The Office has been a game-changer when it comes to sitcoms. The American mockumentary somehow ended up being much better than the British original and has established itself as one of the finest comedy masterpieces in the television industry. Whether it’s Steve Carell’s quirky Michael Scott or Jim and Pam’s oh-so-adorable relationship, The Office USA has given us so much to remember.

The Australian version of The Office is the latest take on the original UK TV show, so some fans are wondering how it stacks up against the original version as well as the beloved US version. The Office Australia is a 2024 adaptation of Ricky Gervais' mockumentary sitcom that explores the mundanity of office life through the eyes of an inept, obnoxious, and, at their core, loving boss who is just trying to make the most of a job that does not have a lot of joy in it.
While the US and UK The Offices are the most popular series, there have been several iterations of the template from different countries. In total, 16 countries have a The Office version, and the Australian version, which debuted in October 2024 on Amazon Prime Video, is the latest. This series is set in a packaging company in Sydney, Australia, just after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic,...

The Office is so popular that the concept has been remade for many different countries. Though it started in the UK with Ricky Gervais' David Brent leading a cast of eccentric characters, the story was soon redone for US audiences with Steve Carell's Michael Scott in charge of the workplace. However, the latest version of the story, The Office Australia, makes one major change that points out the biggest flaw of its predecessors, particularly the beloved US series. In this iteration, the boss is Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), marking the first time a woman has led the show. Ward met sexist backlash by saying, "Of course, they're gonna come for me." The actress takes it in stride, having experienced this kind of hatred, and has continued to do her best as the character.

The Office fans have moved overseas and we seem to have mixed feelings about our new work place. The Australian version of The Office is now streaming on Prime Video and if you're unsure about it we're here to help by sharing what both critics and fans have to say.
Fans of the original series starring Steve Carell and John Krasinski were apprehensive about the launch of a remake. Simply put, The Office is a precious gem to many. Based on the British series of the same name (starring Ricky Gervais), The Office 2024 takes us to Australia, where audiences follow the employees of Finley Craddick, a packaging company. The concept of both the British series and the American version are the same, more or less. It is a workplace comedy/mockumentary. What brings it to life are the colorful characters, all led by a larger-than-life boss.

The new Australian reboot of The Office has become a smash hit for Prime Video, despite some intense backlash from the sitcom's die-hard fan base. Starring Felicity Ward, the new series takes place at the Aussie packaging company, Finley Craddick, who are trying to bounce back after the Covid pandemic forced everyone to work from home. The new show stars a female lead (which fans are way more upset about than they have any right to be), and Australian counterparts for all your favorite Dunder Mifflin employees.

The BBC Studios Anz General Manager and Creative Director of Production knows new versions of Death in Paradise, The Office and Top Gear require full attention to succeed, especially with buyers hesitant to put their hands in their pockets and more willing than ever to pull the trigger on disappointments.

Prime Video is moving forward with another remake of The Office, with Michael Scott's counterpart detailed. Although adaptations of the popular workplace comedy are nothing new, with the NBC hit itself an adaptation of the Ricky Gervais original, the latest Australian iteration of The Office has received a bigger spotlight and so far split reactions from both audiences and critics.
Variety confirms that Prime Video is moving forward with a Mexican remake of The Office, which hails from Amazon MGM Studios. The project will be titled La Oficina and available in Latin America, Brazil, and Spain. The remake hails from Gary Gaz Alazraki, who will direct and executive produce. Marcos Bucay, meanwhile, serves as showrunner on the project that is part of the overall deal signed between Amazon MGM Studios and production company Mquina Vega.

Well, here we go again. The Office — the still-influential mockumentary sitcom created in 2001 by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant — returns in yet another regional guise. Like any good expanding business looking for mass market penetration, this series has had international branches in almost every time zone: there’s been Le Bureau in France, Konttori in Finland, Os Aspones in Brazil. But The Office, Australian edition, is significant for being only the third English-language take, after the original British vintage and the all-conquering American version, which ran for nine seasons and remains one of the most streamed shows of all time.
All of which begs the question: why would we need another one? Surely by now, most people in Australia will have already seen this workplace comedy in either its British or American iteration? Not to mention the fact that, post-pandemic, the physical bricks-and-mortar...

We're heading twenty thousand leagues under the sea, behind the scenes of a superhero blockbuster, and returning to the therapist's sofa in a jam-packed episode of the Pilot TV Podcast this week. First up, on the guesting front, Captain Nemo himself, Shazad Latif, joins us this week to chat Nautilus on Prime Video with our very own journalistic old sea dog James Dyer [26:53 — 43:02 approx]. Later, The Office Australia star Felicity Ward also stops by to chat dance moves, the pressure of being the next David Brent/Michael Scott, and the smell of breaking waters with the Gareth of our office, Jordan King [1:02:33 — 1:20:04 approx].
Back in the pod booth, the pod squad discuss what they've been watching this week (mostly Rivals and The Devil's Hour S2); tackle a tricky listener's question on chameleonic actors; and get stuck into a pretty surprisingly light week for TV news, which included Slow Horses' Season 6 renewal and...

The Australian remake of The Office has bombed on review site Rotten Tomatoes mere days after the full first season was released on streaming. Based on the hit British mockumentary sitcom of the same name, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office 2024 is the second international iteration of the show, following the hugely successful NBC adaptation starring Steve Carrell as Michael Scott, which aired from 2005 to 2012. The new reboot of The Office stars an ensemble cast, including Felicity Ward, Shari Sebbens, and Steen Raskopoulos, and debuted on Prime Video on October 18.
Unlike its predecessors, the show has not been particularly well received, and according to review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the show has received poor audience reviews, but, interestingly, has received positive reviews from critics. The latest remake of beloved sitcom The Office features its first female lead, with Felicity Ward starring as the new boss, Hannah Howard. The idea of another remake, and a female-led one at that, has led to certain section of society (otherwise known as sexists) flat-out rejecting the series, as well as resulting in a lot of backlash online. As is sadly the way these days. Now, in an interview with THR, Ward has responded directly to the negative reaction directed at both the show and her in the lead role, saying, Ive been a stand-up comedian for 16 years. Ive had this sh*t before, like that just exists.
I mean, its like everyones asking me Do you feel the pressure? And Ive heard that 40 times in the last week. Are you feeling pressure, Felicity? Are you getting the pressure? What do you think of the pressure? Hows the pressure getting to you?...

The Office created a major sensation in the mockumentary sitcom genre in 2005. The public was still reeling from the conclusion of Friends, so it gave them the much-needed alternative for their laughter-filled evenings. Based on the British series of the same name, it starred Steve Carell as the lead Michael Scott. After its conclusion in 2013, fans were excited about the possibility of a reunion or a reboot.

Steve Carell snagging the role of Michael Scott over a Breaking Bad star? Yeah, that twist might sound crazy, but once you dig into Carell’s philosophy, it all starts making sense. Back when The Office was hunting for its lead, Carell didn’t just deliver laughs—he brought a whole vibe, a depth that went beyond slapstick.

Meanwhile, his competitor, though talented, couldn’t quite nail the same magic Carell radiated. It wasn’t just about the jokes—it was Carell’s belief that comedy hits hardest when it’s wrapped in authenticity. That’s what gave him the edge, hands down.

When the US version of The Office was first announced, the reception to it wasn’t initially great, as fans of the Ricky Gervais show weren’t convinced if the Steve Carell-led version could live up to the original. Two decades later, Aussie star Felicity Ward has found herself in a similar position, as fans of the US version, especially that of Michael Scott, aren’t too thrilled about the new reimagining with a female boss at the center.

“New Office. New Aussie boss.”
That’s the tagline for the new Australian version of The Office, that launches Oct. 18 on Amazon Prime Video everywhere, except the U.S. The latest iteration — the thirteenth different country version of the BBC workplace sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant that incredibly first hit screens in 2001 — has garnered a lot of chatter on social media, YouTube and in the global press, not least because it is another accessible English-language adaptation that follows the beloved British and U.S. versions, but also because it is the first adaptation that features a female boss.
The set-up to the Aussie Office follows the tried and tested franchise formula: the mockumentary style, the boredom, the assortment of odd ball characters, the will-they-won’t-they office romance, and of course the overconfident, delusional boss lacking in self awareness. Australian standup comedian and actress Felicity Ward heads the cast of the Aussie Office,...

No! God! No! God! Please! No! Yes, The Office has been remade once again, this time in Australia. Prime Video is at the helm of the latest take, transporting audiences to a new office with a new boss in Felicity Wards Hannah Howard, who gets word that her branch will be shut down to work remotely. The idea of another remake of the hit sitcom was not met well by fans, and the reviews are now in, so how does The Office Australia fare against both the award-winning British original and its beloved U.S. counterpart?
We begin with a scathing review from Luke Buckmaster of The Guardian, who gives the remake just 1/5 and calls the series an edgeless reboot doomed for the shredder.

Under her eccentric leadership, the tiny office faces potential closure as remote work grows more accepted. But Hannah refuses to let her quirky “family” disband so easily. When you think of spin-offs, one of the most popular that comes to mind is naturally The Office. First spun from the BBC production of the same name by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the workplace sitcom became a global staple, with audiences quickly latching on to its charm. Yet as it goes, the most beloved iteration remains the American version, with Steve Carells Michael Scott embodying a uniquely awkward, try-hard energy that echoes Gervais David Brent. Years after that series finale, the franchise has now landed in Australia and swaps the bumbling male boss for Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), a regional manager with a distinct brand of misguided enthusiasm. Following the Prime Video series' trailer debut, the thirteenth adaptation in The Office franchise received backlash online some of it rooted in explicit sexism rather than any real flaw. But having reviewed the shows rather hilarious first season, its exciting...

The Office remake's Michael Scott counterpart was "approved" by the show's original star. The mockumentary sitcom originally began as a British series created by and starring Ricky Gervais as David Brent, the office's general manager, which ran for two seasons from 2001 to 2003. The American version, adapted for NBC by Greg Daniels, starred Steve Carell as the regional manager Michael Scott, airing for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. Now, two more remakes of The Office are on the way, including an Australian version starring Felicity Ward as managing director Hannah Howard.
Appearing at Prime Video's Trailblazers event celebrating women in film and television (via Deadline), Felicity Ward revealed that Ricky Gervais "approved" of her female lead in the Australian version of The Office. Not only did the show's original creator and star approve, but he was "very excited" about the prospect of a female lead, Ward revealed. Read her full comments below:...

The fan base may have preemptively turned against the female-led, Australian reboot of The Office, but the new series has the approval of the World's Best Boss himself... Ricky Gervais. The Office Au (it should have been called The Office Down Under) stars Felicity Ward as Hannah Howard, the branch manager of Flinley Craddick, a box company based in Sydney. The new series features Aussie versions of fan-favorite characters, both from the U.K. and the U.S. versions of the show. Despite being the 11th international remake of The Office, the Australian version has garnered particular hatred from fans, partly due to its female lead.
Speaking at the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event (via Variety), Felicity Ward discussed her leading role in the series, and the backlash towards the new reboot. The comedian and actress didn't seem phased by the negative backlash from bigoted fans, because she has approval...

This new Brent is okay. Australian actress Felicity Ward has revealed Ricky Gervais “approved” of her interpretation of his iconic awful boss character in The Office.
Actor and comedian Ward is playing Hannah Howard in The Office Australia, which launches on Prime Video outside of the U.S. on October 18. Though the show has been remade in numerous countries, with the famous David Brent character reinterpreted many time, this marks the first time the gender has been changed.
Ward was appearing at the Prime Video Trailblazers event celebrating women in film and TV here in London today. “Ricky Gervais has approved of a female lead — he’s very excited about a female lead,” she half-joked to an audience today, adding: “Just in case anyone is angry.”

Felicity Ward, star of Australia’s forthcoming “The Office” adaptation, has reassured any concerned fans that Ricky Gervais personally approved her casting.
“Ricky Gervais has approved a female lead, he’s very excited about a female lead — just in case anyone is angry,” Ward quipped during the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event on Tuesday in London, where she debuted a trailer from the series.
Asked about how she was feeling about the show’s imminent release on Prime Video in Australia and the U.K. on Oct. 18, she said jokingly: “Pretty chill actually. English people and people that love ‘The Office,’ they’re like, ‘Hey, whatever you do with it is fine.'”
Ward is set to play Hannah Howard, manager of Sydney-based box company Flinley Craddick, in a gender-flipped version of Gervais’ iconic paper company boss David Brent.

With another The Office remake on the way, the release of the first trailer has revealed the new version's decision to copy a choice also made by the US adaptation - but there's no guarantee it'll pay off this time around. The Office's US cast will go down in history as one of the greatest ensembles in TV history. The workplace comedy was incredibly character-led, and the quality of the acting and comedic timing were huge factors in the show's success.
The remake in question shouldn't be confused with the upcoming reboot of The Office - which will be a continuation set in the same world as the US version, but with a new set of characters. The trailer that's been released is more of a traditional remake, and this much is clear from the teaser footage shown. So, there could conceivably be a time when there are two...

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office has been remade once again, this time in Australia. Here’s the trailer.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s original version of The Office launched on the BBC in 2001. It introduced the world to boss from hell David Brent (Gervais) as he attempted to look good in front of the cameras documenting his workplace, paper merchants Wernham Hogg, alongside staff including Tim (Martin Freeman) Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) and Dawn (Lucy Davis).
All while trying to stay onside with bullying best mate Chris Finch (Ralph Ineson) and, in the second series, his new boss from the Swindon branch, Neil (Patrick Baladi).
Gervais and Merchant took cringe comedy to the extreme, with Brent becoming a byword for social awkwardness and inappropriate behaviour.
Since then, there have been 13 international versions, with Greg Daniels’ American version starring Steve Carrell being far and away the most successful,...

Prime Video has released the first trailer for the female-led, Australian version of The Office. Starring Felicity Ward as Hannah Howard (the Australian equivalent of Michael Scott), the series puts a more modern spin on the now well-worn workplace mockumentary sitcom. Set in the present day, the series follows the employees of Finley Craddick as they're forced back into the office full-time, following the Covid pandemic.
The new trailer gives audiences the best look yet at the show's zany cast of characters. No office manager would be complete without their own Dwight Schrute, and Hannah's comes in the form of productivity manager Lizzie (Edith Poor). Finley Craddick even has its own Jim and Pam stand-ins in Nick (Steen Raskopoulos) and Greta (Shari Sebbens). The trailer features much of the same cringy, awkward humor that defined both the U.K. and U.S. versions of the show. Check out the trailer below:

The Office is back! Well, a version of it.
Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer to the Australian adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s enduring classic comedy series The Office, and we finally get a proper glimpse at the Aussie variants of Brent, Tim, Dawn, Gareth and more.
With NBC’s follow-up to the U.S. adaptation of The Office still in development, global fans of the franchise can sate themselves in the meantime with an Aussie attempt at the mockumentary-style comedy.
Just one (big) catch, though: The Office Australia will be available on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide from Oct. 18, except, that is, in the U.S. That’s nothing a Vpn can’t fix, however, if you’re really keen.

“Time Bandits” has been canceled by Apple TV+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
The fantasy series, starring Lisa Kudrow, follows a group of thieves and their newest recruit — an 11-year-old boy named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) — hopping across time and space to plunder riches. Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris and Taika Waititi created the series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s 1981 cult classic, with Clement and Morris serving as co-showrunners.
Along with Kudrow and Tuck, the cast includes Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Charlyne Yi, Rune Temte, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills and Imaan Hadchiti.
Clement, Morris and Waititi wrote and directed select episodes of “Time Bandits” Season 1; they also executive produced alongside Garrett Basch, Jane Stanton for Handmade Films and Tim Coddington. The now-defunct Paramount TV Studios produced with Anonymous Content’s AC Studios and MRC Television.
In July, Morris spoke to Variety about introducing “Time Bandits” to a new audience.

Time Bandits‘ latest adventure has come to an end. Apple TV+ has opted not to renew the series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s cult classic film for a second season. The news comes almost a month after the 10-episode first season of the fantasy series starring Lisa Kudrow ended its run, released in batches of two episodes weekly.
The development is not entirely surprising. Despite the nostalgia factor and mostly favorable reviews (78% on Rotten Tomatoes), Time Bandits, created by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris and Taika Waititi, did not attract large enough audience and was not able to crack Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming rankings.

The Office is going Down Under! Here’s what to know about the Australian version of the classic comedy!
The Office has had a fascinating history. Premiering in England in 2001, it was a mockumentary about a paper company branch with Ricky Gervais in his star-making role as its manager. Much of the comedy stemmed from Gervais believing he was a respected boss loved by his peers when he was really an incompetent, arrogant jerk.
The show’s impact has been felt as adaptations have been seen in over a dozen countries around the world. The most famous is the NBC version that ran nine seasons and made stars out of Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and more.
There are plans for a sequel series called The Paper to air on Peacock in 2025. But before that, Prime Video will release the Australian take on the show that offers...

A loose spinoff of The Office is also being made for Peacock, but there have already been international versions of the sitcom.
The Office's Australian remake reveals the first image of Michael Scott's replacement. A loose spinoff of The Office is coming to Peacock, which will feature the same documentary camera crew from the Steve Carell series. You cringed at David Brent. You came to love Michael Scott. Now, get ready to meet Hannah Howard – the latest nightmare boss in a new take on The Office. The legendary comedy sitcom – which originated with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s 2001 mockumentary series in the UK, and spawned the mega-smash US version in 2005 – is now delivering a version from Australia, ready to send audiences to the corporate culture of Down Under. The series – officially titled The Office, but sure to be known as ‘The Australian Office’, or ‘The Office Australia’ once it arrives – is coming to Prime Video in the UK from 18 October.
This time, The Office won’t take place at a paper company like Wernham Hogg or Dunder Mifflin – it’ll be set at Flinley Craddock, a packaging company where major cuts are about to threaten the workforce. It’s up to Hannah Howard to try and keep everything together.
