Jack Derges

‘Soldier of War’ VOD Review
Stars: John Rhys-Davies, Rosie Fellner, Tanya Franks, Theo Devaney, Paul Reynolds, Jack Derges, Gary Mavers, Sally Mortemore, Tristam Summers, James Fisher, Michael Elkin | Written by John Adams, Peter Adams | Directed by John Adams

I’m not sure if I should be surprised or not but there seems to be quite a few World War II zombie movies, or movies that can kind of be linked to World War 2 and the undead – there’s definitely enough for it to be called a sub genre on its own. So Soldier of War (aka Aux) can be added to Dead Snow, Overlord, Outpost, Frankenstein’s Army and a myriad more.

Soldier of War is a British film and it, like many of its kind, feels very British. From the police uniforms to the woodland and countryside to the accents; it will be very familiar to people from the U.K. and horror fans...

Interview: John Adams discusses Brit Horror ‘Aux’
Aux is the latest film from Evolutionary Films and stars John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, The Shannara Chronicles), Rosie Fellner (Liar, Heist, Age of Heroes), Tristam Summers (Eastenders, Hollyoaks, Tin Holiday), Paul Reynolds (Terminal, Level Up, Eddie The Eagle), Tanya Franks (Chewing Gum, Broadchurch, Liz & Dick), Jack Derges (Eastenders, Humans) and Theo Devaney (Supernatural, Once Upon A Time In London).

Deep in the woods, two boys discover the entrance to a secret military bunker that has remained hidden since World War II. They awaken something so deadly that one boy doesn’t make it out alive and the other flees for his life, only to be hit by a car. A police investigation begins but, one by one, even the armed police are hunted and killed in grotesque and almost ritualistic ways. Meanwhile, at a local nursing home, an elderly WWII veteran watches all of this unfold...

Humans: The lines between man and machine blur in episode 6
Five episodes down and the motives of Edwin Hobb remained ambiguous, but this week's Humans starts to draw back the veil on Danny Webb's hitherto intimidating professor.

It seemed Hobb was working to obliterate David Elster's work, but episode six reveals that he has spared Fred (Sope Dirisu) and is less a villain, more another would-be pioneer - albeit a misguided one.

Hobb softens as the series draws parallels between him and other characters; most obviously George Millican, but also Leo, who - like Hobb - is part-man, part-machine.

In a dramatic shift, Fred changes from victim to antagonist as he responds violently to being held hostage - but this is far from the only role reversal that Humans offers up in episode six.

Joe Hawkins (Tom Goodman-Hill) was once a genial and sympathetic patriarch - now he's cast out and despised by his wife and children. Laura (Katherine Parkinson...

The intimate, psychological sci-fi of Humans
Humans has already been a big hit for Channel 4. Ryan looks at what makes its low-key approach to sci-fi so brilliantly effective...

Warnings: contains mild spoilers for Humans episodes one and two.

A delicious air of tension hangs like cobwebs over Humans, the Channel 4 and AMC co-production which began airing earlier this month. It presents a near-future where a new breed of robots - called Synths - are both cheap and commonplace. They clean our schools, look after our elderly and do our cooking and cleaning.

The Synths carry out their menial tasks with serene eyes and an eerie half-smile, yet not everyone is comforted by their presence. Take Laura Hawkins (Katherine Parkinson), for example: a busy mother of two, she returns home from work one day to discover that her husband Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) has purchased a Synth called Anita (Gemma Chan) to help with the household chores.
