Review: Nautilus Episode 4 pits crew vs crew on a deserted island
Image
Episode 4 of Nautilus, "Slippery When Wet" begins with the Nautilus again facing down the pursuing dreadnought. The dreadnought fires upon the Nautilus and intentionally misses, although the explosion still rocks the ship. Once again, a reckless Nemo leaves the Nautilus, this time without a diving suit. He swims over and takes an axe to the turret on the dreadnought. Upon breaking it he is thrown back from the resulting blast.

Billy Millais (Luke Arnold) has flashbacks to his shared childhood with Nemo, when the both of them were bullies by classmates. I’m curious to see if he ever switches sides. At times, he is bothered by the racism of the company men, but then he does his job when needed.

Nemo is rescued and revived back on the Nautilus. The damage inflicted on the dreadnought buys them time to make it out of the bay.

‘Nautilus’ Trailer Drops for Series Inspired by ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,’ Coming to AMC and AMC+ in June
Image
Jules Verne’s classic tale of underwater exploration gets a fresh twist with the upcoming series ‘Nautilus’. I’m excited to see how this show reimagines the world of Captain Nemo, blending high-seas adventure with a gritty fight for freedom. It’s a story that’s been told before, but this version feels like it’s carving its own path, diving deep into a historical clash of power and rebellion.

Set in 1857, the series drops us into a time when the British East India Company ruled with an iron grip, plundering wealth and controlling private armies. We follow a group of prisoners, led by a brilliant but vengeful mind, as they seize a groundbreaking submersible vessel. Their escape into the ocean sparks a thrilling chase, with danger lurking above and below the waves. The show promises stunning underwater visuals—think massive sea creatures and uncharted depths—paired with intense battles against a ruthless enemy.

A prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's literary masterpiece Treasure Island, the rip-roaring program ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2017 and became a smash success for Starz, though in the years since its dazzling tenure Black Sails has become an overlooked entry in the world of television. 'Black Sails' is Streaming on Tubi from December 1
Image
Pirates of the Caribbean brought swashbuckling adventure back to the big screen in 2003, and that instigated a wave of pirate-themed movies and TV shows on the back of it. Almost a decade after Jack Sparrow created a new pirate legend, Black Sails weighed anchor as a more mature offering that gave the characters of Robert Louis Stephenson’s Treasure Island new backstories in what really played out as Game of Thrones on the high seas. Now the series is coming to free streaming on Tubi, allowing those who have not yet watched the show to catch all the gritty action for free.

Originally broadcast from 2014 to 2017, the Treasure Island prequel features several familiar characters, including a certain John Silver and Captain Flint, as well as some real-life historical figures who cross paths with the fictional pirates years before the events of Stephenson’s novel. Essentially, what Wicked did for The Wizard of Oz....

Black Sails Most Powerful Character Is Hiding in Plain Sight
Image
When we look at it through a certain lens, Black Sails is a show that is all about power. First and foremost, of course, the series concerns itself with the power of a great story. Its ending, in particular, is entirely dedicated to how art shapes our perception of history and how, when push comes to shove, all we have is a bunch of disjointed tales that may or may not be true and a flag that says a lot more than a few words. Plot-wise, though, Black Sails is also a story about power in the sense that it focuses on who has the power over the island of Nassau. Is it the pirates? The British? The soon-to-be-independent Americans, through the hands of the Guthrie family? Or is it someone else entirely? On a smaller scale, Nassau begins as the property of Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New), then changed hands...

Every Treasure Island Character In Black Sails
Image
Black Sails blends fiction and history by weaving real and fictional pirates, connecting with Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Characters like Long John Silver, Captain Flint, and Billy Bones serve as key figures in both Black Sails and Treasure Island's storylines. The series showcases a diverse cast of characters, ranging from lovable rogues to feared pirate captains, with prominent roles in both stories.

Despite some characters being fictional, Black Sails includes several real pirates throughout the story. From characters like Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny to Charles Vane and Blackbeard, real historical pirates are interwoven with the fictional seafarers from Stevenson's original novel.

This allows Black Sails' cast of characters to be incredibly varied, with some taken directly from fictional stories, others based in real-world history,...

Black Sails Ending, Explained: Why Did It End Like That?
Image
Black Sails, a prequel to Treasure Island, blends history and fiction in a gripping tale of pirates and treasure quests. The series finale sees Flint and Silver unite against all odds, choosing love over war in a dramatic conclusion. Creator Jon Steinberg emphasizes the importance of the unlikely bond between Flint and Silver, driving the story's closure.

Conceived as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island novel, Black Sails ran on the Starz network for four seasons between 2014 and 2017 before concluding on an epic note. Blending historical facts with fictional characters, the story follows Captain James Flint (Toby Stephens) and his pirate crew as they attempt to find lost treasure aboard the sunken Urca de Lima cargo ship. 10 Reasons Black Sails Is Better Than Pirates Of The Caribbean
Image
Black Sails offers a more realistic and historically accurate depiction of the Golden Age of Piracy, unlike Pirates of the Caribbean. Black Sails has stronger source material from a novel, while Pirates of the Caribbean is based on a theme park ride. Black Sails has more nuanced characters compared to the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean.

While the Pirates of the Caribbean series has meandered through several unnecessary sequels, the pirate TV show Black Sails is better than Disney's franchise in many ways. Black Sails, a prequel series to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel Treasure Island, offers a gritty depiction of the Golden Age of Piracy that is far more realistic than Disney's fantastical version. Black Sails is led by a combination of original characters and characters from Treasure Island, who are all characterized by complicated ethics and motivations.

Why Black Sails Recast Dufresne After Season 1
Image
Jannes Eiselen left Black Sails because he had brain cancer. Following Eiselen's exit, Roland Reed took over as Dufresne in Black Sails season 2. Some were unhappy with the recasting as they believed that it changed Dufresne's character too much.

Black Sails features an ensemble cast, but one of the stars left the show after season 1, leading to their character being recast. The Starz historical adventure television series, created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, serves as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's popular 1883 book Treasure Island and consists of four seasons and 38 episodes. Jannes Eiselen portrayed Dufresne in the first season, but the actor passed the baton to Roland Reed for the rest of the character's time on the show.

Dufresne is introduced as the accountant of the Walrus during the pilot of Black Sails. His job is to keep track of the pirate ship's stolen goods and...

Why Black Sails Season 5 Isn't Happening & What It Would've Been About
Image
Black Sails season 4 was the last due to the co-creators' planned ending, but the series finale seemingly set up potential spinoffs. The co-creators considered a season 5 based on Treasure Island but decided to keep the show and book separate. There are no plans for a Black Sails continuation.

While Black Sails season 5 won't be setting sail anytime soon (seeing as Starz ended the show after season 4), here's what it could have been about. Black Sails is an epic historical adventure series made by Starz and follows the bloody misadventures of a crew of pirates. The show also acts as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, providing an origin story for Long John Silver. The first season of Black Sails focused on a treasure hunt, with later seasons following the battle for control of New Providence between the pirates and the British Empire.

While the show could be dark and violent,...

Black Sails depicts what happens before Treasure Island, providing backstory for characters and plot. John Silver must reunite with Billy Bones before the events of Treasure Island can occur. John Silver's timeline post-Black Sails includes marrying Madi, forming a new crew, and leading a mutiny.

The adventures of Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) are far from over when the pirate TV show Black Sails comes to an end. Captain Henry Avery, though never physically seen, played a significant role in Black Sails, with characters having mixed opinions and emotions about him. Captain Avery, also known as Henry Every, was a successful and notorious pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy, with his raids and escapes inspiring other famous pirates. ‘Scrublands’ Ending Explained & Series Recap: Why Did Byron Swift Kill Craig, Tom, Alf, Hugh, And Gerry?
Image
Luke Arnold’s latest thriller, Scrublands, sees Martin Scarsden’s investigation into the tragic church killings orchestrated by Pastor Byron Swift. Those who knew Pastor Byron Swift (Jay Ryan) said he was a generous and kind-hearted man. He treated everyone with respect and was always the first to volunteer to serve the community. He preached the teachings of Christ but never forced or pressured anyone to follow suit. Maybe that’s why no one would have suspected what was going to happen next. One day, while everyone gathered around the church for their morning prayers, Pastor Swift went berserk. He cold-bloodedly murdered Craig (Martin Copping), Tom (Scott Major), Alf (Fletcher Humphrys), Hugh (Ben De Pagter), and Gerry (Adam Morgan) with his long-range rifle. Robbie, the cop, arrived at the scene, shot Pastor Swift, and ended his killing spree.

Spoilers Ahead

Logan Lerman Points Out The Problem Of Casting Him In Percy Jackson Show
Image
Logan Lerman, the star of the Percy Jackson film franchise, doesn't see himself joining the cast of the upcoming Disney+ series based on the same book series. Lerman played the titular character in the original 2010 20th Century Fox film Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its 2013 sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters. The films were intended to mirror the five-book fantasy series written by Rick Riordan, but plans for the rest of the series were ultimately scrapped due to subpar box office returns and lukewarm critical reception for the adaptations. Since then, Disney has acquired the rights to Percy Jackson and is nearly finished completing season 1 of the new show based on Riordan's books.

Speaking to Esquire, Lerman discussed his breakout role and whether he could return to the Percy Jackson world in the new series. According to the 30-year-old actor, he has been approached by people who...

Alongside these casting announcements came some of the Greek Pantheon, beginning with Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, the director of Camp Half-Blood. Other godly announcements were Adam Copeland as Ares, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Jay Duplass as Hades, and Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus. Alongside these Percy Jackson god castings, however, was the announcement of who will be playing Medusa in Percy Jackson and the Olympians' first season, which could lead to the two...
