-ranking government official. His part, which is entirely vocal, was recorded in London last December just weeks after he was charged with seven of the 12 sexual offenses for which he was tried this month.

The director of a low-budget British indie that sparked controversy last year by casting Kevin Spacey months before his his sexual assault trial in the U.K. is saying his decision has now been proven right.
Control — which was announced in November, just two weeks after London’s Crown Prosecution Service brought the number of sexual offense charges Spacey would be facing up to 12 — is a thriller in which a British politician sees her self-driving car hijacked by a man seeking revenge. Spacey was cast in a voice-only role as the main antagonist.
Speaking to the U.K.’s Sky News shortly after Spacey was cleared of all charges on Wednesday, writer-director Gene Fallaize said that he “absolutely knew” that casting the two-time Oscar winner was “going to be a risky move.”
Fallaize said: “I discussed it at length with my producers about the pros and cons, we really weighed it out.

Kevin Spacey alleged in a new interview with ZEITmagazin that people will start hiring him for more acting projects if he is cleared of sexual assault charges in London following an upcoming trial that is set to begin on June 28. The Oscar winner was charged one year ago in London with four counts of sexual assault, relating to alleged incidents that took place between 2005 and 2013.
“It’s a time in which a lot of people are very afraid that if they support me, they will be canceled,” Spacey said about his career. “But I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward.”

Here's a fan-made Superman film called Superman: Requiem. The 22-minute short was directed by Gene Fallaize, and is being billed as the "ultimate fan-film." I'll let you be the judge of that.
