It feels just like yesterday when Disney announced that a fifth Descendants movie was in the works, and now, the studio has announced that the movie has taken a major step on our screens. And while it feels like time flew, we didn't travel through time. Production on the movie began in April, and fast-forward to about two months later, filming has now wrapped. The update was announced in a video posted on the official Disney Instagram account.
The video features franchise stars Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker dressed as themselves in the present day. After a brief introduction, Cantrall picks up the antique pocket watch that serves as a time travel machine in the movie. After both agree to use it, they are transformed into their respective characters, Princess Red and Princess Chloe. Surprised, they ask an unseen person, "What day is it?" and they get the response, "It's the last day of production.

Get ready for a return to Auradon as we’re getting a new Descendants movie!
If there’s one thing Disney Channel knows how to do, it’s franchise a movie hit. It’s been done since High School Musical became a monster success in 2006 and still continues today. When said film is a musical, it can be even bigger.
That was the case with Descendants, the 2015 film that reimagined the classic Disney villains. The plot had the bad guys sent to an island by the heroes. The children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella De Vil were sent to an academy as part of a peace process.
At first baddies, the kids soon grew to enjoy being good guys to turn on their families. The film was a success that inspired two sequels and an animated series.
In 2024, the property was revived in Descendants: The Rise of Red.

Kimmy Gatewood (The Baby-sitter’s Club) is set to direct from a script by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna (Sneakerella) and Dan Frey and Ru Sommer (Descendants: The Rise of Red). Producer of “Something From Tiffany’s” Lauren Neustadter credits costars Kendrick Sampson (“Insecure”) and Zoey Deutch, as well as casting director Ronna Kress, with transforming the story of the film, adapted from Melissa Hill’s book that came out over a decade ago.
“I read it when it was in galley [advanced, not finished format] and it’s a delightful book with an A+ movie premise. I immediately gravitated towards the premise of the book,” Neustadter told TheWrap in a recent interview. “I thought the characters were incredibly charming, but it wasn’t the kind of thing where there was a lot of specificity around the roles and the backgrounds of each of the characters. It was written in a bit of a different moment in time, and so we were imagining the script now, and we were imagining making the movie now. It was just something that I think we wanted to make sure that we were incredibly inclusive.

Zoey Deutch has had quite a year with the diverse roles she’s played. In March, she was an FBI informant in Graham Moore’s The Outfit. Her next role in Not Okay saw her as Danni Sanders, an aspiring writer with a lust for stretching the truth. Deutch’s latest sees her return to the romantic comedy genre, in which she receives an engagement ring meant for someone else. Based on the novel of the same name by Melissa Hill, Something from Tiffany’s combines misfortune and fate in peculiar ways. Directed by Daryl Wein from a screenplay by Tamara Chestna, the film has all the ingredients one might appreciate in a holiday rom-com. Yet, Something from Tiffany’s lacks a good enough script and the chemistry it needs to make anyone want to sit through another holiday rom-com.

‘Something from Tiffany’s’ Review: A Warm but Weak-Spirited Rom-Com that Isn’t Worthy of Zoey Deutch
Twenty-eight-year-old actress Zoey Deutch was either born at the wrong time to star in romantic comedies, or at the perfect time to redeem them. If only it were both. If only people were still making rom-coms worthy of the light and lovability that Deutch — who previously flirted with the genre in Netflix’s “Set It Up,” between spikier roles in the likes of “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Not Okay” — is more capable of bringing to them than just about anyone this side of Meg Ryan.
But they’re not, and nowhere is that more obvious than in like “Something from Tiffany’s,” which gives Deutch a chance to shine at full-wattage during a movie that can hardly muster the energy to power a string of Christmas lights. I guess it’s fitting that her character is more of a Hanukkah kind of girl, because the fire she brings to the role...

There’s nothing like New York City during Christmas: the packed streets of Soho and Midtown, the tourist-dense holiday market in Bryant Park, the unexpected bursts of snow.
There’s magic in the air, no doubt, but chaos too, as is evident in “Something From Tiffany’s,” a new streaming Christmas romantic comedy, a genre already rich in entries. A mix-up between two boyfriends at the iconic jewelry store Tiffany leads to a mix-up for the ages: one woman’s engagement ring winds up on the wrong hand.
At the helm of “Something From Tiffany’s” is ingenue du jour Zoey Deutch (“Not Okay”) as Rachel, a strong-willed, career-oriented baker who tolerates her longtime tattoo artist boyfriend Gary. He’s often disappointing her — showing up late or missing an obligation — forcing him to make up for his own incompetence with gifts and gestures of affection.

Amazon Studios has unveiled the first stills from its holiday romantic comedy Something from Tiffany’s, starring Zoey Deutch (Not Okay) and Kendrick Sampson (Insecure), which is poised to launch globally on Prime Video on December 9th.
The Amazon Original, based on Melissa Hill’s novel of the same name, watches as a woman’s life is upended, when an engagement ring meant for someone else leads her to the person she’s meant to be with.
Nothing compares to the magic and excitement of the holidays in New York City, where the streets blaze with lights, windows dazzle, and a special box from Tiffany could change the course of a person’s life. Or several lives. Rachel and Gary (Deutch and Ray Nicholson) are happy enough, but not quite ready for that big commitment. Ethan and Vanessa (Sampson and Shay Mitchell), the perfect picture, are just about to make it official.

In the frequently picked-over corpse of author Charles Perrault’s classic story “Cinderella,” centered on a servant girl who rises from obscurity after falling in love with a prince, lie such themes as perseverance, hope and the value of being a dreamer. These are the cornerstone principles of the Disney corporation, founded by a fellow dreamer who, similar to the plucky protagonist in the fairy tale, made a wish and saw it come true. Though the studio has plundered these riches before with the likes of the popular 1997 TV movie musical and 2015’s lavish live-action feature, Disney+ original “Sneakerella” amounts to a modernized, more tween-oriented telling. Director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum’s re-sole of the story, which sees a talented teen fantasizing about designing sneakers for sports royalty, delivers a poignant take on the 1950s animated film it partially cannibalizes.

A quiet student finds her voice in print, battling everyday sexism at her high school in Poehler’s forthright but fun #MeToo drama
A breezy tale of riot grrrl power passed down from mother to daughter, Amy Poehler’s return to the director’s chair (after 2019’s Wine Country) is a winningly optimistic high-school romp with timely #MeToo-era themes. Adapted by screenwriters Tamara Chestna and Dylan Meyer from the hit YA novel by Jennifer Mathieu, it may lack the depth of Eighth Grade or the punch of Booksmart, but it’s still blessed with enough post-punk energy to raise a smile, several chuckles and the occasional fist-punching cheer.
Hadley Robinson is Vivian, a head-down student (“It’s so nice not to be on anyone’s radar”) voted “most obedient” in the crass list compiled by high-school jocks, grotesquely ranking girls in categories including “best rack” and “most bangable”. Like the majority of her female schoolmates,...

Blame suburban life: Former riot grrl Lisa (Amy Poehler) has mellowed since her days as a patriarchy-smashing punk-rock princess. She’s raised her only child, the sweet-natured Vivian (Hadley Robinson), on a steady diet of Bikini Kill lyrics and feminist bon mots, but Viv has never felt the call to tear down the status quo. That’s about to change. When the earnest “Moxie” — which Poehler also directed — opens, unassuming Vivian is stuck in a terrible nightmare, trapped in the woods, terrified, running, and literally unable to use her own voice to save herself. , and it seems telling that Viv’s nightmare unfolds the night before she head back to Rockport High School for her junior year.
Rockport High, like many an on-screen high school before it, is defined by its many cliques, and neither Vivian nor her best pal Claudia (Lauren Tsai) fit in any of them. Bookish and smart,...

It’s been 15 years since screenwriter Tina Fey brought peace to the teenage girl world with the groundbreaking “Mean Girls.” Now it’s her frequent creative partner Amy Poehler’s turn to stride the hallways of a contemporary high school, searching for harmony and justice among the heightened emotions and high-stakes conundrums of young adults.
Marking the multi-hyphenate Poehler’s return to the director’s chair after her casually comforting “Wine Country,” the good-natured dramedy “Moxie” isn’t nearly as sharp as “Mean Girls,” lacking its hilarious wit and unwavering bite, often erring on the side of didacticism and broadness in similarly charting a fed-up young woman’s awakening against her high school’s hostile, victimizing culture. Still, it’s a welcome entry into a familiar genre that will resonate with young audiences burdened by the unwritten rules of their respective educational institutions. Amy Poehler is here to start a revolution — in her teen daughter’s high school. In the first trailer for her film “Moxie” that’s all scored to the classic Bikini Kill song, a group of teenage “Rebel Girls” work to disrupt the sexist norms at their high school by starting a punk rock zine.
Hadley Robinson stars as Poehler’s 16-year-old daughter in the film who tries to keep her head down to avoid pestering and harassment by the jock kids who look to rank girls by their body parts and bangability. But she’s woken up when a new student played by Alycia Pascual-Pena helps her to realize that girls in high school don’t have to put up with this stuff.
Together they’re inspired by her mother’s rebellious past to publish an anonymous underground zine called Moxie and become the center of a feminist rebellion.

Sony’s TriStar Pictures is making a sequel to the 1989 comedy “Troop Beverly Hills” that starred Shelley Long, and the studio has set Oran Zegman to make her feature directorial debut on the project.
Aeysha Carr, who is the showrunner on “Woke” and is currently writing Paramount’s “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” remake starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart, wrote the script, and it’s now undergoing a remake by Tamara Chestna (“Moxie”), who will also have a producing role. It’s unclear if any of the original cast will return.
“Troop Beverly Hills” is the story of a pampered Beverly Hills housewife who tried to prove to her daughter that she could rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader and care for a group of girls. The film provided early roles for Carla Gugino and musician Jenny Lewis, among others, and has become a cult classic thanks to its feminist themes and warm heart.

The coronavirus threat is touching every corner of the entertainment industry. So far, movie theaters, concerts and nightclubs have not been affected. But as more confirmed cases arise, some music industryites are wondering what the next few months may bring.
The SXSW conference is getting out ahead of the news. The Austin, Texas festival, set for March 13-22, combines separate film, technology and music elements for a weeks-long extravaganza that annually lures thousands to the city. On Friday, the show organizers issued an advisory on the convention to attendees and those wondering whether they should move forward with plans.
On a side note, the Game Developers Conference, Facebook’s F8 and several other technology conferences announced they were postponing or cancelling their events this week. Logic dictates it’s only a matter of time before that bleeds over into entertainment, particularly as the summer concert season approaches and plans must be made.
