An Open Secret (2014)
Amy Berg's Hollywood child sex-abuse doc 'An Open Secret' is destined to provoke
An Open Secret (2014)
If HBO's Scientology documentary "Going Clear" is any indication, the American public is hungry for damning exposés on the Hollywood establishment. Enter "An Open Secret," a new documentary by Oscar-nominated director Amy Berg ("Deliver Us from Evil," "West of Memphis") that shines a light on the sexual exploitation of young boys in the entertainment industry. The film features interviews with such former child stars as Corey Feldman and Todd Bridges as well as Michael Egan III, the man who accused "X-Men" director Bryan Singer and several other high-ranking Hollywood figures of drugging and raping him when he was a teenager in the late 1990s (Egan's lawsuits were later dropped due to inconsistencies in his story). Coinciding with the trailer's release, the film's producers -- clearly anticipating that Egan's recent conviction for fraud and the withdrawal of his numerous lawsuits could potentially damage the film's credibility -- have released a statement...

Bryan Singer at an event for Valkyrie (2008)
When Michael Egan filed a lawsuit accusing director Bryan Singer of sexual abuse, the allegations got all of Hollywood talking - and some scrambling to figure out the next steps for his upcoming movies and TV shows. The lawsuit - in which Egan, 31, alleges the director forced him into sex when Egan was an aspiring teen actor lured into a drug-fueled party scene notorious within Hollywood's entertainment industry - has cast an intense spotlight on Singer, 48, whose film X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release on May 23. Bryan Singer at an event for Valkyrie (2008)
Hollywood Sex Abuse Documentary May Include 'X-Men' Director
Bryan Singer at an event for Valkyrie (2008)
Earlier this week, The Wrap reported that a federal lawsuit has been filed that accuses X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy named Michael Egan in 1999. Today, it has been confirmed that Michael Egan is also working with filmmaker Amy Berg (West of Memphis, Deliver Us From Evil) on a new documentary about sexual abuse in Hollywood.

Amy Berg confirmed that she has been working on the project for the past two years, through her Disarming Films production company, but she wouldn't comment any further. The Daily Mail reports that the filmmaker seemed surprised that Michael Egan went public with the lawsuit against Bryan Singer, although it isn't known if Michael Egan has been interviewed on camera, or what his involvement in the documentary may be.

Here's what an unidentified source close to Michael Egan had to say in a statement.

"Just this week,...

West Of Memphis Documentarian Moves To Drama With Diane Lane
You might say documentarian Amy Berg is drawn to the dark side of human nature. To date she's directed two feature-length documentaries, Deliver Us From Evil and West of Memphis, both of which deal with true crimes committed against young children. The former focused on the horrific exploits of Father Oliver O'Grady, a Catholic priest accused of molesting dozens of children; the latter investigated the infamous case of the West Memphis Three who were accused of mutilating and murdering three young boys. But notably, both also dealt with seeking justice. Now in the works on her third feature, a documentary with the provocative title This Is America, Berg is making plans to branch out into narrative film, but she's taking her penchant for crime and punishment stories with her. Variety reports Berg has signed on to make her narrative directorial debut on Every Secret Thing, a thriller penned by Nicole...

Ex-Priest Jailed For Child Porn
London (AP) — A defrocked Roman Catholic priest who admitted molesting more than 20 children in California has been sentenced to three years in prison in Ireland for possessing child pornography, court officials said Tuesday.

Oliver O'Grady, 66, was arrested in Dublin in December 2010 after leaving a computer containing pornographic images of children on a flight from Amsterdam.

O'Grady worked in northern California from 1971 until 1993, when he was arrested for abusing two brothers. He served seven years in prison and was deported to his native Ireland in 2000. He later moved to the Netherlands for several years.

O'Grady was the subject of the Academy Award-nominated 2006 documentary "Deliver Us From Evil." In the film he spoke openly of abusing more than 20 children as he was shuffled from one parish to another in California through the 1970s and 80s.

The Dutch Catholic Church came under fire in 2010 after it emerged that O'Grady had been working as...

The 25 Scariest Moments in Non-Horror Movies

The most frightening movie moments can arrive out of nowhere, in the midst of where they shouldn't belong, catching you when you're vulnerable -- which is why there are a few alleged children's films on this list. But they can also creep up on you, working a different kind of dread, which is where some of the documentaries included below fit in. Fear is a funny thing. It comes in different varieties, it can work its way on you in unanticipated, and, as our collection here proves,...
