Final Destination Star Devon Sawa Teases a Little Giants Reunion
Image
Devon Sawa, the teenage heartthrob known for his roles in '90s horror gems like Idle Hands and Final Destination, has shared that most of his co-stars in the family sports comedy Little Giants want a reunion. Considering the film depicted a whole football team, it's not a small group to bring together again after all these years, but it looks like Sawa is working hard to make it happen.

Sawa took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to start a campaign to gather the stars of the 1994 film in one room and rekindle the magic of the beloved family comedy. His post teases the fact that he's been talking with his co-stars from the movie, and he even mentions the American Cinematheque account in order to get a Q&a going. He also mentions a Little Giants Easter Egg that maybe some will recognize:

"I've 80% of the cast of...

The Retirement Plan director Tim Brown has been inspired by John Wick
'The Retirement Plan' director Tim Brown took inspiration from the 'John Wick' franchise. The new movie stars Nicolas Cage as a retired grandfather who longer spends his time killing people for money and Brown says that some of the movie's concepts were inspired by the Keanu Reeves-led series.Speaking to Collider, Tim said: "The only thing I knew at the beginning was, what if John Wick became a beach bum and an alcoholic, and just did nothing for 40 years? When he's 70, could he have any ability at all? What would that ability be? That was the premise that I started with, and then it evolved."So, halfway through the movie, I could not have told you how it was gonna end, remotely. A lot of the people that I've been talking to say the film's unpredictable because I'm not following that classic action genre beat sheet.

The Retirement Plan Review: Cage’s Rambo Feels Run Down
Image
In the past, director Tim Brown made it his prerogative to dive right into the deep end of various genres. Take his 2017 creature feature horror film, Devil in the Dark, compared to his 2021 family movie, Buckley’s Chance, which followed a boy and his dog in the Australian outback. Almost as if trying to find a comfortable sweet spot between the two, Brown has now landed in the cinematic space of a violent yet fuzzy action-comedy production that centers around criminal organizations and grandfathers with secret pasts.

Filmed prominently in the Cayman Islands, The Retirement Plan hosts a surprisingly notable entourage of names like Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Ernie Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Lynn Whitfield, Ashley Greene, Joel David Moore, and the debuting Thalia Campbell. In between the overly cooked, self-aware script and some scenes that just don’t deliver the intensity when it would be the most palpable for the audience,...

‘The Retirement Plan’ Director Tim Brown on Turning Nicolas Cage Into a Beach Bum Assassin and Grandfather
Image
The Retirement Plan filmmaker Tim Brown makes his own luck.

Instead of waiting for the phone to ring, the Canadian writer-director has created his own opportunities to helm his written material, and The Retirement Plan, Brown’s new action-comedy starring Nicolas Cage, is the fifth time he’s done just that. Brown already had an usual path to the director’s chair, as he started out on the distribution side of the industry.

The Retirement Plan, which is now playing in theaters, began with Brown imagining John Wick as a 70-year-old former assassin who now passes his time as an island-based beach bum. He eventually sent a script to Cage, and the veteran actor was intrigued by the idea of being aged up by a decade in order to portray the added dimension of an estranged grandfather.

“He loved the idea of playing a grandfather and playing a bit older than his own age,...

The Retirement Plan Director on Nicolas Cage & Finding Unlikely Comedy
Image
The Retirement Plan focuses on Matt (Nicolas Cage), a self-styled beach bum living in the Cayman Islands. Estranged from his daughter Ashley (Ashley Greene), he's more surprised than anyone when his granddaughter Sarah (Thalia Campbell) comes seeking help. On the run from the dangerous gang leader Donnie (Jackie Earle Haley) and his enforcer Bobo (Ron Perlman), Sarah and Ashley need his help, and Matt is forced to pull out some of his old tricks to protect them.

On paper, the film could have been a tense thriller -- and it does feature some fun action sequences. But an important element of the movie is the way it balances comedy with all the intensity, fleshing out the characters and world in unexpected ways. In an interview with Cbr, Retirement Plan Director/Writer Tim Brown broke down the film's tonal balance, playing with the conventions of the action genre, and what separates stars like Nicolas Cage,...

Nicolas Cage continues to straddle the line between genius and madness as he now plays a surly grandfather who has acquired a special set of skills in his past career. The infamously eccentric actor has the rare distinction of being self-aware of his online reputation while continually feeding the unintentional comedy with his own personal truth. In an age where Cage can make a movie like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which parodies himself, as well as give an acclaimed, understated performance in a film like Pig, there is certainly no predictable trajectory of his already varied career.

Enter The Retirement Plan, which has just released a trailer from Falling Forward and Productivity Media. The film stars Cage as well as Ashley Greene, Ron Perlman, Jackie Earle Haley, Joel David Moore, Grace Byers, and Ernie Hudson.

The synopsis, per Deadline, reads,

In The Retirement Plan, when Ashley (Ashley Greene...

Lord of War sequel finds Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård locked and loaded for lead roles
Image
Strap on a bulletproof vest and prepare to make a shady deal or two because a Lord of War sequel is on the way. Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård are teaming up for Lords of War, with Vendome Pictures producing. Andrew Niccol directs from a script he wrote, with Cage reprising his role from the 2005 original, arms dealer Yuri Orlov. The plot includes a father-son twist, with Skarsgård playing Orlov’s son, Anton. In the Lord of War sequel, Anton “tries to top his father’s wrongs instead of stopping them as he launches a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts.”

“There is so much more to explore with these characters. Plato said it best — ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate...

‘Devil In The Dark’ Review
Sibling rivalry is something I know very little about. See, I’m an only child, and so my exposure to this has been vicariously through others and by what film an TV has provided me with. I “get it,” but I don’t get it, y’know? It’s not Lost on me, it’s just not natural. Devil in the Dark is all about brotherhood and that rivalry, childhood trauma, daddy issues, and dear hunting. And an albino monster, that too.

Adam (Robin Dunne) is returning to his hometown after a long absence, in order to rekindle his relationship with his brother Clint (Dan Payne). They went on hunts with their father when they were kids, so the plan is to revisit. They leave Clint’s wife Sophie (Briana Buckmaster) and their kids, and set out into the woods. Ominously, it was warned that the last known person who...

Do You Have the Courage to Face the Devil in the Dark?
Tagline: "There's no escape from this." A few details are emerging for Tim J. Brown's (The Cradle) Devil in the Dark. This title will be launching through Video-on-demand platforms in early March. The film stars: Robin Dunne (Sanctuary), Dan Payne (Star Trek: Beyond), Daniel Cudmore and Briana Buckmaster. In the story, brothers Adam and Clint discover a supernatural power, on a long distance hunting trip. Finally, the film's official artwork is here, with more details to follow. The film's artwork looks very Danny Darko-esque. A large antlered entity looms over a small child, with the forest blanketed in fog. It is obvious that the brother's childhoods are influencing the present, with very little light in the darkness. Indie horror fans will not have to wait long to see this title. Devil in the Dark launches on March 7th, 2017. As well, a trailer is expected to roll this way shortly...
