IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
Valerie Alexander writes dark political comedy/thrillers with complex female leads that aren't likeable. What she gets paid to write is Hallmark Christmas movies.

Her projects have included the adaptation of the novel "Social Crimes" for Phoenix Pictures, with Joel Schumacher attached to direct, the adaptation of Michael Chepiga's stage play "Getting & Spending," to star Catherine Zeta Jones, the development of the television series "Gangster, Inc." for CubeVision, and the original screenplay that launched her career, "PR." None of these have ever made it to the screen. Such is the life of a working screenwriter.

Valerie directed the award-winning short films "Making the Cut" and "Ballpark Bullies," and is the creator, producer and director of "The Wedding Matters," "Say I Do," and "Life Support," three successful Documentary and PSA/Commercial campaigns in support of everyone's freedom to marry.

In addition to scripted, Valerie has worked on a variety of game shows, both broadcast and online, including Chain Reaction, The Rich List, Trivial Pursuit: America Plays, American Know it All and Perfect 10.

In addition to all the writing and directing, Valerie is a globally-recognized keynote speaker and the CEO of Speak Happiness, a company whose mission is to amplify workplace happiness and inclusion in all spaces. Valerie's TED Talk, "How to Outsmart Your Own Unconscious Bias" has been viewed over a million times and is used as a teaching tool in classrooms and boardrooms around the world.

Prior to becoming a screenwriter, Valerie was a corporate securities lawyer, an investment banker, the Vice President of Business Development for two Internet start-ups, and the founder and CEO of Goalkeeper, a tech company that built communication tools to help you make the people you love happy.

Aside from her professional experience, Valerie has worked as: a horse wrangler; an algebra teacher; a pizza delivery driver, an acquisitions fund broker; a semi-professional soccer player; a runway model; a tutor for the developmentally disabled; an amusement park supervisor; an SAT, GRE, LSAT and GMAT prep teacher; and the world's most under-appreciated waitress.

Valerie has been married to writer/producer Rick Alexander since 2006. They live outside Atlanta with their ill-mannered German Shepherd, Vegas, Baby!
